With more opportunities than ever before available to students, The Corbin Independent School District is making it a daily goal to ensure its young people are being adequately prepared for whatever path they choose to take after high school.
“Our district mission statement is ‘Striving To Be Our Best,’” said Corbin Schools Superintendent Dave Cox. “We emphasize this in everything that we do. Our district puts a premium on getting the best people and putting them in the right places.”
Cox said that the proof is in the pudding when it comes to the investment that the district is making in its students.
“The Corbin Independent School District has made significant investments in academic extracurricular programs in recent years,” Cox explained. “Since 2008, we have either opened, or are completing construction, on four new projects: Corbin Primary School, Corbin Mid-
dle School, the Corbin Career Center, and the new Corbin High School track, softball and tennis complex.”
Cox also mentioned major renovations to the high school itself, the Corbin Education Center, and the ongoing work that is taking place at the site of the soon-to-be brand new Campbell Field football facility.
In total, an excess of $120 million has been spent in recent years to, as Cox put it, “provide students with academic, social and physical opportunities that will benefit them for generations.”
Cox knows that none of this would be possible without the generous support of the Corbin community, though, saying, “We are extremely grateful to the people of Corbin for the tremendous support that we receive on a daily basis. Education in our district is truly a community effort.
Just some of the academic pathways and career tracks offered by the Corbin Independent School District include: accounting, auto-
motive, biomedical, culinary, electrical, medical, graphic design, hospitality, military, law enforcement, marketing, nursing, carpentry, education, welding, theater, music and visual arts. The district has produced over 100 Governor’s Scholars in the past decade, and in 2023, a total of $4,000,000 in scholarships was earned by its high school seniors.
Corbin is also well-known for its exceptional athletic achievements, offering nearly 30 varsitylevel sports and activities. A regional contender across the board most years, and a regular fixture in various state-level competitions, the Redhound athletic program has become synonymous with pride, tradition, and success.
Corbin High School - All students are continually encouraged to participate in some area of interest, of which there are several.
The school has created what it calls a “Student Support Team,” which is a collection of staff members that will meet regularly to discuss atrisk students, or those who may need counseling of some sort. This is done in an effort to be more proactive in meeting students’ needs.
The 2022-23 school year saw the opening of the Corbin Career Center, which offers students the opportunity to take HVAC and constructionrelated classes. These programs were specifically developed in communication with community stakeholders in order to meet the growing needs
This past year, our state participated in the full academic accountability system with the Kentucky Summative Assessment, administered at the end of the school year. Corbin Middle was in the top five percent for middle school in the state, and earned the highest color-code rank of blue.
With a wide array of course offerings, club, and athletics coupled with a passionate and caring staff, CMS believes that all students can learn, and they will learn.
dents to a high level of academic performance while fostering growth in social-emotional behavior and attitudes, thus enabling all students to achieve mastery of skills necessary to become effective members of society.
tary School has approximately 395 students enrolled, and serves students in grade 4 and 5. On the 2021-22 state assessment, CES obtained a federal classification of blue, giving students the recognition that goes along with being a highperforming school.
CES ranked in the top six percent of all elementary schools on the state assessment for the 2021-22 school year.
Teachers at CES receive professional development in programs that are utilized within the school, and specific teaching strategies to help students reach their highest potential.
Students at CES can independently apply for the school’s Student Leadership Team. The team is selected based on certain criteria, and once selected they will engage in activities like coordinating food drives, designing special programs to recognize teachers and staff, and coordinating student-led school tours for incoming fourth graders. They also lead morning meetings, develop attendance challenges, and serve as student representation for decision-making purposes.
Corbin Primary School - Education plays a vital role in shaping the future of a community, and Corbin Primary School stands as a beacon of excellence in early childhood education. At CPS, the education of young minds goes beyond just text-
books. The school prides itself on its holistic approach, recognizing the importance of addressing not only academic development, but also emotional, social, and physical growth.
One of the pillars of Corbin Primary School’s success lies in its exceptional faculty and staff. Highly qualified and passionate educators strive to create a nurturing and engaging learning environment for their students. Employing various techniques, and collaborating on projects in order to enhance the learning experience, the staff at CPS is committed to ensuring each child receives the support that they need to thrive academically and personally.
are the main provider of virtual instruction for students in the district.
The 202223 school year was exciting and successful, with some highlights including a significant increase in students receiving college credit through KCTCS using KHEAA scholarships, and increased percentages of students receiving industry certification in areas such as nursing, law enforcement, welding, EMT/EMS, automotive, and electrical.
Corbin Education Center - CEC is a specialized treatment and educational program that caters to both male and female students in grades 4-12. Operated by the Corbin Board of Education in collaboration with the Kentucky Department of Juvenile Justice and the Kentucky Educational Collaborative for State Agency Children, CEC provides hopes and success for students in the TriCounty area.
Corbin Preschool Center - The Corbin Preschool Center is committed to providing a childcentered learning environment with high expectations for all. Offering Montessori and traditional preschool for children between the ages of 3-5, all programs at CPC are licensed under the Kentucky Department of Education and the Cabinet for Families and Children.
The Corbin School of Innovation is a community school which has a population of 300 students. We provide a full Montessori program for grades K-12, and we

The company opened its doors for business in 2002, providing both area residents and other businesses a variety of technical solutions from a small shop right along Main Street in Corbin. The idea for CIS was spawned from brothers Darrell and Eric Greer, chief executive officer and president of CIS, respectively, who had previously worked as engineers building telecom and carrier networks all over the country for various internet service providers (ISP).
As part of their work, the brothers helped create a division of information technology services geared toward businesses. But when the ISP moved to entirely divest in the technology, Darrell and Eric decided to return home and put their
skills and knowledge to use in the community they loved.
“We pride ourselves in building our relationships with our clients. We had built those relationships with that previous company and when they were looking to simply shut down, we didn’t want to leave folks high and dry,” said Eric. “So, we had a decision: we could either stay with the company and move off to one of the major cities or stay here locally and build on what we had been doing.”
“We’re from Corbin and we chose to stay in Corbin because we really love this area,” said Darrell. “Eric and I have worked all over the United States in various stints, and we’re a firm believer that this is the best place in the United States.”
is a company built with both its clients in mind and a love for the area it serves.
While CIS may have originally provided technical solutions to consumers, it didn’t take long for the brothers to realize they needed to shift the focus of their company, which involved closing their storefront and pivoting solely toward servicing commercial businesses.
“Both of us came together and decided we wanted to try to build a resource for local businesses,” said Eric.
“We started sending our engineers home,” said Darrell. “Now, all CIS employees work remotely.”
With a team of roughly a dozen core engineers, CIS has built up its customer base since that time. They now provide services to clients throughout the region, from south of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, to north of Lexington.
Despite the growth CIS has seen since its inception, the Greers have moved away from being fixated on constantly trying to acquire more and more clients, and instead ensuring that their existing clients are getting the highest quality of service imaginable.
“Our goal is to make sure they’re as efficient as possible and they have the best solutions as possible to achieve whatever goal they want,” said Darrell.
According to the CIS website, their technical solutions fall primarily into four categories: information technology (IT), data security, physical security and audio visual.
From an IT standpoint, CIS provides businesses with ways to enhance their IT infrastructure to protect their critical data in case of a catastrophe, such as the business’s physical location being destroyed.
Their data security division provides a mix of firewalls and other security applications to safeguard a business’ private information, as well as other confidential information that could become public through means of a data leak. CIS offers physical security services that are meant to protect both a business’ tangible and intangible assets.
Finally, their audio-visual division helps businesses by providing them with the ability to immediately alert people of an emergency.
For more information about CIS, visit their website at www.ciscorp.co. For business owners interested in CIS’ services, you can reach them by phone at (606) 258-8899 or by email at sales@ciscorp.biz.
We’re from Corbin and we chose to stay in Corbin because we really love this area.
Sav-Rite Home Care has been serving Corb in and surrounding communities since Au gust of 1995, offering exceptional health care services with a patient-first approach. The dedi cated and friendly staff at Sav-Rite Home Care, led by own ers Kyle and Karen Hubbs, make it their goal to en sure custom ers feel safe, secure, and well-cared for. From the moment you enter their doors, you’ll be greeted with a warm smile, meant to create a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
Sav-Rite got its start on Master St. in Corbin in August of 1995. By 1998, they had outgrown that location and moved just up the road to a larger building. 20 years later, in September of 2018, they relocated to their current location, at 14141 N US Hwy 25E in Corbin. With an expanded range of goods and services, Kyle and Karen Hubbs said their staff are able to cater to the diverse needs of the individuals under their care.
One way that Sav-Rite is able to accomplish this
goal is through a new mastectomy suite designed to enhance customer privacy and comfort. Recognizing the importance of being able to have loved ones nearby, the room has expanded to accommodate family or friends during consultations. This feature sets them apart from many other providers in the region.
“It was basically a closet,” Karen Hubbs said of the mastectomy section in Sav-Rite’s previous location. “We felt there was not enough privacy, and no room for family members.
Sav-Rite Home Care takes great pride in offering unique services, such as respiratory care provided by a dedicated therapist and specialized CPAP supplies setup. Additionally, their showroom showcases a variety of products, including lift chairs with cup holders and phone chargers, as well as dia betic shoes for display.
Sav-Rite Home Care partici pates in two significant commu nity events each year: Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October and Cookies with Santa during Christmas. The Hubbs say they have seen a significant response from the community with both of these events.
That was a big thing for us, and something that we wanted to focus on as far as change.”
Kyle and Karen attribute their success to the dedication and contribution of their staff. With 19 individuals employed, some having served for over 15 years, and at least one employee for an impressive 21 years, Sav-Rite Home Care maintains a team of reliable professionals prioritizing patient well-being.
Looking ahead, Kyle affirms that the name “Sav-Rite” will continue to speak for itself, emphasizing their commitment to continuing their delivery of exceptional service. Their primary focus remains on
consistently providing high-quality care. For further information about the range of services, supplies, and ways to stay connected, please visit Sav-Rite Home Care’s website at www.savritehomecare.com or follow them on Facebook at Sav-Rite Home Care. Serving the southeastern region of Kentucky, Sav-Rite Home Care operates from Monday to Friday, between 9 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. However, even outside these hours, they offer 24-hour emergency service, ensuring assistance is available whenever needed.

Those were the words of Senate President Robert Stivers Tuesday, June 13, when he joined other local and state-level officials at the site of what will soon be the newest speculative building to be constructed inside the Southern Kentucky Business Park located just off the Corbin Bypass near the Knox and Whitley County line.
“You all have done a really good job working on this together,” Stivers said in reference to Southern Kentucky Economic Development Director Bruce Carpenter, Whitley County Judge Executive Pat White, Jr., Knox County Judge Executive Mike Mitchell, Corbin Mayor Suzie Razmus, and others.
“This is not just a city or a county,” Stivers added. “We’re a region, and this is a good regional project that will bring a lot of jobs, opportunity and revenue to the area.”
According to Stivers, over 40 percent of all searches for industrial development in Kentucky is taking place along the I-75 corridor. “That is a big statistic when you think about the state as a whole,” he said.
The site of the new spec building is located approximately 3.5 miles from I-75 Exit 25 in south Corbin.
Carpenter thanked Stivers for visiting the site, as well as 82nd District State Rep. Nick Wilson, Southern Kentucky Industrial Authority Board Chairman Alvin Sharpe, Cetco Geologist Hunter Hawkins, MSE Civil Engineer Joe Cook, Mike Mills with True Contracting and the other previously mentioned local officials.
Carpenter said that the new spec building is currently in the design phase, and it will be built with the potential for expansion in mind.
“What we were seeing with some of the RFI’s (request for information) and RFP’s (request for proposal) that we were getting from companies was people saying they would like to have a manufacturing facility that is adjacent to a warehousing or
distribution facility, so that is how this is getting designed,” Carpenter explained.
Carpenter had said previously that once construction on this new spec building begins, it will take approximately 12 months to complete.
After the visit to the site of the new spec building, Carpenter joined Stivers, Razmus and Mitchell at the rapidly evolving Cumberland Run racetrack facility located just around the corner on the Corbin Bypass.
He also said that the facility is being built so that expansion will be possible in the future, similar to The Mint Gaming Hall Cumberland in Williamsburg.
While there, General Manager Henry Graffeo offered an update on the facility, saying the indoor portion will include about 50 historical horse racing machines and a bar area.
As for the race track, Graffeo said Cumberland Run is still on pace to be able to host races in mid-October, and that a total of 12 race days are slated to be held.
During their visit, Graffeo escorted Stivers and company through the nearby horse barn, which contains a total of 112 stalls for racing horses.
“It’s like The Field of Dreams…
If you build it, they will come.”
We provide customers with turn-key solutions to manufacturing ideas.
