dwards Moving & Rigging has been a member of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce since 2009. The Chamber has been a great way for the company to connect with the community and to work with other businesses to grow the local economy. The Chamber has also been a good tool for recruitment and business development. I have enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. Working closely with the other members, I have formed both professional connections and personal friendships. It was honor to receive the award for Chamber Member of the Year. Both personally and as a company, I look forward to the future with the Chamber, looking for ways to help our community continue to grow.

became active in the Chamber about four years ago due to a position change where I am currently employed with Shelbyville/Shelby County Parks & Recreation. My role, at that time, assumed a lot of marketing and public relation responsibility, some of which I had already been doing, but was now expected to. During my first year, I was asked to help with some marketing ideas for the Chamber Marketing Committee and at that time was regularly attending events. The second year, I was sworn onto the board and just this year, completed my first threeyear term. During this time, I attended many events and help rebrand and refocus the strategies of the Chamber to the Connect.Build.Grow mentality. I have met so many individuals and built stronger relationships with many that I already knew from serving on the Chamber Board. From a professional standpoint, our Membership with the Chamber has helped create an awareness and need for Parks and Recreation within our community. I have been able to keep the board and members up to date with park happen-

ings and information. This has connected us to the community in a way that we never have been before. At Shelbyville/Shelby County Parks & Recreation, we have been able to build partnerships with other Chamber members through event and program sponsorships. We are ultimately working to grow a stronger community not only through what we offer at the park but how we participate in our community as well. Our Chamber Membership gives us an additional sense of belonging to our community. I am excited to serve another term upcoming and represent as Secretary for this upcoming year.

021 was a great year for the Chamber. We are back to having more networking events and our membership has grown! The Chamber is continuing to serve its members Matthew and the Page community by Shelby helping our County Chamber of businesses Commerce connect, President build, and

grow. Some of the ways the Chamber is working towards helping those businesses is by adding value to your membership. From member-to-member discounts, membership discount programs, marketing opportunities and expanding our networking events so our members can connect with each other.

Chamber membership has continued to grow, in part because of events like Ladies Day and the Showcase on Main.

The people in this community and their ability to work together and support each other is what makes Shelby County special. It’s not just our businesses and membership that is growing, but Shelby County as a whole. Shelby County is continuing to grow at an incredible rate and for the chamber it is our responsibility to

help make sure our member’s businesses are ready to handle that growth. The Chamber is going to continue to keep our members connected and informed as things continue to change. I look forward to continuing to serve our members, our community, and the Chamber as President.

2021 Diplomat of the Year There are so many wonderful things I could say about the local Shelby County Chamber! I have worked locally at State Farm in Shelby County for a little over ten years and I always knew the Chamber was beneficial but I never fully understood the full capacity of the perks until I took over my own office in June of 2020. I knew joining the Chamber as a business owner was a must but I had no idea it was going to be such a positive experience. I grew up in Shelby County and I’m now raising my two sons here with my husband so it is nice to be a part of an organization that loves this town as much as I do. It is evident the Chamber genuinely cares about their membership and it’s nice to know they want to see all these amazing businesses be successful. I have truly enjoyed all the networking opportunities and relationship building that has been made possible by the Chamber. Choosing to serve on the Chamber Membership Committee was such

a great decision that has led me to learn more about what the Chamber actually does and how much we benefit our local community. My office, Lacey Stivers State Farm, has gotten recognition through the Chamber and it’s been awesome to take advantage of some of the free marketing features like the free radio spotlight. It didn’t take me long recognize how big of a difference it made for me to not only be a part of the Chamber but to also be actively involved. I love attending the morning mixers, ribbon cuttings and other events and it has been so exciting to meet so many new faces and be introduced to other local business owners in the community. Ashley has been employed with the parks department for 16 years, currently serving as the assistant director. She enjoys providing recreational opportunities for the community as well as building partnerships that benefit all. She also serves as President on the Kentucky Recreation and Park Society board. She feels involvement at the local and state level is important to building a community where people live, work & play!

Entering my sixth year as a member of the Board, I am continually impressed with the way our businesses unite to advance causes vital to economic growth and community development. We are excited about the possibilities in Shelby County and know that we have the resources to make things happen for our community. Representing Shelby County Public Schools on the Chamber of Commerce allows me the chance to share how our students and teachers can join in the efforts to move the community forward while also learning new ways community leaders can contribute in our schools. As the Incoming President for 202122, I hope to serve alongside the current leadership by helping our current businesses become even more competitive in Kentuckiana’s growing economy. Shelby County’s strength is its people. The projected growth of our community demands that we focus on celebrating and building our workforce. Through yet untapped communication strategies, we will generate energy that makes all of Shelby County more attractive to new business and industry.

Vice President – Commercial Lending Commonwealth Bank & Trust Kris is a graduate of Shelby County High School, Parris Island and the University of Louisville. He has been in the banking industry for 17 years and has worked in credit, business development, small business lending and commercial lending. His primary focus over the previous 12 years has been commercial lending, specifically Commercial Real Estate and Commercial/ Industrial. He and his wife have three children and they currently reside in Northwestern Shelby County. Kris was born in Colorado but has lived most of his life in Shelby County. He enjoys most sports (especially golf) and has a passion for the outdoors. Kris is an active member of our local community, currently serving with numerous boards and community organizations.

Dan Ison Judge Executive Shelby County Fiscal Court As your Shelby County Judge Executive, myself and Fiscal Court stay involved with the Chamber of Commerce as the business leaders in our community. This is just one way your county government continues to partner with businesses and our citizens on a daily basis in order to continue to make Shelby County a thriving environment for business.

President and CEO Shelby Energy Cooperative Worked in public accounting for three years followed by service as CFO and technology consultant in the private business world with varied clients. Served as CFO at Owen Electric Cooperative for six years, followed by 10 years as VP Finance/CFO at the Northern Kentucky Water District (80,000 meters muni system). After the District, I served for three years as GM/CEO at Washington Electric Cooperative (10,500 meters) in Marietta, OH and have currently been President/CEO of Shelby Energy Cooperative (17,000 meters) in Shelbyville, KY for about three years. The bulk of my career has been in the utility business and by far the best experiences have been in the cooperative world. By having a career outside of the cooperatives, I truly understand what a great environment it provides for a career. My wife and I have two adult children and are now enjoying our travel opportunities.

Director of the Simpsonville Parks and Recreation Department oversees the department, budget, staff, operations, park acreage, programs, services and facilities. Chris has worked professionally in the field of parks and recreation for over twenty-five years. He has extensive experience with youth, family and community recreation as well as a great deal of experience in sports programming. Chris has been involved in creating a number of sports and recreational programs receiving local, state and national recognition and awards. He values creative ventures and is open to any ideas that enhance the quality of life for residents of Simpsonville and surrounding communities. Chris believes in providing exceptional customer service, high quality programs/ facilities and in utilizing the talents and gifts of local citizens through volunteer efforts. By serving on the Board of Directors for the Shelby County Chamber Of Commerce Chris believes parks and recreation plays a pivotal role within the local economy and values strong partnership with local businesses.

As a lifelong resident of Bagdad, I can say that I love everything about Shelby County! It has been an honor to be a part of Shelby County Public Schools for the past five years, and I look forward to helping continue growth in the partnerships with education and our community. I feel blessed to raise my family here. I am married to my high-school sweetheart, Ben McNew, and we have two beautiful daughters, Bentley and Bristol. I also serve as a member of the Bagdad Cemetery Board, Shelbyville Kiwanis, and a contributing writer for Shelby County Life Magazine.

I am a lifelong resident of the Shelby County community, where my family proudly lives and works today. After going to college at Eastern Kentucky University, I then moved back to Shelby County to work at the family business “Edwards Moving & Rigging.” I have held several positions throughout the company ranging from a crew member to my current position as the CEO of Edwards Moving & Rigging. I understand the value of hard work and working your way up through the ranks of a company. I still reside in Shelby county with my wife, Becca, and 2 children. We all love the Shelby County Community and are always looking for ways to help and give back.

I’ve worked in Shelbyville since 1994 and lived in the community since 1999. I’m originally from SW Virginia, but I love living in Shelbyville. It’s a great place to raise a family and we’ve been very blessed to have so many friends in the community.

Executive Director – Shelby Main Street Executive Director – Leadership Shelby Owner, Darlene Snow Event Planning & Management Darlene serves as the Executive Director of Shelby Main Street as well as Leadership Shelby. Having moved to Shelbyville in 2013, she immediately fell in love with Shelby County and proudly calls it home. Darlene also has a passion for event planning and logistics and is the founder of Darlene Snow Event Planning & Management. She feels privileged to serve on the Board of Directors of Habitat for Humanity of Shelby County with a focus on fundraising and volunteer management. In addition, she serves on the Executive Board for the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, is a member of the Shelbyville Kiwanis, she also volunteers with many local non profits. These opportunities allow her to advocate for local businesses and organizations and give back to her community. When she’s not working or volunteering, she spends her time focused on personal and professional learning and playtime with her two pups, Ruger and Bailey. Darlene attended the Indiana School of Fundraising through an accelerated course for fundraising management.

I participated in cross-country, track, swimming and represented my class as president my senior year. I attended JCC as well as University of Louisville. I started my Insurance career with Humana Insurance in 2014 and made the change to an agent with Old Kentucky Insurance in 2019 selling home, auto and business insurance. I enjoy spending time at the Shelbyville Country Club were I have been a member since 2016, rooting on my Kentucky Wildcats/ Dallas Cowboys and spending time with my family and friends.

I was born and raised in South Texas in a town called McAllen where I grew up loving sports and spending time with family. I attended Texas A&M University where I earned an Undergraduate and Master’s degree in Sports Management and minor in Business Administration. From college I went to work for the LPGA and PGA Tours where I was an Operations Manager for several tournaments. I am blessed to have been married to my wife Whitney for the last 6+ years and have a 3 year old named Jackson. In 2015 I decided to make a career change and coming from a family (5 State Farm Agents) of insurance...I knew it was my calling! I love being able to help people and assist them in protecting their largest assets and prepare for the future. I am a proud small business owner and State Farm Agent in Simpsonville & Shelby County and I look forward to helping you soon!

After graduating high school, I officially began my banking career at US Bank while simultaneously attending the University of Louisville. As I earned my degree, I continued to advance my banking career by becoming a senior a banker. Fast forward ten years, I am still in the banking industry as an Area Manager at Stock Yard’s Bank & Trust. With the Stock Yard’s Bank & Trust and Commonwealth Bank & Trust merger, I will finally be returning home as I will be responsible for managing the four current Commonwealth branches in Shelby County. On a personal note, my wife and I are expecting a baby girl the beginning of next year! In my free time, I enjoy gardening, playing with our two dogs and working on our home in Simpsonville with my wife. Aaron Garofola joined UofL Health in November of 2019 as the Chief Executive Officer of UofL Health – Shelbyville Hospital. Prior to his current role, Mr. Garofola has served in several Chief Executive roles including two hospitals within the Lutheran Health Network in Fort Wayne, Indiana; as well as a large independent multispecialty physician group. In his 20 year career in healthcare, Mr. Garofola also served in Operation Joint Forge in Bosnia, and Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan with the Indiana Army National Guard. Mr. Garofola is currently an active Board Member of the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce, the Shelby County Industrial & Development Foundation, and the Lincoln Heritage Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Began his most recent career with Kentucky Farm Bureau September 1st, 2020 as an Insurance Agent, selling multi lines. After completing his first year Mike was recognized as one of top producing agent in the District, and one of the leading producing agents contracted in year 2020. Prior to signing on with Farm Bureau, Mike had a long a prosperous career with Enterprise Holdings (the apparent company of Enterprise Rent-A-Car). Mike began his career with Enterprise July 1st of 1993, he accepted an early retirement in June of 2020. During his time at Enterprise, he was witness to the company growing from a small regional company to a multi-faceted, international, industry leader with multiple brands. He held many roles over his time with Enterprise, with his most recent role as the Group Talent Manager handling Kentucky and Southern Indiana. Mike is also the Head Baseball Coach at Martha Layne Collins High and has led the Program since August of 2015 and been on staff since the inception of the school. During his tenure the Titans have won 225 + games, 8 District Regular season championships, 5 District tourney championships, 3 Regional Championships, and 3 State Quarter final finishes. In that time frame he has seen 37 players sign collegiate scholarships.

“Shelby County Proud” Scholarship Contributions

The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce is committed to the development of a strong workforce in the county. To foster workforce development, the Chamber has awarded scholarships to graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to career and technical education as well as a desire to pursue a career in Shelby County. We have also awarded scholarships to adult students at the Shelby County Campus of Jefferson Community and Technical College. Based on the funding available, scholarships are awarded in December for adult learners and in May for high school seniors This has been made possible through the Commerce Enhancement Corporation. This non-profit entity tasks include providing funding and support for educational, scientific, or charitable programs which are designed to provide information or opportunities

which will enhance economic development efforts and goals of government, education and civic organizations in Shelby County community. In order to fulfill the needs in our community to allow individuals to continue their education with a desire to return to Shelby County for their career, we have started many new different revenue building concepts. The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce offers different scholarship donations opportunities for our business leaders and has recently created a “Shelby County Proud” swag store. 5% of all profits made at our online swag store will go back to help award even more recipients of the scholarship opportunities.
