News & Events Turn in your Followership Card! It’s not too late to turn in your Followership cards. Turn in your card by mailing it to the church, dropping it off in the church office, or going to www.frazerumc.org. Operation Christmas Child Start with a shoe box, and share the love of Christ with a child on the other side of the world. It is an easy missions project that every member and family can participate in by bringing a gift-filled shoe box to the church by Nov. 18. BRING CHRISTMAS TO A LOCAL FOSTER CHILD Frazer will once again help bring Christmas to children in the Montgomery Foster Care System through the annual Angel Tree program, presented this year by the Frazer OneFamily initiative. You can sponsor a child by picking up an Angel Tag in the Atrium Sundays, Nov. 18 and 25. Return unwrapped gifts Saturday Dec. 8 from 10-11am or Sunday Dec. 9 from 8am-1pm. Frazer family commits to being Followers in 2013 Staff Reports The Frazer family presented their commitments to take up their crosses daily and follow Jesus through their prayers, presence, gifts and service Sunday, Oct. 28. Followership Sunday was the culmination of several weeks of preparation of hearts and minds to determine where God was leading each individual in the church to serve and give. Prayer was and is a critical component of Followership, as the congregation was encouraged to pray daily for its church, as well as their own spiritual journeys. Commitment cards continue to come in and ministries are preparing to engage and equip their volunteers with the tools they need to serve in 2013. We are expecting 2013 to be an awesome year of lifetransforming ministry and world-changing missions in and through the people of God at Frazer UMC.It’s not too late to make your commitment by turning in your card. Golfers come out for fun, fellowship in support of missions

Frazer’s “Staying On Mission” Golf Tournament is all about fun, fellowship and bringing Frazer members and friends from the community together but it also contributes to a greater cause which is supporting the world-changing missions’ projects of Frazer around the globe. These projects bring hope to some of the darkest corners of our planet. Proceeds from this year’s tournament are designated toward the “Miracle in the Desert,” a Child and Family Development Center in Trujillo, Peru, which will assist in meeting the basic

needs of impoverished families in that community. Dozens of golfers set out on Oct. 8, in hopes of having their names engraved on The Frazer Cup. This was the fourth year for Frazer’s Staying on Mission Golf Tournament, and one of the most successful to date. Among those participating were Frazer’s Congregational Care and Worship Support Coordinator Bob Wood, Frazer’s Activity Ministry Director Craig McKissick, and Keith Williams, Frazer’s IT Director. Once again, Wynlakes Golf and Country Club provided the perfect backdrop for the tournament. Continued page 5

PANCAKE BREAKFAST FOR MISSIONS DEC. 8- The annual Pancake breakfast, sponsored by the Men’s Ministry, is set for Saturday, Dec. 8, from 7-11am. Tickets are just $2 for children, $5 for adults with proceeds going to support Frazer missions. Volunteer photographers will be available to take pictures with “Santa.” Tickets are available in the Atrium on Sundays, in the Discipleship Office, or from any Men’s Ministry leader. ‘The Promise’ YOUTH WORSHIP ARTS CHRISTMAS MUSICAL DEC. 9- The birth of Jesus was not a surprise; it was the fulfillment of a promise from God spanning thousands of years from the time of Abraham. Celebrate the promises of God and the true meaning of Christmas through music with Frazer’s Youth Worship Arts choir. These talented 6th-12th grade young men and women have a passion for God and a song in their hearts. Student Ministry Interactive Bible Study- Crave Student Ministry invites all seventh and eighth grade guys and girls to an interactive Bible Study. The Bible Study meets on Sundays from 5-6 p.m., through Nov. 11. Guys are in room 8203 and girls are in room 8201.

Frazer ‘treats’ the community to fun and fellowship at third annual event Story and photos by Amy Presley News Editor

Hundreds of families around the community gathered in Frazer’s west parking lot and soccer fields for an afternoon of fun and fellowship at the Third Annual Trunk or Treat Oct. 28. More than 2,000 children and their families went “trunk to trunk” playing games and collecting candy and treats at the annual community outreach and fellowship event. Volunteers from Sunday School classes, small groups and individuals decorated their trunks in festive themes, ranging from biblical stories to children’s movies and books to traditional fall and Halloween decor. Other activities included hayrides, concessions, a photo booth, inflatables, music from a youth worship band and a performance by Frazer’s Puppet Ministry.

A team of about 40 volunteers, coordinated by Kristi Maze, helped make the Trunk or Treat a success, by setting up, cleaning up, assisting with parking and greeting, and running the hayrides and inflatables. Director of Outreach Levi Gardner, along with Butch McPherson, director of Missions and events and Kris Johnson, WIN team assistant, helped coordinate the event. The Freedom Sound releases debut EP, worship night planned for Nov. 11

Staff Reports A group of Frazer-related musicians who seek to glorify and praise God through original music have just released their first EP. The Freedom Sound, which includes Wesley Hall worship leader Jerrod Dorminey and some members of Frazer’s praise band, released “Set Free” on Oct. 9. The six-song EP is a celebration that through Jesus we have been set free from sin and fear. Band members wrote and arranged the songs over the past couple of years. “We feel that God has blessed us with an incredible opportunity to reach people for His kingdom through the gift of music,” Jerrod said. “We pray that He will use our music to break people of the chains that keep them from experiencing the ultimate freedom that comes from Christ. “For those who are already experiencing that freedom, we pray that this music reminds them of the gift that has been given for them and gives them a reason to sing.” The EP’s songs will probably sound familiar to many at Frazer because all of them have been used in Wesley Hall worship services. The album’s tracks include “Nothing but the Blood,” “Set Free” and “Glory (Alive in me).” The band traveled to Atlanta over several weekends this spring and summer to record the tracks with producers Andy Bowen and Scotty Wilbanks, who has produced songs by Francesca Battistelli and NEEDTOBREATHE and is the keys player for Third Day. Support from several Frazer members enabled the band to record with Wilbanks and Bowen. On Sunday, Nov. 11, the band is presenting a free night of worship concert in the East Sanctuary to celebrate the completion of this project and, more importantly, to worship and praise Jesus Christ. The Freedom Sound started in 2009 as an outlet to write original music and to take the worship experience outside the walls of the church by performing at other venues. The other members of the band are vocalist Melinda Smith, guitarists Jon Powers and Hudson Thompson, bassist Kevin Wolfe and drummer Mike Presley. With joyful hearts, Zoo Day volunteers make a difference, show Christ’s love Staff Reports Frazer’s Singles Ministry sponsored its annual Zoo Day event Saturday, Oct. 6. The weather was perfect for a morning at the zoo, where volunteers from Frazer and Auburn-Montgomery nursing students escorted adults and children with special needs throughout the zoo to view the animals, ride the train and enjoy the beautiful day. Singles Ministry coordinator Virginia Holmes said that 170 special friends registered to participate in the event, coming from ARC of Elmore County, Father Purcell’s, Burgess Center, Frazer, TRC, McInnis School, Milton Rd Residence, Volunteers of America and others. The volunteers, which included Frazer members and students from Auburn-Montgomery, helped unload the guests from buses and vans. Each guest received a colorful gift bag that included a Zoo Day t-shirt and a cross necklace. They also enjoyed a sack lunch and had their photos taken. Volunteers Crystal Vaughn and Leslie Michaud dressed as clowns to entertain the special guests. “My motto is ‘work is love made visible’ and the love from our volunteers was very evident as they worked very hard and with a joyful heart,” Virginia said. “The Zoo employees are wonderful to work with. 2013 frazer Budget: Resourcing our Vision

The Finance Committee, Staff-Parish Relations Committee and Board of Trustees, in consultation with staff and lay leaders, proposed a 2013 budget of just under $8.5 million, a decrease of $573,000 from 2012. The budget was approved unanimously by the Board of Stewards on September 30. This budget continues to support our priorities of word-centered ministries and world-changing missions, along with early debt retirement, while bringing the budget more in line with actual giving and spending over the past two years. Notes 1. Apportionments are how United Methodist Churches cooperate to fund missions and ministry together. Frazer’s apportionments were reduced this year due a lower budget request from our district.

Dear ERNEST, Absolutely, you should view it as “our” debt. It came with the territory when you two walked down the aisle. A lot of people don’t use the old-fashioned marriage vows anymore, but The Book of Common Prayer reads, “… for richer, for poorer, in sickness and health, and unto thee I pledge my worldly goods.” Basically, that means you’re saying, “I’m ready to take a bullet for you. I’m going to do whatever it takes to serve you, and vice versa.”

You’re joining your separate lives into one. In addition to all this, you guys need to be in agreement on how you’re going to handle money. In other words, it all gets worked out together with both of you sitting down and planning your financial future as one. This is called a budget. Like everything else, you work on it together. It’s not a situation where one of you is making all the decisions or bailing out the other. But if you guys are on the same page—if your relationship is healthy and you’re in agreement about moving forward with shared dreams and goals—then I’d say write the check today and knock out that debt! —Dave
