Club News & Reminders Club Hours for Labor Day (Monday, September 6th) In observation of Labor Day weekend, all club facilities will be open on Monday, September 6th. A la carte dinner service will not be available on this day, however, a la carte lunch service will be offered. For dinner, members will have the buffet on the lower Patio available. The Club will operate under the following hours of operation:

Adult Pool Hours Extended 9/8 - 9/12 The Adult Pool will remain open after Labor Day from Wednesday, September 8th through Sunday, September 12th from 10:00 am - 5:00 pm. Those wishing to utilize the Adult Pool (ages 18+) will need to enter from the back gate located next to the Practice Range. Towels will be available; however, those wishing to order food will need to call the Club to place a carryout order from the a la carte menu as the Cabana and Café will not be staffed.
Café Closed after Labor Day Please note that following Monday, September 6th, the Café will close for the remainder of the year. Dutch’s Hut will remain open throughout the fall for utilization.
It’s a Girl! Congratulation to our Executive Chef, Craig Peterson and his wife Niki, on the arrival of their daughter, Ava James on August 8th at 3:08 pm. She weighed 6 lbs, 11 ounces and was 20 inches long at birth. Ava is also welcomed by her big sister, Mickayla.

Dear Forest Hills Members, We hope this finds you safe and well. The summer is quickly coming to an end and the fall season will soon be upon us. In membership, the Club remains full, and our members expect and deserve the best in facilities, programs, and services. The reality is that our Club activity is at the highest level ever seen at the Club on a day-to-day basis. Golf rounds remain at record highs, and food and beverage dining has been what we had hoped for prior to the renovations and onset of Covid-19. This is what we all desired after spending $4M on renovating the Club and making the facilities outstanding. Despite the resource challenges we’ve faced throughout the pandemic, our team continues to work hard to serve the membership and offer great opportunities to use your Club. Various factors and forces may extend our resource challenges, however, here at the Club our goal is to hold tight and work hard to maintain our services until we hear what that outcome will be. In the meantime, the staff and I will continue to meet to build strategies and look at how we operate the Club so that in the event this does come to fruition, we have a plan in place to move ahead. We will keep you posted. Regarding our facilities, here are the priorities that we are working on:
Racquet Facilities: ● ● ● ● ●
Pouring a concrete “viewing” pad and walkways at the Pickleball Courts. Our fence is still on target for installation at the end of September. Finalize the landscaping and sod work at Pickleball Courts. Finish asphalt parking lot at Tennis/Pickleball. Install the handrails on the stairs to the Tennis Courts.

New banquet chairs were shipped some time ago from Asia. Delivery date is suspect as barges sit in ports with nobody to unload. New carpet for the Clubhouse dining areas and hallways has been ordered and the target install date is before the holidays, hopefully. Temporary carpet has been installed in hallways of the main Clubhouse. We have ordered and waiting on parts for our media consoles for our fitness center equipment, which was damaged by the lightning strike.

We will be replacing the mats on the driving range in the off season. Scott has sought assistance from contract labor and contractors to assist with projects while he and his staff work tireless hours trying to keep up on the course maintenance. We have ordered and waiting on parts for the lightning detection system that was also damaged by the Clubs lightning strike.

The Board of Directors completed their 2021 Strategic Planning Board retreat on Thursday August 19, 2021. The Board reviewed the Long-Range Plan that has been worked on for many months by the Long-Range Planning Committee chaired by Mr. Charles Nance. The Committee completed a comprehensive and prioritized list of projects that will need to be completed in the short term and long term planning for the Club. One of the key priorities that came out of the process is the need to repair, reinforce and protect the golf course from the erosion issues that have been exacerbated over the last few years due to the torrents of rain we have experienced. The golf course takes on an enormous amount of water from the miles of watershed that comes from the community and onto the golf course. In some areas, the situation has become dire.

Member Spotlight Addy Surber Places First at Gateway PGA Event Congratulations to Addy Surber on her first place finish in the season-ending two-day Gateway PGA Junior Tour Final Championship on August 2nd-3rd at WingHaven Country Club. She placed first in the "Overall Girls" division and finished +3 for 36 holes and shot one under par on Tuesday, August 3rd (71, -1). Way to go, Addy!
Kreikemeier Performs at USGA Amateur Tournament Congratulations to Max Kreikemeier, on his performance at the 121st USGA Amateur at Oakmont Country Club during the second week of August. Kreikemeier shot an impressive 68 (-2) in the first round followed by a 71 in the second round. He was one of 64 out of 312 to advance to match play.

Three Senior Men’s Association events have been held since our last newsletter. The “Red Tees” event was won by Tom Faerber with a net score of -8, followed by four players at -4. A tie-breaker resulted in Jim “Doc” Schneider finishing in second place and Jeff Pohl in third.
The second event was the “Three Clubs in the Bag” contest. Mark Hawley’s 70 net score took first place, followed by Pat Hopkins at net 71 and Charles Nance at net 72. The third event was the 36-hole Senior Club Championship tournament, played over two Wednesdays with both gross and net winners in both Senior and Super Senior Divisions. In the Senior Gross Score Division, Terry Schad’s gross 144 score took first place, while Ron Miles (gross 152) garnered second. In the Super Senior Gross Score Division, John Luby’s gross 183 won first place, while Alex Nowicki (gross 184) finished second. The Senior Net Score Division winner was Terry Schad with a net score of 142, with Jim Moffit finishing second (net 144). In the Super Senior Net Score Division, Jim Harf took first place with a net score of 149, while Tom Faerber’s net 153 took second place.

We will not meet in January, so our first meeting of the new year will be on February 9, 2022. Anne has suggested that we read The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict (352 pp) and I think it would be a great way to start the new year. We have read her books before and enjoyed them. This is the story of the J.P. Morgan's personal librarian, Belle da Costa Greene, a Black woman who had to hide her true identity. Another book we may want to look at in the new year is The Last Thing He Told Me by Laura Dave, a mystery that has received tremendous praise. Also coming out in the fall is The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles. He is an exceptional story teller and I am planning on read this over Christmas. Even though everyone loved A Gentleman in Moscow, this plot sounds like a redux of This Tender Land so I am wary of suggesting it. In closing, have a great Labor Day weekend! I cannot believe that autumn is upon us...

Yes, we made it to the Club for the August Evening Book Club meeting and no one melted in the parking lot as we approached the air-conditioned Club. There were a few close calls, but wine, cocktails and water were waiting for us. Here is to hoping for cooler weather as we approach our September meeting. It’s just a good excuse to stay inside and read. In September we will be discussing Code Girls by Lisa Mundy. In October, we will be discussing The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. Unfortunately, Meadowbrook won this year. We will have a great comeback next year. We are beginning our last events for last 7 weeks of official play. Hope you can come join us. The Club has engaged Midwest Testing to assist in the engineering of plans to correct these issues. Stock and Associates are working closely with the engineers as the lead hydrologist on the project. We have received bids regarding the creek work and are interviewing vendors as we develop a final construction plan. The Club’s Finance Committee, chaired by Mr. Zac Smith, has built a cash management policy and in evaluating our comprehensive Capital Reserves and Maintenance Budget, along with a Long-Range Planning budget, will direct the Board regarding potential costs and funding mechanisms for any approved Long-Range Plans. More communications will be forthcoming as the Club gathers data and builds a cost benefit plan.
In closing, the staff and I, along with our Club Committees and Board of Directors continue to work in unison to plan for the future of Forest Hills Country Club so that we continue to build towards being the premiere Family County Club in St. Louis. Again, we can’t thank our members and your families enough for all of your continued support during these difficult times. The staff and I are committed to seeking ways to turn lemons into lemonade by being proactive in our planning. May God bless you and your families as well as our great country that continues to face challenges. We will persevere.
