In Loving Memory It is with deep regret that we inform the membership of the passing of one of our former members, Michael Franz, who passed away on January 20, 2022. Mike was a member of the Club for 40 years and an avid golfer. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to many.

Dear Forest Hills Country Club Members, I hope the new year has been off to a great start for you and your family. I wanted to take this time to remind you of a few important updates and things taking place around the Club.
Facility Update The clubhouse floor tile project has been completed in the lobby, around the main bar and in the hallway leading to Dutch’s Lounge. This is the first phase of the flooring replacement project. Once the carpet fabrication is complete, we plan to finalize this project. All carpet, wood and baseboard trim in the hallways and lobby throughout the Clubhouse will be replaced with the new product. The dining room carpet will also be replaced during this second phase. We are anticipating a ship date of mid-February for the carpet and plan to begin installation as soon as possible once it is received. We will update you as installation begins to communicate any necessary hallway closures that will affect traffic patterns throughout the Clubhouse. We have also begun an update to the ballroom sound system. All components of this area including speakers and microphones are being updated. This project will also take place in two phases due to supply chain issues. The speakers will be replaced this month and the microphone system will follow once the components needed for this update are received.
Voting Procedure Update All primary members eligible to vote during the election for the 2022 projects have been sent a link from Forest Hills Country Club at vote@simplyvoting.com to submit their online ballot. The election will be open through 5:00 pm on February 10, 2022. We ask that if you have not already, you take a moment to vote prior to the date and time listed above. The Board of Directors and I thank you for your support during this process.
Interim COO Update As you may know, my husband and I are expecting our second baby girl in just a few short weeks. I will step away from the Club for a period of time for maternity leave and plan to return in May. We are pleased to welcome specialist Interim COO, Larry Marx, during this time to assume the duties of our COO starting the second week of February. Larry is a highly talented club manager with over 29 years of experience managing some of the top golf and country clubs in the nation. He acts exclusively as a professional Interim COO of private clubs and has consulted with numerous clubs across the country. Larry comes highly recommended and respected in the club world. We expect the Club will benefit from Larry’s vast experience with all aspects of club operations, including food and beverage, golf and recreational activities, member retention and recruitment, financial reporting and effective club governance.
We anticipate that Larry will serve the Club for five to six months. During this time, he will be reviewing all the operational areas of the Club and will work closely with the Board of Directors and our Management Team to implement changes that elevate the member experience. Approaching the end of his engagement, Larry will work with the Board to identify a permanent COO for the Club.
Speed in the Neighborhood As a friendly reminder from the Forest Hills Management Team and the Trustees of Forest Hills Club Estates, we ask that you adhere to the posted speed limit signs of 25 miles per hour in the Forest Hills subdivision. We take the safety of residents, guests, pets and club members very seriously. The increased speeds on Forest Club Drive and surrounding streets has dramatically increased creating a safety risk. Tips from the Tee by Ryan Martin, PGA

Don’t wait any longer, now is the time to start improving your golf game! Spring weather and the start of golf season are right around the corner, so come see me in the FHCC Teaching Lab. It is always easier to make changes to your swing while the weather doesn’t allow you to play much golf. I will analyze your set-up and swing with the use of video, TrackMan numbers, and your ball flight. This will give you a plan going forward on how to make practice time more efficient. In the meantime, a quick tip to start out with is checking your golf posture. It is very easy for us to get into some poor positions after taking an extended time off from our regular golf routine. Sitting at a computer, and staring at a phone can cause poor habits in our posture. To check this, use a mirror at your side and get in your set up position like you are holding a golf club. Make sure your shoulders don’t slouch too much, or let your chin be tucked into your chest. To fix this, stand straight up and bend at the hips like you’re looking over a cliff. Then add a slight knee flex, and slightly lift your chin with your eyes looking straight at the ball. If you need to, slightly pull your shoulders back feeling like a soldier standing at attention. 2022 Junior Golf Information Spring Junior Jump Start Lesson Program The Golf Shop will once again host the Junior Jump Start Lesson Program throughout the month of April. Jump Start Programs are a pre-summer after school program designed to enhance the skill level of Junior Golfers from Skills - Valley groups. We will focus on the fundamentals of golf, including full swing, short game, and valuable on-course experience. Our goal is to provide great instruction while engaging our juniors in entertaining games, preparing them for a fun filled summer of golf. Be on the lookout for additional details regarding cost and dates.
Junior Golf Summer Program Summer will be here before we know it! The 2022 Summer Junior Program Manuals will be available soon, but we wanted to inform you of the general schedule for summer. All groups except for the Championship 18 Group have one week of clinics in addition to a regular play day each week. The summer program for all groups will start the week of June 7th and conclude during the season ending tournament on July 21st - 22nd.

Next Meeting: Wednesday, February 16th ● 6:00 pm The Evening Book Club started 2022 with a bang. We held our first ever January Book Club meeting. It was fun to start earlier in the year, but many of us question our decision when we checked the temperature outside. Fortunately, we were soon warmed with Chef’s cuisine and a glass of wine. In January, we discussed The Tender Bar: A Memoir by J.R. Moehringer. I would say with mixed reviews... On February 16th, we will be discussing: American Princess, A Novel of First Daughter Alice Roosevelt by Stephanie Marie Thornton. Also, in February we will be selecting at least two books for future discussions. Please email me your suggestions for the ballot. Everyone is welcomed to the Evening Book Club. Members of the Morning Book Club have literally “closed the book” on 2021 and are glad to start a new chapter in 2022. Our first meeting of the year is Wednesday, February 9, and we will discuss The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict. This selection for Black History Month is a historical novel about the life of Belle da Costa Greene, personal librarian to J.P. Morgan, and the dual life she led. Our March meeting focuses on another American family, the Vanderbilts, and we will discuss two books. The selections are either The Last Castle: The Epic Story of Love, Loss, and American Royalty in the Nation’s Largest Home by Denise Kiernan and/or Vanderbilt: The Rise and Fall of an American Dynasty by Anderson Cooper.
