The honor ar y title of emeritus may be awarded by the Board of Tr us tees to retiring facult y in recognition of out s t anding ser vice to Friends Univer sit y and it s s tudent s. Facult y mus t have ser ved at leas t 10 year s in a full-time c apacit y
Rolaine Hetherington
1993, first as an adjunc t professor and then as a full-time professor since 2011. Hetherington teaches studio voice, direc t s the Concer t Choir and the Chamber Choir, teaches the Friends E xperience class for fine ar t s majors and par ticipant s, and has co - direc ted both musical theatre and opera produc tions. She has taught at the public-school level and held positions at William Penn College in Iowa, and Nor th Central Bible College and Crown College in Minnesota Rolaine has had a vibrant career of per forming and teaching. Thir t y-t wo of those years have been spent at Friends where she has taught voice, direc ted the Concer t Choir for 22 years and co - direc ted many of the musical theater and opera produc tions over the past 17 years. She has felt much loved by her wonder ful student s and had the privilege to work with some of the best colleagues ever She’s enjoyed of f-loading surplus produce from the family garden and eggs to colleagues and student s. Rolaine has been married to a sweethear t of a husband for almost 33 years, has t wo children she loves and likes and is the proud grandmother of t wo of the “most adorable granddaughters ever. ”
Hetherington was the recipient of a Rotar y International Graduate Fellowship to study music at the Graz Conser vator y in Austria She has per formed with the BBC National Bach Societ y of Minnesota, Minneapolis’ Children’s Theatre, Oregon Bach Festival, Wichita Chamber Chorale, Music Theatre of Wichita, as well as numerous regional choirs and theaters throughout the Midwest She has music published with Alliance Music Publications. Under her direc tion the Concer t Choir has had the privilege of per forming at the Kansas Music Educators Association’s winter conference t wice. Hetherington holds a B.A . in Piano Per formance and K-12 Music Education from Hendrix College, a Master of Music in Music Education, Louisiana State Universit y, a Master of Music in Vocal Per formance from Louisiana State Universit y and a Cer tificate of Completion from the Hochschule für Musick und darstellende Kunst, Graz, Austria.
