Progr am?s adaptation of Newsies will debut at 7:00pm on Fr iday March 1, followed by two per for mances on Saturday March 2 at 2:00 and 7:00. Newsies is a well- loved broadway production inspired by the real- life Newsboys Str ike of 1899. The play follows New York Newspaper Deliver y Boy Jack (Benny Flor a ?20) his comr ade Davey (Thad Bashaw ?20), as well as their fellow newsies? poor, or phaned, and homeless youth? in their protest against the unfair distr ibution pr ices of newspaper tycoon Joseph Pulitzer (Alejandro Lopez ?20). Throughout its many musical number s, tap dances, and fight scenes, the play explores protest and the power of standing together through hardship. The br illiance of the per for mance lies in the play?s cast of char acter s, its choreogr aphy, and the incredible ener gy of its musical number s. The play?s thematic strengths are multifaceted. The problem with the FCC Reading Room isn?t that it?s been known to be the senior hang out spot; the problem is that other gr ades don?t have their own. ?I think that a solid space for ever y gr ade to bond with one another as well as work together should be available,? one senior states. While the Reading Room is technically open to all gr ades, it is known school- wide to be the senior hangout spot.
