Club News & Reminders Club Closed on Thanksgiving Day Due to the high volume anticipated for Thanksgiving carryout orders, the Club will not be open on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, November 25th). All carryout orders will be picked up cold with reheating instructions from the Club on Wednesday, November 24th.
A la Carte Dining Closed on Tuesdays, November - March Please be reminded that during the months of November - March, the Club does not offer a la carte lunch service on Tuesdays. The Club always remains closed throughout the year on Tuesday evenings for dinner service.
Fitness Center Available for Monday Use Please be reminded that the Fitness Center is available for use on Mondays from 5:00 am until 4:30 pm. Please note, the Clubhouse will not be accessible on Mondays and Tuesdays until 7:00 am, so those wishing to utilize the Men’s and Ladies’ Locker Rooms on those days will not be able to do so until after 7:00 am.
Club Shut Down Period Scheduled For January 2022 The Club will close for its annual shut down period from Saturday, January 1st - Tuesday, January 11th, 2022 and will reopen for lunch and dinner service for the remainder of the month (Wednesday through Sunday) on Wednesday, January 12th. The Fitness Center will have modified hours during this time.

Staff News I wanted to inform you that my last day at Forest Hills will be Saturday, November 6th. This was a very difficult decision to make, but I know what I’m doing is better for my long-term career. It has been a true pleasure working here as the Concierge at the front desk for the past two and a half years, and I appreciate our members and staff more than I can put into words. Thank you for making my time here so enjoyable and memorable. I wish all of you as individuals, as well as the Club, all the very best for the future.

Dear Forest Hills Members, Fall is now upon us, and the leaves are changing fast. As we usher in November, we begin thinking about the holiday season. Chef Craig will be preparing Thanksgiving carryout meals and will have a limited number of meals, so please try to call soon to place your order. Some of the other highlighted food and beverage events this month focus on our families. On Thursday evenings, we will be hosting Parents’ Night Out. Parents will be able to drop their children off at the Club while enjoying a date night in the Club dining rooms. The staff will watch your children (ages 5 and up) while doing various activities, including playing games and crafts and we will feature half price bottles of wine that parents can enjoy during their dining reservation. On Saturday, November 20th, we are having our Father-Daughter Ball. This is a great time for dad to spend some valuable time with their daughter(s). On Saturday, November 27th, the Club will host a Pajama and Movie Parents’ Night Out. The movie, The Polar Express, will be playing and the kids will enjoy breakfast for dinner and Dancakes will also be creating pancake art for the kids! The holidays are a time of the year when family and friends spend some valuable time catching up and celebrating one another. We hope that you and your family will find time to come to the Club to relax and enjoy the events the staff has planned. We have a few quick updates on the projects that are outstanding. Unfortunately, we were just notified that the carpet is, once again, on back order. It was supposed to have shipped this week and now it will not arrive until sometime in December. Therefore, we are postponing the installation of the carpet and tile entryway until January. This is very disappointing as we were very hopeful that the carpet would be installed before Thanksgiving. We have started on the maintenance to the swimming pools. They have been sandblasted and painting has started; however, the recent cold and rain has put this on hold for now. Hopefully, we will get a few days of good weather so we can finish.
We have also started the viewing area for the Pickleball Courts. It has been great seeing a lot of pickleball activity on the courts this fall, particularly on Tuesday nights. We have had some good turnouts. The fence for the pickleball courts has finally arrived. Once the fence and the pickleball viewing area is complete, we will finish paving the last section of the parking lot. Final touches will be the installation of the new handrails and then we are finished with the projects at the Racquet Facility. The Long-Range Planning Committee has been working hard under the leadership of Mr. Charles Nance. Mr. Nance and his committee spent an enormous amount of time with the operational committees here at the Club trying to identify future property upkeep and repair needs. The committee is meeting again this week and will be working closely with the Finance Committee and the Board to identify and prioritize future needs.
The pickleball patio and walkway is underway at the Racquet Facility.
The creeks on the golf course are showing some significant erosion and need to be addressed sooner than later. At this time, the creeks have risen to the top of the priority list and we are working closely with Midwest Testing and Stock and Associates to help us identify the scope of work and materials needed for repairs so that we can evaluate costs. Once more data is accumulated and the Board has time to evaluate this work, you will be receiving more information from the Club’s leadership regarding the outcome of the planning process. We hope you and your family join us in celebrating the holiday season. The staff will work hard to make your time at the Club special. We hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving and we can’t wait to see you at the Club very soon.

Yes, the rumors are true! It’s looking like it could be a three year wait to join the Club. There is currently 65 on the golf waitlist and 38 on the social waitlist. Our three new members this month have spent roughly eight months on the waitlist respectively, after getting on the waitlist back in February or March. That’s back when there was just 20 on the waitlist and it still took eight months. I’m hesitant to tell people it will be three years on the waitlist, because a lot can change over three years. I tend to tell people that it will be a two year minimum wait for golf and a one year minimum wait for social. I clearly don’t want to give false hope, but I don’t want to tell someone it will be three years and they don’t get on the waitlist because of it. The Initiation Fees went up in September from $20,000 to $25,000 for Full Golf Membership and from $3,000 to $4,000 for Social Membership. This is a great “price point” for the Club and also the highest our Initiation Fee has been since the 1990’s. I know with the current interest it’s easy to say, “Well, let’s keep raising it!” There’s a lot to consider than just the basic supply and demand. The market is a big factor. You can easily price yourself out of the market if you aren’t careful, which will lead to a quick backtrack of the price. Even before the increase, our Initiation Fee was slightly above Meadowbrook’s and this jump will put us further ahead. Also, what are families with young kids willing to pay? One of the demographic targets for Forest Hills is that 30-45 year old couple with 2-4 kids. That leads me into marketing of the Club. It’s hard to sell a “Family Club Atmosphere” with an Algonquin price; however, the facility improvements and addition of pickleball are a big reason we decided it was the right time for an increase. Have you seen the new Ballroom chairs? What an improvement over the old chairs! I’m excited about the pool getting painted and the new patio and sidewalk over by the pickleball courts. Once our carpet arrives, we will also be ripping up the tile in the Foyer and entry way and putting in some new tile and carpet that looks amazing. Keep your eye out this spring when we will be replacing the hitting bays on the driving range with new all-weather mats. The things you can do with a full Club!

Three Senior Men’s Association events closed out our 2021 season. The September 29th regular weekly play day found Tim Rohlman posting a winning score of net 63. Jack Meyer and Jim Harf each posted the next best score of net 66, with Jack taking 2nd place on a tie-breaker and Jim in 3rd. Jim Harf won the October 6th regular play day with a net 71, followed by Tony Piazza in 2nd place with a net 72, and Terry Gooding in 3rd with a net 74. The final event of the season, the Fall Closer with a shamble format, dodged the inclement weather on October 13. The winning team with a score of -25 was Curt Albrecht, Charles Nance, Dick Buckman and John Wright. In 2 nd place with a score of -22 was the team of Jeff McVehil, David Ganz, Tom Faerber and Fred Salerno. In 3 rd place, with a score of -21, was the team of Larry Thayer, John Niemeyer, William Robertson and Mark Hawley. It was a good summer with many exciting events. Congratulations to Jim “Doc” Schneider who was crowned 2021 Senior Golfer of the Year. Doc ran away with the award as leading money-winner for the yearlong series of events. His name will be enshrined on the new Senior Men plaque in the Clubhouse. Terry Schad finished in 2 nd place, Charles Nance in 3rd place, Jim Harf in 4th place, and Tom Faerber in 5th place.
We have already begun to plan for the 2022 season. We welcome your input as we put the schedule together.

Girls’ Golf State Results Forest Hills is proud of our junior golfers who played in the State Tournament on October 18th and 19th at Rivercut Golf Course in Springfield. Qualifying is an achievement in and of itself, and we had five ladies who were able to represent their schools. Member Golf News Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association Wins Junior Cup Team MAGA won the 23rd Mid-America Junior Cup with a dominant showing in singles to bring the cup back to St. Louis on October 23rd-24th. Congratulations to two of the team’s players, Ryan Walsh and Addy Surber, on their great play during the prestigious tournament. The Mid-America Junior Cup matches are an annual competition between MAGA and Central Links Golf (formerly the Kansas City Golf Association). The teams are comprised of the top juniors from each Associations respective regions. MAGA now leads the all-time series with ten wins compared to CLG’s nine (4 ties).
