Glow-in-the-Dark Trail Completed spring of 2021, this unique trail will run 2 miles in length south of Vinton near the high school and is the longest of its kind in the United States. Nature Center
The Benton County Nature Center at Rodgers Park offers an outdoor classroom, interpretive opportunities, a few miles of trails, fishing, picnic locations, outdoor pavilions, volleyball, wildlife viewing, camping, and a playground. The center is located 5 miles northwest of Vinton off 20th Ave. Drive, just West of Rodgers Park. 319-4724942. The Nature Center was built with conservation in mind, making use of local resources and energy-efficient technology. The trails through Rodgers Park connect the Nature Center to the campground area and offer great views and wildlife viewing opportunities.

Vinton The Benton County Historical Society is an all-volunteer organization founded in 1970 to kindle interest in and promote preservation of local history. The Horridge House located at 612 First Avenue, is the site of the Benton County Historical Society’s Archives and Museum. The Genealogy Department is housed here and is opened at specific times year around. The house is named Horridge House after the builders, George and Elizabeth Rock Horridge. It was built in the 1860’s. The house is of brick believed to be of the local brickyards of that era. As you stand on the brick paved front porch, be sure to notice the original brass lion head door knocker. Once inside, one finds tin walls and ceiling in the kitchen, a product of Mr. Horridge, whose business and craft was tinsmithing. There is also a Romanesque sculptural relief, which was brought back from Italy by the second Mrs. Horridge and in the parlor is a beautiful French pier mirror. These are only three of the many interesting facets of the Horridge House. The Ray House and Carriage House located at 912 First Avenue were entered into the National Register of Historical Places on December 10, 1982. This excellent example of late Victorian Architecture with Queen Anne features was constructed in 1893 by Frank G.
Ray, local entrepreneur. The house retains many fine interior features and its original matching carriage house. Most notable among its array of exterior features is the three story corner turret. There are ten rooms, seven fireplaces, open stairway, full-floored attic on third floor, with servant quarters and full basement, where it is believed the meals were prepared. With the stain glass windows, leaded glass windows, and many different woods in the fireplaces, this is a beautiful house. The Depot and Rail Museum - Before the Rock Island came into possession of the railroad line into Vinton, a passenger station was erected at 612 Second Avenue, at a cost of about $40,000 and was dedicated March 1, 1900. The lower five feet of the wall is of dressed stone of light color and the upper part of pressed brick. The floor of the depot is of marble tile and the woodwork of oak. The depot no longer sees the bustle of passengers, the mail being snared or cargo being loaded and unloaded. It now stands quietly, reminiscing of those days and being preserved as another “Historical Point of Interest in Benton County.” Please email bentoncohistorical@gmail. com. The lower five feet of the walls are limestone; the upper portion is brick. The floor is marble tile; the woodwork is white oak. The platform of 30,000 bricks was re-laid in 1991. VINTON Murals
Murals 11 murals depicting Vinton’s rich history are displayed on buildings in downtown Vinton. The first murals were painted in 2000 by the Walldogs, a group of artists coming together from across the United States, who returned in 2019 to add companion murals as well as new in celebration of Vinton’s 150th Sesquicentennial.

Chain Saw Carvings by Brian Parr - Vinton Parr is a self-taught artist. After the Derecho wind storm of 2011, Brian added to several existing sculptures by creating works of art from tree trunks that would have otherwise been destroyed. They can be seen from the comfort of your car. Parr has created 21 sculptures throughout the Vinton community. Red Cedar River Display- Celebration Park - Vinton Nearly 20 feet of panels displaying more than 30 points of interest along the Cedar River’s course through Benton County, plus more on natural wildlife, historical floods, bridges and more.
