JULY-AUGUST 2020 / Volume 65 Number 57 Photo by Devin Ford Photography

STANDING STRONG. rom tired parents educating and entertaining their children at home to local business owners implementing safety procedures and generating new avenues of revenue, it’s a theme we’ve seen (and endured) for several months. Thoroughly impressed, we were inspired to use these adaptations as the underlying current in creating one of our most popular issues of the year, The Beautiful Issue. Leaving the secure confines of our own homes to carefully give each of the 50 their moment in the sun, the commonalities of persevering were clear. But the 50 are not alone. It seems the people of the Bay Area are made of the grit and tenacity required to endure and succeed. I was touched to hear the support and advice swapped between them. It gave me great hope, as we’re truly in this together after all. With hope in mind, we couldn’t have dreamed of a better backdrop than The Hope Farm in Fairhope. Dedicated to the best in sustainable farming, gourmet dishes, design, and customer service, ACCESS spent four days committed to treating the 50 to the best in hair, makeup, and wardrobe at this new destination. For me, I felt like I was lost somewhere in the Hamptons. With all the white, wood, and justright décor set amongst fruit trees, immaculate floral gardens, and private spaces, it seems social distancing was a part of the plan all along. It’s something you have to see to believe. So, with newfound excitement and hope for the future inspired by these 50 special people doing life while facing a pandemic, civil unrest, and more, we are more than proud to present our 2020 Beautiful Issue. And remember, we are always here to tell your stories and are just a click away. Enjoy the issue and support local all you can during these critical times, as our local businesses give our cities character, help us in emergencies, and employ our friends and family. You won’t regret it. Lastly, thank you to all our advertisers for continuing to support ACCESS. We simply couldn’t do this without you.

THE SCENES...

What do you do when your largest shoot of the year falls during a pandemic? Pack up all of your makeup, wardrobe, and equipment and head to The Hope Farm for four jam-packed (albeit socially distanced) days of shooting, of course! Needless to say, we all had a blast, as these pictures speak for themselves!

Each year ACCESS scours the Bay Area to discover some of the Gulf Coast’s most influential men and women deserving of a spot in our annual “Beautiful Issue.” With our ever-changing world, we dug deeper into our community this year and reevaluated what it means to be truly beautiful — not only on the outside, but more importantly, on the inside. What we found were 50 selfless men and women making strides in their lives, careers, and our small community despite the hardships we have all faced over the past few months. Each of these individuals display qualities that truly set them apart from others, whether it’s fighting on the frontlines of COVID-19, adapting to a “new normal” for their business, or just finding small ways to give back to those in need. Fairhope’s newest addition, The Hope Farm, inspires modern tranquility and served as the perfect location for our photo shoot. With its lush, sprawling grounds and breathtaking architecture, the beauty of the space truly matched that of our 50, thus creating perfect harmony. That said, we are extremely proud to present to you the 50 Most Beautiful of 2020.

LAWREN REAVES HOMETOWN Fa i rh o pe, A L The Chief Operating Officer at Fairhope’s newest obsession, The Hope Farm, Lawren Reaves says she first met father/son duo Bentley and Robert Evans in 2018, and it wasn’t long before the new friends were jumping headfirst into a new business venture. “After a few meetings, they decided to hire me to become part of The Hope Farm,” she fondly recalls. “I don’t think I could ever express to them how thankful I am and how lifechanging this has been for me. This is so much more than work… those two are my family.” In keeping with The Hope Farm’s theme of community, Lawren says the best part about her job is the people she meets and those with whom she’s privileged to work. “It is so important to be surrounded by people that lift you up,” she shares. “Our community was so eager to come try our concept and support us in every way. We are so blessed to be a part of the Fairhope small business community.” Along with husband Grant Reaves, Lawren says she loves taking advantage of the diverse restaurants and shops in Downtown Fairhope like Sadie’s, Sway, CK Collection, Red or White, Living Well, and Provision. However, her favorite restaurant has to be Jesse’s in Magnolia Springs. “My husband’s family grew up there, so it holds a special place in our hearts,” Lawren says. Also an avid equestrian, Lawren says she’s ridden horses for the majority of her life and has recently taken up Dressage at Undigo Farms in Fairhope. “I love the people there and I love the horse that I ride,” she shares. “It has truly been a blessing to be involved with those women!” When it comes to beauty, Lawren believes having confidence is a person’s most important trait and is thankful to have had many confident women mold her into the woman she is today. “As I have gotten older, I have seen how important it is to have many role models to depend on,” Lawren shares. “They know who they are, and I am thankful for each of them.” Lawren says she, too, hopes to make a lasting impact on both her personal relationships and her career, living by the motto, “Go after what you really love and find a way to make that work for you. Then you’ll be a happy person.”

FUN FACT: “I am also a real estate agent with Wise Living Real Estate. I love interior design and helping others find their homes!” CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: “My pink lipstick and my friends.” Hair Jessica Bonner, ColoréVous Salon Co., Fairhope 251.270.7171 / Makeup Courtney Matthews Makeup Artistry, youneedblush2020@gmail.com Dress, $295; Dillard’s, 251.471.1551. AARON & LESLIE VANHAUTER HOMETOWN Loxley, A L Owner of ADvantage Digital Agency and Simply CBD co-owner Aaron VanHauter and his wife Leslie are a formidable pair, both working in industries that allow them to help others — albeit in very different ways. “Both jobs allow me to work directly with people in a way that helps them succeed, and I love that,” says Aaron, who emphasizes the importance of treating others the way you want to be treated. “You have a voice and your voice has value,” he says. “Use it and use it well.” Accordingly, Leslie is well-aware of the impact of her voice. “What I do or say can have a meaningful impact on peoples’ lives — not only the children, but their families, too,” Leslie says, who serves as an elementary school teacher in Baldwin County. “I have the honor of being an instrumental part of shaping our community,” she beams, citing that though the school year looked vastly different than in years passed thanks to COVID-19, she was still able to have an impact thanks to a differentiated, digital learning platform. “It’s not the lessons I’ve taught that my children will remember; it’s the connections we’ve made,” she says. When it comes to inner beauty, Aaron and Leslie agree that it’s confidence and empathy for others that makes a person truly shine. Both philanthropically engaged, Aaron uses his digital media platform to consult with start-ups in the area to help them launch their businesses at no charge. Leslie volunteers with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Mobile and is also proud to be a part of Color Street Foundation, which has partnered with countless charities and foundations supporting the mental and physical health of others. “I’m also a National Beta Club Sponsor at Magnolia School preparing children to become tomorrow’s leaders through achievement, character, leadership, and service.” Having lived in Alabama for nearly seven years, Aaron says it’s the “weather and the slower pace of life” that he loves the most. “Living on the Gulf Coast and in the South in particular has been a welcoming time of learning and growth in my life,” Leslie adds. “The culture, community, philanthropy, and ‘honoring our own’ has enriched my life! We’re all connected and one big family.” FUN FACT ABOUT AARON: “I can’t stop a project until it’s completed. NOT EVEN A BREAK.” LESLIE’S PERSONAL MANTRA: “My mantra is ‘No plans, just options!’ There was a time in my life that I had to control EVERYTHING. I wasn’t spontaneous at all. I decided to let some of that control go and let adventure in.” 8 ACCESS Magazine / July-August 2020

CHELSEA LIPFORD WOLF HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L A passion for home improvement runs in Chelsea Wolf’s family, made apparent through her role as co-host for TV’s “Today’s Homeowner” alongside her father, Danny Lipford. “I’ve been co-hosting for three years now,” Chelsea shares. “I grew up behind the scenes watching my father during summer breaks and loved the slight chaos and rush of creating TV. Now, I get to work with my dad helping homeowners take an idea or dream for their home and make it a reality!” When it comes to her career, Chelsea believes it’s important to never stop learning, whether it’s a new skill, a new technology, or pursuing personal growth. “‘I don’t know’ is never an answer,” she says. Chelsea says she met her husband when they both were volunteers for Little Sisters of the Poor — a charity the pair continue to support and volunteer with today. They have been married for six years and have three “yellowhaired” children: Mary Helen (4), Gus (3), and Lucy (1). Spending her time with her family is where Chelsea says she is truly the happiest. “I love surprising my kids with a trip to Old Dutch or taking them on adventures to the Exploreum,” she shares. “I see it as my greatest privilege to make their childhood as magical as I remember mine.” Having garnered her personal mantra from a fortune cookie, Chelsea lives by the saying: “A smile can always overcome the barrier of language.” “I love it because it’s so true and underrated,” she says. “Flashing a smile can turn someone else’s day back in a positive direction without saying a word.” If she didn’t have to work, Chelsea says she would work out more, read a lot of books, and cut fresh vegetables for lunch every day. “In reality I would probably work on DIY projects around my house and then do projects at my friends’ houses, too,” she jokes. And like a true lover of home improvement, Chelsea says she can’t live without her good friend, Home Depot.

GUILTY PLEASURE: “I love self-checkouts at stores. They help me realize my childhood dream of being a cashier.” BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: “Always take a half-second before entering an intersection after the light turns green. It literally saved my life.”

TYLER BIRCH HOMETOWN Ci ncinna ti, OH AT&T Sales Consultant and basketball trainer Tyler Birch has lived in the Bay Area for 22 of his 27 years on this Earth, using both platforms to help others get out of their comfort zones by teaching them new skills and working to seek change in their communities. “I’m big on integrity,” Tyler shares, citing that a person’s morals, values, and what they do when no one is watching is what defines them. As father to 2-year-old daughter Sorella, Tyler says he knows the importance of being a positive role model to others, citing his parents as the two who have influenced him the most in life — his dad in particular. “He’s a hardworking man,” Tyler shares. “My brothers and I talk often about how my father taught us how to make sacrifices in order to achieve what we want in life.” He’s also fiercely proud of his heritage. “To have grown up Black in Alabama, I would not personally feel comfortable without mentioning my community,” Tyler says. “Although we are aware of the systematic changes throughout the history of Alabama’s racist background, Civil Rights, and the injustice for equality, all that was only 50-60 years ago. I personally have seen a lot change from when I grew up, as we are aware that though there are still issues, we also are aware that generations don’t have to be a part of the curse, but the cure to make changes. We can work together as one. Black lives matter. Always have. Always will!”

FUN FACT: “My dad nicknamed me ‘Bone’ because that was his name growing up. I was born on November 8th, so my nickname became a destined acronym. B.O.N.E.: Born on November Eighth.” CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: “Music! I love all genres. Positive vibrations are everything.”

LIZA & PEIRSON ROGERS HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L No, you aren’t seeing double! Sisters Liza and Peirson Rogers have taken the fashion world by storm as part of Brandon Maxwell’s Design team in New York City. After graduating from The University of Alabama, the pair applied to what seemed like hundreds of internships in New York, and though they both made a conscious effort to apply to different companies, the two soon caught the eye of emerging Luxury Fashion Designer Brandon Maxwell. “Just when we were starting to feel we’d exhausted our efforts, they hired both of us,” Peirson shares. “The company was very young then, with only five full-time employees when we started. But Brandon was really taking off, and within three months of interning there, we were both hired.” Liza adds, “A few years later he won the CFDA’s Fashion Designer of the Year Award. It’s been an extremely exciting journey from startup brand to major fashion house, and we’ve just been so honored to be along for the ride.” The pair have been working with Brandon for the past four years now, and Peirson says the best part about their job is the fact that no two days are alike. “On any given day, we could be working on a new collection, at a lookbook or campaign photo shoot, or scoping out the location for our next fashion show,” Peirson says. “There’s definitely a lot behind the scenes that goes into making sure the collections come together, but even those days are fun.” Working alongside some of the biggest names in fashion, the two have learned many valuable lessons, most importantly: “Things rarely ever go according to plan, so always have a backup plan,” Liza says. “And make sure the backup plan is pretty airtight, because (at least in my case) it’s frequently executed.” COVID-19 saw the backup plan pushed to the forefront, as many of Brandon Maxwell’s partners were forced to close. Luckily, a few local shops in Mobile stepped forward to lend a helping hand. “The sweet owners of What a Stitch did some embroideries for Brandon Maxwell when our embroiderers in New York were closed, and we even shipped a sewing Machine from All About Sewing on Schillinger Road to our seamstress in Queens when her machine was broken,” recalls Peirson.

PEIRSON’S GUILTY PLEASURE: “A nap every Sunday afternoon.” LIZA’S FUN FACT: “I’m ambidextrous! I use my left hand for writing , sketching , and eating , but use my right hand for just about everything else.”

KATHERINE LAPEYROUSE HOMETOWN Fa i rh o pe, A L The Owner of Gigi & Jay’s infant to tween boutique in Fairhope, Katherine Lapeyrouse says her favorite part about her job is the relationships she builds with her customers. Katherine first opened her store in 2011 after a friend gave her the fabulous idea, and she hasn’t looked back since. But with March and April serving as the shop’s busiest months, Katherine says she had to learn how to maneuver the barriers created by COVID-19. “We adjusted to the closing by going online and made our social media presence even stronger,” she shares. “We also offered free delivery locally and in Mobile. We have the best customers who continued to support us during those months, and we are so grateful,” she says. Community service is also extremely important to Katherine, as she has served as a Big Sister for Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Alabama for more than 10 years, and also fundraises for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Married to husband Michael Lapeyrouse, the two share a total of seven children combined: Clay Lapeyrouse (37), Bessie Lapeyrouse Stinson (35), Ludger Lapeyrouse (33), Lucy Lapeyrouse (18), Annie Loper (18), Henry Lapeyrouse (16), and Jay Loper (16). Some of her favorite local restaurants are Thyme, The Hope Farm, Red or White, and DragonFly, and she also enjoys shopping at Sway, Sadie’s, Living Well, and CK Collection. Katherine shares that she loves anything outdoors, whether boating, fishing, or deer hunting, and says her biggest role model in life is her mother because her determination outmatches anyone. It was also her mother who gave Katherine her most important piece of advice: “Everything happens for a reason!”

MOST EXCITING ADVENTURE: “Catching and releasing a Black Marlin in Australia.” PERSONAL MANTRA: “Jeremiah 29:11. ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.’”

MURPHY D. BISHOP II HOMETOWN Gra nd B ay, A L Cofounder and CEO of The Better Skin Co. Murphy Bishop II has spent the last 25 years traveling the U.S. in pursuit of his dreams, taking him from California to Illinois, Washington D.C., and more, before the Bay Area eventually called him home eight months ago. Driven, optimistic, and decisive, Murphy took his experience working in personal care for well-known brands such as Bobbi Brown, Stila, Estée Lauder, and Butter London, and decided it was time to start his own brand, which is why five years ago Murphy (along with his partner, Natalya) launched The Better Skin Co. Today, their skincare line can be found in various big-name stores including Bloomindales and at their local flagship, LUSH on Government Boulevard. In fact, during the Coronavirus outbreak (and thanks to avid online shoppers) Murphy saw the largest increase in direct to consumer business since their launch. When it comes to good business, Murphy says the biggest lesson he’s learned is, “Burning bridges leaves you doing the doggy paddle in murky waters. Be kind, create friendships, and the good karma will come tenfold.” Aside from his business, Murphy is very involved with the Distinguished Young Women program. He currently serves on the board and actively works with them on marketing initiatives. “The Better Skin Co. is also a scholarship sponsor and we work to use our global reach to spread the word about the program and the lifechanging scholarships that are given each year.” In addition, Murphy is exceedingly passionate about animal welfare (he’s a proud father to two French Bulldog rescues, Lana BLEU and Lulu BLEU), and dreams of opening an animal sanctuary one day, which will be a respite for all animals big and small. So far, Murphy has enjoyed his time back in the Bay Area soaking up the weather and enjoying the sense of community. An avid Epicurean, Murphy loves to dine out and taste the creations others have made, adding he can’t live without an excellent cup of coffee. Some of his favorite local spots are Hummingbird Way, Ashland Pub, NOVA Espresso, and Southern Shells (a hometown favorite in Grand Bay). He hopes to one day travel to Egypt, Italy, and Greece. FAVORITE QUOTE: “Life is a runway.” FUN FACT: “As a teenager, I dressed as the Quincy’s ‘Big Fat Yeast Roll’ and stood on Airport Boulevard waving at people passing by.”

LAURA JOHNSON HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L Laura was just 19 when she took a part-time position, but quickly decided she wanted to make a career out of it. Now she serves as the accounting clerk at Porsche Mobile and can’t imagine doing anything else, as the people and brands she works with each day make it all worth it. Though she’s young, Laura says the most important lesson she’s learned during her time in the industry is to always be open-minded and willing to learn new things. Laura’s biggest role model in life? “My dad,” she says. “He’s always made sure I’ve had everything I wanted/needed, and always goes above and beyond for his family.” Living by the motto, “Everything happens for a reason,” Laura says she puts her faith and path entirely in God’s hands, as she knows no matter what happens, “He always has a reason.” Describing herself as fiercely independent and spontaneous, Laura is always up for an adventure, especially if it involves the beach, as it is her favorite aspect of living in the Bay Area. A true Mobilian, seafood tops the list of Laura’s favorite foods, which is why Felix’s and Bluegill are some of her favorite eateries. Looking forward, Laura says she hopes to continue building a successful career, and hopefully start a family of her own one day.

FAVORITE TV SHOWS: “‘The Bachelorette,’ ‘Scandal,’ and ‘Greys Anatomy.’” BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: “Never stop learning and growing as a person.”

MARGARET SCHATZMAN HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L Serving as a real estate agent for LLB&B Real Estate, Margaret Schatzman says the best part about her job is working closely with potential homebuyers every day. “After working in New Orleans for a company where I sat behind a desk all day with little personal interaction, I decided I was ready to pursue something more people-oriented,” she shares. “I talked to my godmother in depth about real estate and the right time to move back to Mobile for a new adventure,” she says. And what an adventure it has been! Margaret has been successfully matching clients with their dream homes for the past two years. “I love the excited (albeit anxious) look on a customer’s face when they realize they found the house that feels like home.” The biggest lesson Margaret’s learned during her career? “Listen to your customers and be patient,” she says. “Sometimes they fall in love with the first house you show them. Sometimes, it’s the 20th, but a home is usually the biggest investment someone makes, so make sure you listen to their needs and be confident that you will find them the right one.” Along with her career in real estate, Margaret is honored to be a part of the Board for the Child Advocacy Center, whose mission is very rewarding to her, and serves as the vice chairperson for the Community Relations Committee at the Mobile Area Association of Realtors. Growing up in Mobile, Margaret says she absolutely loves being a part of this community as it continues to grow and develop (and being close to the water doesn’t hurt, either). She loves spending time on the Bay, and describes herself as avid food lover. Some of her top bites come from Blue Gill, NoJa, and Southern National. But traveling really has Margaret’s heart, from diving with great whites in Cape Town to walking with elephants on the plains of Botswana. “Africa was truly lifechanging,” she shares. “When it comes to beauty, I have never seen more of it in my life — lions hunting in a pack, giraffes walking next to their babies in the sunset, and meeting all the devoted and passionate people who just want you to appreciate this incredible place that they work so hard to preserve.” Living by the motto: “Live in the moment,” Margaret says she works to hone her focus and appreciate what she’s doing and who she’s with minute to minute, truly embodying what it means to be fully present. FUN FACT: “In college, I made a pretty impressive attempt at the Mugshot Challenge in Tuscaloosa. For those of you who don’t know about it, just imagine a month’s caloric intake in one burger in 13 minutes. Three more minutes and the title would’ve been mine.” CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: “A Ketel One martini, up with a twist — oh, and real estate. Call me when you’re ready.”

KIMBERLY SIMPSONMCKOY HOMETOWN Faye ttev ille, NC A fresh transplant to the Bay Area, Master Esthetician Kimberly Simpson-McKoy made the move to Lower Alabama just seven short months ago to help grow and develop the aesthetics department at Alabama Medical Group, with hopes to mold it into the premiere aesthetics practice in Mobile. “I started out working in the industry on the cosmetic side of the business 20 years ago and then transitioned to the medical aesthetics side,” Kimberly shares, citing her love for helping others feel better about their skin as her main motivation. She also enjoys volunteering her time weekly to work with new estheticians. “During these mentoring sessions, I offer advice to these new estheticians and help navigate them in the field by creating business plans for building their new careers,” she shares, adding, “You have to let your work speak for who you are.” The wife of Roy and mother of Andrew (6), Kimberly shares, “My husband and son appreciate the little things that I do in order to make their lives easier, and they always show their appreciation with me doing so.” In her leisure time Kimberly says she enjoys trying new recipes, reading trade magazines, and researching the latest and greatest in skincare products and new procedures. When it comes to inner beauty, Kimberly says the greatest quality one can possess is a genuine heart, citing her father, Joseph A. Simpson, as the true embodiment of that sentiment. “He has amazing leadership qualities and motivates others to work harder, but he is always his genuine self,” she shares. Excited about her new life in the Port City, Kimberly acknowledges that though her recent move required a leap of faith, her personal mantra says it best: “Live life without regrets.”

FUN FACT: “I am obsessed with people that live a subsistence lifestyle.” MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT: “I fell going up the steps with an already broken foot!”

She also oversees GSSA’s photography and videography, as well as their website and social media. “I get to be a part of so many different projects, programs, and events,” she shares. “I love being able to bridge the conversation between our organization and the public, whether it’s working on a membership campaign or going on TV to talk about one of our incredible Gold Award Girl Scouts,” she says. When COVID-19 hit, Karlee worked hard to launch GSSA’s Virtual Programs (designed to keep children engaged while at home), teaming up with organizations such as NASA and the Alabama Forestry Association along the way. And because Girl Scout cookies can cheer anyone up, GSSA donated all of its leftover cookies from the season to local hospitals, food banks, and first responders during the crisis. Outside of work, Karlee serves on the Board for the Public Relations Council of Alabama’s Mobile chapter. “I love meeting new people, especially in the public relations world,” she says. “Right now, my goal is to earn my Accreditation in Public Relations, which shows that you’re a leader in the competitive PR field.” Having only been in the Bay Area for two years, Karlee is still working on a list of her favorite local spots, but says Dauphin’s, Boudreaux’s, and The Haberdasher stand out to her so far. And when she’s not behind a computer working away, you can find her at the lake or the beach soaking up the sun with her friends. “Growing up in Andalusia, I practically lived on Gantt Lake during the summer, so having the Bay feels like home,” she shares. Her personal motto? “Your smile is your logo, your personality is your business card, and how you leave others feeling after an experience with you is your trademark.”

DEFINES INNER BEAUTY AS: “I think a person who is confident, caring , optimistic, brave, and authentic is stunning , inside and out.” BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: “Always be nice to everyone, because you never know what someone else is going through.”

M. SCOTT YEAGER & KIMBERLEY YEAGER HOMETOWN B i rm i ng ham, A L Having moved to Fairhope in 2009, Scott and Kimberley Yeager currently serve side by side at The Yeager Law Firm, P.C., and as attorney and president to the firm, Scott says the best part of the job is knowing he’s made a difference in the life of another. “I love when a client says they have peace once they have turned their issue over to us,” Scott shares. And Kimberley? She jokingly lists her job title is “everything else,” citing her roles as office manager, legal assistant, and bookkeeper as just a few of her many hats. “I love helping my husband help others,” she says. “We both have our different strengths that complement the other, so I think we make a good team.” Scott says the biggest lesson he’s garnered from a career in law is to keep your emotions in check. “We have a saying in the firm: ‘If you want someone to ride the rollercoaster with you, get a friend. We are here to flatten the hills and straighten the loops.’” Off the clock, Scott serves as President of The Fairhope Sunset Rotary, also sitting as a new board member of Rotary Youth. And Kimberley? “I love to help both of those groups for all of their events, though I prefer the silent partner and/or worker bee position,” she says. As for true beauty? “A beautiful person has a humble spirit,” Scott says. “They serve others without need for accolades or glory and place others before themselves. I see this in my wife, and I wish I were more like her.” For him, parenting their three children, Blaine Tharpe (21), Kathleen Tharpe (19), and Brooks Yeager (10) ties marriage for the most exciting adventure of his life. Kimberley agrees. “I have an amazing husband, kids that I am extremely proud of, my family, and caring friends,” Kimberley says. “That is all that really matters; anything else can be replaced.”

FUN FACT ABOUT SCOTT: “I used to play in garage bands and all I wanted to do in life was play drums for a hair band! I sported a tasty mullet during those days.” KIMBERLEY’S FAVORITE QUOTE: “My mission in life is not merely to survive, but to thrive; and to do so with some passion, some compassion, some humor, and some style.” - Maya Angelou Hair Jason Chambers, Headdress Salon, 251.689.7427 / Makeup Courtney Matthews Makeup Artistry, youneedblush2020@gmail.com Kimberley Heels, $140; The Gallery Shoe Boutique, 251.344.4257. GINNY STIMPSON HOMETOWN M cLea n , VA Ginny Stimpson has spent 21 of her 48 years living in the Bay Area, but only recently made the move into a career in interior design. “It’s officially been two years, but I probably really started in April of 2010 when I intentionally reconstructed and decorated our house with furnishings that actually made sense,” she shares. “My husband and I then rehabbed houses for flipping or renting for several years.” Not ready to slow down, Ginny adds she hopes to go back to school to obtain a Master of Fine Arts degree to get her license and concentrate more on interior architecture. “I just have to get my kids headed off to college (or just more independent) first,” she jokes. Philanthropically, Ginny previously served on the Library Board and has recently rolled off the Eastern Shore Repertory Theatre Board (an artistic outlet in which her three children have been heavily involved). “I am currently serving on the Kilborn Community Advisory Council for USA Health Systems, which has been an incredible experience,” she shares. “We have been able to raise money for our local cancer clinic and the outreach is fantastic.” Wife to John Stimpson, Ginny says the pair enjoy spending time with their sons, Benjamin (18), Sheppard (16), and John Jr. (15) traveling, experiencing new cultures, and soaking up the family-friendly atmosphere the Bay Area has to offer. Ginny shares that her husband simultaneously serves as her personal role model, citing his boundless self-discipline as one of his greatest qualities. “It was the first thing I fell in love with once I got past his looks,” she jokes. Her thoughts on what makes a person truly beautiful? “Kindness with a sense of humor and some spunk!”

FAVORITE LOCAL SPOTS: “I can run the gamut on Sadie’s, CK Collection, and East Bay, and Living Well is probably my favorite for everything décor. Provision is a new wine bar in town that our cousins just opened, and we can’t get enough.” FUN FACT: “I’ll admit, I’m a major ‘Star Wars’ fan. This has served me well having three boys.”

EMILY DOMINGUE, AU.D. HOMETOWN Gulf B re e ze, FL Helping people has been Emily Domingue’s passion ever since she can remember. After receiving her Doctorate of Audiology from The University of South Alabama, Emily ran a private practice clinic for three years before opening her own clinic in May of 2020: Nautilus Hearing in Spanish Fort. As an audiologist, Emily has the gift of treating and restoring hearing loss in her patients — something she says is extremely rewarding. “My favorite part about my job is reconnecting individuals with their loved ones,” Emily shares. “Hearing loss can cause an individual to feel isolated and give up on their social life or participating in events with their families. It is so rewarding to give the gift of hearing back to my patients.” Believing those who put others’ needs before their own makes someone beautiful, Emily dedicates her free time to visiting local nursing homes and offering free hearing screenings, free hearing aid cleanings, and informing the staff how to properly clean and maintain their members’ hearing aids. Emily is married to husband Trent and mother to twin girls Annie Kate (1) and Madison (1). She loves exploring new places in the area with her girls. “It is so much fun to see things through their eyes,” she says. Some of her favorite local spots are the Fairhope Pier, Sunset Pointe, The Fort, and Gambino’s. Emily shares that both of her parents have made a lasting impact on her life, as she tries to emulate them in both her career and everyday life. “My mom is the definition of a super woman,” Emily says. “She had an amazing career and maintained the perfect work/life balance. I am so lucky to have her.” And it was Emily’s father who gave her the best piece of advice: “He always told me, ‘If you’re going to do something, you might as well do it well.’ It stuck with me.”

LENISE LIGON HOMETOWN De tro it, MI Lenise Ligon is definitely a friendly, familiar face, having served as our local FOX10 evening news anchor for just over 12 years. “I worked and studied hard to become a journalist so that I could make a difference in my community through storytelling,” Lenise says. “We can learn so much from one another.” Lenise currently maintains the flow of information by broadcasting the news from home under the state’s Safer-at-Home Order aimed at containing the coronavirus pandemic. “Technology makes it doable, but it’s just not the same as being inside the studio,” she shares. “I miss the noise of the newsroom, laughing with my coworkers, and seeing reporters rushing into the sound booths to record their stories.” Describing herself as compassionate, health-conscious, competitive, and energetic, Lenise says her overall hope is that she is in some way making a difference. “I don’t want to just pass through,” she says. “My goal is to be remembered for the positive changes I initiated.” Well on her way, Lenise spends her free time pouring into various community organizations like the Eastern Shore Art Center and Impact 100 Baldwin County. She has also dedicated herself to the American Heart Association, where in February of 2019 she served as Chair for the Mobile Go Red for Women Leadership Luncheon. Lenise says her tenacity and “giving heart” stem from some of the most selfless people she’s ever known: her family. “My mother was a single parent, and among the many lessons she taught me, there’s one that always stuck with me: ‘You have to work hard for what you want in life,’” she shares, adding, “Ethel, my grandmother, was perhaps the biggest giver I’ve ever known. She spent much of her life helping others. I learned the importance of serving others from her.”

PERSONAL MANTRA: “Time is the ultimate currency. Spend it wisely.” BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: “Appreciate who you are. You are the only ‘you,’ so be the best version of yourself.”

KIM GARRETT HOMETOWN Ho u sto n, TX Victory Health Partners’ Director Kim Garrett says there’s no greater joy than that which comes from doing the work one was born to do — which is precisely why she loves her job so much. “I truly feel like God called me to serve at Victory for His purposes, and there’s nothing more rewarding than caring for others and working alongside our clinic’s mission-driven staff, partners, and donors,” she says, noting that aside from her everyday role at Victory, she also serves as the secretary for Mobile United’s Board of Directors and was in Leadership Mobile in 2014. “Victory’s co-founder, Tami Lightfoot, has always said, ‘Don’t miss the person right in front of you,’” Kim shares. “It can be easy to stick to our to-do lists and check all the boxes to feel accomplished, but God places people in front of us to share His hope and love every day. I pray every morning to have eyes to see and a heart open to those God places in my path — to be present.” At home, Kim is wife to husband John Garrett and mother to three children: June (5), Rhodes (3), and Luke (3 months). “With a dual working household, I treasure the weekends that we can spend with our kids,” Kim says. “It is the simple things with them that are so special — playing outside, going on walks, reading books, etc. We also love to have people over for meals. There is nothing better than sitting around a table with good food and great friends!”

DREAM TRAVEL DESTINATION: “My husband spent a summer in Thailand, and he has promised to take me there one day.” DEFINES INNER BEAUTY AS: “I think true inner beauty can be seen by how one treats other people. How someone serves ‘the least of these’ shows their heart and the beauty it contains.”

JENNIFER SCHULLER HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L A native Mobilian with more than 16 years of healthcare marketing experience and more than 20 years spent in the communications field, Jennifer Schuller (Marketing Director for Alabama Medical Group) is a true pro when it comes to balance. “I essentially have 28 bosses — my CEO and the 27 physicians who trust me to produce high-quality work that delivers results,” Jennifer says. “I work hard to maintain this level of trust (which keeps me engaged and excited), but at the same time, I love that my job enables me to enjoy my other passions in life like spending time with my family and friends and traveling.” Jennifer says she feels very fortunate to have the opportunity to work on a flexible schedule, especially as the wife of Emergency Room physician Aaron Schuller, M.D., and mother to two active boys: John Mastin (12), and Parker (10). “In addition to being involved with my children’s activities, I also enjoy serving as the president for my subdivision’s Homeowners Association and volunteering with organizations like the Ronald McDonald House, Wilmer Hall, and Family Promise,” she says. “Working with these organizations serves as a reminder of how very blessed I am.” Jennifer says the biggest lesson she’s learned so far in life is to know what you stand for — and what you don’t. “Knowing this gives you clarity,” she says. “In life it’s perfectly okay to look back, but only to see how far you’ve come — you’ll never see your next step if you’re constantly retracing your last one.” It also helps to have a role model like her mother, Mary Ballack. “She’s a caring and kind person,” Jennifer says. “I know she will tell me the truth (even if it’s not something that I want to hear), but she will do so without judgment and with my best interest at heart.” Jennifer shares her ultimate hope is for her family, friends, and herself to find and experience love, happiness, and peace in every aspect of life. “I want us all to have the ability to find strength in whatever life throws in our direction, and to always remember without darkness, you wouldn’t be able to see the stars shine bright,” she says.

FREDERICK GANTT HICKMAN, JR. HOMETOWN J a ckso n , MS Recent Philadelphia, Pa., transplant Gantt Hickman says he’s in constant pursuit of self-improvement — whether that be mentally, spiritually, emotionally, financially, or otherwise. “I believe we are all good people and we all make mistakes, whether that is in love, friendship, or business,” the 41-year-old owner of Fairhope’s TransAct Strategies says. “I try to be as understanding as I can and be the best friend I can be. Having a compassionate heart for those around you always shows through.” And it doesn’t hurt to have strong family backing. “My parents Freddy and Mary Margaret Hickman and my sisters Missy Hollis and Page Wilson have taught me that with hard work and love you can bounce back from anything,” Gantt says, citing spending time with his 7-year-old son William “Mac” McCormick Hickman can equally brighten any day. “When you have good family and friends around you, anything is possible.” And having felt the strain brought on by a global pandemic, Gantt realized firsthand just how important such a strong support system can be. “Sadly, not only have I struggled through the pandemic, but I’ve also witnessed the hardship this brought on many small businesses throughout Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee,” he says, sharing that he coped with these changes by helping friends with projects at their own businesses. “Helping them get ready for when the reopening happened was nice and kept me busy,” he says. He’s also gotten more involved in the community. “I recently was a volunteer for The Art of Communications Event,” he shares. “It was an inaugural event hosted and produced by Autism2Ability. We raised money for a new phone application that will help autistic individuals of all ages communicate more easily with others throughout the different stages of their lives.”

FAVORITE TV SHOWS: “‘The Office,’ ‘Seinfeld,’ ‘Schitts Creek,’ and ‘The Outer Banks.’” IF HE DIDN’T HAVE TO WORK, HE’D MOST LIKELY: “I like to think that I would spend it helping others, but we all have a bit of selfishness in us. So, I’d probably also enjoy traveling to different wine regions throughout the world.” Hair Jason Chambers, Headdress Salon, 251.689.7427.

STEPHANIE SNYDER EVANS HOMETOWN Ch i ca g o, IL There’s always something new happening at the Mobile History Museum, which plays a huge part in what makes Stephanie’s job as marketing and events manager so exciting. Though she absolutely loves her job, Stephanie says she sort of “fell in to” her career in marketing. Upon graduating college in 2008 with a degree in Interior Design, Stephanie joined AmeriCorps for two years, traveling with a team in the Northeast to help various non-profits. During her second year, her job brought her down to the Bay Area Food Bank where she helped rural communities apply for SNAP benefits. “I fell in love with Mobile, and as my service year was ending, a member of the marketing team happened to be leaving,” she recalls. “I thought, ‘Why not?’ And I’ve been in marketing ever since!” With countless weddings held annually at the Museum, Stephanie says being part of a couple’s special day is the best part about her job, which is why having to reschedule weddings during the COVID-19 crisis was difficult for her. “I almost cried on a couple of calls,” she says. “Even though I knew it wasn’t my fault, I just knew how much these brides put into their weddings.” Stephanie believes kindness and selflessness makes a person truly beautiful on the inside — qualities she exudes as Marketing Chair on the Board of Directors at Azalea City Montessori School. This organization provides families with affordable access to an authentic Montessori education, and seeks to fulfill the needs of the “whole child” by promoting values of independence, diversity, and creativity. As a Chicago native, Stephanie says the best part about living on the Bay is our weather. “I will take the heat and humidity over snow and ice any day,” she jokes. Living by the mantra, “Work hard, but don’t forget to relax and enjoy yourself,” Stephanie and her husband, Nathan, can often be found frequenting trivia nights at local bars and enjoying good eats at the Bike Shop or the Haberdasher. An adventure lover, Stephanie plans to cross visiting all 50 states off her bucket list someday. “I’m over halfway there already; I’ve visited 34!”

PAIGE DAWSON HOMETOWN Ga dsde n, A L Having dined at The Fairhope Inn on a trip to Fairhope with a dear college friend years ago, its new owner, Paige Dawson, says she instantly fell in love with not just the Inn, but the city itself, ultimately leading her to move to the Bay Area. “I was so anxious to get involved with this amazing community, and in the fall of 2018, I learned the owner was interested in selling the Inn,” Paige shares. “It was a huge leap of faith, but having worked for my father’s construction company most of my life and having led a career of my own in property development, I was intrigued,” she recalls. “I bought the Inn in February of 2019 and by July began extensive renovations, reopening in October of last year,” she says. Unfortunately, after being open for only a few months, The Fairhope Inn was forced to close due to COVID-19. Today, they have to limit the number of people they can seat to accommodate social distancing but are extremely fortunate to have several dining areas as well as a courtyard to accommodate their guests. “Hopefully, the pandemic will pass, and The Fairhope Inn can return to the role it has had in this community for generations as a place to gather and celebrate,” Paige says. Philanthropically, Paige serves on the Board of the Eastern Shore Art Center and is a member of Impact 100. She is also the proud mother of three children (Olivia, Dawson, and Victoria), and cites her own parents as her role models. “My mom is the sweetest woman and is so kind to everyone,” Paige shares. “My dad was so strong, and I always felt that no matter what happened in life, he would make everything okay.” Paige adds she loves spending time with her friends, as many of her University of Alabama sorority sisters played significant roles in her decision to move and buy the Inn. They even led the design portion of the renovation for Paige. “Without them, life would be empty,” she says. “Laughter is good for the soul!”

KRISTIN PHILLIPS HOMETOWN Sug a r La nd, TX A faithful, friendly, and fiery redhead, Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Advisor Kristin Phillips says she returned to the business in 2017 after a sabbatical raising her three daughters: Kaleigh (18), Peyton (16), and Jessie (14). Having first started on the bond-trading desk at PaineWebber/UBS in Hoboken, NJ in 1996, Kristin later transferred to Atlanta before making her way down to the Bay Area — a place she’s called “home” for the past 18 years. The biggest lesson she’s learned during her career? “Always do the right thing, stand up for what is right, and always treat others as you want to be treated,” she says. “Just love people. All people.” Kristin says her three daughters mean the world to her, and seeing them happy and successful is her hope for the future. She and her brood are big on community service, serving as volunteers for the National Charity League-Eastern Shore Chapter (a mother-daughter service organization that serves numerous local charities in the Bay Area). In addition, Kristin serves on the Board of The Lighthouse of Baldwin County, which provides shelter and necessities for women (and their children) who have been victims of domestic violence — a cause which is extremely important to her. In her free time, Kristin loves cozying up on the couch with her girls watching reruns of “The Office,” “Modern Family,” and “King of Queens,” and they always finish the night with a cup of Blue Bell Ice Cream or fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies in bed. They also enjoy spending time at the beach, and listening to live music. Citing her own mother as her role model in life, Kristin knows just how crucial time spent can be. “In addition to everything she’s ever taught me in life, she is currently taking care of my stepdad who has Alzheimer’s,” Kristin shares. “I don’t know how she does it every day. Her strength, energy, and love for him amazes me. Plus, she’s gorgeous!” It was also her mother who gave Kristin the best piece of advice: “Push through the pain.” CAR-0720-00220

HAGAN BOOTHE ANDERSON HOMETOWN Fa i rh o pe, A L A fourth generation Fairhope native, Hagan Anderson is the proud co-owner of Objects, a gift shop originally purchased by her parents in 1993 when she was just 13. “I worked throughout my teenage years whenever I was needed and came on board full-time after graduating to help expand and grow Objects into the business it is today,” she shares, noting the shop now boasts two locations: the original in Fairhope, and a second in Daphne. “I love catching a glimpse of pure joy on a customer’s face when they find that perfect ‘happy’ for themselves or a gift for someone else,” she says. Hagan is the mother of two daughters, Cooper (14), and Campbell (11), and says that raising her girls in her childhood hometown is hands-down her favorite part of Bay Area life. She also serves in the youth ministry at First Baptist Church of Fairhope and sits on the Family and Consumer Science Advisory Board for Fairhope Middle and Fairhope High School. “Both of these outlets give me the opportunity to work with teens, which is a passion of mine,” Hagan shares. She’s even a member of the Fairhope High School Athletic Hall of Fame! “From the age of 10 through college, I played sports,” Hagan says, noting she “can count on one hand” the number of games her parents missed. “I didn’t realize until I had kids of my own the amount of time they spent and the sacrifices they made for me and my siblings,” Hagan says. “They were (and still are) my biggest cheerleaders.” Ultimately, Hagan says character is built day by day, choice by choice. “We have to make wise, prayerful choices because every action, big or small, affects one’s character,” she says. “You have to lead by example.”

HANNAH S. BARBER HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L A lifelong Mobile native, Hannah Barber is as determined and passionate as she is outgoing, having spent nine years in the healthcare field and currently serving as the chief operating officer of Optimal Management Solutions (a management service organization that services Southern Eye Group).“I’ve learned to always be grateful and humble,” Hannah says of the lessons her career path has taught her, citing the joy it brings her to lead an amazing workforce to execute the mission of her organization, which is improving lives by saving sight. “My goal professionally is to continue to expand my knowledge base in the healthcare sector to improve patient access and the quality of care to our community,” she says, noting that philanthropically she also serves as Board President to the Advanced Retinal Therapeutic Institute. To Hannah, it’s a person’s glowing self-confidence and self-belief that makes them truly beautiful. The best piece of advice she’s received? “Attitude is everything, as people are drawn to and motivated by people who are positive, even in the most extreme conditions,” she says. It’s that exact attitude that drew her to her husband, John Barber, whom she acknowledges as her role model based on his determination, commitment, and dedication to serving our community as the Spanish Fort Police Chief — especially in the face of today’s adversity. Together with her stepson Hunter Barber (20), the family enjoys traveling and boating in Orange Beach, as well as frequenting Pirates Cove and Sunset Pointe at Fly Creek. Her personal mantra? “‘Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle.’ It reminds me not to give up or give in through the hard times, but to instead push through them in order to grow personally and professionally.”

HANSEN ROBERTS HOMETOWN Fa i rh o pe, A L As Human Resources Manager at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Hansen Roberts has the privilege of providing an amazing place to work for more than 600 individuals in the Bay Area. Having worked in the hotel industry for the past six years, Hansen first got his start as the Area HR Generalist for The Battle House and Riverview Hotels in Downtown Mobile before transferring to his current position at The Grand. Hansen believes what makes someone truly beautiful on the inside is someone who is caring and selfless, which is why Hansen is involved with various community outreach programs such as Coastal CleanUp, fundraising for FEEF, and collecting canned goods for Prodisee Pantry in his free time. Hansen says his grandfather, David Rogers (affectionately known as “Pop”), has had the most influence on his life. “He was the most patient man I have ever known, an avid outdoorsman, and the most genuine person you could have ever met,” he recalls. And it was Pop who gave Hansen the best life advice. “Where most people would ask, ‘What did you learn today?’ my grandfather would ask me, ‘What did you fail at today?’ This taught me that you learn more from your failures than your successes in life and one should never be afraid of failing.” Married to wife Sara Roberts, Hansen says the greatest adventure he’s been on is being father to two twin daughters, Anne David and Hayes Roberts. “There’s nothing more important in life than your family, and I cherish every minute with them,” he says. Hansen also loves a good DIY project around the house and being down at the beach with his family, where you can often find him at Pirate’s Cove, the FloraBama Yacht Club, and Sunset Grill. “This trifecta is known as ‘the hat trick’ among my family and close friends: a burger and Bushwacker at PCove; catching some live music and a couple of cold beers at FB Yacht Club; and then a short cruise over to Sunset Grill for dinner,” he says. And if he didn’t have to work, Hansen says you wouldn’t be able to take him off of a boat. “I just love being out on the water,” he says. “There is simply nothing better than a sunset over Mobile Bay.”

FUN FACT: “My wife and I bought our first house on the HGTV show ‘House Hunters,’ filmed right here in Midtown.” DREAM TRAVEL DESTINATION: “A month-long trip across Europe.”

B’BETH WELDON HOMETOWN Fa i rh o pe, A L Resilient and adventurous, Bay Area artist B’Beth Weldon sees the world through vibrant colors. Growing up with an artistic mother, B’Beth began creating at the mere age of 5. “I learned a lot from her growing up, and have painted the majority of my life,” she says. “It came to me as a career more recently. I’ve been painting professionally for 15 years now.” B’Beth loves playing with color and recreating beautiful moments in her paintings, most recently working tirelessly on pieces for the new art show at Sophiella Gallery. “I love to travel and hope to continue holding my ‘Gifted Masterpieces’ painting workshops internationally,” she shares. B’Beth says her biggest role models in life have been her parents and grandmother. “They all loved adventures, had a wonderful joie de vivre, great sense of humor, and each gave back to their community.” They also instilled some of her deepest core values. “They raised me to have a strong faith, be independent, confident, and not afraid to live my dreams, and I continue to live my dreams daily,” she says. Just like her parents and grandmother, B’Beth gives back to her community by being involved with the MCI Kilborn Clinic and The Exceptional Foundation, and holds her “Gifted Masterpieces” painting workshops in the U.S. and abroad. Proud mother to Megan McGehee (who currently lives in Greece), B’Beth loves hitting up local spots such as Sage, Locals, Fairhope Inn, Camellia Café, and Dragonfly for a quick bite to eat and browsing the shops in downtown Fairhope. She also enjoys sailing, fishing, riding horses, and spending time with her family and friends. She lives by the motto: “For those to whom much has been given, much shall be expected.”

STEPHANIE BEEDY HOMETOWN Gre e nville, MS Creative, compassionate, and hardworking, Stephanie Beedy (owner of Stephanie’s Downtown, a women’s clothing boutique in Fairhope) loves finding beautiful and unique items to present to her customers and helping them to feel good about themselves. Having spent 30 years in the retail business, she’s constantly thinking ahead and evolving as a small business owner. “I always want to offer my customers something fresh and new,” she says, citing her mother as her inspiration and greatest role model. “She came to this country when she was only 18,” Stephanie shares. “She did not even speak the language. But she worked hard and learned everything she could and built a life for herself and her children that she could be proud of. She is the embodiment of determination.” Having spent 47 of her 49 years on this Earth in the Bay Area, she and her husband, Judson Beedy, have established roots in the community and grown a family tree of their own. “I have been married for 25 years to my husband and best friend,” she says. The pair share two children: Hill (21), who is a senior at Troy University, and Sophia (13), who attends Spanish Fort Middle School. “At this point in my life I am spending any and all of my spare time with my husband and my children,” Stephanie says. “They disappear into adults before you know it and I don’t want to miss a thing.” And with everything going on as of late, Stephanie’s greatest hope is that her children will see much brighter times to come. “I hope that my children inherit a better world,” she says, “…a world filled with compassion and acceptance for all people of all abilities. We are all God’s perfect children.” Her best advice? “Don’t quit. When you fail (and we all do), get back up and try again.”

ALLYN CAMERON HOMETOWN Ha tti e sb u rg, MS Compassionate, laid back, and extremely creative, Allyn Cameron (an interior designer with Cindy Meador Interiors) has an eye for transforming any room into a chic, luxurious oasis. Having first gotten her start selling furniture and fabrics 20 years ago, Allyn fell in love with creating beautiful spaces and hasn’t looked back since. Though she loves picking out fabric, furniture pieces, and adding finishing touches to rooms, Allyn says her favorite part of her job is meeting and cultivating friendships with her clients. Family has always played a large role in Allyn’s life, as she was named after both of her grandmothers, Alice and Carolyn. “I was the first granddaughter, so to honor both grandmothers my parents took the ‘Al’ from Alice and the ‘lyn’ from Carolyn to create Allyn,” she shares. Asked who she deems her role model in life, Allyn responds, “My father. He is one of the most driven and professional people I know.” Married to husband Murray and mother to their son, Fisher (8), Allyn loves spending time with her family boating around the Bay, exploring local waterways, or taking a quick trip to New Orleans for a little getaway. “It’s difficult to become bored while living in such a vibrant area,” she says. Allyn believes possessing compassion and having a giving heart makes someone truly beautiful on the inside, which is why she tries to give back to her community whenever possible. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Allyn, her mother, and her sister felt drawn to do something, so with the help of her son and his cousins, they began dying fabric and turning it into masks. “It was the perfect way to involve the children and give back to our beloved community,” she shares. “We asked for donations as payment and donated the funds to our church.” Allyn truly loves what she does and says even if given the opportunity to do something else, she would still choose to help people decorate their homes, and hopes to continue to create and grow more relationships with her clients in the future.

MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT: “When I was 19, I worked in a boutique in downtown Fairhope. I was ringing up a sale and told the customer he looked like Marty Stuart, the country singer. COURTNEY RENAE ELEANOR HILLEY HOMETOWN Sa tsu m a, A L Having spent short stints of her life in in Florida and Mississippi, Courtney Hilley says that the Bay Area has always been home base for her, which is why she and husband Christian moved back to Mobile in 2016. The pair now own and operate Midtown’s Chaleur Coffee, a coffee roastery and tasting room on Dauphin Street. “I love continuing to learn more about the science of coffee and how we can play an important part in providing coffee farmers and their families with healthy lives by advocating for them, as well as being able to partner with other coffee shops and help them strengthen their personal brands and programs,” she shares. A creative director, editor, and designer by nature, Courtney also has a small namesake line of linen clothes in the works that she’ll be releasing this summer — an endeavor she’s thrilled to add to her repertoire. Philanthropically, Courtney and her husband have partnered their business with the Children’s Advocacy Center annually since 2017, supporting Light of the Village in Prichard and Victory Health Clinic as well. The pair also attend and lead worship for Harbor Community Church in Downtown Mobile, which has an active ministry for the homeless, adoption, foster care, and racial reconciliation. “I’ve been told that something I repeat very often is, ‘Just do what you’re supposed to do,’” she says. “I feel like most problems come from someone simply not doing what they were supposed to do or doing what they weren’t supposed to do.”

KELSEY PHILLIPS HOMETOWN Fa i rh o pe, A L The Manager and Senior Buyer for Fairhope’s CK Collection, Kelsey Phillips says dressing women and helping them find their confidence is one of her greatest joys. “I love the relationships I have built with my clients over the years,” she shares. “Some of them have become like family.” Clearly a loving soul, Kelsey says that without one another, we have nothing. “We need to be kind to one another because you never know what someone is going through,” she says. “A smile to a stranger could mean the world. Treat others how you expect to be treated.” As beautiful inside as she is out, Kelsey says she feels beauty radiates in a variety of ways. “A beautiful person is resilient, caring, honest, and humble,” she says. “They care for others more than they care for themselves.” A lifelong Bay Area resident, Kelsey says there are so many things to love about Lower Alabama living. “Everyone in the Bay Area is always smiling and so happy,” Kelsey says. “It is like a little oasis. It sometimes seems unreal, like a scene from a movie. No matter where you turn you are sure to see someone who is happy to help or someone who cares for everyone in the community. I think that is what makes our area truly special. I feel blessed to have been raised here.” As for her biggest role model? “Without a doubt, it’s my dad,” she shares. “He is great in every sense of the word. NICOLE SHIPMAN HOMETOWN Atla n ta , G A Passionate about healthy living, Nicole Shipman first began her wellness journey in 2008 when she started teaching fitness classes at local gyms, eventually leading her to a certification in personal training. During this time, she became interested in healthy eating and better lifestyle choices but saw a void in the healthy restaurant industry in the Bay Area. Flash forward to 2017, and Fresh Healthy Café in Spanish Fort was born. Offering a wide variety of healthy (and delicious) menu items, Nicole has been able to spread awareness about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, and after such a positive reception in Spanish Fort, Nicole hopes to expand her business to Fairhope and Mobile in the near future. Nicole looks to role model and “spirit animal” Dolly Parton as an example, having risen from humble roots to absolute stardom without forgetting where she came from. “She is so humble and spunky,” Nicole says. “Plus, we share a passion for singing!” In fact, Nicole is professionally trained as an opera singer, and even worked in Atlanta as a professional actress and singer before her restaurant venture. Single mother to Madeline (16), Mackenzie (13), and John Parker (7), Nicole loves going to concerts, going out to dinner, and relaxing at the beach with her children in her downtime. She is also involved with her church, City Hope, and currently supports a child in the Dominican Republic through Compassion International. Nicole shares she tries daily to live by the saying, “Keep your trust in the Lord,” but admits it isn’t always easy. Thankfully, her best friend Deanna Kitchens and her family are always there to help her through difficult times. Nicole also loves traveling and says the most exciting adventure she’s ever been on was when she was 18 years old and flew to Paris by herself as an exchange student. “I lived in the beautiful home of a family that lived off the Seine River. I spent my entire summer there,” she says. She hopes to go back in the future to complete a tour of Europe, taking cooking classes in Paris and Tuscany.

MANDI ELLIOTT CAMERON HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L This girl knows how to party! Co-owner of Premiere Party Bus Mandi Cameron loves bringing the fun to her clients’ biggest life events. “Whether it’s their bachelor or bachelorette party, wedding day, surprise 50th birthday party, or prom, the majority of people we work with are so excited to book their event and see us pull up,” she says. Mandi started out in the production and event coordinating business in Los Angeles after a job interview as a 2nd assistant to a Hollywood producer. What she didn’t know was that her “interview” would turn into a reality show debut. “On my second interview, people were walking out of their interviews crying, swearing, and slamming the door,” she recalls. “My mom told me to leave, but the curiosity was killing me. I ended up getting the job and had a camera crew follow me for two weeks. I got (fake) fired for not balancing the pH correctly in his pool,” she says. “The following week he called me, told me I didn’t do a half-bad job, and asked if I wanted to work with him on a new show he had developed. I ended up working with him on and off over the next decade!” After her (very brief) stint in the reality TV realm, Mandi eventually made her way back to the Bay Area and has been in the party bus industry for the last few years, working as an Inferno Hot Pilates instructor at Sterling Hot Yoga for fun in her free time. Mandi married her husband Josh Cameron (whom she met in Hollywood at a sports bar where she worked), and says he is her biggest role model. “He has a certain way with words — he keeps it simple and real,” she says. “He’s a man of his word, is very helpful, and has a caring heart. He makes me a better person every day.” The couple has two beautiful daughters, Elle (6), and Emmy (4), with a third due in October. Mandi’s most exciting adventure? That time she gave birth to her daughter Emmy in a car! “At 7:30 a.m. on Father’s Day, I started having contractions,” she recalls. “By the time we got our oldest off to her grandmother’s and loaded up, it was painfully obvious we were too late. Emmy made her grand entrance right on I-10 — her birth certificate even lists Exit 10 as her birth address!” FUN FACT: “I’ve met more than 300 celebrities and spent one Easter Sunday sitting with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes at the House of Blues on Sunset.” CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT: “Coffee, my daily workout, Spotify, and dry shampoo.”

MARITZA SALIBI HOMETOWN Cu e n c a , Ecuad or It’s no secret that Sage Lebanese Cuisine in Downtown Fairhope has some of the best food in town, and it’s all thanks to owner Maritza Salibi, who paired her culinary skills with those of her husband, Nader, to open the beloved restaurant. Putting her business, pastry chef, and culinary arts background to good use, Maritza and her husband cook up traditional homemade Lebanese recipes with a side of love and hospitality on the daily. “I love sharing our dishes with our guests, and enjoy exchanging life experiences with our regulars who feel more like family,” Maritza shares. “We are so blessed to be a part of this amazing community that is so supportive in every way imaginable. We are so thankful for the continuous support from our amazing customers.” Maritza says her parents serve as her role models in life, as they started from nothing as a young married couple and worked their way up, building a successful life together along the way. In fact, it was Maritza’s father who taught her the true importance of tenacity and work ethic. “He always told me, ‘Nothing is easy in life. A dream doesn’t become reality through magic; if you want something you need to work hard with a lot of determination.’” And work hard she has. Family means everything to Maritza, and she attributes the woman she is today to her husband’s unyielding support. “My husband is my rock,” she says. “He pushes me to do better and motivates me every time.” The two have three children: a son, Mateo (19), and daughters Sophia (13) and Dahlia (9). Maritza hopes to one day travel to Spain to connect with her family’s roots and embark on a food tour around the country, learning and sharing experiences through shared dishes.

GRIFFIN HOOD HOMETOWN Ca l e ra , A L Griffin Hood has quite the flair for dramatics — a perfect fit, considering his role as the Theatre/Film/IB teacher at Daphne High School. Starting out in the film industry, Griffin decided to combine his love for acting with his desire to make an impression on the lives of others. “I wanted to work somewhere that could give me the opportunity to make an impact on someone’s life while still keeping my toes in the acting world,” he says. And though he’s only been teaching for two years, Griffin has already made significant strides in doing just that. “I love witnessing a student break through or succeed in something they may have been struggling in,” he says. Griffin says his first love will always be film, which is why he has a goal to build a film department at Daphne High School in the near future. “I believe working in film is a viable job; films take hundreds, or even thousands of people to create,” he explains. “I want students to know these are jobs that are attainable and that working on a film set isn’t an unrealistic goal.” Alongside wife Stephanie, the couple share two sons: Mayson (14), and Lincoln (7). Griffin loves the endless amounts of amazing food the Bay Area has to offer, his favorite restaurant being The Wacky Shrimp in Daphne or Boudreaux’s Cajun Grill. “I also really love the festivals that come through town, like the Jubilee Arts and Crafts Festival,” he shares. “Most of the art in our house has been purchased from these events.” In his free time Griffin loves playing video games, watching baseball, and, of course, acting and editing films. In fact, he once wrote and produced a film called “The Baytown Outlaws” starring Billy Bob Thorton. Actor Tom Hanks serves as Griffin’s biggest role model in life, as he feels he is a truly genuine person, not only in his work, but in his family life as well. But more recently (and closer to home), Griffin says Daphne High School Principal Fletcher Comer has deeply inspired him. “I’ve never seen anyone care for and love students the way he does,” Griffin says. “He genuinely wants them to succeed, and in doing so, wants the best for Daphne High School.”

GUILTY PLEASURE: “Mr. Goodbar. I could probably eat one the size of a football field.” PERSONAL MANTRA: “Work hard and stay humble.”

MELISSA REYNOLDS HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L Owner/Buyer for RISE, Mobile’s newest women’s contemporary lifestyle store, Melissa (Mel) Reynolds first launched her business one year ago as an online store and pop-up shop. But after an overwhelmingly positive reception from the fashion community, Mel decided to open her very first brick and mortar location in Springhill Village Shopping Center. “Moving back home and launching my own store has always been a dream of mine,” Mel says. “I’m blessed to have the experience to take on this new chapter.” With close to 20 years of experience in the industry, Mel has learned a lot, but says her biggest lesson is that a personal relationship is worth more than a quick sale any day. This is exactly why Mel puts so much emphasis on her relationships with each customer who walks in the door, making them feel both beautiful and special. “I absolutely love styling and connecting with the beautiful ladies of Mobile,” she says. Though she loves a fabulous outfit, Mel believes what makes someone truly beautiful is the fact that everyone has their own unique spirit inside that doesn’t always get to come out. Thankfully, Mel has the unique privilege of helping women release this inner spirit by helping them to feel their most beautiful and confident on the outside. “It is beautiful the way a well-curated look can bring that spirit out and allow it to thrive,” says Mel. Married to her favorite Texan, Tony, Mel is the proud fur-mama to her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Vivienne. She also loves spending her free time with her family, especially her two nephews, Bruddy and Benjamin, who she says were two of the main reasons for moving back home. If she didn’t have to work, Mel says she would probably still be shopping. “It must be in my blood,” she jokes.

The most rewarding thing is seeing their reaction of the finished product.” Savannah owes her start in floral design to owner Tim Burt, a regular at the restaurant Savannah used to work for. “I came into the shop one day and he said, ‘You know Savannah, you should fill out an application,’ and the rest is history!” Savannah feels to be truly beautiful on the inside one has to be confident, caring, and humble — a bar set high by her grandmother, DeeDee. “She is the most selfless woman I have ever known,” Savannah says. “She puts others before herself no matter what. She and I have always had a bond like no other, and I have looked up to her for as long as I can remember. She radiates happiness and joy. I hope to be half the woman she is one day. She is the perfect example of inner and outer beauty,” Savannah shares. Married on November 23, 2019, Savannah enjoys taking the boat out for a ride with her husband, attending Auburn football games in the fall, and exploring downtown Mobile. Some of her favorite local spots are POST, Chuck’s Fish, and The Ruby Slipper Cafe. Moving forward, she hopes to start a family of her own, become a successful businesswoman, and, most of all, be happy.

MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT: “One middle school Friday night me and some girlfriends went to the bowling alley and a popular song called ‘Pop, Lock and Drop It’ came on and there was a dance that you did during the chorus. Well, I decided to pop... lock... and when I dropped it, I ripped my pants. Yep, that happened.” IF SHE DIDN’T HAVE TO WORK: “I would be living it up at the beach every day!”

DEBBIE RICHARDS HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L No stranger to the camera, Debbie Richards began modeling in high school and college before marrying husband David and starting a family. But in 1985 modeling called her name again, and she began doing print work for Raphael’s and a few others, eventually leading her to a job as a retail specialist for L’Oréal USA and as a wardrobe consultant for Shop Your Closet. Her present goal? To help women in their 50s and beyond feel beautiful no matter their age. “Women are fabulous at every age,” she says. “It is a gift to grow older!” But despite her lengthy resume, Debbie says her favorite job titles remain “Mom” and “Grandmother (Mia)” to her five children and 14 grandchildren. Debbie believes possessing joy in your heart and spreading that joy to others makes someone beautiful on the inside, which is why she dedicates her time as a volunteer at Rapahope Children’s Retreat Foundation, Ronald McDonald House, and Happy Flowers, where she repurposes wedding flowers and takes them to nursing homes. She loves everything about living in Mobile, and though a self-proclaimed “homebody,” enjoys walking around LoDa ArtWalk, dining at Roosters, and catching a film at the Crescent Theater from time to time. Of course, there’s nothing quite like wine with friends and cousin sleepovers, but Debbie’s true love is thrift shopping. “I can’t live without it; it’s my therapy,” she jokes.

FUN FACT: “In 1993, at age 40 I won a Dove Classic Model discovery contest. I received cash, a trip to New York, and had my picture in “Ladies’ Home Journal magazine.” FAVORITE QUOTE: “Beauty isn’t about looking young , but looking good.”

ANNA-LISA HUSKEY HOMETOWN Atm o re , A L Bliss Bridal Manager Anna-Lisa Huskey was destined for a nuptial-based career, having grown up around her grandmother’s bridal boutique as a child. After graduating from The University of Alabama, she was offered a position at a bridal salon where she fell in love with the bridal industry, and the rest is history. “I planned my whole wedding while working in the industry, which had pros and cons,” Anna-Lisa jokes. Once wed, she and her husband decided to move closer to family, during which time she met Katie Ward, owner of Bliss Bridal. “We clicked like we had known each other for years,” Anna-Lisa gushes. “She offered me a position and I have been here ever since.” With a career in helping others look and feel stunning, Anna-Lisa knows her fair share about beauty, but says it’s a kind, giving heart that radiates most brilliantly. Thanks to business regulations put in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the shop was closed to customers for roughly six weeks before being allowed to reopen May 1. “We have been so busy,” she shares. “COVID-19 may have halted the world, but not the bridal realm!” Anna-Lisa says her husband of four years, Brian Huskey, and their 2-year-old daughter, Anna-Jane, have her heart, adding that parenthood stands alone as the most exciting adventure of her life thus far. “So much goes in to raising a little human,” she jests. “Being a mom is definitely the hardest and most rewarding job I’ve ever had.” Describing herself as tender-hearted, humble-minded, and hardworking, AnnaLisa says her personal mantra is, “‘The knowledge and the power to succeed resides in me.’ I love this quote because you have to believe in yourself before anyone else will.” Taking notes from her time in the industry, AnnaLisa shares that “Failure is never fatal. I believe failure molds you to learn and become an even better person.”

PERSONAL ROLE MODEL: “My mother! She raised four kids with grace and compassion and then pursued her dream of becoming a flight attendant. She gets to travel and see so many cool places while working.” WHAT SHE LIKES TO DO FOR FUN: “Beach days are my favorite! Vitamin Sea is good for the soul.” Hair Jason Chambers, Headdress Salon, 251.689.7427 / Makeup Jessica Price, Primp Lash & Beauty, 251.285.3000 Pants, $151, Heels, $120; CK Collection, 251.990.9001. 62 ACCESS Magazine / July-August 2020

LASHOUNDRA

HOLMES YOUNG HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L A Fashion Influencer and Co-owner of ShoppeInsideOut, LaShoundra Young is as gorgeous and fun as she is compassionate and detail oriented. “I got my start eight years ago with friends and family encouraging me to showcase my fashion on the Internet,” she shares, adding that a pandemic couldn’t slow her roll. “I went from taking pictures outside to creating content from the inside of my home,” she shares. Regardless of platform, LaShoundra just loves introducing others to new styles. “My hope is to teach women (and men) that style starts with the soul… how we feel on the inside reflects what’s on the outside,” she says. An influencer in more than one capacity, LaShoundra also serves as Support Coordinator for Volunteers of America, a ministry of service founded in 1896 that supports and empowers America’s most vulnerable groups, including veterans, at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions. She’s also created multiple youth mentoring groups focused on helping susceptible youth and promoting self-care, including Promisingly Beautiful (an organization that provides prom dresses and jewelry to high school students in need), Darling Divas (a group that empowers and enriches teenage girls to help them become successful women), and Style Is: Teen Edition (a teen conference focused on teaching young ladies about the importance of self-esteem and self-worth). “The goal is to teach young girls the importance of self-love and having an enthusiasm for learning,” LaShoundra shares. “These efforts exemplify the passion I have for young women.” Acknowledging the import and value of positive role models, the wife of DeKendell Young and mother of Kaden Young (9) says her grandmother, Charlie Bell, stands out as her greatest inspiration. “Every obstacle she encountered was met with prayer and her love for Christ,” LaShoundra says. As for true beauty, LaShoundra states that having compassion and the ability to empathize with others’ situations is key. “Just treat others well,” she says.

FUN FACT: “I have a twin sister!” BIGGEST LESSON LEARNED: “I’m not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’m somebody’s SWEET TEA!”

WHITNEY CHRISTOPHER HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L The Director of Accounts for full-service boutique advertising agency Hummingbird Ideas, Whitney Christopher loves the constant collaboration and subsequent learning environment produced between her clients and team on the daily. “I love interacting with clients and vendors from different backgrounds and industries, as everyone brings something new to the table,” Whitney shares. With a degree in journalism and advertising and having worked in the industry for 10 years, Whitney says she got her start working in event coordination, nonprofit fundraising, and account management roles before landing her first agency job in 2010. “I once worked as an event coordinator for the BMW Ultimate Drive benefiting Susan G. Komen that took me to 130 cities across the United States in 11 months,” she adds. “No better way to see the whole country than to drive across it!” Together with her husband of 12 years, Neil Christopher, Whitney has two children: a son, Landry (8), and a daughter, Eliza (5), and says she and her family all enjoy Bay Area living thanks to one major factor: access to water. “The Bay, river, beach, and Gulf Coast in general are my happy places,” she says. “Give me a dock and painted sunset any day over a city skyline.” A self-proclaimed “foodie,” Whitney says she loves the boom of restaurants in Midtown and Downtown Mobile, citing Chuck’s Fish, Noja, Noble South, and Callaghan’s as some of her favorites. In her downtime, Whitney enjoys cooking, especially after a stressful day. “Something about the alone time and peace and quiet of the kitchen with some loud music in the background is oddly satisfying,” she shares.

FUN FACT: “I met my husband in 4th grade and developed a huge crush on him while he hardly noticed me until after college. When we were engaged, my mom found my elementary school diary from the 90s which had ‘I love Neil Christopher’ handwritten on the inside.” DEFINES INNER BEAUTY AS: “Character.”

EXCELLENCE IN EXCELLENCE IN EVERYTHING WEDO DO EVERYTHING WE

GEORGIA ROUSSOS BROWN HOMETOWN Wya ndotte, MI The beloved caterer and owner of Georgia Roussos Catering, Georgia Roussos Brown needs no introduction. Coming from a family who has been in the Bay Area restaurant business for more than 55 years, it was no surprise Georgia developed a love for delicious cuisine. After her family closed their restaurant in 2009, Georgia’s husband urged her to use her talents and go into the catering business. Thankfully, she took the leap and has been catering some of the best Bay Area weddings, events, and soirées for the last 10 years. A self-proclaimed “people person,” Georgia says the best part about her job is meeting her customers’ expectations and shares that the biggest lesson she’s learned throughout her career is, “Customer satisfaction = success.” A first-generation American, Georgia jokes that the beloved movie “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” is basically a documentary of her life. “Many of the things in the movie my friends and I have experienced daily,” she laughs. In fact, her father, who originally immigrated from Greece when he was 12 and passed away in 2000, still serves as Georgia’s role model alongside her mother, as together they built a legacy and taught her the importance of God, family, and work. Georgia adores her husband, who she says she can’t imagine her life without, and is the proud mother of Slater Donald Moses Page (36), and Polixeni “Nia” Page (33), and grandmother of Tyler Aldrich Page.

MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT: “When I told a customer who I hadn’t seen in a long time how happy I was that she was pregnant, and she politely told me she was not. Oh, I about died!” FAVORITE TV SHOWS: “‘Cheers’ and ‘Blue Bloods.’”

LAUNDUKE & FELISHA BAGSBY HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L Launduke and Felisha Bagsby are lifelong Bay Area residents with deep roots in the Mobile community, with Launduke serving as the Deputy Sheriff of the Detective/Intelligence Division for the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office, where he’s been for the last 16 of his 21 years in law enforcement. Equally steeped in Bay Area living, Felisha owns Legacy Healthcare, providing private, inclusive care to geriatric, plastic surgery recovery, and general surgery clients. Together, the couple share four children, Keagan (23), Deandre (23), Curtis (20), and Kalani (17), and one granddaughter, A’Nyle (2). Family is everything to Launduke, who cites his mother, father, and paternal grandfather as his greatest role models. “They instilled a sense of pride, morality, honor, and loyalty inside me that I have tried to convey to my wife and children,” he shares, adding that he believes it’s a person’s willingness to give, engage, and love others that makes them truly beautiful. Felisha adds, “I’m obsessed with anyone that is crazy enough to unapologetically live their best life and pursue their dreams. So many people are afraid to follow their dreams that they end up living in a nightmare of regrets.” Philanthropically, Launduke prides himself on his ability to help bridge the gap and remove the barriers that exist between law enforcement and the communities they serve. “I also provide assistance as a mentor to several different nonprofit organizations,” he shares, citing his love for interacting with and educating others as his main motivator. Felisha serves as founder of Young Ladies of Tomorrow (YLOT), which prior to the Alabama StayAt-Home Order was in the throes of preparing for a “Reach One, Teach One” seminar for women ages 16 to 40. “We should all work to listen more, speak less, and to retain what’s being said,” she says. “We don’t have to look alike or have the same cultural background to be able to relate as human beings.”

LAUNDUKE’S HOPES FOR THE FUTURE: “To coexist in a world where everyone’s treated equally, to provide generational wealth and prosperity to my family, and to sustain a healthy lifestyle.” FELISHA’S PERSONAL MANTRA: “‘Ninety-nine percent of people are good.’ This was told to me almost daily, which made me view life differently at just the right time.” Hair Jason Chambers, Headdress Salon, 251.689.7427 / Makeup Suzy Laney, smbeique@gmail.com Felisha Skirt, $206; CK Collection, 251.990.9001. MATT LEMOND HOMETOWN Ne w Orl ea ns, LA What doesn’t Matt LeMond do? As owner and manager of O’Daly’s Irish Pub, POST Crafted Cocktails & Wine Bar, and Cedar Street Social Club, it would appear that Matt has his hands full, but the multifaceted business owner insists that staying busy makes him the happiest. “I love working,” he says. “Sometimes I think I enjoy it too much at times. But I’m a busybody — even on days when I don’t have a lot going on, I stay pretty busy.” In Matt’s line of work, he is lucky to cross paths with some amazing people — something he says he’s truly grateful for. “It’ a wonderful feeling to see people choose to spend their most valuable gift — time — at my business,” he says. “In turn, it’s our job to show them our appreciation by offering the best experience.” With 15 successful years in the business, Matt says he’s learned a great deal, but his biggest takeaway has always been to have patience. “I’m still learning this,” he admits. “I struggled initially with the fact that people learn and achieve things in different ways and it’s allowed me to appreciate them more and have patience knowing there are more avenues to certain tasks.” Having been in the Bay Area for 17 years, Matt loves the beaches, people, and the close proximity to his hometown, and the influences of New Orleans’ cuisine throughout. Married to wife Samantha for five years, the two love a good Euchre tournament with their neighbors and hanging out with their sweet pup, Clover. Matt is also extremely dedicated to his work with Movember — a men’s health month geared towards suicide prevention and testicular and prostate cancer. “As a local team we raised over $150,000 for the cause in the last few years and placed in the Top 10 in the country last year having raised $50,000,” Matt says. Matt says his Grammy serves as his personal role model in life, sharing, “She never really had a lot of money, but she’s the richest person I’ve ever known. She’s influenced more people than one could ever imagine, and she’s made family her greatest gift of wealth. That’s really special to me.” Matt lives by the motto: “All Good Days,” saying he tries to wake up and go to bed being thankful for each day. “Not every day has to be a great day, but it’s up to us if we decide to make them all good days,” he says.

GUILTY PLEASURE: “Cutting the grass. Something about a fresh cut lawn makes me happy. I will cut it days in a row even if it doesn’t need it, but I know it’ll look fresh.” FAVORITE LOCAL SPOTS: “I’m biased, but a cocktail from POST, 504 pizza from O’Daly’s, and an Irish Car Bomb are staples for a great night.”

BETH STOWE FUGARD HOMETOWN Fa i rh o pe, A L A lifelong Bay Area resident, Beth Fugard (co-owner and president of Stowe’s Jewelers) moved from Mobile to Fairhope at age 5, and currently runs the family shop alongside her sister, Peggy Stowe Wiggins. A GIA graduate gemologist, Beth says she enjoys the people she encounters at work and creating the perfect piece of jewelry, uniquely designed just for her customers. “My parents started Stowe’s Jewelers in 1959, and even though I have a degree in special education, I was drawn back to try the family business in 1980,” Beth shares. “We are the second oldest business in Fairhope.” But with all of the restrictions put in place on business owners in light of the pandemic, Beth says she looks forward to a future “with no masks, where we can touch and hold something without fear and be able to hug and greet with a handshake again,” she says. “I miss the personal state of things and the warmth.” Beth says there have been many takeaways from her 64 short years, but the biggest lesson she’s learned has been, “Stay true to yourself and know what you’re good at. Always be honest and tell the truth.” Off the clock, Beth serves on the Board of Directors for the Baldwin Humane Society and chairs the Hound Dog Music Fest. She is also a founding charter member of (and still active in) a local women’s Mardi Gras society. The married mother of three adult children (Darcey Fugard Puckett, John R. Fugard IV, and Thomas James Fugard) and grandmother of five credits her own mother as her personal role model and shares that overall, it’s “a person’s soul and how in tune they are with God, family, and friends” that makes them truly beautiful.

FUN FACT: “I was the first female Marshall in Mardi Gras history and currently lead the parade on a camel. It’s a blast!” BEST ADVICE EVER RECEIVED: “My mom used to say, ‘Remember, pretty is as pretty does.’”

BRENT KEITH HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L As an HVAC Contractor and President of Keith Air Conditioning, Inc., Brent Keith has been keeping the Gulf Coast cool fulltime for the last 16 years, though he started out as a parts runner and installation helper at the age of 16. “I’d love to continue to grow the business on the foundation of quality and customer service my grandfather and father have laid,” Brent says, noting his grandfather first opened the company back in 1964. “My dad always told me, ‘If you’re going to do something, do it right the first time.’ I try to remember that in life and it’s how we try to run our business.” When he’s not working, Brent enjoys spending time on the water with his wife, Jules, and 6-year-old son, Hawkins. “We enjoy going out to eat, fishing, or going to our farm in Dallas County,” Brent shares. “We also love spending time in Downtown Mobile and have several favorite spots, including Callaghan’s in OGD, Post, and Noble South.” Philanthropically, Brent serves as a board member of Mobile Baykeeper (a community environmental advocacy organization) and was a graduate of Leadership Mobile’s class of 2017. “I love being near the water and the culture and history of our Port City,” he shares. When it comes to inner beauty, Brent says it’s how a person treats others that really counts. “Kindness and empathy are two qualities that are very important in my opinion,” Brent says. “If one can care for another despite their faults, forgive, and be understanding of differences, that makes them truly beautiful.” With parents like his, it’s no wonder such qualities top his list. “My parents molded me into the person I am now,” he shares. “I have looked to them for guidance and examples in how to conduct business, how to have integrity, how to be proud of who you are, and how to be a good person.”

FAVORITE TRAVEL DESTINATION: “My wife and I love Barcelona. We had planned on going back and taking our son this spring before COVID-19 came along.” GUILTY PLEASURES: “Video games and Taco Bell.”

MINDI WAITE KELLY HOMETOWN M o b ile , A L A lifelong Mobilian, Mindi Waite Kelly has served as an in-home childcare specialist for the last 11 years. “When I closed my upscale consignment shop, Second Look, I knew I wanted to do something that made an impact on people and something I could make a difference doing, and what better way to do that than working with children each day,” she shares. “My favorite part is getting to watch these precious babies grow into the amazing little people they are and know I had a small part in that.” An avid volunteer, Mindi started The Stone Soup Project in 2011 with a friend, which has grown to provide full home-cooked meals for foster families as a way to say “Thank you” for what they do for the community, as well as provide food to other groups in need in our area. “My husband and I also started Haywood’s Hope in March of this year,” she shares, noting the endeavor is named in honor of her father who passed in October 2019. “It is a project where we deliver hot meals on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings to our homeless citizens throughout Midtown and Downtown Mobile,” she says. “I spend the evenings during the week purchasing items to fill Blessing Bags, assembling them whenever I have a free minute, and then we hand them out each weekend to our homeless citizens, as well as the meals we take,” she shares. “The joy that my husband and I have gotten out of helping our homeless citizens is priceless. I can’t even describe how incredible these people and their stories are. It is truly amazing to be of service to them.”

ONE OF THE BIGGEST TAKEAWAYS FROM HER JOB: “I’ve learned that if you look at the world through a child’s eyes, you’ll see it in a different light.” DEFINES INNER BEAUTY AS: “A heart that sees no bounds. Love wins every time if you open your heart to it and accept it!”

WILLIAM SCOTT JONES HOMETOWN L i nde n , A L Assistant General Manager and Wine Director for The Hope Farm, William (Will) Jones has been in the restaurant business his entire life, following in the footsteps of his restaurant-owning mother. It wasn’t until seven years ago that he decided to merge this experience with the “beverage” side, thus leading to his career with Fairhope’s newest spot, The Hope Farm. Will loves reading and sharing what he’s learned about wine with The Hope Farm’s many guests and says there is always something to be learned about the world of wine. “My favorite part of my job is my ability to share the stories and practices behind the labels of each wine to our guests,” he says. Will looks to both of his parents as his role models, as they both worked extremely hard to achieve all that they have and equipped their children with the necessary tools to succeed in life. “I am so thankful for everything they have done for me,” Will says. Having been in the Bay Area for four years, Will loves both the culture of our area and the beaches, stating some of his favorite pastimes include swimming and reading. “If I didn’t have to work, I would spend all of my time by the water with a book in one hand and a wine glass (or bottle) in the other,” he jokes. Of course, Will’s favorite local spot is none other than The Hope Farm. “It’s where I spend the majority of my time,” he shares. “If I’m not there, you can find me at The Haberdasher.” Will also loves to travel, especially when there’s wine or spirits involved. One of his favorite adventures was a weeklong trip he took last year with other bartenders from across the U.S. “We visited different cities, bars, distilleries, and breweries,” he shares. “It was so nerdy and fun!” At the top of his travel list is the Champagne region in France. “I love a good glass of bubbly,” he concludes.

GUILTY PLEASURES: “Crème Brûlée and dark chocolate, with my wine of course.” FAVORITE QUOTE: “My only regret in life is that I did not drink more wine.” - Ernest Hemingway

I am a night you won’t forget. I’m a little black dress. I’m a new cologne. I’m a pair of spicy red heels, fresh from the box. I’m a night you won’t forget. I’m a new raise, a new year, the girl you can’t get out of your mind. I’m a first date night in months – and tonight, I’m of off the diet. I’m a night with a few old college budding, and things may get a little out of hand. I’m a warm welcome, smiling and greeting. I’m impeccable service, on it and waiting. I’m crisp white linen and silver shining. I’m that small velvet box in the left breast pocket. I’m a night you won’t forget. I’m the cozy corner table, The tucked-away private table, The fresh pear julep prepared beside the table, And I’m a little footsie under the table. I’m from Napa to New Zealand – I’m the cork that you save. I’m indulgent sides gunning for the center of attention. tende I’m that steak I’m perfectly marbled. I’m impossibly tender. from your dream. I’m a night you won’t forget. I’m 500° from the kitchen and 180° from forgettable. I’m that very first bite that does. not. disappoint. I’m a passionate dance of sin and succulence and sizzle. I’m a night you won’t forget. A rela relaxed exhale, a touch of whimsy, a cell phone left in the pocket. A whisper, a bare shoulder, an “I love you.” A moment locked in forever. I’m a night you won’t forget. I’m precisely how our Ruth envisioned. Still. To this day. And I’m not changing with the trends or the wind. Ever. I’m a Ruth’s Chris Steak House. And I’m a night you won’t forget.
