Dear Forest Hills Country Club Members,
As I sit down to write this month's newsletter, I find myself at my daughter’s dance rehearsal, trying to sneak in a few minutes of work between costume changes and stage directions. It feels fitting because if your May was anything like mine, it was a month filled with celebrations, schedules, end-of-school activities, graduations, sports, and preparations for the busy summer ahead.
At the Club, May was equally active We celebrated Mother's Day, hosted another successful Men's Invitational, welcomed and trained many new team members, and prepared our summer amenities for opening. Personally, I have been navigating school events, summer planning for my children, and all the excitement that comes with the transition into summer. I suspect many of our members are feeling the same sense of relief as May comes to a close and are ready to enjoy everything June has to offer.
And what a June it will be. From golf and swim to racquets, junior sports, outdoor dining, and evenings around the Club, there is an unmistakable energy that arrives this time of year. We look forward to seeing our members and families take full advantage of everything the season has to offer.
Several significant projects continue to move forward across the Club.
Our Better Billy Bunker renovation project continues to progress well. Nine bunkers have been completed and are ready for sand installation, with eight remaining. Our Golf Course Architect was on site the last week of May to review the project and the small modifications to bunkers on Hole 2, Hole 7 and Hole 9. Please be sure to share project updates with your junior golfers so they know what to expect on the course.
June also marks the beginning of our Monday golf outing season, with our first two major Monday golf outings scheduled over the coming weeks As a reminder, only registered golfers are allowed on the golf course at all times This includes walking the golf course as well as the use of all personal transportation devices. Recently, we have seen an increase in the use of e-bikes on Club property, which has become a growing safety concern.
Several important projects continue to move forward as we plan for the future of the Club.
The special use permit for the Eagles View gable logo has been approved, and installation is anticipated within the next three to four weeks
The Grounds Building Committee continues to work alongside an architectural design team to develop concepts for an enhancement to this space.
At the same time, the House Committee will begin working towards a revised dining room concept utilizing valuable feedback provided provided by members through the recent assessment survey process
The Board has also engaged Club Benchmarking to assist with the development of a long-term Capital Asset Plan. This process will provide an independent evaluation of our facilities and assets, providing a dynamic report of when assets need to be retired and replaced with the cost of the replacement items at that time. This will help establish a strategic funding roadmap for future capital needs.
This effort represents an important step toward ensuring that future generations of members enjoy a Club that remains financially healthy, strategically positioned, and capable of maintaining the high standards we all expect.
As always, thank you for your continued support of the Club. June is one of the most exciting months of the year, and our entire team looks forward to seeing you around the Club enjoying everything the season has to offer. In staffing news, we are excited to announce that Andrew Berg will join us as Director of Food & Beverage beginning June 17. Andrew comes to us from Old Hickory Golf Club and brings extensive food and beverage experience to the role. A new golf Assistant Pro, Sam Brandmeyer, will be joining us on June 23rd
Our seasonal staffing efforts have been extremely successful. We currently have 13 team members in onboarding and approximately 259 employees on staff, an increase of roughly 133 team members from last month as we prepare for peak summer operations.
No E-Bikes or Scooters Allowed on Club Property
For the safety of all members, bicycles (traditional and electric), scooters, escooters, hoverboards, Segways, skateboards, roller skates, rollerblades, and similar devices are prohibited on all Club grounds, including the golf course, cart paths, tennis facilities, and pool areas. These devices may only be used to access the Club parking lot, at which point operators should dismount and walk the device to the designated bicycle rack.

One of the things that makes Forest Hills Country Club so special is that it is truly a member-owned and member-run club. The direction of our club is not determined by outside investors or a corporate office. It is shaped by the ideas, energy, and involvement of our members.
The Forest Hills we enjoy today is the result of hundreds of members and spouses over many decades volunteering their time to serve on committees, providing thoughtful recommendations, and helping guide the future of the club. Their involvement has left a lasting impact on everything from our golf course and racquet facilities to dining, social programming, governance, and membership growth.
As we continue planning for the future, we need a diverse representation of members to participate in the committee process to ensure we are addressing the needs and perspectives of all areas of the club. Whether you are a longtime member or relatively new to Forest Hills, your voice and ideas matter.
The good news is that the time commitment is very manageable Most committees meet once a month for an hour, and participation is both meaningful and rewarding It is also a great way to meet fellow members and gain a deeper appreciation for all that goes into operating and improving our club.
Each April, committee compositions are established by the Board member who chairs that committee. We are currently building a list of members and spouses who may have an interest in serving on a committee next year.

Welcome Andrew Berg
We are thrilled to welcome Andrew Berg as our new Food and Beverage Director! Andrew is a hospitality and sports operations professional with extensive experience leading food and beverage, event, and guest service operations across golf clubs, stadiums, and sports organizations. He is joining us after serving as Food and Beverage Manager at Old Hickory Golf Club. Andrew oversaw clubhouse dining, pool operations, inventory control, budgeting, and member engagement initiatives focused on delivering exceptional guest experiences.
With a background that includes leadership roles at Lucas Oil Stadium, Brickyard Crossing at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and several professional baseball organizations, Andrew has built a strong reputation for operational excellence, team leadership, and creating memorable fan and member experiences. His experience spans large-scale concessions management, banquet operations, staffing and training, budgeting, inventory management, and event coordination.
Andrew earned a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration from Southeast Missouri State University. His diverse background in hospitality, athletics, and customer service reflects a passion for leadership, community engagement, and delivering high-quality experiences in fast-paced environments

Forest Hills Country Club extends its deepest condolences to the family of member Lisa Puyear, who passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at the age of 50, after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer, which she faced with remarkable strength, determination, and without complaint. Though her loss leaves an immeasurable void, her family and friends will forever remember her strength, warmth, laughter, and unwavering love
Lisa was a devoted wife for 23 years to Chris, a loving mother to Libby and Charlie, who are her proudest accomplishments, and the heart and CEO of her home. She poured her life into caring for her family and creating a warm, welcoming place for all who knew her.

Dear Forest Hills Country Club Members,
The Valley Bunker Project experienced a slow start due to equipment issues and frequent rainfall. However, over the past two weeks, our contractor, Viridity, has made significant progress preparing bunkers for pea gravel installation and polymer application.
Bunkers on holes 1, 6, 8, and 9 are now ready for sand installation. Over the next week, the team’s goals are to install bunker sand in all these locations, apply polymer to the bunkers on holes 3 and 4, and begin bunker preparation work on hole 2.
With improved weather conditions and equipment performance, the project is continuing to gain momentum and remains on track for the next phase of construction.
As part of our ongoing commitment to course conditioning and presentation, we will be reclaiming the original green edges on the Valley Course by stripping two passes of sod around each green. Over time, bentgrass from the putting surfaces has gradually encroached into the surrounding zoysia turf, softening the clean, defined edges that were part of the original design. This restoration work will create a sharper, more aesthetically pleasing transition between the greens and surrounding turf while also restoring valuable putting surface definition. In addition to the visual and playability benefits, reclaiming these edges will restore several feet of lost turning space between the greens and adjacent bunkers, allowing our maintenance team to maneuver greens mowers more efficiently and reduce wear in these high-traffic areas The turf is expected to heal quickly, and the Valley Course will remain open throughout the process All affected areas will be marked and played as “Ground Under Repair” until fully established.

Recently, I put a video together explaining how we would like our members to negotiate the Valley bunkers while construction is ongoing. Please review this with your children so they also understand. Task Being Worked on Over the Next Two Weeks
In addition to the bunker renovation work, several course improvement projects will be addressed over the next two weeks These include repairing bare turf areas that are in play, specifically two locations along the cart path on Championship Hole #7—one adjacent to the forward tee and another at the second fairway pull-off—as well as a bare area in the fairway on Championship Hole #13 near the fairway bunker.
Additional agronomic tasks will include spraying approaches and bunker faces to eradicate Bermuda grass, touching up weed control in rough and fairway areas, and beginning development of the new landscape bed located between the cart path and Forest Club Drive behind the green on Championship Hole #18.
With favorable weather conditions and continued progress, these projects will further enhance both course playability and overall course presentation.

Staffing
Our Grounds Maintenance staff is currently full. This is in time to begin switching to walk mowing greens, increasing our frequency of mowing Zoysia and smaller detail projects along cart path edges where carts cut corners.
Landscaping
We have been noticing a significant amount of damage and disruption in the landscaping beds around the Aquatic Center and the back lawn. Attached are photos of some of the affected areas

One area of particular concern is located along the stairs on the left side of the property. Because it is fairly secluded, it has become a popular place for children to play. Unfortunately, we have been finding broken tree limbs and other signs of damage in this area.
Please remind your children to avoid playing in the landscaping beds. Our Horticulture staff works hard to maintain these areas, and we appreciate everyone's help in preserving them for all members to enjoy.
In addition, the area along the stairs is heavily shaded and can be more prone to harboring ticks. For both safety and preservation of the landscaping, we ask that children stay out of these beds.

12 of our 18 Hole Ladies traveled to Cape Girardeau to play 2 days at Dalhousie Golf Club in May It was a fun and challenging course The weather was beautiful- maybe a little windy the first day! We enjoyed our time together and enjoyed a great little getaway! Thank you to Matt Hood for helping secure the tee times and Jane Loomes and Brenda Pohl for organizing the golf pairings and an amazing dinner.
Dalhousie Golf Club Trip
Two-Day Women's Club Championship Tournament (June 13 -14 ) th th
Lunch will follow on the 14th to celebrate the winners. This is a two-day individual stroke play tournament. The Championship flight will play from the silver tees. All other flights will play from either the silver or red tees, depending on the tees you selected at the beginning of the season. The more participation, the more flights- and the more fun!! Signups are open on ForeTees, and the deadline is June 8th.
Flag Day (June 16th)
Regular tee times. This is the day you plant your flag on the course when you reach your handicap. The goal is to make it as far as you can and even try to play some extra holes!

Member-Guest Tournament (June 24 - 25 ) th th
This is our two-day signature event of the season! We will "Love the Lou" starting on Wednesday, June 24 , with practice rounds in the afternoon. Wednesday evening, there will be cocktails and golf activities in the Short Game Area. th
Thursday begins with a lunch buffet starting at 11 am, including your favorite St Louis foods. The Member-Guest will begin with a 1:00 PM shotgun start. Dinner and awards will follow the conclusion of play
Member-Member (July 7 )th "Red, White and Birdie!" 8:00 am shotgun start, lunch will follow. Signups will start on June 7th and close on July 3rd.
Senior Men’s Golf Association by John de Greck
Two inches of rain on Monday and one inch on Tuesday made for very sloppy conditions on the last Wednesday in April. Despite casual water on some of the tee boxes and standing water all over the course, a full field of 29 golfers teed off in the qualifier for the 2026 Match Play Championship. Nick Licavoli led the field with a net 70. Doc Schneider and Jeff Bierman also broke par with net 71’s. The top 16 qualifiers advance to the match-play format.
Our string of lousy weather continued into May. After an inch of rain on Tuesday, we played our qualifier for the Two-Man Match Play Championship under cold, dreary weather with standing water, again, all over the place.
Seven teams managed to break net par. The best were:
1st Place: Tom Dean and Mark Leifield (4 under)
3rd Place: Dan Miller and Nick Licavoli (3 under)
2nd Place: Charles Nance and Terry Schad (4 under)
4th Place: Doc Schneider and Tony Piazza (3 under)
We tried a new format in May: best net score on the par 3’s, best net score on the par 4’s, and best net score on the par 5’s.

Our Senior Member-Guest was scheduled for the end of May. Registration for this event was very low, which led to its cancellation. JT believed that the Hanta virus scare, the uncertainty of commerce without pennies, and the afternoon Cardinals-Pirates game contributed to the low registration. John Sherman is attempting to line up Phil Mickelson as the guest speaker for next year’s event.
The June calendar includes a couple of regular play days, the Blind Draw 2-Man Scramble, and Fairways Hit/Par 3’s in regulation.
Always limp with the same leg for the whole round.
May Golf News
Congratulations to Jimmy and Taylor Healey, winners of our Couples Club Championship on Sunday, May 31st! The duo captured the title with an impressive score of 75 in the modified alternate shot format.
If you would like to sign up for the Hole-in-One Club, please email Monica at monicak@foresthillscc.net. As a member of the Hole-in-One Club, you are billed $10 anytime a member of the Club makes a hole-in-one on the Championship Course. The total amount collected from those who participate is what the player is rewarded with when they hit a hole-in-one.

The Morning Book Group has two bestsellers on its upcoming reading list and is savoring the many wonderful books being released each week On Wednesday, June 10, we will discuss The Correspondent by Virginia Evans, and on Wednesday, July 8, we will focus on The Life Impossible by Matt Haig. Our group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. and enjoys socializing during lunch. We welcome all who enjoy reading and lively discussions!
Please note that I will be away attending a business meeting with my husband and will not be present. However, my daughter has read the book and will be available to participate in my place.
