Exploration of Xenotransplantation
By Layla Castro
There are over 100,000 people on the organ transplant list, all of whom are waiting for a donated organ in order to save their lives. Approximately 13 people a day die waiting for an organ transplant. These statistics show that there aren’t nearly enough donations to save everyone’s life, and the demand grows each day. This shortage of organ donations has caused scientists to find a new way to save people's lives without needing human organ donations. One of the most controversial and technologically advanced solutions is xenotransplantation, the transplantation of animal organs into human bodies. Although xenotransplantation is controversial, it has the potential to save thousands of lives.
Xenotransplantation is the scientific process of transplanting organs from one species to another, specifically animal organs into humans. This process is being studied due to the fact that there simply aren't enough donations to keep up with the large number of people who need organ transplants to live. Xenotransplantation works by genetically modifying the animal's organs so
