FROM THE BOARD
Dear Members,
As we head into the peak weeks of summer, the Board of Directors wants to thank you for making our Club such a vibrant community Maintaining the special atmosphere we all enjoy requires shared commitment from everyone including members and staff. It is a collective effort and a large part of what makes Forsyth Country Club truly special.
Investment
Thank you to Matt Jones and his entire agronomy team for the hard work in June as they prepare our golf course for the second half of the year. Our golf course is the one of the best NC has to offer. This intentional effort to preserve and protect one of our largest assets is critical to the success of our club.
Gratitude for Our Leadership Teams
Our ability to deliver a top-tier experience depends heavily on the dedication of our member-led committees and sub-committees. We want to extend our sincere gratitude to our committee chairs and committee members for their careful planning and tireless hard work These volunteers spend countless hours behind the scenes ensuring our facilities and programs run flawlessly.
Adapting to Modern Club Life
The landscape of country club life is constantly evolving. Member expectations are changing rapidly, with a growing desire for more flexible dining options, modern wellness amenities, diverse family programming, and seamless digital scheduling. Backed by the diligent work of our committees, the Board is actively working to balance these modern desires with the classic traditions that define our heritage. As we evolve to meet these new expectations, the foundational pillar of our club remains unchanged: a shared commitment to a premium, respectful community culture.
Upholding Our Traditions and Standards
To successfully navigate these changing times while ensuring an exceptional experience for every family, we must hold ourselves to the highest standards of personal conduct.
Please keep these key behavior expectations in mind:
Respect for Staff: Our team works tirelessly to serve you. Courteous, respectful interaction with all employees is non-negotiable.
Course Etiquette: Repair ball marks, rake bunkers, and maintain a proper pace of play to respect fellow golfers
Dress Code Compliance: Ensure family members and guests adhere to specified attire rules in the clubhouse, dining areas, swimming pool, fitness facility, and sports facilities.
Guest Responsibility: Members are fully responsible for ensuring their guests understand and follow all club rules
We take great pride in the culture of our club. By holding ourselves and each other accountable to these standards, we ensure our community remains an exceptional place to relax, adapt, and socialize.
Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to excellence. We look forward to seeing you around the Club.
Warm regards,
-Will Doss, Club President
FROM THE COO
Summer Momentum and a Team Worth Celebrating
As we move through the heart of summer, I am continually reminded of what makes Forsyth Country Club such a special place. While beautiful facilities and outstanding amenities are important, it is ultimately our people who create the exceptional experiences that define our Club
This summer has brought tremendous momentum across nearly every area of the operation, and I would like to take a moment to recognize the team members whose dedication, professionalism, and passion continue to elevate the member experience.
One area of particular focus for the Club over the past year has been our food and beverage program. Guided by member feedback and a commitment to continuous improvement, we have invested significant time and energy into enhancing both the dining experience and service levels throughout the Club
One of the most exciting successes has been the continued evolution of our dining program. Earlier this year, Director of Culinary Operations, Lance Cook, and Grill Chef de Cuisine, David Marks, introduced a refreshed menu concept designed to blend member favorites with new and innovative offerings. The response from the membership has been overwhelmingly positive. At the same time, Chef Mike Mort continues to deliver an outstanding dining experience in the Fieldhouse, where members consistently enjoy high-quality food before and after their rounds. Together, our culinary team continues to create exceptional dining experiences across the Club Congratulations to Lance, David, Mike, and the entire culinary team for their creativity, hard work, and commitment to excellence.
Equally important to a great dining experience is great service Under the leadership of Assistant General Manager, Zach Crum, and Director of Operations, Kelley Williams, our clubhouse operations team has continued to elevate service standards throughout the Club. Their focus on training, communication, accountability, and member engagement has resulted in noticeable improvements in consistency and execution across our dining outlets and member events. Whether you are dining in the Forsyth Grill, attending a special event, enjoying the pool, or simply visiting the Club for the day, our team is committed to creating warm and welcoming experiences at every touchpoint
Excellence can also be seen across the rest of our campus Director of Health & Wellness, Renate Van Staden, continues to expand wellness and fitness programming, while Director of Agronomy, Matt Jones, and Director of Golf, Chase Adams, along with their respective teams, continue to deliver exceptional golf course conditions and outstanding golf experiences Family Activities Director, Meredith Koeval, Assistant Director, Casey Gentry, and the Family Activities Team have created a memorable summer for our youngest members and families, while Director of Racquet Sports, Adam Thomson, and his team continue to see tremendous participation in tennis and pickleball programming The success of these programs reflects the dedication, professionalism, and passion of our entire staff.
Most importantly, I would like to thank every member of our team From the golf course and fitness center to housekeeping, maintenance, aquatics, administration, golf operations, food and beverage, and member services, our employees work tirelessly each day to deliver experiences that exceed expectations Their commitment to hospitality and service is what makes Forsyth Country Club exceptional.
As we look ahead to the remainder of the summer and the exciting opportunities before us, I am incredibly proud of what our team has accomplished and grateful for the continued support of our membership. Your enthusiasm, participation, and engagement in Club activities are what bring our facilities to life and help make Forsyth such a vibrant and welcoming community Together, we are building on the traditions that make Forsyth special while continually enhancing the member experience for future generations.
Thank you for your support, and I look forward to seeing you around the Club
A Journey of Growth and Gratitude: Reflecting on Six Years at Forsyth
As I sit down to write this, I am struck by the realization that I am celebrating my sixth anniversary at Forsyth Country Club this August. What began as a journey rooted in the highenergy, fast-paced world of Food & Beverage has evolved into a rewarding career dedicated to the stewardship of this exceptional community.
Foundations in Service
My first years here were defined by daily interactions with you, our members. Whether it was coordinating a busy dinner service in the Forsyth Grill or managing the details and expectations of a family milestone, those early days in Food & Beverage laid the foundation for my success at Forsyth. It was in those moments that I learned the true heartbeat of Forsyth: it isn’t just about the amenities, but the relationships and the "Club feel" that make this place home. These experiences taught me that exceptional service and honoring both Club and family traditions are at the core of what we do.
Evolution of Leadership
Over the past six years, my role has evolved from tactical execution to strategic leadership. Today, I focus the majority of my time on governance, member programming, and administrative excellence. This growth has given me the opportunity to support the Club’s mission from a broader perspective:
Strategic Oversight: Balancing high-level financial health with tangible "on-the-ground" operational progress, ensuring our Operational Excellence goals are met.
Member Satisfaction: Analyzing detailed feedback to bridge the gap between service excellence and perceived member value, ensuring member expectations are met on a consistent basis.
Leadership Development: A vital part of my growth has been fostering the next generation of Club leaders. By empowering our team to build their own meaningful relationships with the membership, we ensure that Forsyth’s culture of excellence remains sustainable for years to come.
Leadership Transition: It has been a privilege to work alongside our dedicated department heads like Director of Culinary Operations, Lance Cook and Director of Operations, Kelley Williams—to foster meaningful connections within our community. Thank you to those that participated in our recent Club Conversation Series!
From my start six years ago to my current role today, the goal has remained simple: to reflect the warmth and tradition of Forsyth while strengthening the bonds that make our Club exceptional. Thank you for being a part of this journey. I look forward to seeing you at the Club soon!
With gratitude,
- Zachary Crum, CCM Assistant General Manager
CLUBHOUSE OPERATIONS
Summer is upon us, and it has been wonderful watching the pool come alive with a new vibrancy. With school out for the summer, it has been especially rewarding to see children enjoying time with friends, making memories, and taking full advantage of all the Club has to offer.
The Pavilion has been thriving this season, supported by a strong team and an enhanced level of service. I am incredibly proud of the effort and dedication our staff continues to demonstrate each day.
I would like to extend a special welcome and thank you to Rafael Bonilla for joining our team as Interim Food & Beverage Manager. Rafael has been a tremendous addition, and we are already seeing the positive impact of his leadership and expertise. He will be part of the FCC family through the end of the year and will have the opportunity to support and develop each of our food and beverage outlets as we continue to elevate the member experience.
I would also like to recognize the rest of our leadership team for stepping up during a period of transition while Jennifer and Chelsey recover from their recent surgeries. As they focus on healing, Gian and Jaime have done an outstanding job leading Grill operations, while Michael and Nicki have done a fantastic job managing the Pool operation. Their commitment, flexibility, and leadership have been instrumental in maintaining the level of service our members expect and deserve.
One of our ongoing priorities is investing in the growth and development of our leadership team as we continue striving for excellence across all areas of the Club. Seeing our team members rise to new challenges and grow in their roles has been incredibly rewarding.
As always, I welcome your feedback both positive and constructive. Your comments help us celebrate successes, recognize outstanding team members, and identify opportunities for continued improvement. Every piece of feedback is valuable and helps us provide the exceptional experiences our members deserve.
Thank you for your continued support, and I look forward to seeing you around the Club this summer!
Warm regards,
- Kelley J. Williams, CCM Director of Operations

Deep Dive Into Stone Fruit Season
As we move into peak summer, you’ll start seeing a broader range of stone fruits making their way onto our menus. Some will be familiar, and others that may sound a bit more like they belong in a lab than on a plate: pluots, apriums, and interspecific plums.
Let’s break down what makes these fruits so special:
What Exactly Are Pluots and Apriums?
Both pluots and apriums are the result of controlled hybridization within the genus Prunus - specifically between plums (Prunus salicina) and apricots (Prunus armeniaca). These are not GMOs, but rather interspecific hybrids, achieved through traditional cross-pollination and selective breeding over multiple generations
Pluots: Typically ~75% plum / 25% apricot
Apriums: Typically 75% apricot / 25% plum
This ratio isn’t just trivia - it directly affects texture, sugar concentration, acidity, and aromatic compounds.
Why Chefs Love Them (The Science Part)
From a culinary standpoint, these fruits are fascinating because of how they express balance at a molecular level:
Sugar Accumulation (Brix Levels) - Pluots are known for having exceptionally high Brix readings (a measure of dissolved sugars), often surpassing standard plums. This means deeper sweetness, more concentrated flavor, better caramelization potential when cooked
Acidity & pH Balance - while sweeter, pluots maintain enough malic acid (the same dominant acid in apples) to prevent the fruit from feeling flat. That balance between sugar and acid is what creates: that “juicy pop” on first bite, a clean finish on the palate, natural compatibility with fatty foods (think pork belly, duck, cheese).
Volatile Aromatics - Apriums, in particular, are prized for their elevated levels of aromatic esters and lactones, compounds responsible for: floral notes, honeyed aromas, that unmistakable “apricot perfume”. These volatile compounds are highly sensitive to temperature, which is why you’ll often see us serve these fruits: lightly chilled (not cold), or gently warmed to amplify aroma release.
One of the biggest differences you’ll notice is cell structure and firmness
Pluots - dense, juicy, almost “snap-like” bite / Apriums - softer, more delicate flesh. This gives us flexibility in the kitchen: slicing clean crudo-style applications, grilling without collapse, or puréeing into intensely flavored sauces.
On the plate:
Seafood - bright, acidic contrasts to raw or lightly cured fish
Pork and duck - cutting richness while enhancing sweetness
Composed salads - pairing with bitter greens and fresh herbs
Reductions and gastriques - leveraging their natural sugar structure
Desserts - where their complexity outperforms traditional stone fruit
What makes pluots and apriums truly exciting isn’t just that they’re hybrids, it’s that they represent a thoughtful intersection of agriculture, science, and flavor development They are designed - over years, even decades - to deliver: higher sugar without loss of acidity, more intense aromatics, better texture for both raw and cooked applications.
In short: they’re built for chefs.

COURSE
I hope everyone is enjoying a great start to summer with longer, sunnier days and school out on break. The heat is here and is forecasted to remain in the upper 90s for the next few weeks, please make sure you are staying hydrated while on the golf course.
As we continue to heat up, we are still down 8-9 inches of rainfall for our yearly average through May. Our staff has worked diligently to continue to irrigate and hand water droughty areas across the property in combination with irrigation programs while in the absence of rain.
Summer Maintenance Week: June 8-12
The golf course and practice facilities were closed for our annual summer maintenance week. During this time, our staff completed various essential agronomic practices to enhance playing conditions, maintain healthy turf and ensure long term turf sustainability. Here’s a recap on the work completed:
Greens:
Core Aerification - using 5/8” tines at 3.5” depth on 2” forward spacing
DryJect Injection - of over 30 tons of sand using high pressure water based injection system that creates aeration holes through the root zone layer while simultaneously filling the holes with sand. We implemented a new “Maximus” injection which inject 5-7” deeper than traditional aerification can achieve.
Topdressing - an additional 60 tons of sand which was brushed into aerification holes
Verticutting - help incorporate sand while reducing thatch and grain
Rolling - to help reestablish firmness
Fertilizer - application of granular fertilizer to help with plant nu
Fairways, Approaches, Tees:
500 tons of sand applied and worked into the turf
Core aerification using 5/8” tines
Dragging of all cores and steel mats to break up and incorporate
Tee Leveling and Drainage Improvements:
We welcomed Turf Rehab back on property this year to laser-level tees, re-grass and address several drainage issues on approaches, fairways and tee complexes. These improvements were much needed to help address historically wet areas and improve overall playability throughout the golf course.
Tee Leveling:
#3 Blue tee and white tee
Sox Erosion Control:
Sox Erosion Control was installed on #14 pond bank to address erosion control issues. Sox systems have ability to repair eroding pond banks through its patented technical mesh and anchoring system, backfilled with 80/20 greens mix with sod installed.
Sox Erosion installation on #14 pond bank
Drainage:
Given the success of last year’s XGD drainage on property, we added some additional drainage on selected approaches, tee complexes and fairways. This process works extremely well at lowering the subsurface water table and flushing out excess gravitational water while leaving minimal to no cleanup work afterwards. A 2 inch perforated drainage pipe with micro slits are installed in each trench and backfilled with 80/20 greens mix.

Forsyth CC has a strong history of providing volunteers and attending this week-long event at the Wake Forest tennis courts. Let’s keep that tradition going. See you out there!
