W
e are so fortunate to live in the great state of Texas. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who has been affected by the coronavirus during these unprecedented times. Thankfully, we have been blessed that Texas has had fewer cases than most parts of the country. Both our Governor and President have made some difficult decisions over the past few months without a “play book.” Kerrville and Comanche Trace are undoubtedly located in one of the best parts of the entire state. Our community allows for ample social distancing while still being able to enjoy Mother Nature’s beauty and assets of the Hill Country. Comanche Trace has been fortunate to continue to see success with Real Estate sales as well as growth in our Club and Development despite the pandemic. We look forward for this to continue throughout the remainder of the year. If you are looking for a new home, whether it be a Garden Patio Home, Single-Family Home or an Estate Home, we have it all here. We have some great Builders that offer new construction Spec Homes, with the majority of their jobs being Custom Homes. We currently have approximately 50 homes that are planned to start within the next 12 months. Word From the Board
O
ur first few months on the HOA Board have been a learning experience. We have had a chance to attend a workshop to better understand the HOA Financials and also serve on the Architectural Review Committee. In addition, we continue to spend Mondays with Dennis Rollow, touring maintained landscape neighborhoods, which is a continuation of something Mike Sigerman started when he was on the HOA Board. We have had a chance to meet many of the employees who perform the landscaping duties and have seen the quality of their work. On occasion, residents bring issues to the attention of Dennis, but we have found them to be addressed quickly by the staff. We have also spent time dealing with COVID-19 and the impact it has had with the Hospitality Staff
at the Pinnacle Grill. Thanks to an idea brought to us by Dave Phelps, we have worked with Dave and Danny Almond to create a GoFundMe account for the 10 employees who were laid off. Thanks to the generosity of the Residents and Members, we were able to collect $26,000. The disbursement of these funds has been managed by a committee of four, which includes the two of us along with Dave and Danny. We have already disbursed over half the funds due to several weeks delay in receiving unemployment, plus to the two employees that were ineligible. Also, three employees had health benefits, and we helped them with Cobra payments. We would like to give a special shout out to Le Ann Smith who provided the laid-off employees assistance in filing for unemployment and has been an invaluable resource to us.

Now that the Pinnacle Grill is back in operation with limited capacity, most of the employees laid off are back, but we are monitoring for additional financial needs due to reduced hours and tips earned until capacity is back to normal. Any remaining funds at the end of the year will be donated to the Annual Employee Christmas Fund. Finally, we are in the early stages of working with Dennis Rollow to study the feasibility of developing a dog park for Comanche Trace. One of the key design features would be a separate fenced-in area for small and large dogs. This is certainly something we would bring before the residents once we have finished the study, including estimated costs. In the meantime, if you have any thoughts on the idea, we would love to hear from you, so please email us ideas or concerns.

Q: What are the names, ages and breeds of your
dogs?
A: Sunny is a Carolina Dog — approximately 9 years old. (She is a rescue from the Chama Indian Reservation. Sunny adopted us by appearing in our driveway and she never left. She was a wild dog and close to death.)
Lil’ Rascal is a 5-year-old Sheltie. He’s our fifth Sheltie. We love the 14

Sunny thinks Lil’ Rascal is her baby and is very protective of him. We were worried when we brought him home that she would think he was a chipmunk or squirrel and that she’d try to eat him. (She hunted to survive on her own as a wild dog.) Instead, she immediately fell in love with him, cuddled him and she still protects him!

Golf Update By Jeff Hunter, PGA
W
hat an interesting spring we’ve had! The weather has been both hot and cold, (literally), with some perfect days, and our schedules have been turned upside down with the coronavirus. The social distancing rules and lack of gatherings have made the social aspect of golf a little more difficult, however more players are truly enjoying the Golf Course. As a few Members have pointed out, they have not seen this many homes occupied at one time. We have our usual summer residents, but quite a few of our “Winter Texans” are still here as well. As we all wait for the world to return to “normal,” it is great to see activity picking up in the Restaurant, and we look forward to the tournament schedule opening up. We have all been extremely blessed that our Golf Course has remained open and is in great shape. While others were forced to close, we would like to thank you all for working with us on Guest Policies and limiting the number of carts in the Fairways. As Governor Greg Abbott puts forth new guidelines, we will continue to adhere and those as well as CDC recommendations to provide the most enjoyable and safe experience for Members and their guests. As you all know, this year is the 20th Anniversary of Comanche Trace. Activities around the anniversary have been planned for this fall, and we look forward to a great summer and fall schedule. The Pro Shop will soon have clothing and accessories adorned with the 20th Anniversary logo. Most manufacturers are expected to begin shipping soon, so please come by the Pro Shop to be the first among your friends to sport the new apparel. Please refer to your yearly calendars and watch for emails containing information on all our upcoming events. A couple of dates have changed, but our staple events will take place. Tips for Playing in the Wind

Take more club into the wind and swing more easily: This will take some of the spin off the ball, which means the ball will fly straighter with less side spin — spin is enhanced by wind. Hitting it harder into the wind is not the answer. Control your ball flight with your follow through! The higher your finish, the higher the ball flight! In order to hit it lower, stop your follow through waist high. Always stay aggressive through the hitting area. The biggest mistake I see is slowing down at impact for knock down shots.

Don’t fight Mother Nature; you can’t win. Let the ball move left or right with the wind and choose the middle of the green, not tucked pins! Tour Pros can “hold it into the wind” only on occasion, so we should not even try! Finally, be positive! Most are defeated before they start when it is windy. Enjoy the challenge and you will be shots ahead of your opponents before you ever start.
