2020 Year in Review by Kevin Donovan & Christopher Swenson Dear Forest Hills Members, We hope you and your families had a wonderful holiday season! Wow, what a year. 2020 presented many challenges to Forest Hills Country Club and was very difficult for all on different levels. However, Forest Hills Country Club’s staff and membership achieved some amazing accomplishments along the way. Mr. Swenson, the staff I are working to build a separate publication summarizing the year as well as these accomplishments. Currently, the dining restrictions have been eased a bit and the staff is anxious to see our members back in the dining room again. It is our hope that the vaccine starts to show positive results as we work towards moving back to full operations. Happy New Year and we hope to see you at the Club very soon. Best regards, Kevin Donovan & Christopher Swenson

2021 STLDGA Calendar of Events Did you know, that as a male member of our Club, you are automatically considered a member of the St. Louis District Golf Association? See below schedule for 2021. There are several events throughout the year for which you may qualify for and enter. Many of the events feature both gross and net competitions. Each event has its own entry fee. One of the more popular events thru the years has been the Salomon Father/Son Championship. This event has been expanded in 2021 to become the Parent/Child Championship, requiring that one of the team members must be a member of the STLDGA. The event is flighted by age group, with appropriate tees for the age group. Many of the District events rotate amongst the 25 member clubs, so you might have the opportunity to play venues that are not generally available to you. If you have not already created a profile on the STLDGA Master Roster, go to the District website at www.stldga.com, click on ‘Member Log In’, and create a profile. If you have a GHIN Number, use that as part of your registration process. Registration for the 2021 events opens on March 15th.

If you have any questions, please contact the Golf Shop.

Tips from the Tee by Ryan Martin, PGA

ryanm@foresthillscc.net

Setting Goals for the New Year Happy New Year to everyone, and I hope you’re as excited as I am to start 2021! Now is the time to reflect back on your golf season, and decide what improvements could be made for this year. For those of you who are looking to play better golf and enjoy the game more, you should begin by setting goals for the season. Identify a few weaknesses or areas of improvements in your golf game, and set some personal but realistic goals to focus on. Some popular examples are the golf swing, chipping, putting, and bunker play. Additionally, your course management and practicing more efficiently are other aspects you may want to develop. Improving strength and flexibility is another common winter goal, and benefits more than just your golf game. Seeking help for all of these is most beneficial; however, you may plan out practice sessions yourself to avoid poor time management, and practicing with no structure.

Goal setting has not only been used by athletes, but also by many successful business people. It is a great way to motivate yourself, and track your progression during the process. Before the warm spring temperatures arrive, start the new year proactively by writing down some goals, and then develop a plan of attack.

Message from the Pro by Jimmy Bals, PGA

jimmyb@foresthillscc.net

Thank you for such a warm welcome during my first month at Forest Hills Country Club. The combination of warm weather and holiday shopping in December gave me a great opportunity to meet quite a few of the members. Reconnecting with members I had known from my previous time working here doubled the enjoyment. Some have said “welcome home,” and honestly it does feel like home. I am very grateful to be back at the Club that played such an important role in my career. As 2020 unfolded, golf became the activity of choice for people across the country. New people came into the game, rounds escalated and families shared more time on the golf course than ever. I certainly see that trend continuing in 2021 and it being one of the best years ever at Forest Hills. JT Tierney, our Head Golf Professional, and myself are looking forward to meeting more of you as business gets back to normal. Many of you will continue to work on your game this winter with our Teaching Professional, Ryan Martin, so don’t be surprised if I walk into the studio to say hello. Happy New Year and we look forward to serving you in 2021.

January Golf Shop Reminders Please be reminded the Golf Shop and Bag Room will be closed from Thursday, January 1st through Thursday, January 14th. If you plan on playing at Forest Hills on days the Golf Shop is closed, you must book your tee time through ForeTees. Greens and Grounds staff will send emails regarding course conditions. During this period, tee times will begin at 11:00 a.m. Carts will not be available, walking only, and the Practice Facility will be closed. The Golf Shop and Practice Facility will resume normal operating hours on Friday, January 15th. The Golf Shop will be open Tuesday—Sunday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm the remainder of January beginning on the 15th in addition to the month of February while the Practice Facility will be open from 9:30 am - 3:30 pm.
