Navasota ISD Superintendent of Schools To the graduating Class of 2020 Someone recently asked me if I had to put what has happened over the past five months into one word what it would be? My first thought was there is no way one word could even start to describe all that has happened over the past five months in our community, our state, our nation, or throughout the world. Then, a flood of words ran through my mind including: unprecedented, heartbreaking, challenging, testing, and interesting. However, as always, in times like this, we have joined together, stood together, and taken this challenge and turned it into opportunity. With that frame of mind, I have heard words used to describe our community during this time as: reflective, unifying, compassionate, strong, and resilient. Being able to overcome the challenges life throws at you is a valuable, priceless gift. We all have curve balls thrown our way. We all experience both good and bad, easy and tough, and rewarding and challenging times in our lives. Hard times are inevitable, and when those difficult times arise we should be prepared. Tough times are not what matter. It is what we do during those times and how we handle them that are important. How we respond to challenges are what defines us. Pressing forward through adverse times is what makes us better. The Class of 2020 will always be remembered - that is for sure! But, what will you be remembered for? It is my hope and prayer you will be able to look back as an individual and as a group to remember all you gained through this time, not all that you lost. I hope you remember everything that strengthened you and brought you together rather than anything that pulled you apart. Romans 8:37-39 says: “But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither... things present, nor things to come... will be able to separate us from the love of God...” This may have been a year of “firsts,” but we must work together and remember - tough times don’t last, but tough people always will! #WeAreNavasota and we are ALL IN this TOGETHER!
