THE TABERNACLE The Mercy Seat · Dr. Chris Montgomery · April 20, 2025 Exodus 25:17-22

Sketch by Marc Johnson

(Exodus 25:8) And let them make me a sanctuary, that I may dwell in their midst. 1. The Mercy Seat is a Throne. (Psalm 99:1) The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! 2. The Mercy Seat reminds us that we need forgiveness. (Leviticus 16:15-16) “Then he shall kill the goat of the sin offering that is for the people and bring its blood inside the veil and do with its blood as he did with the blood of the bull, sprinkling it over the mercy seat and in front of the mercy seat. Thus he shall make atonement for the Holy Place, because of the uncleannesses of the people of Israel and because of their transgressions, all their sins. And so he shall do for the tent of meeting, which dwells with them in the midst of their uncleannesses.” 3. The Mercy Seat represents the One who has the power to give mercy. (Romans 3:25) For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.
