Connecting People Through Memorable Experiences

Dear Friends and Community Members,

Welcome to the Summer program lineup with the Fraser Valley Metropolitan Recreation District (FVMRD)! This guide is filled with opportunities to get active, try something new, and enjoy all that our community has to offer.

At FVMRD, we take pride in serving our members, our community, and the many visitors who join us each year. Summer is an especially exciting time as our facilities and programs come alive with energy, kids exploring new interests at camp, families enjoying the pool, neighbors gathering for events, and friends connecting through recreation.

One of the things that makes our district unique is the variety of programs you won’t find just anywhere. From cooking camps and teen/tween outings to licensed full-day care options, we work hard to offer experiences that meet the diverse needs of our community. Did you know that FVMRD is more than just the Recreation Center? In addition to the Grand Park Community Recreation Center, we also operate The Foundry Cinema & Bowl, the Fraser Valley Sports Complex, Pole Creek Golf Club, and satellite facilities like the Fraser Historic Church. These locations are wonderful destinations to visit throughout the summer and offer even more ways to stay active, have fun, and connect with family and friends.

None of this would be possible without our dedicated staff, instructors, and partners who are committed to providing safe, welcoming, and high-quality experiences. Their creativity and passion help make every program, event, and visit something special. As you explore this guide, I encourage you to try a new activity, sign up for a program you ’ ve been curious about, or visit one of our facilities you haven’t experienced yet. Recreation has a powerful way of bringing people together and strengthening our community.

Thank you for being part of FVMRD and for choosing to spend your summer with us. We look forward to seeing you soon.

CLIMBING CAMP

Climbing Camp is a two-day adventure designed to build skills, confidence, and a love for climbing. Hosted by Colorado Mountain Expeditions, this camp blends fun instruction, teamwork, and both indoor and outdoor climbing experiences.

Day 1: Skills, Games & Real Rock

We start on the climbing wall at the rec center, where campers learn movement basics, footwork, and communication through fun activities and lighthearted competition. Then, we head to a climbing area near Tabernash to try real rock climbing. With instructors coaching every step of the way, kids will apply what they learned indoors to natural stone.

Day 2: Big Walls in Denver

On day two, we travel to the Denver area to climb at a large indoor rock gym. This gives campers the opportunity to get on taller routes (up to 50 feet high) building endurance, technique, and confidence as they push themselves on bigger walls than they typically see at home.

Participants will spend significant time on the wall, practicing skills and building confidence through guided instruction and plenty of hands-on repetition Off the wall, campers will also learn essential outdoor and climbing skills such as knot tying, safety techniques, and basic problem-solving so they build a well-rounded understanding of climbing and outdoor movement Campers should pack a lunch
