Ezekiel 13:1-23 Dr. Chris Montgomery April 15, 2026

What we learn from the False Prophets of Israel: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

Our words are to be based on God’s Word. (V2) Our thoughts need to be shaped by what God shows us. (V3) Our words need to be used to lift and pray for others not prey on them. (V4) Our work needs to spiritually strengthen the community we are a part of. (V5) Our words do not need to invoke God’s name unless God speaks. (V6a) Our expectations need to align with God’s Word. (V6b)

What We Learn from God’s Judgments on the False Prophets: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.

God stands against them instead of with them. (V8) God raises his fist against them instead of opening and offering a helping hand. (V9) God banishes them from the community instead of receiving them in community. (V9) God leaves them nameless instead of named and known. (V9) God separates them from the land instead of giving them their inheritance. (V9)

The Sign of the False Prophets: False prophets create a facade of stability. (V10-16) (Matthew 7:24-27) 24 Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash. What we learn from the False Female Prophets of Israel: 1. 2. 3. 4.

Our words should never take advantage of people. (V18) Our words should be truthful. (V19) God sets His people free. (V20-21) God’s words are always truthful, no matter how hard the truth hurts. (V22)
