January Club Shut Down The Club will close for its annual shut down period from Saturday, January 1st - Thursday, January 13th, 2022, and will reopen for the annual Open Kitchen Event on Friday, January 14th. The Breakfast Buffet will resume on Sunday, January 16th, and lunch service will resume on Wednesday, January 19th. The Fitness Center will have modified hours during this time. We are in the process of reaching out to other area clubs for reciprocal use during this time. We will keep you updated as we find out more information.

Club News December’s Live Music Moved to Saturday, December 18th The Club’s monthly ‘Second Saturday: Prime Rib and Live Music’ has been moved to Saturday, December 18th. We will, however, still offer Chef Craig’s prime rib feature on Saturday, December 11th from 5:00 pm - close.
Dutch’s Hut Hours of Operation Update During the months of December, January and February, Dutch’s Hut will operate Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 am 4:00 pm and will be closed each week on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Hours will also be dependent on weather.
Website Homepage Update We are in the process of redesigning the home page of the Club website, www.foresthillscc.net. Upon logging in, you will see a more user-friendly menu that will allow you to view your statement, access ForeTees, make dining reservations and more. Additional updates to the home page will be coming soon.
Bundles Available for Pickup from the Grounds Maintenance Building **Please Note, Cords and Half Cords Will Not Be Available this Year**
Forest Hills will provide bundled wood like you would find outside of convenience stores. The Club will provide double the amount you might find elsewhere, which is 12 pieces, for $5.00 plus tax. Bundles will be available by the front door of the Grounds Maintenance facility. Please sign the clipboard indicating your name, member number and quantity purchased so that the club can bill your account.

As the winter weather begins to set in, don’t let your golf game go dormant! There are plenty of ways to keep your swing in shape and your golf muscles loose. As we all know, flexibility is a key component to the golf swing. Titleist Performance Institute has plenty of great stretches and exercises to improve flexibility throughout the winter. https://www.mytpi.com/exercises The professional staff will continue to offer lessons throughout the winter with the use of our indoor Teaching Lab. Inside the Lab, we use TrackMan numbers like swing direction, club face angle in addition to a few others to see what is causing your inconsistencies. January Shutdown Course Protocol As the annual January shutdown approaches, please be reminded of our policy regarding play on the course: Members may walk the Championship or Valley Course while the Golf Shop is closed on Tuesday - Sunday from January 1st - 13th, but must first check the ForeTees home page for updated course conditions prior to play.

Golf Shop Holiday Sale Update Greetings Forest Hills Members, As the holiday season approaches, we want to remind you that the Golf Shop still has many great gifts for your shopping needs. While this year has been difficult acquiring products, we have been in constant communication with our vendors trying to capture great products for the fall/winter season. As of late, we have received new product from Greyson, Donald Ross, Johnnie-O, Tail and Adidas. This time of year, we offer not only golf products but lifestyle items as well. In addition to apparel, we also have other gift ideas such as Bushnell Wingman, FHCC glassware, Nexbelts, Tica money clips and more. On Saturday, December 11th, we will have the second and final Golf Shop holiday sale of the season. Complimentary beer and wine will be served while you shop, with multiple chances to get additional discounts off the already discounted member price. The sale will run from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. As always, we will have complimentary gift wrapping for your convenience. Your Golf Shop staff is always happy to accommodate special order items; however, due to the current state of the golf merchandise world, many companies are still experiencing low inventory levels. We will do everything possible to order products should we not have it in stock. We encourage everyone to shop early for the best selection. As a member of the Holein-One Club, you are billed $5 anytime a member of the Club makes a hole-in-one on the Championship Course. The total amount collected from those who participate is what the player is rewarded with when they hit a hole-in-one.
Bag Storage Reminder As the offseason and January shutdown approach, remember to grab your clubs from the bag storage room if you need them for travel or other personal reasons. As always, a member of the Golf Shop is available from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Tuesday - Sunday to grab your clubs as needed throughout the month of December. Staffed hours during January shutdown may be affected, so additional notice may be necessary for bag retrieval.

Thank you so much for making last month’s book club discussion so interesting. Not the world’s easiest or most enjoyable read; but, The Spy Who Came in from the Cold is a 20th-century classic and may prove to be more haunting than many other spy novels. I must correct myself and let you know that the movie version with Richard Burton actually is on Amazon Prime, NOT Netflix.
Wednesday, December 8th: Christmastime 1939 by Linda Mahkovec Wednesday, February 9, 2022: The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict In thinking about books for next spring, there are several that are being recommended and some have thematic connections. Book themes and popularity of certain genres seem to come in waves. A book about dwarf in Germany during WWII brought a tsunami of stories of women/girls/boys who were musicians/spies/bakers/ booksellers in London/Paris/Berlin/Moscow and secretly Jewish/blind/orphaned. It’s overwhelming. However, it does make it easier to shop because “if you liked that, you will love this.” Another book club at Forest Hills recommended The Lincoln Highway by Amor Towles. This is a 592-page coming-of-age 1950’s “road trip” similar to William Kent Krueger’s This Tender Land, a 1930’s coming-of-age boys-on-a-journey book. Huck Finn and The Canterbury Tales come to mind and there doesn’t seem to be much new under the sun. Playing with time and alternative life choices is another popular storyline. The Midnight Library deals with a young woman learning how different choices she could have made and their subsequent “butterfly effects” would have changed the trajectory of her life. It is by Matt Haig and is 304 pp. Similarly, The Invisible Life of Addie Larue (444 pp. by V.V. Schwab) tracks the multi-century life of a main character who has made a Faustian bargain. For her best sellers Circe and The Song of Achilles, Madeline Miller found inspiration in the The Iliad and The Odyssey. Similarly, Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr involves multiple characters over time, all connected by the mythological tale of Aethon (also created by Doerr). It is a “book about books and story about stories” and it a current top-ten bestseller. Today’s #1 bestseller is The Stranger in the Lifeboat by Mitch Albom (288 pp). It involves the explosion of yacht at sea. Ten people survive--five guests and five staff. They come upon a man floating in the water and take him in. When peppered with questions about who he is, he claims to be God, to whom they have prayed for rescue. I have never been a big fan of this writer but in the years since I last read his works, perhaps he has grown. Lent 2022 is March 7 through April 14 and this may be a thoughtful read for that time of year. Lastly, for a great stocking-stuffer for a book-loving grandchild, spouse, or yourself, please check out The Short Story of the Novel: A Pocket Guide to Key Genres, Novels, Themes and Techniques by Henry Russell. It’s an engaging reference book and fun read.
