Our Own Editor’s Love Story
Love stories often come edited, tied up with a pretty bow. They are seen in your favorite television dramas, fantasy books, and Instagram reels. They are all the same, aren’t they? Boy meets girl, they fall in love, and live happily ever after. They are most likely high school sweethearts. Maybe they’re former enemies turned lovers. Possibly they had a forbidden love affiar. You know the story...
Sorry to stay true to the stereotypes, but we did meet in high school!

Freshman year of high school wasn’t anything like what the movies taught me. There were no random sing-alongs or flash mobs bursting out in the hallways. The lunchroom wasn’t sectioned off according to popularity status, and not everyone knew the name of the prom king and queen. High school, I quickly learned, was much more ordinary and real than the dramatic stories I grew up watching. The movies I watched as a kid were way off, except for one thing: I met the love of my life in a classroom.
Nick and I went through our teenage years together, enjoying every moment as we grew both individually and as a couple. We attended dances, studied together late into the night, and supported each other’s passions and dreams. I focused on the arts; writing, graphic design, and dance. He found his passion in the medical field, a calling that eventually led him to join the Army at just 18 years old.
During my junior and senior years, we learned how to love from a distance through handwritten letters, late-night calls, and surprise visits whenever possible. Though the distance was hard, it only strengthened our relationship and taught us patience and trust. By the time I graduated, he was home safe and sound, and we were ready to begin the next chapter together. We planned to move to Fort Wayne so I could attend my dream school, the University of Saint Francis. For two years, we saved money, worked hard, and finally landed in this great city we now call home.
In June of this year, we planned a trip to visit his best friend, but little did I know, Nick was planning something even greater. We decided to hike Turkey Run National Park as a double-date adventure, enjoying the scenery and each other’s company. Halfway through the trail, we stopped to take pictures. Nick and I were posing, his friend snapping photo after photo, and then it happened. Nick got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.
Of course, I said yes!
Now, both of us in are college and learning how to navigate adulthood. We are planning our wedding and dreaming about the bright future ahead of us. One built on love, growth, and everything we’ve already overcome together.

The Journey of Fort Wayne Lifestyle

It’s kind of wild to think back to just over a year ago, when Bill and I kicked off this whole adventure. Bill’s a hometown guy—he’s from here, still lives here, and he was the one who said, “Hey, let’s bring something special to our own community.” And for me, after spending 20 years in all the big markets—Indy, Phoenix, L.A., and a solid 12 years in Denver working with high-end publications—this was my chance to come home and do something meaningful right here.
We never wanted to just hand out another coupon book. We wanted to give you real content you actually care about—content you help shape. And now, a dozen issues in, looking back at that first cover and comparing it to our latest, it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come. We’re basically bringing all the big-city “toys” to our own smaller city, and we’re just getting started. Thanks for being with us—keep watching us grow!

Indiana Loan & Jewelry, founded in 1993 by James Gulley, has always operated on the principle of treating people with respect and care. That philosophy remains at the core of their business today.
In 2004, Mr. Gulley’s son in law, John Houser, took over management, with a mission to rebuild and elevate the store. His wife, Jennifer, has been an integral part of the business, ensuring everything runs smoothly. With a commitment to excellence, John became a GIA-certified jeweler, transforming Indiana Loan & Jewelry into a premier destination for refurbished fine jewelry.

As the business expanded, they ventured deeper into musical instruments as well. In 2009, Joshua Miller joined, bringing expertise in musical equipment and helping the store become one of the largest used guitar shop in the region. In 2015, Alex, the third generation, joined the team and now oversees daily operations, ensuring continued success.
The store’s reputation is built on its dedicated team, many of whom have been with Indiana Loan & Jewelry for years, embodying professionalism, integrity, and exceptional service. This commitment has made them one of the most trusted and pristine stores in the region.

Stronger Than Ever
How One Fort Wayne Family Found Hope, Healing, and Community
In Fort Wayne, stories of generosity often unfold quietly, shaped by everyday people who continue to show up even when life asks more of them than expected. Sarah and Michael Thompson know this truth intimately. Recently featured in local Fort Wayne news for their impact on the community, the Thompsons’ story has taken on deeper meaning following a challenging season marked by the health struggles of their newborn child—and a hopeful recovery that has renewed their purpose.
Known throughout their neighborhood for their kindness and involvement, Sarah and Michael have long believed that community is built through consistency, not convenience. Whether organizing donation drives, supporting local families in need, or volunteering their time, they’ve always led with compassion. But shortly after welcoming their newest child into the world, their roles shifted—from helpers to those learning how to receive help themselves.

Their newborn faced unexpected medical complications early on, turning what should have been a joyful, peaceful time into one filled with hospital visits, long nights, and unanswered questions. Like many parents in similar situations, Sarah and Michael found themselves balancing fear with faith, leaning on one another while navigating the emotional weight of uncertainty.
Through it all, their newborn showed incredible resilience. With the care of dedicated medical professionals and unwavering support at home, their child has recently recovered well, a milestone the Thompsons describe as nothing short of a blessing. The relief and gratitude they feel now has only deepened their appreciation for the strength of community and the importance of compassion during life’s hardest chapters.

In a city defined by heart and resilience, Sarah and Michael Thompson stand as a reflection of Fort Wayne at its best— proving that compassion doesn’t disappear in hardship, it grows. Their story is one of service, struggle, and healing, showing that when families support one another, hope has room to thrive.

“I do” in Bloom
February isn’t just the month of love, it’s the unofficial beginning of wedding season. As winter softens and spring peeks around the corner, brides everywhere begin dreaming in textures, tones, and tiny details that make a wedding feel unmistakably theirs. This season is about more than a date on the calendar; it’s about becoming the center of a story that’s been quietly unfolding for years.
For brides, this moment is deeply personal. It’s choosing flowers that feel like your personality in bloom, fabrics that move the way you want to feel walking down the aisle, and colors that speak without saying a word. It’s equal parts excitement and calm, nerves and confidence. Wedding season invites brides to slow down and savor each decision. Every fitting, every swatch, every spark of inspiration clipped and saved.
There’s beauty in the ritual of preparation: imagining the first look, practicing vows in the mirror, and realizing that this day is not about perfection, but presence. It’s about how you feel when you step into your dress, surrounded by love, knowing this chapter is entirely your own.
Here in Fort Wayne, bridal shopping becomes part of the experience itself. From the romantic charm of One Fine Day to the modern elegance of The Bridal Bar and the curated magic of Oh, My Gown, local boutiques offer more than dresses, they offer moments brides will remember long after the last dance.

Flowers set the mood before a single word is spoken. Soft neutrals feel timeless, bold blooms feel fearless, and wild arrangements feel effortlessly romantic. Choose florals that reflect your energy, not just trends. Bonus tip: repurpose ceremony flowers at the reception, beautiful, practical, and very bridal season savvy. Seasonal blooms also help stretch your budget. When in doubt, let your bouquet be your signature statement, one that photographs beautifully and feels unforgettable in your hands.
The Bouquet
“Being a bride isn’t about becoming someone new—it’s about stepping fully into who you already are, wrapped in love, intention, and a future you get to build together.”

The Girls
Your bridal party is your emotional support system in matching dresses. Choose styles that flatter everyone and colors that photograph beautifully, happy bridesmaids glow brighter. Pro tip: let them have a say. Comfortable friends equal better energy, better photos, and way more fun on the dance floor. Don’t forget to show your appreciation with thoughtful gifts or a quiet thank-you moment before the day begins. Their love will carry you through every happy tear.

The Ring
Your ring tells a story before you ever say “I do.” Whether classic, vintage, or bold, it should feel unmistakably you. Keep it sparkling with regular cleanings and don’t be afraid to stack bands or mix metals, rules are optional, and personality is encouraged. This is the one detail you’ll wear long after the wedding ends, long after the dress is packed away. Let it remind you daily of the promise you made and the love that chose you back. Consider how it fits your lifestyle, your hands, and your future.

The Shoes
Heels, flats, boots, or sneakers, bridal shoes are about confidence, not suffering. Choose comfort for the ceremony and drama for the photos if you want the best of both worlds. Remember: no one sees your shoes more than you do, so they should make you smile every time you glance down. Whether you go classic satin or something playful, your shoes should carry you comfortably from the aisle to the last dance without missing a step.

Check In to Romance
Valentine’s Day doesn’t always need a far-off destination or a perfectly planned getaway. Sometimes, the most meaningful escape is closer than you think, just a few floors above the everyday. A hotel stay transforms Valentine’s Day into an experience that feels intentional, indulgent, and effortlessly romantic.
Walking into a suite sets the tone immediately. The space feels quieter, softer, removed from routine. A room upgrade turns the evening into something even more special: rose petals scattered across crisp white linens, a chilled bottle of wine waiting to be poured, and the sense that this night was made just for the two of you. Add a private jacuzzi, and suddenly time slows down. Warm water, low lighting, and nowhere else to be create the perfect setting to reconnect.
Hotel stays offer romance without effort. No reservations to juggle, no dishes to clean, no timeline to follow. Dress up just because, order dessert twice, linger in the moment. Even the smallest details feel elevated: the hush of carpeted hallways, oversized towels, and the luxury of privacy.
The magic continues into the morning. Complimentary breakfast becomes part of the date, fresh coffee, warm plates, and an easy start to the day. In Fort Wayne, Valentine’s hotel stays offer couples a way to celebrate love without leaving town. Sometimes romance isn’t about where you go, it’s about choosing to stay, together.
