AHEAD of the November election, bayside councils have teamed up to demand that the state governemnt spend more money to fix potholes on Nepean Highway. Kingston and Bayside Councils have joined forces to call for urgent intervention on potholes and deteriorating road surfaces across the two municipalities. Nepean Highway has been highlighted as an area of particular concern. Kingston mayor Georgina Oxley said that residents “should not have to put up with deteriorating state roads.” “Our residents shouldn’t have to dodge potholes on the way to work, school or home,” Cr Oxley said. “Councils invest heavily in maintaining the roads we’re responsible for, and we expect the state government to do the same with its roads. “This is about making sure fixing these roads is a priority. Our community deserves safe, reliable roads – not more excuses.” Bayside Council mayor Debbie
Taylor-Haynes is also advocating for funding - she said “these are major roads used by thousands of people every day, yet too many are being left to deteriorate. “Potholes and poor road surfaces aren’t just frustrating; they can damage vehicles and create genuine safety risks. The state government needs to step up, fix these roads properly and keep them maintained,” Cr TaylorHaynes said. The push for road funding forms part of Kingston Council’s “Put Kingston First” campaign, targeting state funds in the lead-up to the November election. Kingston Council is also asking the winning party to fund upgrades to early childhood centres in Dingley Village and Edithvale; the Kingston Arts Precinct in Moorabbin and the Mordialloc Community Centre; the Edithvale–Seaford Wetlands boardwalk; shopping precincts including Chelsea, Highett, Parkdale, and Dingley Village; and sporting facilities across the municipality to support growing numbers of female players.
