DEVELOPMENT UPDATE
Meet the Developer We recently held a “Meet the Developer” morning where our residents were invited to hear project updates and ask questions about our masterplanned community.
The vision for Brookhaven is to be a place where families thrive. This vision guides the team in delivering the Brookhaven community and has led the decision making in promoting healthy lifestyle opportunities, multiple parklands, a community café, multiuse trails, and many other places for residents to enjoy and connect. To provide some context around our development: • Brookhaven is a 10-year project which is forecast to be completed in late 2026. • When it is completed there will be approximately 1,980 new homes and close to 5,000 people living here.
There are some great benefits to a development of this scale and duration: • We can masterplan and include design aspects like multiple parks and multi-use trails. • We can implement community initiatives such as free fitness classes, Brookhaven Street Eats and the Bee Series. • We can respond to market conditions and opportunities as they change over time. • We can continue to learn and improve on how we work and communicate with existing, new and future residents at Brookhaven.
One of the most frequent questions we get asked is about our future retail and townhouse village. Planning for this 50,000sqm area will commence in late 2022 once the major roadworks have advanced, with construction looking to start in 2025 (subject to tenant pre-commitment). While the retail mix is all subject to tenant interest and negotiation, what we are targeting aims to provide a localised level of service to the community with the likes of a supermarket, fresh food, chemist, café, bottle shop, takeaway food, hair/beauty, medical, gym and petrol station.
The next big question is about a dog park. Brookhaven is a very dog friendly community with dogs welcome at all of our parks, café, events and multi-use trails. As part of our future precinct located south of the future retail centre and townhouse village (the east of Hilary Street) we are proposing a 1,750sqm dog park which will be split into large and small dog off leash areas. Logan City Council are supportive of this proposal, so subject to Development Approval of our application and resolving any engineering design issues associated with the proposed location, we are excited to be able to see this in our residents near future.
We are also pleased to be able to report that the major roadwork upgrades around our estate are progressing well and remain on schedule. Frasers Property Australia and Logan City Council, are working together to upgrade the local road network in Bahrs Scrub, with important upgrades that serve to improve road safety for all road users and improve efficiency and connectivity to the broader road networks servicing the region. In 2022, Brookhaven’s catchment primary school, Edens Landing State School is celebrating its 25th anniversary. We had the pleasure of meeting with the school principal, Clinton Curran, who joined the school two and half years ago.

Tell us a bit about Edens Landing’s mission and priorities?
What were the 2021 highlights for you and the students?
At Edens Landing, our mission is ‘to engage, inspire and empower EVERY student to a life of choice, not chances’. To achieve this, our priorities are to build a strong foundation on positive relationships and high expectations which are promoted throughout the school. Our motto is: ‘Soar to Success’, our expectations are ‘I am safe, I am respectful, I am a learner’.
Students will agree that the highlight this year was the completion of the senior inclusive playground, a $300,000 investment from the community partners and the school to deliver a fully engaging playground. The students love it, and it has helped evolve our school nicely.
All across our learning areas including English, Maths and Science we have signature high impact teaching strategies. In 2021, we prioritised the importance of building a positive culture for learning with a focus on English, reading, and writing for our students. The school set themselves a bold target of 75% of our students achieving an A-C in English – this has never been achieved and we are tracking well to achieve it, which is very exciting.
What achievement are you most proud? This year has seen one of our Year 5 and foundation teachers, Mrs Lizanne Hitchmough, who started at our school 24 years ago, being awarded the QCT TEACHX Excellence in Teaching Award, which is a huge achievement. I’m also very proud to be on track to have more students passing English
What extra-curriculum activities do you offer? Included in our Australian Curriculum is Japanese, Music, Art, Technology, Health and Physical Education. We also offer a long list of extra-curricular activities to engage and inspire our students, including a sport academy, coding and robotics, choir, band and an art and craft club.
We heard you have a thriving Community Garden, how is it integrated in the school life? The ‘Garden of Edens’ has a very special place in our school and is in the heart of our community. We have a chef and a gardener on-site, sponsored by the school, as the kitchen garden is integrated in fun learning activities. These range from Prep classes making a fruit salad to our Year 6 students cooking a chicken and veggie stir fry, and every student utilises the garden at least once a term for a curriculum related topic. The P&C and student
council does a marvellous job at rallying volunteers and raising funds to support it at their annual flagship events – The Bush Dance and The Christmas Carols.
When is the best time for parents to enquire about your Prep Enrolment Program? For 2022? Yesterday! We are well into our enrolment process, so if parents haven’t yet reached out, I urge them to do so. Early next year, we will also start the 2023 enrolment process. Our school has a comprehensive Prep enrolment program to ensure students are successful learners from day 1 and we encourage parents to enrol their child at least six months ahead. We also work closely with early childhood centres, and we are part of Logan Together Early Years Neighbourhood Networks that ensures students and families are exposed to primary school expectations and the way of working. Look out on our Facebook page for playgroup to start early in the new year.
Is there a school bus service out of Brookhaven? Yes, absolutely! In my first year at the school, I worked very hard with Logan City Council and Logan Coaches to introduce the service and it has been operational now for just under 12 months. It is very well utilised with over 40 students being dropped daily in front of the school. Logan Coaches also continues to increase the route as the catchment area grows. This is a great partnership with Logan City Council, Logan Coaches and Edens Landing State School.

Landscape Competition Award Winners The Brookhaven community is integrated into the surrounding rich green hinterland. Its houseproud residents extend this connection to nature, with their manicured gardens and thoughtful landscaping. Councillor Tony Hall, representing the people of Division 6 Logan City, had his work cut out for him selecting the winners in our inaugural ‘Brookhaven Landscaping Competition’ as there were so many outstanding entries. Congratulations to Sue Toomey, Ryan Cummings, Jenelle Theodore, Ben Haack and Martin Troyahn for taking out the Best Landscaped Home Awards, and to the residents of Lapwing Drive for winning the Best Streetscape Award.
Brookhaven Halloween Trail Our Brookhaven Residents sure know how to celebrate Halloween! Trick-or-treaters flocked to the streets in their ghoulish costumes and had a ball collecting candy from all the spook-tacular houses around the estate. Inaugurated by Brookhaven’s first residents in 2018, this 100% resident-led initiative is growing every year. To help families find their way through the estate, Frasers Property released a trail map showcasing the location of participating homes.

Earlier this year, a group of residents approached Frasers Property with a proposal to install garden beds near the Brookhaven Bean Café, with the vision to organise regular gatherings and socialise while caring for the crops and sharing gardening tips and techniques. Three large garden beds are now filled with premium organic soil and ready for our volunteers to see their crops start to grow. They are looking forward to providing workshop opportunities for residents and setting up a small calendar of activities in the new year.
