Aswemoveintotheheartoftheseason,thereisagreatdealofactivityacrosstheClub, both in day-to-day operations and in the behind-the-scenes planning that ensures the long-term strength of our facilities and overall member experience. While many of the updates below reflect current projects and seasonal preparations, they also tie into a broaderandimportanttheme:thoughtful,ongoinginvestmentintheClub’sfuture.
As many of you are aware, the driving range net sustained damage during recent high winds We have since filed an insurance claim, and the adjuster has completed their review, with the claim now being processed. The replacement net is expected to be deliveredaroundMay8,andinstallationplansarealreadyunderway.
Inconjunctionwiththereplacement,wearemakingimprovementstothestructurebyupgradingtostrongerpoles andaddingadditionalsupporttobetterwithstandfutureconditions Whilethegrassteeisatastagewhereitcould beopened,wehaveelectedtokeeppracticeonmatstemporarily,asopeningtheteewouldplaceplayerssignificantly closertothecompromisednet.Thisdecisionprioritizessafetywhileensuringthelong-termqualityofthepractice facility.
On the golf course, you may have noticed a significant amount of sand being delivered in recent weeks This is in preparationfortheValleyCourseBetterBillyBunkerproject,whichisscheduledtobegininearlyMay.Tomanage costsresponsibly,materialswereorderedinadvancetoavoidfuelsurchargesandpotentialpriceincreases.
WealsorecentlycompletedworkontheClub’sirrigationwell,includingagroutpluggingprojectandreplacementof pumpingequipment.Thegroutplugwasinstalledasadiagnosticmeasuretodeterminewhetherlower-depthwater intrusionwascontributingtowaterqualityconcerns.Followingthatwork,testingindicatedelevatedchloridelevels remainpresent.Basedonthecontractor’sanalysis,thissuggeststhesourceisnotfromdeeperwithinthewellbut rather related to broader environmental conditions, specifically ongoing regional drought, which has reduced freshwaterrechargeintheaquiferandisresultinginhigherconcentrationsofdissolvedsolidsinthewatersupply. Whilecurrentlevelsarenotanimmediateconcernforcourseconditions,wewillcontinuetomonitorthewellclosely andareevaluatinglong-termsolutionstomaintainoptimalirrigationqualityovertime
Around the Club, progress continues with enhancements such as the Eagle’s View gable logo, which has received approvalfromtheClarksonValleyPlanning&ZoningCommitteeandwillmovetotheBoardofAldermenforfinal considerationinearlyMay.Whileprojectslikethismayseemincremental,theyarepartofalarger,ongoingeffortto enhancetheoverallclubenvironmentandmemberexperience
In food and beverage, we are excited to see strong engagementinnewofferings.OurfirstChef’sTable event filled almost immediately, and we look forward to offering more of these experiences throughout the year. A planting class with Pam Sparks, our horticulturist, has also been scheduled forMay30,withlimitedavailability.
As we prepare for the season, we are refining operations at the Cabana and Café to improve consistency and service This year, the Cabana menu will be produced exclusively from the main kitchen, and the Café will transition to a fast-casual concept. As part of this change, the Café menu, which was previouslyavailabletoorderfromtheCabana,willno longer be offered at that location. This adjustment allowsustostreamlineoperationsanddeliveramore consistentandtimelydiningexperience Toensurewe continuetoaccommodatefamilies,theCabanamenu will now include select children’s offerings that were previouslyonlyavailablethroughtheCafé

We are pleased to welcome Amanda Scoggin, our new Assistant General Manager, who will join us on May 1. You will find more information about her below, and we are excited to have her as part of the team. As we head into the busy season, we currently have more than 100 additional team members onboarded, with most seasonal positions filled. A few roles remain open, particularly within grounds and clubhouse service, and hiring efforts are ongoing.
Seasonal preparations are well underway across the property. The pool is currently being filled and prepared. At the same time, we are completing onboarding and training, conducting performance reviews, and ensuring all areas of the Club are ready for the season ahead.
All of these efforts, from replacing infrastructure and improving course conditions to refining service delivery and enhancing amenities, reflect a larger responsibility we share as a club. Private clubs are strongest when they take a long-term view. Maintaining and improving facilities is not a one-time effort, but an ongoing process that ensures the club remains vibrant, competitive, and enjoyable for years to come. As members, you are not just participants in the club, but stewards of its future. Thoughtful, consistent investment allows us to protect what we have today while continuing to evolve to meet the expectations of tomorrow’s membership. Our focus remains on balancing exceptional day-to-day experiences with responsible long-term planning, ensuring the club continues to be a place we are all proud of, both now and well into the future.

Welcome Amanda Scoggin
We are thrilled to welcome Amanda Scoggin as our new Assistant General Manager!
A Kentucky native, Amanda has most recently spent a year and a half in Atlantic Beach, Florida, as Atlantic Beach CC’s Assistant Clubhouse Manager, assisting in reopening the Clubhouse after a two-year renovation. Before that, Amanda spent a year in Oregon learning the intricacies of the wine business at Audeant Winery while also serving as a Sommelier at the Allison Inn & Spa. Prior to her experience in Oregon, Amanda called St Louis home, working in the Club industry for 15 years. She served in progressive leadership roles, including Clubhouse Manager at Norwood Hills Country Club, where she oversaw the execution of the first three years of a PGA Champions Tour event. Prior to Norwood Hills, Amanda served in multiple roles in her 13 years at Bellerive Country Club. Outside of work, Amanda enjoys going out to eat, cooking, reading, and going to see live music.
Forest Hills Country Club extends its deepest condolences to the family of longtime former member Joseph Stephans, who passed away on March 29, 2026, at the age of 89.
Joseph was the beloved husband of Jane Stephans, who preceded him in death on May 21, 2025. He is survived by his nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
Joseph proudly served as an officer in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Lieutenant (JG). Following his military service, he became a certified public accountant and was a founding member of Boyd, Franz & Stephans CPAs.
A graveside service will be held on May 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Cemetery (5239 W. Florissant Ave., St. Louis, MO 63115).

OneofthemostimportantresponsibilitieswehaveasstewardsofForestHillsCountryClub istothoughtfullyplanforthefutureofourClub.Eachyear,theLong-RangePlanning Committee(LRPC)undertakesacomprehensivereviewofourfacilitiesandamenitiesand submitsaprioritizedlistofrecommendedinvestmentstotheBoard.Thisworkservesasthe foundationforhowweapproachimprovementsoverthenextfivetotenyears.
FollowingtheLRPC’smostrecentreview,fourprimaryprioritieshavebeenidentified: 1.MaintenanceFacility2.IndoorDiningAreas3.PoolLockerRooms4.Simulator Capabilities/EntertainmentArea
AtthetopofthelistaretheMaintenanceFacilityandIndoorDiningprojects.Botharealreadyinplanningstages,with effortsunderwaytobetterdefinethescopeandunderstandassociatedcosts.Theseprojectsareessentialtosupporting boththeoperationalexcellencebehindthescenesandtheoverallmemberexperienceattheClub.
ForthePoolLockerRoomsandtheadditionofsimulatorcapabilities/entertainmentspace,wewillbeginpreliminary workinthenearfuturetoevaluatefeasibilityanddevelopinitialconcepts,ifappropriate.Theseprojectsrepresent excitingopportunitiestofurtherenhancehowmembersandfamiliesenjoytheClub.Keepinmind,theseare recommendationsforthenext5-10years,socurbyourenthusiasm.Otherprioritiesmayemergeovertheyears.
Regardingindoordiningareas,theHouseCommitteewillberevisitingtheproject.Basedonthefeedbackgatheredin thepost-proposalsurvey,costwastheprimaryfactorintheproposalnotmovingforward.Withthatinmind,the committeewilldevelopmultipleoptionsatsignificantlylowerpricepoints,whilealsoaddressingaesthetic considerationsthatwereraisedduringproposaldiscussions.Thegoalistopresentthoughtful,flexibleapproaches thatbetterreflectmemberpriorities.
Inadditiontotheselargerinitiatives,severalsmallerpotentialimprovementshavebeenidentified,including bathroomfacilitiesattheadultpoolandatthewaterstationnearHole#5ontheChampionshipCourse.
Asareminder,movingfromconcepttoaformalproposalisadeliberateprocess.Projectsofthisscalerequire coordinationacrossmultiplecommittees,aswellasinputfromengineers,architects,andotherconsultants.Given this,itisunlikelythatanyformalproposalforanyoftheseprojectswillbepresentedwithinthiscalendaryear.As planstakeshape,wearecommittedtoengagingmembersthroughfocusgroupsandsurveystoensureyourvoicesare heardandreflectedintheoutcome.
Thereremainssignificantworkaheadbeforefundingoptionscanbeappropriatelyevaluatedanddiscussed.Ourfocus rightnowisonbuildingwell-defined,member-informedplans.
Atitscore,thisprocessisaboutensuringForestHillscontinuestoevolveinawaythatmaintainsourcompetitiveness whiledeliveringexceptionalmemberexperiences.Thatcommitmentextendsbeyondfacilities.Overthepasttwo years,wehaveplacedastrongemphasisoncultureandservicetrainingacrosstheClub.Whilewe’veseenmeaningful progress,wewillcontinuetobuildonthismomentum—particularlywithinourdiningvenues—toensurea consistentlyhighlevelofservice.
Improvingmemberexperiencesisnotaone-timeeffort—itisongoing,intentional,andcentraltoeverythingwedo. Asweheadintothepeaksummermonths,IlookforwardtoseeingyouaroundtheClub,onthecourse,atthepool,on thecourts,andinourdiningvenuesenjoyingallthatmakesForestHillssuchaspecialplace.

Guests, including social members, shall be registered with the Golf-Shop and shall be accompanied by a golfing member, spouse or dependent children of a member at all times
Aquatics
Members must register with the pool desk when entering the Aquatic Center and also register any guests who are non-members
Guests and social members are not permitted to use the driving range unless they are warming up before a round of golf
Family guest rates apply only to parents, children over the age of 30 and grandchildren of members.
Anyone operating any golf cart on club property must have a valid driver’s license.
Players and guests must check in at the Golf Shop prior to playing either course

Fitness
Dependents must be at least 16 years old to enter or use the Fitness Center. Dependent children between the ages of 14 and 15 may utilize the Club’s Fitness Center if accompanied by a parent
Members are responsible for the conduct of their family and ests. Guests must be companied on Club premises. food and drink must be rchased through the Club. Golf Course Update by Scott Reynolds, GCS
DearForestHillsCountryClubMembers,
Beginning in May, we will start restoration of the Valley Course bunkers. This project will incorporate the Better Billy Bunker System, creating a consistent construction method across allbunkersonthecourseoncecompleted.
As part of the planning process, a comprehensive bunker evaluation was conducted in March by me, Tom McKittrick (Grounds Chair), Steve Sigman (Board Chair), Jimmy Bals, and JT Tierney. Each bunker was reviewed with a focus on maintenance demands, potential conversionfromsandtograssbunkers,andopportunitiesforeliminationorredesign.
Following this assessment, our recommendations were shared with Golf Course Architect Art Schaupeter, who previously worked alongside Keith Foster during the Valley Course renovation in 1996. After Art’s review and approval, the proposed changes were presented to the Grounds Committee, which approved them at the April 14 meeting The planwassubsequentlyapprovedbyboththeLRPCommitteeandtheBoardofDirectors.
Planned Valley Course Bunker Modifications
The back-left bunker will be converted to a grass bunker
The remaining two bunkers will be combined into one larger bunker.
The right bunker will be expanded to wrap slightly around the back of the green.
Approaches
The second fairway bunker will be removed to improve cart access to the path.
The third and fourth bunkers will be combined into a single bunker.
Last year, we began an effort to remove Bermuda grass from the Championship back nine approaches. Because Bermuda can be aggressive and difficult to control, some areas required new sod. We will continue treating the back nine this season to keep that progress moving forward.
This year, we’re expanding that program to the front nine approaches. As we work through this process, some areas may need minor to moderate sodding depending on how much Bermuda is present.
On April 20th, we aerified the approaches and added a compost soil amendment—something we also did last spring This helped improve turf health coming out of winter, and we’re expecting similar benefits again this year.
Hole #2
We’ll also be slightly increasing fertility and applying gypsum throughout the season. These steps will help relieve soil compaction and provide important nutrients to support healthy turf, especially our Zoysia grass.
Finally, you may notice work completed on the approach to Championship Hole #13 green. This area required more extensive improvement, including drainage installation, soil preparation, and new sod using a newer Bluegrass variety that has been performing very well in other areas of the course
You may notice the grass is a bit taller than usual right now. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll gradually bring it down to its normal playing height.
Lake Fountain
Our lake fountain is currently being repaired after experiencing the same issue as last year. We understand the frustration this causes and share that sentiment. The issue has been addressed with the distributor, and we’ve been assured that the component responsible has been redesigned to prevent future failures. We are currently awaiting delivery of the new part and will have it installed as soon as it arrives.
Sod Repairs
Over the past two weeks, we’ve been making sod repairs in areas that have been bare for an extended period. The rain has broken our momentum. As conditions dry out, we will continue preparing additional areas and completing further sodding
We did experience a setback with a recent pallet of sod delivered last week. It appears the sod was harvested the day prior and became overheated while stacked, which led to some decline shortly after installation. While these areas are currently unsightly, we are already seeing signs of new green growth and expect them to recover.

First, it is important to note that e-scooters, e-bikes, and personal golf carts are not permitted on the golf course at any time. These activities present safety and liability concernsandcaninterferewiththeenjoymentofthoseplayingthegame.Thegolfcourseisfor playinggolfonly.Yourcooperationinadheringtothisclubpolicyextendstoyourchildren,so pleasemakeitcleartothemaswell.

Properly repairing ball marks is one of the simplest yet most impactful ways each member can contribute. Taking a few extra seconds to fix your ball mark—and an additional one nearby—goes a long way in maintaining the smooth, consistent putting surfaces we all enjoy. Premium greens are only possible when everyone does their part.
As we continue to develop our junior golf program, we are encouraged by the interest and involvement of both adults and juniors. For those interested in becoming a paid scorer for the program, we will be holding junior golf scorer meetings at 1:00 PM on May 3, 1:00 PM on May 9, and 3:00 PM on May 31. All scorers must attend one of these sessions to be on our list for scoring. For parents who are not familiar with the game, this 45-minute overview will assist in your knowledge of the game and ensure you are comfortable scoring.
With the school year ending very soon and spring underway, the golf calendar quickly fills with leagues and events. We encourage all members to regularly check ForeTees for the most up-to-date information on tee times, event schedules, and sign-ups.

With the pool opening just a few short weeks away, Caretaker, Unaccompanied Pool Privilege Card, & Grandchild summer forms are now available and should be turned in prior to the start of the pool season.
Caretaker Applications should be filled out by members wishing to grant pool and Café access to their children’s caretaker for the summer. Caretakers must be at least 16 years old and must be accompanied by the dependent child(ren). The member assumes all responsibilities for the caretaker’s actions as well as any charges incurred. The annual fee for the guest card is $75, which you’ll receive after your application is turned in and approved.
Parents who drop children between the ages of eleven (11) and fourteen (14) at the pool area are required to complete an annual Unaccompanied Pool Privilege Card. This procedure has two main objectives. First, to ensure that in the case of emergencies, the Club staff is able to properly identify the child as well as contact the member in a timely fashion. Secondly, when children are dropped at the pool area without direct parental supervision, the staff is called upon to serve in this function, which necessitates the need for additional resources
All applicable forms must be completed each year. If you filled out a form last year, you must resubmit for the 2026 season. Forms are available on our website, www.foresthillscc.net, under the ‘Swimming’ tab.
Grandchild Summer Pass- New for Summer 2026, the Grandchild Summer Pass gives members’ grandchildren (ages 10 and under) unlimited weekday access to the Family Pool for just $75. Designed with our families in mind, this pass offers a flexible, affordable way for grandparents to enjoy quality pool time with their grandchildren all summer long.

Well, our season was supposed to start on March 11th. That didn’t happen. We were able, finally, to get our Opening ThreeMan Shamble underway on April 8th. We had a sunny, Spring day and a full field. This year, the senior treasury paid for four places, and the kitchen served us a tasty spread for lunch. Steve Seevers, Kirk Briden, and Fred Weber took top honors Pat Wenstrup/Brad Rosencrans/Ken Jeffries, Greg McMurtrey/Roger Van Horn/Charles Nance, and Tom Dean/Larry Giglio/John de Greck also cashed.
“Most Fairways Hit” was our second event. The weather was overcast, and we needed rain gear for a few holes, but we managed to get the round completed. Since reigning three-time “Most Fairways Hit” champion Tom Faerber has retired, the field was wide open. Honors this year went to John Sherman (11 fairways hit), John de Greck (10), Charles Nance (9), Jim McLaren (9), Dave Ganz (9), and Scott MacDoniels (9).
Our first ever skins game was up next. The weather was sunny and mild, but skins were hard to come by. Jeff Watson started with an eagle on number one and followed with a double eagle on number eight, and went home with two skins. Ken Jeffries and Gary Wimberly each netted one skin.
May gets busy. We have our Senior President’s Cup qualifier, our Two-Man Match play qualifier, and our Senior Member Guest event.
It takes considerable pressure to make a penalty stroke adhere to a scorecard.

April showers will give way to May flowers, and on Wednesday, May 13, the Morning Book Club will review the popular best-seller Theo of Golden by Allen Levi. On June 10 , we will discuss The Life Impossible by Matt Haig, who also wrote The Midnight Library; and, on July 8, The Correspondent by Virginia Evans will be the Book-of-the-Day.
