By Matheus Palma Category 14 - health, science and agriculture writing Known as pillars of humanity, health, science and agriculture are directly related, when one of these topics faces growth, it also leads to improvement in the other areas. During history, science always meant progress, bringing new processes, questions and answers. Agriculture was invented more than 11,000 years ago and still bears influence on the human race. Health is always present, considering it is what maintains life, there is infinite room for refinement. Considering James Lind Institute’s studies, “Agriculture produces world’s food, materials for shelter and important sources for livelihood which is essential for good health of diverse populations in different countries. Miscalculations in farming can lead to food shortage and misapplications of agricultural hazardous materials, contaminated food products and healthcare errors can lead to death”. Proving how important agriculture is for global health, that even a small mistake in production could affect the entire world. In addition to that fact many countries like Laos, China, Vietnam, Oman and the Philippines depend on agriculture imports, increasing how crucial crops are to the economy and well-being according to an 2025 Nature Food study. There are also many countries whose economies depend on exporting natural intakes (Brazil, Malawi, Madagascar, Belize and many others). It is thought that nations with efficient agricole systems tend to have better public health, due to their food security, nutrition and quality. Scientific research is essential to agriculture, through discoveries, new technologies are developed, enabling farmers to increase productivity while adapting to weather, pest and soil conditions. As written by CSA news (Crop science, Soil science Agronomy), “As pressures on food systems intensify, the role of science is to both sustain productivity and correct course by guiding practices that protect ecosystems while supporting the people and economies that depend on them”. Showing how science can affect Agriculture, sustaining efficiency and making sure everything is going correctly. As a systemic science, agriculture continually reshapes its own subject, matching the subject’s complexity. Modern health is backed by scientific research, providing evidence, knowledge, technologies and new methods. According to NIH (National Library of Medicine),“Nevertheless, by bringing theory, systematic methods, and an ability to generalise to an endeavour, science can help to make improvement more predictable and less wasteful”. By making things more predictable in health areas, errors are less common, helping doctors to save lives. Before treatments/medicines are approved, scientific tests are made, ensuring that it is safe for use, giving instructions and limitations. Without that information, many people would suffer from incorrect use of medications. Concluding that agriculture, science and health are proportionally related, meaning that they walk together, with the objective of giving people a better life expectancy and upgraded conditions.
