E DITOR'S NOTE I grew up in Lyon, France and lived in the UK before moving to Australia. My favourite moment when moving into a new place is exploring my neighbourhood and introducing myself to neighbours. It always takes them by surprise at first but has also created so many long-lasting relationships. I have received such a warm welcome from the Hamilton Reach community since joining in late 2019. I look forward to getting to know even more residents and discovering some “community champions”. Try before you buy. Whether it’s snacking on a free sample at the supermarket, hiring a major appliance before committing the cash or testdriving a new car, these four little words instantly ensure peace of mind. While trying before buying is a common consumer tool across the retail sector, Frasers Property Australia has noticed a growing trend towards homeowners road-testing their dream home by renting first.
At Hamilton Reach, more than 20 percent of December quarter sales across the Riverlight apartment project were made to new homeowners who rented within the $700M master-planned waterfront community. Arlene Bennett is one such new Riverlight resident. The Brisbane Airport worker returned to Brisbane after a stint in Sydney and rented an apartment in Hamilton Reach’s Atria for two years before buying her two-bedroom, two-bathroom garden apartment in Riverlight.

Arlene spent months scouring the surrounding suburbs for her ideal property before realising her dream apartment was closer to home than she realised.
“It creates a shared understanding and sense of community and adds to the overall tranquillity of the area.
“I spent about six months looking around Hamilton and Ascot – particularly Racecourse Road – because, to be honest, I thought Riverlight was out of my league,” Arlene said. “So I was thrilled when the sales team walked me through my options and I realised I was able to buy a brand-new apartment, larger than what I was renting, and was able to stay within the Hamilton Reach precinct I’d grown so fond of. “One of the big appeals for me with Hamilton Reach has been the abundance of people in their 40s or older who either don’t have kids or have older, more mature children and are very like-minded and respectful of each other.
“I moved into my apartment in December and I couldn’t be happier!” Equally thrilled with their new home are Arlene’s neighbours Gabriel and Thaisa Villarreal who rented a Riverlight apartment for 12 months before deciding to purchase in the same building. “Hamilton Reach is handy to our work and we’ve enjoyed the lifestyle here,” Gabriel said. “We’re very active and like to kayak on the river, use the pool for swimming laps and we ride our bikes around Northshore and into the city.

“We’ve also made lots of friends in the area, mainly through the events organised regularly for the community.” Frasers Property Australia’s General Manager Residential Queensland Scott Ullman said the lifestyle appeal of Hamilton Reach and the undeniable value of Riverlight apartments made it a popular choice among both renters and first home buyers. “Of the 14 sales made at Riverlight in the December quarter, three were to people who had previously rented either in Riverlight or within Hamilton Reach,” Mr Ullman said. “Our new Riverlight buyers feel at home within the community and want to secure the lifestyle they’ve enjoyed and we find they value the quality, pricing and ease of the sales process we offer.” Mr Ullman said Riverlight East was in highest demand with December quarter sales revealing the apartment project as the highest seller within Brisbane's inner-north and the second-highest seller across inner-Brisbane. Six Riverlight East homes were sold in January alone, leaving only a handful of its 155 apartments still on the market.

EX P E RT T I P S F O R MAKING EXQ U ISIT E TREATS. Award-winning chocolatier CoCouture conducted an exclusive chocolate-making masterclass with Hamilton Reach residents recently and generously agreed to share a few secret recipes.
Blood orange truffles (makes approximately 60) Ingredients 200g thickened cream, 35% fat content
Monica from CoCouture said it was possible to make simple chocolate treats at home as a gourmet gift for Mother’s Day, birthdays or ‘just because’.
550g dark couverture chocolate (not compound or melts as the texture becomes grainy) Zest of 2 blood oranges (regular oranges are fine)

½ tsp of orange essence Method 1. Combine orange zest with cream and infuse overnight in the fridge. 2. Place infused cream in a saucepan, add orange essence and bring to the boil. 3. Place dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl and pour over heated cream. 4. Starting in the middle of the bowl, stir the chocolate until a shiny dark patch appears, then bring in the chocolate from the edges. Keep stirring, until combined and there are no lumps. 5. Cover with plastic wrap touching the surface of the ganache and let it set overnight.
Edible Basket Take a balloon, inflate it to the size of an orange and secure it with a knot.
6. Take a teaspoon full of ganache and roll it into a ball then drop into dark cocoa powder or sprinkles and roll to cover. Repeat with remaining mixture.
Melt chocolate in a bowl larger than the inflated balloon then, holding the balloon by its knot, dip it into the chocolate.
TIP: Substitute orange for any flavour, just let it steep in the cream to infuse the flavour then sieve and discard any pulp.
Place on a sheet of non-stick baking paper to dry.
Mendiants
Allow the chocolate to completely set – you can refrigerate for 10 minutes to speed up the process – then re-dip the balloon if needed.
Fill a plastic zip-lock bag with melted chocolate and snip a tiny corner to make a homemade piping bag.
Once set, carefully puncture the balloon and discard once deflated.
Squeeze a small disc, about the size of a 50-cent coin, on to a sheet of baking paper and top with your choice of sprinkles, nuts or dried fruit.
Fill your edible bowl with truffles and mendicants.
Allow to set.

What prompted you to move to Hamilton Reach?
How important is a sense of community to you?
Years ago I would drive over the Gateway Bridge and see a beautiful blooming jacaranda tree in the middle of the golf course and think, “imagine living there with that view?” Fast forward over 25 years later and when my daughters moved out, I knew it was time to downsize and be closer to city living so I put a deposit down to purchase my Atria North Apartment off the plan.
The sense of community I feel in the area is refreshing. I love the fact that people say good morning to each other. We have so many fur-babies in our building and they are always a great conversation starter.
What do you love most about living at Hamilton Reach? The existing development and the future plans for the area are very exciting to me. I love the peace and quiet, overlooking the golf course from my balcony, safe walking trails around the development, the convenience of having the major arterial roads so close as well as the public transport options. How do you like to spend your free time? I love going to the movies and the Dendy Cinemas are so close. Eat Street Markets on the weekend are a short stroll along the water’s edge and a must. Live Life Get Active exercise classes each weekday morning are a great way to start the day.
What is your favourite spot to relax and why? My very private east-facing balcony. There is a little arm of the Brisbane River running parallel to the building and at night you can hear the fish jumping in and out of the water. What is your favourite local hidden gem? My not-so-hidden gem would be Eat Street on a Sunday afternoon. I usually skip lunch and walk down about 1pm, have a glass of bubbles and some oysters and listen to some live music while overlooking the Brisbane River. If you could describe Hamilton Reach in just three words, what would they be? Home Sweet Home

Cheese and wine are among the most decadent and delicious flavour combinations.
For soft, delicate and creamy cheeses, such as the Le Cremeux de Bourgogne, sip on bubbles.
Sense of Taste Portside store manager and sommelier Peter Tamblyn shares his insightful tips on how to perfectly match the two.
“Something French will never disappoint but you could even choose a light-bodied red like a Beaujolais or a Pinot Noir,” he said.
For cheeses with sharp, rich flavours, such as the Gouda Millennium 1000 Days, Peter recommends either beer or wine.
Peter has sourced the best drops across all wine styles – and budgets – to accompany your cheese board.
“This cheese is crumbly, super tasty and has you coming back for more. It goes great with beer, but you could easily pair it with a textured Chablis or even a Pinot Gris,” he said.

CREATE A GOURMET GRAZING BOARD 1. Use a flat serving board to build your platter. 2. S elect a minimum of two varieties and textures of cheese.
• Soft cheeses: burrata, camembert, brie, taleggio, goat, gorgonzola and blue
• Hard cheeses: cheddar, pecorino, gruyere, gouda, provolone, Swiss
3. D ecorate the board with seasonal fruits for a vibrant punch of flavour. Consider small bunches of grapes, thinly sliced apples or pears, wedges of peach, whole cherries, quartered figs and handfuls of berries.

Prosper Maufoux Chablis – $40 Textured and creamy with just enough body, this wine has elegance for days. ROSÉ Wicks – $17 This Pinot Noir-based Rosé is full of natural fruity sweetness, combined with a perfectly dry finish and tingling acid line. Bird in Hand Pinot Nero Rosé – $35 Italian-inspired, this Rosé is perfectly balanced, lifted and crunchy. Super elegant.
