From Your PNC Committee
We are very excited to announce that Reverend Craig N. Goodrich, has unanimously been voted to become the next Senior Pastor/Head of Staff, for our wonderful church. Since our committee’s first meeting in August of 2013 we have reviewed almost 300 Personal Information Forms. It was a unanimous decision of the Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) that God is calling Craig Goodrich to our church. We believe Craig’s ability to deliver a sermon that relates the Lord’s teaching to how we should live our lives is one of the reasons we were initially drawn to him. After meeting him, and his wife Andie, we witnessed that their love of life, family and church is strong and enthusiastic. They are a wonderful team! Craig has extensive experience in all administrative areas. His and Andie’s love of Christ and his dedication to ministry is rooted in a strong theological knowledge and love. We are very excited and encouraged as Craig will lead our church into the next chapter together. We are guided by the Holy Spirit, as we turn to a bright future with Craig’s leadership, guidance and spiritual stability. We are very grateful for your faithful prayers and for God’s tangible guidance during these past years. It has been an honor and privilege for all of us to represent our church in this process. This experience has reaffirmed our hope and excitement for our congregation and for the PC (USA). We eagerly anticipate the vibrant future of our church and its ministry to the community. Rev. Craig Goodrich, Senior Pastor/Head of Staff Dear First Presbyterian Friends: I write with great joy and anticipation in the afterglow of the wonderful worship this past Sunday and the affirmation of the congregation's call to me to be your next pastor. My wife, Andie and I are very excited and eager to move to Naples and to join you in your faithful ministry as together we follow and serve our Lord Jesus Christ. Many thanks to the Pastor Nominating Committee and now dear friends: Libby, Cris, Don, Cal, Jane, Rex and Debbie who have served so faithfully and thoroughly and have represented you so well. And thanks to Dr. Will Browne who although had the title Interim, was a true pastor to you in every sense of that word, preaching the gospel in word and deed, encouraging you and loving you. Over the last few days I have had time to get to know your staff members and I look forward to joining this remarkable team, each of whom is dedicated to giving their best to this church. And one final thought. Some of you know that our daughter, Lara and her husband, Zack, have been hiking the Pacific Crest Trail this summer. Ten days ago they completed the Mexico to Canada Trek of 2,650 miles and, of course, we are very proud of them. They planned well, took care of each other and persevered through the joyous and beautiful times as well as the hard times. Perhaps the life of a congregation is like that as well. You have been on a journey together, a long and faithful thru-hike. It is now my great privilege to join you for a time. I look forward to walking with you and to all the peaks and valleys and vistas that lie ahead. I wish for us all faith, courage and joy in the journey. Prior to his solo ventures, Nathan was in bands in his home town of Wilmington, NC. These projects were invaluable in giving him the experience to fine tune his craft and shape his music career into what it is today. He has made long lasting relationships with the talented musicians who he has continued to collaborate with on subsequent projects, including his most recent album. This “Coffee House” style concert will take place in Spencer Hall. Drinks and dessert will be served. All proceeds from this special concert will benefit the Youth Program at First Presbyterian Church.
Nathan Storey is a seasoned folk rock singersongwriter from Charlotte, North Carolina. Nathan has developed a sound where, “he puts lush emotion and sincerity into each note making any listener sit up and take notice…his melodies and chord changes become hook laden delights,” as described by John Fonvielle, The Beat Magazine. In his songwriting,"Storey weaves intimate tunes, filled with emotion and powerful metaphor," as detailed by Hunter Gardner of Charleston Grit. Nathan released his second album, A Sea To Sail , in May of 2015. He is currently working on touring to promote the album and expand his fan base. His hope is that this album would connect with listeners on very relatable level and that his tour will allow him to make connections in person about music, life, and faith. With his first album, The Falcon and the Fox , he had the opportunity to perform at venues all over the east coast from New York City all the way to Orlando, Florida. Notable venues include the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., The Evening Muse, and The Double Door Inn in Charlotte. Moving forward, he hopes to expand on this success and use his new record to open even more doors.
Children’s Choir All children grades K-5 are invited to join Dr. Brice and Miss Shana in the Children’s Choir Room following worship for music and singing. Parents can enjoy an extra cup of coffee while the children practice. Children will be finished at 11 a.m.

The Birthday Mission Fund The Birthday celebration invites members and friends to give one dollar or more for each year of their life on a Sunday nearest to their birthday. Feed the 5,000 Luke 9:10-17 This month, food collection will be for St. Matthews House. St. Matthews House feeds the hungry, houses the homeless, and provides opportunities to change lives for the better, in a caring, spiritual environment. Suggested items are: coffee sugar all purpose flour pasta sauce canned fruit peanut butter jam or jelly canned tuna, chicken, or spam dried beans hot or cold cereal PLEASE—no open packages or out of date food. Ushers will have a Publix bag with a list of desired food items available as you leave the Sanctuary on the first Sunday of the month. Please bring your food to the 6th Street church entrance before the service on the second Sunday. STEPHEN MINISTRY People often ask, “What exactly is a Stephen Minister?” One way to put it is that Stephen Ministers are the After People. Stephen Ministers are there… ...after the phone call you hoped you’d never get. ...after the divorce papers are served and the bottom falls out of your life. ...after the funeral, when everyone has left and the emotions you’ve held at bay come crashing in on you. ...after the doctor says, “I’m sorry, but there' s nothing more we can do.” ...after the nursing home director shakes your hand and says, “Welcome to your new home.” ...after the last child honks the horn, waves, and drives away—and the house suddenly seems empty. ...after the gavel goes down, the handcuffs go on, and your loved one is led away. ...after the baby arrives, demanding more of you than you ever dreamed possible. ...after you find a pink slip with your final paycheck. ...after your family and friends have heard your story one too many times, but you still need to talk it out. Stephen Ministers are the “After People.” They are ready to come alongside you—or your friends, neighbors, coworkers, or relatives—and provide comfort and support for as long after as needed.

Presbyterian Women
The Presbyterian Women are ready to start the 2015-2016 Season. The “Bring a Piece of Salad” August Luncheon was a success. PW had a summer project that had First Presbyterian Church of Naples collecting school supplies. Because the generosity of members an overflowing trunk of school supplies was delivered to
Grace Place for Children and Families, a nonprofit neighborhood center.
Last spring new officers were elected and installed. The Coordinating Team of PW is primed and ready for the coming year. The programs for the monthly Gatherings have already been set by Barbara Church and Janet Root. The menu for each Gathering has been chosen and again this year the kitchen crew will be headed by Diane Stellema and Betty Mangos and ably assisted by Margaret Green, Saralene Oldham, and Mary VandeVoren. We look forward to our luncheons of yummy food. The October Gathering will be hosted by Peace with Honor Circle. Reservations will be available in Spencer Hall for the usual $7 beginning October 4. Most importantly, the Bible Study is ready to begin at the October Gathering. This year’s study will be
Horizon’s, Come to the Water. Those that have helped
Jeanie Weigel pick the study say it is really interesting. The study books will be on sale ($8) in Spencer Hall beginning October 4. As October fades into November, please mark your calendars for the November Gathering on Wednesday, November 4, hosted by Sunshine Circle.

The Presbyterian Women recently honored two long time members of the Sew & Sews.
Mary Burns and Marcella Coe recently retired from their positions as group leaders for the Thursday group that meets twice a month to work on sewing projects for the church and other mission groups. Mary has been with the Sew & Sews for 27 years and Marcella has been working with them for nearly 50 years! Each was presented with a crystal plaque that reads:
“Thank you for your faithfulness to God’s work for these many years”

Sunday, October 25 visit to the Naples Zoo! We will meet at the zoo at 11:30 a.m. and enjoy walking around and getting to know each other better. These are meant to be a family event so all family members are encouraged to attend. Children must have a parent/grandparent with them to participate.

DISASTER ASSISTANCE TRAINING We are very pleased to inform you that on Saturday, August 29, four Presbyterian Women; Joan Gust (PW moderator), Betty Mangos, Saralene Oldham and Patty Rutzler were trained and commissioned in disaster preparedness. They are part of a new collaboration between Presbyterian Women and Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to work with congregations, families, Presbyteries and communities to strive to be prepared in the event of an emergency or direct hit by disaster; natural, human-caused or industrialtechnical. These women have made a 3 year commitment to actively seek, set-up and conduct at least three disaster preparedness trainings per year. They also made a commitment to be in communication with the Presbytery of Peace River and Florida Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Network. Connecting churches’ disaster plans with the Presbytery will benefit everyone. At the training they developed their plan for moving forward with disaster preparation in the Presbytery. Please welcome and support their assistance in this preparedness plan.

Thank You Dear Rev. Dr. Will, Words are inadequate to express our profound gratefulness to you for shepherding our congregation these past several months. Perhaps the best example of our appreciation were the many, many questions asking why you could not be considered to remain as our senior pastor. Although we anticipate the arrival of the person God is calling to Naples First Pres, we shall miss your "right on"sermons, your sense of humor, and your firm but easy going management of the staff and volunteers. Your keen insight into what was best for us in this interim time has reenergized and prepared us well for our next chapter. Even if it does feel inadequate, THANK YOU for sharing your love of God with us. This note is to thank you for the lovely vase of flowers I received from the Board of Deacons and the visits from Saralene Oldham, Shirley Hagerson and Diana and David Curry. Also for the get well wishes that I received during my recent surgery and rehabilitation.
