FROM THE DIRECTOR “The sun’ll come out tomorrow.” If ever there was a year that taught me the value of believing in a brighter future, this was it. Cliché as it may sound, hope and faith for a better “tomorrow” are what get us through the darkest of times. The message of this iconic song resonated with audiences in 1977, and still does today. This show takes place in 1933 during the Great Depression. Here we are in 2021 with many parallels and similar challenges. Annie is a timely reminder that genuine optimism is contagious. Even grouchy, jaded Oliver Warbucks can’t help but soften after just a few minutes of Annie’s bubbly, youthful positivity. Now, I don’t consider myself Warbucks-level grouchy, but I must say that these middle school students have truly been one of the brightest spots in the past year for me. They cheerfully filmed their audition videos from home, committed to learning music and choreography over—you guessed it—Zoom, did an excellent job pre-recording their vocals in goofy-looking singer’s masks, and never once complained about the out-of-the-box way in which we had to rehearse and film this production. This FRA cast will go down in history as the first to pull off a musical in a pandemic, and I think that’s pretty special! Students, I know that one of the best parts of being in a musical is getting to bond as one big cast, and I know that was not possible to do this year. However, in every rehearsal, whether virtual or in person, you showed grace, gratitude, enthusiasm, and extraordinary work ethic. Thank you for being patient with me when I sometimes stood onstage stumped as to how we could stage a scene with everyone at least six feet apart. Thank you for everything. I hope you are as proud of yourselves as I am of you.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR |
Mia Wisinski is a professional actress and singer-songwriter and has been performing since she was a little girl. She grew up singing in the family band and earned a BFA in Musical Theatre from California State University, Fullerton. Since, she’s traveled the world performing on cruise ships and tours and has performed locally for Studio Tenn, Nashville Repertory Theatre, and at the Grand Ole Opry (Mama Who in Grinch). Lizzie Atnip HEAD STAFF
Lizzie is a 7th grader performing in her third middle school musical. When asked what she likes about musical theatre, Lizzie answered, “It’s a part of who I am. I love to sing and dance.” This year, she was especially grateful that “we actually got to do the play!” Lizzie looks forward to being able to get to see more of her friends again in person. “I would like to thank our amazing director Mrs. Mia for making this happen,” she said. “She has been working so hard with everything that has been going on this year, and I also thank her for making this play fun even though it’s been a rough year.”
Joslin Austermiller HEAD STAFF
Joslin is in the 8th grade, and she has been in four other musicals outside of FRA. Her favorite part about her maid character, whom she named “Sholanda,” is getting to “gossip about the gardener” with her sister, Julia, while they dust! Joslin would like to thank her mom for reminding her to join the Zoom rehearsals when she forgot.

Julia is a 6th grader and, although this is her second time performing in the FRA middle school musical, she is no stranger to the stage. She has been in six other musicals before this one! Julia’s favorite part about the show this year is the dance she is in. She would like to thank her mom for letting her participate in the musical.
Ella Grace Beasley ANNETTE
Ella Grace is in the 8th grade, and this is her first middle school musical. Her favorite thing about musical theatre is learning fun songs and dances. She looks forward to the day when everyone can practice together again. “I’d like to thank Mrs. Mia for making this year’s musical possible, along with her ability to make every single practice enjoyable,” she said.
Liam Bradford ROOSTER
Liam is an 8th grader, and he has been in the middle school musical all four years. He enjoys this role because it’s his first time getting to play a villain, and it’s fun to try something new. Liam would like to thank his family for supporting him, as well as the directors and his castmates for putting on such an amazing show and making it a great last year of being in the middle school musical!
Avery Grace Cahill ORPHAN
Avery Grace is a 6th grader, and this is her second middle school musical. She loves musical theatre because of “the people and the positivity.” Avery Grace is glad we got to do the musical this year, while being safe and having fun. She also enjoys her role because it’s interesting to imagine the point of view as an orphan. Avery Grace looks forward to future productions with an audience that she can appreciate from stage. “I would like to thank Mrs. Mia and the rest of the crew for making this musical safe and fun, and my parents for the opportunity to be part of the FRAmily,” she said.
Gracyn Carlton HEAD STAFF
Gracyn, a 7th grader, is appearing in her third middle school musical. She’s especially loved getting to be in a show with her sister, Reilyn. One of the silver linings of the musical this year for Gracyn was getting to rehearse in smaller groups. However, she can’t wait until she can hug everyone again and give high fives after a great performance. Gracyn thanks her family and friends for supporting her. She also would like to offer a special thank you to Reilyn. “She is an amazing person and awesome actress, and I can’t wait to see her grow and develop,” she said. “I want to thank Mrs. Mia for putting together a show during COVID-19 and this huge mess.”
Reilyn Carlton SANDY AND HEAD STAFF
Reilyn is in the 5th grade, and this is her first middle school musical. She particularly enjoyed getting to “bark-sing,” and also had a lot of fun pre-recording the vocals even though she wasn’t sure how she would feel about it beforehand. Reilyn looks forward to future productions where she will be able to perform in front of a live audience. She thanks her sister, Gracyn, for being super excited to have her in the cast.
Kara Cooper NEW YORKER
Kara is a 5th grader, and this is her first middle school musical. When asked what she likes most about musical theatre, she said, “everything so far!” Kara can’t wait to perform for a live audience in future productions. “Thank you, Mrs. Mia, for choosing a role for me that I love,” she said. “You are also great at picking costumes!”
Mia Dalton KATE
Mia, a 5th grader, is making her middle school musical debut. This year, she has enjoyed getting to act, sing, and see her castmates, “even when it was on Zoom.” Mia enjoys spending time with the whole orphan group. She thanks her parents for always encouraging her to do what she loves (“and acting is it!”). She would also like to thank “Mrs. Mia for being awesome.”
Ava Dinkel CECILLE
Ava is in the 6th grade, and this is her second middle school musical. When theatre finally “gets back to normal,” Ava is most looking forward to hanging out with her friends backstage. Ava would like to thank Mrs. Mia for being “so positive and kind.” She also thanks her parents for encouraging her.
Shelby Franklin STAR-TO-BE #1
Shelby is an 8th grader, and this is her second middle school musical. Her favorite part of the show this year was getting to see friends she might not have gotten to see during the normal school day. She also enjoyed the interesting costumes as well as getting to submit video auditions. She looks forward to being able to see more of her friends and getting to do more activities. Shelby thanks her mom because, “She convinced me to do the play again this year.”
Ava Gleaves JULY
Ava is in the 7th grade, and this is her second middle school musical since coming to FRA. Her favorite aspect of the musical this year was getting to develop the backstory for her character and use her acting skills to show how that made-up past influences her role. “I would like to thank Mrs. Mia,” she said. “She has been an amazing teacher this year even though we had to change things up. Mrs. Mia has been flexible with the changes the year brought us.”
George Halas OFFICER WARD
George is in the 8th grade, and, though this is his first time performing in the middle school musical, he has previously worked on tech crew. George’s favorite thing about musical theatre is how “you can express yourself freely without worry of judgment.” This year, he’s enjoyed the small rehearsal groups and getting to make new friends. He is most looking forward to getting to travel with his family again. “I would like to thank Liam Bradford because, without him, I never would’ve gone out for the play, and I am so happy he convinced me to,” he said.
Duff Hankins OLIVER WARBUCKS
Duff is an 8th grader and has been in the musical all four years of middle school. He has enjoyed meeting new people through this experience and is “thankful we got a musical this year because of all the COVID-19 restrictions.” Duff liked having more one-on-one time with the director this year and also enjoys the transformation his character goes through. “I would like to thank my parents for convincing me to do these musicals in the first place and Mrs. Mia for finding a way for us to film this production,” he said.
Maddi Harris ORPHAN
Maddi is a 5th grader making her middle school musical debut. When asked what she loves most about musical theatre, she said “everything!” She has enjoyed getting to act like an orphan, practicing with her small group, and even rehearsing through Zoom. Though she liked working in the small groups this year, she looks forward to the day when everyone can be together again. Maddi thanks everyone for putting in time and hard work to make this happen.
Quinn Jenkins APPLE SELLER
Quinn, a 5th grader, is performing in his first middle school musical. He loves improvisation and getting to be a part of this production that feels “like a movie.” Quinn particularly enjoyed coming up with an elaborate backstory for his character and making the most of his lines! He looks forward to getting to work with more actors in future productions. “I would like to thank my friends and my fellow actors,” he said, “I also want to give a big shout out to Mrs. Mia and Mrs. Pitts.”
Maeve Jones ORPHAN
Maeve is a 5th grader making her middle school musical debut. Her favorite aspect of musical theatre is dancing. She particularly enjoys her role because she gets “a lot of control over my character, like her background, name, and age.” She looks forward to being able to have all in-person rehearsals for future productions. “I would like to thank Mrs. Mia and Mrs. Pitts for allowing us to do this in such a crazy time,” she said. “I would also like to thank my family for supporting me in doing this musical.”
Walker Jones ROOSEVELT AND NEW YORKER
Walker is in the 8th grade, and this is his third middle school musical. His favorite thing about musical theatre is the community and “getting to be loud and outgoing.” This year, he has particularly enjoyed getting to see friends he hasn’t gotten to see during the school day, as well as the smaller groups for rehearsals. Walker also loves getting to maneuver the vintage wheelchair when he plays Roosevelt. “I would like to thank friends such as Duff Hankins and Pete Mondzelewski for encouraging me to do this musical,” he said. “I would also want to thank my mom for helping me with practicing voices for Roosevelt.”
Elsie Jungmichel MRS. GREER
Elsie is a 7th grader, and this is her third middle school musical. She enjoys getting to have a speaking line and getting to be part of a fun song. Elsie looks forward to being able to see all of her friends face to face again. “Thank Mrs. Mia, Mrs. Pitts, and Mrs. Dunn for making this easier during these weird times,” she said. “I would also like to thank my parents and my friends for supporting me through this.”
Ann Wilson Kellum USHERETTE
Ann Wilson is in the 5th grade, and this is her middle school musical debut. She loves her role in the show. Ann Wilson looks forward to future productions because she will be able to rehearse with more people. “Thank you, Mrs. Mia, for doing a good job at helping all of us and making everything fun,” she said.
Olivia Lown HEAD STAFF
Olivia is in the 8th grade, and this is her first musical at FRA. She has enjoyed being in the musical because it has helped in getting to know people at FRA and developing a community of friends. She is grateful we were still able to do this production, but she also looks forward to being able to do shows in-person again with no masks. Olivia would like to thank Mrs. Mia for making this all happen.
Kate McGuire PEPPER
Kate is a 6th grader, and this is her second year performing in the middle school musical. Her favorite aspect of musical theatre is character development, whether playing a lead or in the ensemble. She also loves getting to sing and make friends with people she might otherwise not get a chance to know. “Pepper is complex and kind of mean to everyone,” she said. “She has had a hard life and doesn’t want to get close to anyone for fear of getting hurt.” Kate had a lot of fun in Zoom rehearsals, but looks forward to returning to full-cast rehearsals in which she and her castmates can make memories together backstage. “I would like to thank Mrs. Mia for organizing the play and Zoom rehearsals,” she said. “She did a great job, and we wouldn’t have been able to do this without her. She is amazing. I would also like to thank FRA for letting us do a musical in general. I would also like to thank my fellow cast members. Even though we’re not always together, we can still make a great musical.”
Kaylee McRae ORPHAN
Kaylee is a 6th grader, and this is her second middle school musical. Her favorite part about being in the musical is getting to pretend to be a completely different person. She also enjoyed pre-recording the vocals this year, dress rehearsals, and getting to be around friends. Kaylee would like to thank her mom and dad for being there for her.
Pete Mondzelewski LOUIS HOWE, “ANGRY MAN,” AND NEW YORKER
Pete is in the 8th grade, and this is his first middle school musical. One of Pete’s favorite aspects of musical theatre is how “it’s a safe place where you can show everyone a different part of your personality.” He also enjoys being part of something that is bigger than him. His favorite part of this experience has been getting to spend time with his friends while doing something he loves. “I would like to thank Mrs. Mia and Mrs. Pitts for setting all this up for us,” he said. “I also would like to thank them for how much effort and creativity they put in because of COVID-19.”
Miranda Montee ORPHAN
Miranda is in the 6th grade, and this is her first time in the middle school musical. Her favorite aspects about musical theatre are learning choreography and the teamwork that it takes to put on a play. She especially loves that she and Avery Grace chose to make their orphan characters sisters (Lily and Janey!) Miranda would like to thank her mom and dad, because they were the ones who pushed her to do the musical.
Kinsley Moulds DRAKE
Kinsley is a 7th grader, and this is her third time performing in the middle school musical. When asked what she loves most about musical theatre, she said, “I just really like to act. I find it fun.” Her favorite part about playing Drake is getting to be a “snooty butler” who “always pops up right when you need him and has a tendency to eavesdrop!” This year, Kinsley has particularly enjoyed hanging out with friends in different grade levels and not having to worry about singing live since the vocals were prerecorded. Kinsley thanks her mom for pushing her to do the musical this year.
Victoria Ogden MOLLY
Victoria is a 5th grader making her middle school musical debut. She loves musical theatre because she gets to sing, dance, and lean on fellow cast members while building friendships. She likes getting to play Molly because the character is fun, kind, and enthusiastic. Victoria says that the show this year was “hard, but we worked and got through it together, and it made us a good team.” She would like to thank her mom and dad for “helping me keep track of all of this. I could not have done it without them.”
Raegan Ransom TESSIE
Raegan is a 6th grader who is new to FRA this year. She is excited to perform in her first FRA middle school musical, and it has been a great way to get to know more people at the school. She enjoys playing Tessie because it’s fun to pretend to be a “cry baby.” “I would like to thank Mrs. Mia for making the musical happen and saying, ‘The show will go on!’,” she said. “I’m sure it was a lot of work for her. Even though we had to do things differently, I’m so thankful that we were able to do it at all!”
Alec Rodriguez BERT HEALY, RADIO ANNOUNCER, AND HEAD STAFF
Alec is in 5th grade and is making his middle school musical debut. He enjoys musical theatre because he likes getting to pretend to be another person. This year he has particularly enjoyed getting to sing with everyone and pre-record the vocals. He also loves getting to wear a mustache. He is mostly looking forward to being able to see all of his friends again without masks. “I would like to thank Mrs. Mia and Mrs. Pitts for giving me a chance to be in the play,” he said.
Sydney Rybacki ORPHAN
Sydney, a 5th grader, is performing in her first middle school musical. Her favorite things about musical theatre are acting, learning songs and choreography, and getting to make new friends. One silver lining about the different process this year was that “it felt like we had more time to practice.” Sydney looks forward to future productions in which she won’t have to wear a mask and can practice with even more friends. “I’d like to thank Mrs. Mia and Mrs. Pitts for casting me and helping me learn,” she said. “I also would like to thank my family for their support!”
Allegra Scarlet GRACE
Allegra is a 6th grader, and this is her second middle school musical. Her favorite thing about musical theatre is “the cheesy jokes and randomly breaking out into song.” Since COVID-19 stopped her from doing other activities, the musical felt even more special this year. She particularly enjoyed getting to play a “proper” character and rehearse in smaller groups (though she can’t wait for everyone to be able to be together again). Allegra thanks Mrs. Mia for “doing this virtual show and making it so fun for us!”
Helen Schriner ORPHAN
Helen is a 5th grader, and this is her first middle school musical. She enjoys musical theatre because “it’s super fun and makes me feel happy.” She particularly loves getting to dance and act with her friends and rehearse and film in person. She also loves how much fun her character is to play. She is most looking forward to getting to do a production with lots of in-person rehearsals and a live performance in front of an audience. “I would like to thank the people who put this all together with all the COVID-19,” she said.
Akina Smith ORPHAN
Akina is in the 5th grade and is making her middle school musical debut. Her favorite parts of this year’s production were practicing the choreography and trying on orphan costumes. “I would like to thank Mrs. Mia for bringing the Annie musical to FRA,” she said. “I had so much fun learning dances, staging, trying on costumes, and making new friends.”
Lyda Smith LILY
Lyda is in the 6th grade, and this is her second middle school musical. She loves musical theatre because “you get to be yourself.” She is grateful for getting to do a musical this year, given the circumstances, but also looks forward to being able to hug her friends in future productions. “I would like to thank Mrs. Pitts for organizing all the emails and my mom and dad for letting me have this opportunity,” she said. “I would also like to thank my big brother, Owen ,for being so supportive in so many different ways, which means a lot to me.”
Amory Taylor STAR-TO-BE #2
Amory is an 8th grader, and this is her second time performing in the middle school musical. Her favorite part of musical theatre is singing and getting to express herself through acting. Amory would like to thank her mom for always being there for her.
Ava Jean Teague HEAD STAFF
Ava Jean is an 8th grader, and this is her first middle school musical. She looks forward to getting to see musicals and other shows in person again in the future. Ava Jean would like to thank Mrs. Mia and everyone who helped with the musical this year.
Cole Thornton DOG CATCHER
Cole is in the 5th grade, and this is his middle school musical debut. His favorite aspect of musical theatre is acting, and he has particularly enjoyed getting to act alongside his friends in this production. Cole is looking forward to the day he will be able to go places without a mask. He thanks both of his parents for being kind.
Hayes Tompkins MR. BUNDLES AND HEAD STAFF
Hayes is in the 6th grade, and this is his second middle school musical. Hayes loves music and is also in a rock band with Nashville School of Rock. “To be able to mix theatre and music together is fun and exciting,” he said. This year, he has particularly enjoyed getting to play a featured role with lines for the first time. He also liked learning the music and choreography and the virtual rehearsals. “Being able to do some of the practices via Zoom, while barefoot and in my room was kind of fun,” he said. Hayes looks forward to the day he won’t have to wear a mask. Hayes would like to thank Mrs. Mia for casting him and his parents for choosing FRA for him so he can have the opportunity to be able to experience musical theatre.
K-Love Vinet MRS. PUGH
K-Love is in the 5th grade, and this is her middle school musical debut. Her favorite aspects of musical theatre are getting to become a different person, singing, and learning and performing choreography. She was especially excited to be cast as Mrs. Pugh and notes that it’s fun to play a character so different from herself. K-Love looks forward to not having to wear a mask everywhere. She would like to thank the cast for working so hard “even though it was almost all virtual.”
Mackenzie Wade ORPHAN
Mackenzie is a 5th grader, and this is her first middle school musical. Her favorite aspect of musical theatre is choreography. This year she has especially enjoyed being able to record her vocals in the studio and rehearse and perform alongside her friends. When asked what she likes about her role, Mackenzie answered, “the costume, character, songs, getting to dance…pretty much everything!” “I would like to thank Mrs. Mia and Mrs. Pitts for working hard for this whole thing to work and figuring out ways to do it where we are all safe,” she said.
Olivia Warrix DUFFY
Olivia is in the 8th grade, and this is her second middle school musical. Her favorite things about musical theatre are meeting new people and getting to spend more time with her friends. One cool coincidence is that “Duff” is a family name, so being cast in the role of Duffy felt extra special. Olivia looks forward to the day she will no longer have to wear a mask and wants to thank Mrs. Mia for “making all this happen, even during COVID-19.”
Elle Wesley MISS HANNIGAN
Elle is in the 7th grade, and this is her third time performing in the middle school musical. Her favorite things about musical theatre are getting to meet new people and perform in front of an audience. She looks forward to future productions when she can rehearse again with a full cast. Elle would like to thank Mrs. Mia for all of her hard work and for keeping this musical safe and fun.
Riley West ANNIE
Riley is a 5th grader making her middle school musical debut. One of her favorite parts of being in the production this year has been getting to spend time with people and make new friends—especially since COVID-19 has made that difficult. “I love how Annie always shows optimism, determination, and strength, even in the face of hardship and challenges,” she said. “She is a great example for us this year. Once things are back to normal, I am excited to hopefully be able to perform in the middle school musical again, live, and get to see all of my friends and family more often. Sammie is in the 8th grade and has been in the middle school musical every year since 5th grade. Her favorite aspects of musical theatre are acting and getting to be with all of her friends. Sammie would like to thank her big brother, Mario, for getting her into acting and Mrs. Mia for putting this all together.
Join FOTA FOTA was created to provide financial, moral, and volunteer support for students and teachers participating in music, drama, and art programs throughout the school, at every grade level from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade, and the community. Stream Annie Jr. Online Our production of Annie Jr. is made possible by a licensing agreement with Music Theatre International. This agreement allows us to legally present the pre-recorded video of our show in a virtual format (streaming). Our contract also requires us to use a ticketing/streaming platform called ShowTix4U. Patrons will be able to purchase a 48-hour view-on-demand rental from March 5-8, 2021. Due to associated royalties, there is a $2.58 fee for each on-demand rental. The school will not profit from this charge; it is solely to cover the fees associated with MTI and ShowTix4U.
