Man killed after crashing through fence Brodie Cowburn brodie@baysidenews.com.au A MAN was killed in a car crash in Frankston last week, 10 January. The 34-year-old man was driving on Franciscan Avenue at around 4.30pm when he lost control of the vehicle. Police say he crashed into

a streetlight, tree, and fence before coming to a stop. Emergency services attended but the man was sadly declared dead at the scene of the crash. The victim of the crash was the sole occupant of the car. Police will now investigate the cause of the crash. They will prepare a report for the coroner, and

have asked any witnesses to come forward to help. Police, the SES, and fire crews attended the scene. The fatality is the first recorded on roads in the Frankston municipality this year. It is the first death to be recorded on a road in the Frankston LGA since 2021 (“No fatalities recorded on Frankston roads”, The

Times, 9/1/23). As of 10 January, the road toll for the year is 12. The final 2022 road toll was 240, an increase of six from the previous year. Acting head of Road Safety Victoria, Marcelo Vidales, said “too many people lost their lives” in 2022. “Our thoughts are with the families and communities missing a

loved one – there is more to be done and we will not stop working until all Victorians are safe on or around our roads,” Vidales said. Any witnesses can assist the investigation by contacting Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000 or submitting a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
