On behalf of the Board of Directors, we extend our sincere gratitude to each of you for your continued dedication to Forsyth Country Club. The strength of our community is a direct result of your unwavering support, active participation, and shared vision for a thriving and welcoming environment for all members and their guests.
Committee Engagement: A cornerstone of our Club’s ongoing success is the extraordinary work performed by our standing Committees: House & Family Activities, Golf & Greens, Pavilion, Racquet Sports, Membership, Finance, and Bylaws. These Committees play a vital and indispensable role in shaping both the short- and long-term financial and operational future of our Club. They serve as the voice of our membership by recommending policies, practices, and forward-thinking enhancements that elevate our Club experience year-round. Please click the icon below to view rosters and 2025 Goals for each of our standing committees. We commend all committee Chairs for their efforts in maintaining a blend of both current and new volunteers.
We are especially pleased to share that this year, a historic ninety-three (93) members expressed an interest in committee service which represents a significant increase from sixty-five (65) in 2024. This speaks volumes about the pride and investment our members feel toward our shared future. The Board is deeply appreciative of this engagement that reflects a profound commitment to our Club’s continued growth and excellence. If you previously served on a committee or are currently serving, we thank you for your commitment.
Master Facilities Plan Status: We also wish to provide an update regarding the development of our Master Facilities Plan, one of several pillars of our current Strategic Plan. Guided by our Facilities Planning Committee and its four (4) sub-committees— Aquatics, Golf/Golf Learning Center, Racquet Sports, and Safety & Security—this important planning initiative is focused on both obligatory (replacement of a sixty-five (65) year old aging pool nearing the end of its useful life, long range Golf Course Maintenance projects, etc.) and aspirational capital needs across our campus.
Informed by the feedback from our most recent two (2) annual membership surveys, along with a robust review of peer club amenities and industry trends, each sub-committee has worked diligently to identify projects that will enhance our facilities, ensure we continue to meet evolving member expectations, and position us to attract new members. As we know, normal attrition averages between 4-6% each year and the ability to draw prospective members is vital to our continued stability and success. The most successful and financially sound clubs are those that prioritize strategic investment in the maintenance, modernization, and enrichment of their physical assets and services—and your Board is committed to use our members’ monetary contributions wisely and efficiently.
The concept phase of this planning process is nearing completion, and the focus will soon shift toward design, the development of project renderings, and capital planning. By early fall, we anticipate sharing preliminary visual representations of the projects under consideration that will provide education regarding each project and a meaningful opportunity for member feedback to help shape our committees’ final recommendations. We remain on schedule to present a comprehensive Master Facilities Plan to the membership by early 2026. The Board is confident that this Plan will reflect the thoughtful input of our members and committees, and serve as a strategic blueprint for Forsyth’s future.
With the extraordinarily capable and enthusiastic leadership of our new General Manager/COO, Mr. Doug Shifflett, we are entering a new and exciting chapter. The months ahead promise to be filled with progress, innovation, and opportunities to enhance the club experience we all value. Thank you once again for your support, engagement, and shared passion for the continued success of Forsyth Country Club. Please feel free to contact me or Mr. Shifflett directly, or any Board member, to provide feedback or discuss your Forsyth experience.

CULINARY
Ihave been asked by so many in the past: “What exactly is Hominy?” ...hominy is made from corn kernels that have been treated by soaking the mature grain in a dilute solution of lye, slaked lime or wood ash - which are all high in alkaline. This process is referred to as nixtamalization. The corrosive nature of the solution loosens the hulls from the kernels, softens the corn (doubling it almost twice the size when cooking) and kills/removes the “germ” which keeps it from sprouting during storage. Nixtamalization (the process) also reduces or eliminates the potential risk of “Pellagra” (consuming untreated corn resulting in a niacin deficiency (vitamin B3). Hominy is used as a side dish, part of a casserole, or dried and ground into grits – fine, medium or coarse grinds. Try it in a classical Pozole (Latin American Soup with chicken or pork) or in this quick side dish recipe:
Fiesta Hominy
2 cans (15.5 ounce each) hominy, white; drained and rinsed * or cook your own dried hominy; like you would dried beans
2 tablespoons butter, unsalted
1⁄2 cup white onions, chopped
1/3 cup red bell peppers, chopped
1/3 cup yellow bell peppers, chopped
2 each jalapeno peppers, minced
4 ounces tasso ham, small dice
1 teaspoons chili powder
1/3 teaspoon paprika to taste to taste kosher salt to taste pure ground peppercorns to taste garlic, minced
In a saucepan, over low heat, sweat onions and peppers in butter until tender. Increase to medium heat, add remaining ingredients and cook uncovered for 5-10 minutes or until heated through, stir occasionally. Serve warm. Yield: 6 servings.
