Distinguished Young Women deadline approaches By Staff Reports Participants in the Distinguished Young Women program have the chance to win college scholarships. Since 1958, Distinguished Young Women (formerly known as Junior Miss) has given away more than one billion dollars in scholarships nationally. There is no charge to enter. Steam locomotive delivery to Red Bay set to arrive this summer By Staff Reports A 1923 restored steam locomotive engine and tinder will be delivered to the Red Bay Railroad Park in Red Bay, Ala. Arrival is expected late July or August. The Red Bay Museum and the City of Red Bay have worked together to establish a Railroad Park in Red Bay, directly across from the Red Bay Museum. Red Bay student earns spot on President’s List at Lawson State Community College By Staff Reports Juli Jones of Red Bay was named to the President’s List this spring at Lawson State Community College. She was among 133 students named to the list. President’s List Scholars attained a grade point average of 4.0, consisting of a minimum course load of twelve semester hours of collegelevel courses or above.

He graduated from Tharptown High School and attended Northwest Shoals Community College. He works at Axis Sound & Lighting Equipment. He has been in several productions at the Roxy. Keylee Mayfield is 11 years old and an upcoming sixth grader at Russellville Middle School. She enjoys sing-
ing, softball, volleyball, going to church and partaking in the Roxy shows, including the Christmas Spectacular and Salute to Broadway. She takes voice lessons at Love to Sing Studio with Tara Greenhill and baton twirling at Studio X-treme with Heather Davis. Dana Hill grew up in Belgreen. She has always enjoyed singing as a hobby. She has performed at local festivals and events, talent shows and in several contest, winning at the North Alabama State
Fair twice. She entertained American troops and families in Europe as part of a DOD/USO Entertainment group in 1998. She teaches second grade at Belgreen and still enjoys singing at local events and in her church choir. Buford Parker is known in the community and the surrounding area for his Ray Price performances. Russellville’s Susie Malone wins national GFWC Jennie Award By María Camp maria.camp@ franklincountytimes.com Russellville’s Susie Hovater Malone received recognition as the winner for the GFWC national volunteer award (Jennie Award), as well as the deep south region volunteer award. Malone’s designation for the southern region was awarded previously, and the national award was presented during the General Federation of Women’s Clubs Interntional’s annual convention, held this year at the Chicago Hilton, June 28-July 1, during the Sunday banquet. “I was very excited and honored to receive the Jennie Award,” Malone said. “This is the biggest award the GFWC gives in recognition of an individual member.” The Russellville GFWC Book Lovers Study Club recommended Malone as the club’s Jennie Award nominee for Alabama. At the 2023 annual AFWC Convention, Malone won the Alabama Jennie
