The Glory of God Leaves the Temple Dr. Jimmy Jeffcoat | Ezekiel 10:1-22 | March 18, 2026 Context: The Profane and Holy (Leviticus 18:3) “You shall not do as they do in the land of Egypt, where you lived, and you shall not do as they do in the land of Canaan, to which I am bringing you. You shall not walk in their statutes.” The nations were driven out because of their abominations and evil ways. I. The throne and glory of God are still in the Temple and seen above the heads of the cherubim. (Ezekiel 10:1) II. The Fire of Judgment The Coals of Judgment are sent forth. (Ezekiel 10:2) “And he said to the man clothed in linen, ‘Go in among the whirling wheels underneath the cherubim. Fill your hands with burning coals from between the cherubim and scatter them over the city.’” The Lord tried hard to prevent the Judgment. (2 Chronicles 36:15-16) “The Lord, the God of their fathers, sent persistently to them by his messengers, because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. But they kept mocking the messengers of God, despising his words and scoffing at his prophets, until the wrath of the Lord rose against his people, until there was no remedy.” III. The Movement of the Glory of God (10:3,4,19) The Cherubim from the River Chebar are seen once again. They are the same ones described in chapter 1. (10:20) The Reluctance to Leave? Notice the Movement. IV. Application These things are written for our knowledge and instruction. They are corporate: Jeremiah 17:10; Psalm 33:8,12 (Psalm 33:12) “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people whom he has chosen as his heritage!” They are personal: Romans 15:4; 1 Corinthians 10:11-12 ( 1 Corinthians 10:11-12) “Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.”
