Youth crime remains a concern Brodie Cowburn brodie@baysidenews.com.au TWO teenagers have been charged after allegedly using a knife to rob another teenager at a Frankston bus stop. Police allege that a teenager was sitting at a bus stop on Young Street just before 10am on 28 June when he was approached by two boys. The duo allegedly showed the victim a knife and stole his puffer jacket before leaving in a stolen Toyota.

Police say that shortly afterwards the same alleged offenders approached two teenagers at a bus stop on High Street in Cranbourne, and stole more clothing. Police also allege that a third person was in the back seat of the Toyota at the time. Police allege that the two people who got out of the car in Cranbourne were wearing ski masks, with one brandishing a knife. Police spotted and began following the Toyota in Cranbourne at about 11am. They eventually pulled the car over in Dandenong and arrested three

teenage boys. A 13-year-old boy was interviewed by detectives and released pending further investigation. A 16-year-old boy was charged with three counts of armed robbery and theft of a motor vehicle. A 17-year-old boy has been charged with three counts of armed robbery, theft of a motor vehicle and dangerous driving. The two teenagers charged were remanded to appear before a children’s court at a later date. Recently released figures from the Crime Statistics Agency show that there

were 17,079 criminal offences recorded in the Frankston LGA in the year ending March 2026, a decrease of 3.7 per cent from the year prior but still up a whopping 46 per cent since 2022. After the release of the latest crime figures, Victoria Police Deputy Commissioner Regional Operations Bob Hill sad “while pleasing to see overall crime slightly decrease, the reality is that overall crime in Victoria still remains far higher than both police and the community would like.” “This is why we are absolutely com-

mitted to ensuring our highly trained officers are where they are needed most – in the community, patrolling the streets, deterring criminal behaviour and preventing crime. This approach is pivotal to achieving Victoria Police’s goal of reducing serious and violent crime by 5 percent each year,” Hill said. “The early indications are we’re making some positive steps to achieve this with armed robberies, carjackings, and aggravated home burglaries all reducing.
