Dear Forest Hills Country Club Members,

As we close out our fiscal year and look ahead to the start of April, March serves as both a reflection point and a reset. It has been a meaningful year for our Club, marked by thoughtful dialogue, important decisions, and continued progress across many areas of the operation.

Thank you again for your participation in the recent vote regarding the proposed 2026 Capital Investment Project. While the proposal did not receive the required majority for approval, the engagement and stewardship demonstrated throughout the process reflect the strength of our member-owned Club.

Although the full assessment did not pass, several of the projects included in that proposal address critical infrastructure needs. In accordance with our Bylaws, which authorize the Board of Directors to levy up to 10% of aggregate annual dues in a fiscal year when necessary to operate, maintain, or improve the Club, the Board of Directors approved the 10% levy to allow us to move forward with priority items.

The levy will appear on your March statement. These funds will support the following projects in priority order:

HVAC system upgrades

Riprap grouting in creek areas to prevent erosion

Golf course bridge replacements

Valley Course bunker renovation with the Better Billy Bunker system

This approach ensures we address essential operational and infrastructure needs responsibly and without delay. We understand that any additional financial commitment deserves transparency and clarity, and we remain committed to communicating openly as these projects progress.

March marks the end of our fiscal year. The Board of Directors has approved the operating budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which continues to prioritize consistent delivery of the expected member experience. The capital budget, however, remains under review. The Finance Committee, Board of Directors and management team will spend the next month carefully evaluating capital priorities, including current infrastructure needs and long-range planning considerations. We will share additional details once that review process is complete.

Our Annual Meeting, scheduled for March 26th at 6:00 pm, will include a comprehensive recap of the year and a look ahead. We encourage all members to attend and remain engaged in shaping the future of the Club.

Beyond our broader capital planning, we are also currently evaluating specific challenges surrounding our irrigation well. As many of you know, our deep irrigation well located between Championship Holes #2 and #3 is a critical component of maintaining course conditions. In early December, when preparing to collect a routine water sample, the well did not start. After evaluation by our contractor, it was confirmed that the motor had failed and has since been removed.

This situation aligned with a broader proactive plan already in place. Over the past several years, water quality testing has shown gradual changes, prompting a full camera inspection of the 725-foot well shaft, including review of the concrete plug installed approximately 20 years ago to prevent lower, harsher water from migrating upward. Our contractor has now reviewed the inspection footage and provided their recommendation. Repairs to the well will begin in the coming weeks. We will continue to keep the membership updated as work progresses and as we move toward restoring full functionality.

Ensuring consistent irrigation quality is essential to the long-term health and playability of our golf courses, and we appreciate your patience as we complete this important work. As we address these essential grounds items, our team is simultaneously focused on preparing the courses for the upcoming season, including aerification. This year, the aerification schedule is:

Valley Course Aerification: Monday, March 16

Championship Course Aerification: Tuesday, March 24 and Wednesday, March 25 (Please note the Championship Course will be closed both days.)

We appreciate your understanding as these essential agronomic practices position the course for strong playing conditions throughout the season.

While work continues on the grounds, our Food & Beverage team is equally focused on revitalizing the indoor member experience. Our team continues to bring energy and creativity to the Club:

A new dessert program has launched in the dining room as we work to elevate our offerings.

Easter weekend details are being finalized.

Spring Bocce details were sent out on March 1 . st

Family programming events have been scheduled, including: Family Trivia, Family Bingo, and Mini Golf in the Ballroom.

In addition to these program updates, we recently said farewell to Ryan Schaben and thanked him for his contributions to the Club. The Assistant General Manager interview process is progressing well, and we look forward to sharing updates soon.

As we move into the new fiscal year, departmental goals and objectives are being finalized to ensure alignment with the Board of Directors' goals and continued accountability across the team. Furthermore, the Board of Directors election was sent to you on Saturday, February 28th; please be sure to cast your vote.

As always, your engagement matters. Please continue to share your perspectives and ideas. Your voice directly shapes our direction. Thank you for your continued stewardship and support. We look forward to a vibrant spring season ahead.

Notes from the Board Chair by Steve Sigman stevesigmanstl@gmail.com

Fellow Club Members,

First and foremost, Thank You to everyone who participated in the recent indoor dining and key infrastructure assessment vote. An 81% participation rate is truly remarkable and speaks volumes about the level of engagement and ownership our members feel towards Forest Hills Country Club. That kind of involvement is something we should all be proud of.

After certification, the proposed assessment did not pass, with the final tally at 41.5% in favor and 58.5% opposed. While the outcome was not what the Board had recommended, we fully respect the will of the membership. Healthy discussion, thoughtful consideration, and active participation are hallmarks of a strong, member-owned club.

The Board and Long-Range Planning Committee, along with other appropriate committees, will regroup regarding the indoor dining project. We will seek additional input from members and carefully evaluate the best path forward. Our goal remains the same…to thoughtfully enhance the member experience while honoring the priorities and perspectives of the membership.

At the same time, several infrastructure components included in the proposal (HVAC upgrades, riprap grouting, bridge replacements and bunkers on The Valley course) remain critical needs. To responsibly address some of these essential items, the Board has approved a 10% levy. While we always prefer comprehensive solutions, maintaining the physical integrity of our facilities and grounds is part of our responsibility as stewards of this club.

I would also like to extend sincere thanks to the many committee members who dedicated countless hours to developing such a thorough and well-researched proposal. In particular, the House Committee and Finance Committee invested significant time and expertise into this effort. Their work reflects the deep care our members have for the long-term health of the club.

Notes from the Board Chair, Continued

Please mark your calendar for 6:00 PM Thursday, March 26, and plan to attend our Annual Club Meeting. We will share updates from key committees, including Finance, Membership, and Long-Range Planning. We will also present the results of the recent member survey. Most importantly, your Board of Directors will be there to answer questions and hear your thoughts. An engaged and informed membership is not just a goal—it is essential to our continued success.

As we turn the corner into spring and soon summer, the energy around the club begins to shift. Patios fill, courses green up, and families gather. It is truly one of the best times of year to enjoy everything Forest Hills has to offer. I look forward to seeing you at the club, hopefully in great weather, sharing great times with family and friends.

Thank you for your continued commitment to Forest Hills. Together, we will ensure its strength and vibrancy for years to come.

Spring Bocce Returns! by

Dear Forest Hills Country Club Members,

Get ready - Bocce is returning for its 7th season at Forest Hills Country Club, and I will be your new League Commissioner! This spring, league play will once again take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 - 8:30 pm, running from Wednesday, April 1st, through Thursday, May 7th. Playoffs are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, May 13th, and teams lucky enough to make it to the Championships will play on Sunday, May 17th.

Members may sign up as a whole team, as a couple, or individually. Individual & couple registrations will be placed on a team. Each team will have a team captain who will oversee their team and ensure all league communication is distributed. The Club will only communicate with team captains throughout the league.

Bocce is a great way to connect with fellow members, & we encourage everyone age 21 & older to register early. In previous years, the league has reached capacity, so be sure to secure your spot soon. Complete league information, signup forms, rules, and FAQs are included in this mailing. You can find all the necessary information on the website under the 'Dining and Social' tab.

League teams can have a maximum of 14 players. Due to the overwhelming popularity of our bocce leagues, any team with fewer than 14 will have additional signups added to your team by the League Commissioner. This higher max number allows players to join a team without committing to play all 7 weeks. A minimum of 4 players must be in attendance for the team to compete. If 4 players are not in attendance approximately five minutes after the scheduled game time, the first game will be forfeited. If 4 players are not in attendance at approximately ten minutes after the scheduled game time, the entire match will be forfeited. If you need someone to play (sub) who is not signed up on your team roster, we will allow it; they will be billed for the entire league fee. The entry fee is $76 per player/member each season. The fee covers staffing, supplies, officials, and passed hors d'oeuvres every night of league play, which will be served at the bocce location for every match for the entire seven weeks.

I would like to kindly remind everyone that the dress attire for Bocce Leagues is Country Club Casual, so the Clubhouse dress code applies on the courts.

We look forward to another fantastic season of Forest Hills Bocce on the courts! If you have any questions, please contact me directly at adamg@foresthillscc.net, and I will be happy to answer them.

Dear Forest Hills Country Club Members,

The last weeks of January brought us cold temperatures and steady snow cover. While the ground froze, the snow acted as a natural insulating blanket. It’s always interesting to think of snow as protective, but it plays an important role in turfgrass health. Snow cover shields the leaf blades from direct exposure to extreme cold air and prevents harsh winter winds from drying them out — a process known as desiccation. By reducing moisture loss and temperature fluctuations, consistent snow cover helps the turf survive winter stress.

Meanwhile, the Grounds Maintenance staff have remained hard at work. Ongoing projects include drainage improvements, restoration of areas where trees were removed, and taking advantage of milder days to prepare the golf course for play.

In this article, I will highlight these projects, outline the tasks still to be completed, and provide an update on the deep well located at Championship Hole #2.

Drainage Projects

Championship Hole #17

We started this project on Championship hole #17 in middle January. We were planning to lay sod, but the night before, it rained enough to make it too wet. The next day, very cold air temperature moved in, and then the big snowstorm hit. It has taken a long time to dry this area out for us to complete it.

Championship Hole #3

While waiting for the area to dry at Hole #17, our team completed another winter improvement project on the course. A new drainage inlet was installed along the cart path edge between the Championship Hole #3 green and Hole #4 tee.

This area has consistently retained excess water following rainfall and nightly irrigation, often resulting in standing water along the path. The new inlet will improve surface drainage, help direct water away more efficiently, and reduce the likelihood of pooling in the future. The water will be carried away by a drainage pipe installed. The pipe starts at the basin and follows behind #1 green and empties into the creek between #9 tees and #4.

Projects like this keep us on track with our winter goal of eliminating standing water along cart path edges and continuing to enhance overall course conditions for our members and guests.

While working on this project, the staff also restored the ground where 3 sick evergreen trees were removed between Championship holes #1 and #3 greens

Additional drainage inlet
Grading to improve surface drainage

Golf Course Update Continued

In addition to the new installation, the team also repaired multiple existing drainage inlets on the Championship Course at Holes #7, #14, and #15.

Over many years, these inlets had deteriorated and developed erosion around their edges. The resulting soil settlement created uneven surfaces and potential tripping hazards for golfers walking nearby. The repairs addressed the structural integrity of the inlets, stabilized the surrounding areas, and restored a safe, level surface. These improvements not only enhance drainage performance but also reduce safety risk.

Thank you to Carter DeMay and Casey Schiller for leading our staff in the completion of these projects. Their leadership and commitment to improving course conditions continue to have a meaningful impact on the quality and playability of our Championship Course.

Deep Well Update

In early December, we attempted to turn on the deep well located between Championship Holes #2 and #3 to collect a water sample for quality testing. The well would not start, so we contacted our well contractor to diagnose the issue. After completing a series of tests, it was confirmed that the motor had burned up and will need to be replaced.

Prior to this failure, we had already made the decision to pull the motor. Over the past couple of years, water quality testing has shown a gradual decline. Our plan was to remove the motor and conduct a comprehensive camera inspection of the entire well shaft, which extends to a depth of 725 feet. If an issue was identified — specifically, harsher water migrating upward in the shaft — we were prepared to grout the lower portion of the well with concrete to prevent that water from moving upward.

This same situation occurred approximately 20 years ago. At that time, the motor was pulled, and the well shaft was grouted 200 feet up from the bottom. That procedure successfully blocked the poorer-quality water and restored water quality to the standards established in 2000 when the well was originally developed. The key question we are now hoping to answer from the video footage is whether the concrete plug installed 20 years ago has begun to fail.

As of today, the motor has been removed, and the pipe has been laid out on the ground near the well. Our contractor has completed the video inspection and taken the footage back to their office for further review. We anticipate receiving their recommendation within the next week regarding the best course of action to address the water quality issue. We will keep you updated as we determine the final resolution. Attached are a few photos of the well being pulled.

We are excited to welcome everyone back to what is shaping up to be a fantastic 2026 season at the Club. There is great energy heading into the year, and we look forward to seeing the membership enjoying everything the season has to offer.

It is going to be a strong year for equipment. The newest product lines from Callaway, TaylorMade, and Ping look outstanding and are already generating a lot of excitement. If you are considering an upgrade, this is a great year to do it. Our first indoor fitting day of the year was an enormous success in February, and we look forward to the outdoor fitting days that begin in late March. Look for emails as those fitting days approach.

Our first shipments of spring apparel have already arrived from Peter Millar and Holderness & Bourne, with much more on the way. Be sure to stop by the Golf Shop to see the latest styles and fresh looks for the season.

Please remember to check ForeTees regularly for upcoming event sign-ups. Registration is opening for the President’s Cup, Two-Man Championship, Spring Junior Clinics for kids in our Summer Junior Golf Program, and Ladies Clinics. There are great opportunities for players of all ages and skill levels to get involved.
