Tariff Threats on European Countries
By: Kyla Hoffman
United States President Donald Trump has begun to make tariff threats on European countries. Trump has made it increasingly clear he wants to take over Greenland, and many European countries are coming to the defense of Greenland. These countries are France, Sweden, Germany, Norway, Finland, and the Netherlands. All of these countries are now facing tariff threats from Trump, as he seems to hope this will deter them from protecting Greenland.
It is an issue that he wants to take over, because Greenland is an autonomous Danish territory. It is not for sale, and yet Trump has repeatedly threatened to take it, peacefully or by military force. He has said that it is critical for United States security In addition, Greenland has many natural resources, including oil, gas, and mineral reserves. This is likely to be Donald Trump's main motivation for wanting to take the country However, Greenland citizens as well as the Prime Minister of Greenland Jens-Frederik Nielsen are not sitting back, as many recently protested in the Danish capital Copenhagen and Greenland's capital Nuuk. It is clear that they will not willingly give up their country, and the U.S. will be faced with quite a bit of opposition if they continue to try to take over Greenland.
