Mia, so heißt die erste Sofa-Kollektion von Freifrau. Sie besticht durch höchsten Sitzkomfort und mit ihrer Vielseitigkeit: Der Designer Ilja Huber hat 11 Module entwickelt, die sich flexibel miteinander kombinieren lassen. Das wandelbare Erscheinungsbild von Mia wird zudem durch charakteristische Rücken- und Armlehnen geprägt, die an großformatige, die Sitzenden auffangende Kissen erinnern. Dank der modularen Konzeption kann das Sofa individuellen Wünschen und Umgebungen in Größe und Form angepasst werden.

Meet Mia, Freifrau’s first sofa collection. Besides its unparalleled levels of comfort, it is Mia’s adaptability which makes it so special: Designer Ilja Huber has developed 11 modules which can be flexibly combined. Characterized by adjustable backs and armrests reminiscent of large-sized cushions, Mia’s versatile appearance and modular concept allow it to be configured, sized, and customized to suit any number of spaces and tastes.

Nach mehreren Jahren in der Autoindustrie trieb es den gelernten Werkzeugmechaniker Ilja Huber an die Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg, an der er ein Designstudium absolvierte. 2019 gründete Huber sein eigenes Studio, das heute in Berlin ansässig ist. Seine Arbeiten sind geprägt durch seine Leidenschaft für das Experimentieren mit industriellen und handwerklichen Prozessen. Sie spielte auch bei der Entwicklung der Sofa-Kollektion Mia zusammen mit dem Freifrau-Team eine große Rolle.

After several years working in the car industry, trained toolmaker Ilja Huber took a design degree at Hamburg’s University of Fine Arts (HFBK) and then set up his own studio in 2019, now based in Berlin. His work shows his passion for experimenting with industrial and handcraft processes — an approach recognisable in the sofa collection he has now produced with the Freifrau team.

Bei der Entwicklung von Mia stand im Fokus, dass eine breite Vielfalt von Bezugstoffen anwendbar sein sollte. Darum stehen nicht nur eine kuratierte Leder-Kollektion, sondern auch 14 verschiedene Stoffe zur Auswahl — von klassischen unifarbenen Textilien über Bouclé und breiten Cord bis hin zu experimentellen Mustern.

In developing the Mia collection, the main challenge was to design the sofa to enable the broad range of potential upholstery Freifrau offers: a curated leather collection as well as 14 fabric options ranging from classic single-colour textiles to bouclé, thick corduroy and experimental upholstery.

Die Mia-Sofas lassen sich zusätzlich mit frei posi tionierbaren Kissen ergänzen. Für diese stehen alle Bezugsmöglichkeiten, die auch für das Sofa angeboten werden, zur Verfügung – optional mit versteckter Naht oder passend zum Sofa mit markanter Biesennaht.

Mia can be combined with our range of additional cushions in all the same material options as for the sofa covers – either with concealed stitching or with feature piping to pick up on the sofa’s design elements.
