Club News & Reminders Aquatic Center Hours of Operation Update Beginning the week of August 23rd, the Aquatic Center will begin its modified summer hours. The Family Pool will be open from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Tuesday - Friday until Friday, September 2nd, and will also be open 10:00 am - 8:00 pm on Saturdays and Sundays in addition to Labor Day (Monday, September 5th). The Adult Pool (ages 18 and up) will remain open 10:00 am - 8:00 pm, Tuesday - Sunday, until Sunday, September 4th, and both pools will be open 10:00 am - 8:00 pm on Monday, September 5th.
Club Hours for Labor Day (Monday, September 5th) In observation of Labor Day weekend, all club facilities will be open on Monday, September 5th. A la carte dinner service will not be available on this day, however, a la carte lunch service will be offered. The Club will operate under the following hours of operation:

Congrats to our Hardin Junior Championships Participants! Doss Gibson and Tristan Lastrina placed 5th and 6th respectively in the 1213 year old division. William Bomkamp (right), Aiden Edwards, Henry O’Donnell, and Gavin Otis placed 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 8th respectively in the 14-15 year old division. Keep up the great work, all!

Dear Forest Hills Country Club Members,
As summer sadly comes to a close, and you start preparing for another school year with your families, we would like to take a moment to thank you for all your support of the Club this summer. It was fantastic to see all the activity and excitement that took place around the Club. The junior sports programs continue to grow and develop our next generation of young athletes. The Forest Hills team and I are proud to be a part of the memories you and your families create at the Club. We truly enjoy watching your families grow and seeing all your achievements. Now please allow me to share a brief update on the projects that have been happening around the Club over the past month. Creek Stabilization Our creek stabilization project continues to move forward as discussed in my article last month. Our consultant is finalizing the concept plans and drawings for the locations of the engineered rock riffles. He will be at the Club during the first week of August to ground truth the plan. We will then submit the plans to the USACE and our contractors who will be submitting bids for the project. We will continue to provide further updates to you in the coming weeks and months. Our current concept is to begin construction on the creeks in late fall or early winter of this year. Short Game Area Viridity, our short game area contractor, has been working on the construction of the short game practice area for the last three weeks. They are making great progress. You may have seen the weekly updates we have been providing. We hope that these updates are helping to keep you informed of any potential disturbances that will take place each week. We are still on track to seed the greens by September 1st. This will allow for two grass growing seasons, one in the fall and one in early spring which will allow play in May of 2023. Clubhouse Update The Clubhouse projects have finished up with the remaining carpet for the dining rooms completed the last week of July. We are still waiting on a few furniture items to arrive and be placed in the main Club entrance as well as some artwork to be placed in the hallways. If you have not had a chance to look at these enhancements, we encourage you to come join us for dinner to see them and enjoy a meal from our culinary team, who is now being led by our new Executive Chef, Anthony Laub. Updates From Around the Club The last month saw many changes to our Club! We are constantly working on improving our facilities to ensure you have the best experience possible. Here is a recap of some of the projects we accomplished in July 2022.
We installed new carpet in the member dining areas! Come check it out the next time you are at the Club.
We sodded hole #9 on the Championship course and sodded a bunker on the 5th hole of the valley course. Also, the short game area is underway! Keep an eye out for weekly email updates regarding this project.
After a record setting rain event on July 26th, our bunkers saw some light damage. We faired much better than many other clubs in St. Louis, but as you can see, we didn’t make it through unscathed. The bunker project seeks to address some of the drainage issues we experience in our bunkers during storms so that we won’t run into issues like this in the future

We are asking the membership to help make Forest Hills Country Club a great golfing environment for our members, their families, and guests. An important aspect in reaching this goal is for members, adult children, young children, and guests to understand key golf policies. Most members adhere to these policies, but we see many guests, adult children, and junior players who need to be informed. These polices are either directly not followed or unknown to the individual. It is the responsibility of the member to relay the appropriate information forward to their family members and guests. This will alleviate any uncomfortable conversations with our professional staff and ensure all players have an enjoyable time here at the club. The Top 3 most common policy infractions are as follows: 1 - Shirts not tucked in. 2 - Members not signing in at the Golf shop, especially, juniors on the Valley Course. 3 - Hats being worn with the bill facing backwards. As a reminder, there is over $15,000 of credit on the books that expires at year end. We just received new shipments from Peter Millar, Greyson, Vineyard Vines, and Johnnie-O. This is a great time to stop by the Golf Shop while inventory is plentiful. You have earned it, so we want to make sure you use it. We ask that you continue to fill divots using the sand provided on the golf cart, especially on the par three tee boxes. More members than ever are using the sand, but there is still more that can be done. Thank you to all players for taking ownership in keeping Forest Hills Country Club a great place to enjoy the game of golf.

Senior men have finally have had a string of good weather, albeit quite a bit hot. Three regular play days have been held since the last newsletter. Michael Spencer won the June 22 event, followed by Tim Rohlman and Tony Ruggeri. Jim Moffit prevailed on June 29, followed by Lee Reid and Mark Mager. Jim prevailed once again on July 6, followed by Pat Hopkins in second place and Charles Nance, who won a tiebreaker for third place. Lee Reid won the “Most Fairways Hit” event on July 13, with Mike Vangyia and Tim Rearden in second and third place respectively. The final event before we went to press was the 3-Man Shamble. The team of Jack Meyer, Pat Hopkins and Stan Grossman prevailed. The team of Tim Rearden, Bill Bennett and Mark Hawley finished second, while the team of Jeff Pohl, Dale Hoette and Ed Mayuga finished in third place.

Parents, if your son or daughter shows interest in trying to become a successful tournament golfer, now may be the time to prepare. Like anything in life, achieving a goal takes time and effort, and the game has grown so much that the field of talent is larger than ever. Junior golfers need a qualified golf instructor to make necessary changes to their swing and short game. This person must also be a good mentor and motivator that your child has an easy time learning from. While every individual is different, developing a great young golfer takes regular meetings with his coach. Once a week is typically a good start, but after gaining some good results, this will spread out a bit. The coach must focus on building a consistent golf swing, solid short game, putting stroke, and course management. Distance wedges from 40-90 yards are often overlooked, but one area I feel most golfers need to learn to improve. Over the past decade I am very proud of my students’ development as golfers. This is a result of both their hard work, and willingness to make changes that may not feel natural. Regular meetings with me can benefit many golfers to achieve quicker development. Executive Chef News Last month Executive Chef, Craig Peterson, announced he accepted a position with Mission Hills Country Club in Kansas City. Since then, we have been actively searching for the right candidate to lead our Culinary Department. We received over 140 applications from different outlets and with the help of our HR Director, narrowed that down to 20. From there we performed initial screenings and phone interviews to get to our final 6 candidates which included rounds of virtual and in-person interviews. It was clear that one applicant stood out from the rest. We are thrilled to announce that, Anthony Laub, will be taking over as our new Executive Chef. Chef Tony is an executive chef, certified by the American Culinary Federation and a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, with more than 30 years of culinary experience. He has a long history of developing teams in many areas of the healthcare, hospitality and service industries while being committed to quality and the guest experience. Chef Tony has been assisting us in a Sous Chef role since March 2022 and has brought a depth of knowledge to our culinary team. He has traveled extensively throughout the country supporting restaurants, hotels, hospitals and country clubs. He has worked at several high-profile social events including Le Dames D’Escoffier, the International Pinot Noir Festival, Slow Foods USA, and the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Dinners. He has also worked in a culinary capacity with the PGA at several well-known golfing events, including the WM Phoenix Open, the PGA Championship, and the Masters. Chef Tony is excited to continue his relationship with these PGA tournaments while representing Forest Hills Country Club. Chef Tony’s impressive resume includes experience at various country clubs and resorts including the Cherokee Town and Country Club, St. Louis Country Club, Horseshoe Bend Country Club, Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, and Sea Island Resort. During his time at these places, he worked for six Certified Master Chefs and is actively pursuing this certification himself. We are excited to have him on board, and we can’t wait for you all to get to know him over the coming weeks and months!

9 Hole Ladies Golf News by Angie Walsh and Kathy Muschick Hello 9 Hole Ladies! It was hot, but mother-son duo Kathy and Matt Swanson put on another fabulous clinic for the ladies. Those of us who took part in the clinic are now experts in our chipping, pitching and sand game. (Or at least on our way to becoming experts!) It sounds like Kathy will be back in town at the end of August for those who want to work on putting. Look for an email from Matt Swanson with the details. Coming up for the ladies 9 hole group: ● ●

Hot summer days of summer have arrived. We ended July with a fantastic Member-Member Tournament. Thanks to Brenda Pohl and Judy Belew for hosting a wonderful day. Congrats to winners, Lisa Shad and Cathy Moffit.
August is a busy month. Don’t forget to register for events on ForeTees! The Meadowbrook/Forest Hills Challenge two day event begins at Forest Hills on Tuesday, August 16th with an 8:00 am shotgun start. On Wednesday, August 17th the event will be at Meadowbrook with a shotgun start at 8:30 am. Let’s go FHCC! August 18th is Interclub hosted at Persimmon Woods. Shotgun start at 8:30 am. Ladies "Play with a Pro - JT" is on August 23rd at 9:20 am. It's a two net best ball of four. Three members can sign up to play with JT. We ask that members only sign up for one play with the pro during the season. We will bring the month to an end with the traditional fun event, the All Valley Ladies 9 Hole event. Shotgun start at 5:00 pm. The drink cart will be running on Valley Course. This is for any golf member of Forest Hills, you do NOT have to be a member of the 9 Hole or 18 Hole Ladies Group. Come join the fun! August is sure to be a fun month to play golf!
