The Elements of Djing By DJ 007 consists of a pair of turntables, mixer, and Vinyls . With these, the deejay performs techniques such as mixing, scratching, cutting, and sampling, to create an entirely new piece of music from the original track. And as deejay we’re experimenting not only with music, but also with technology such as MPC, Beat Machine , Reasons, Fruity loops.. Now we have DJ / Producers using deejaying as a stepping stone to elevate their craft and entire DJ game. Despite the profusion of technologies now available to any Deejays these techniques remain the essential arsenal of any turntablist or Deejay such as cutting, scratching, beat juggling, so just own your craft and learn the business part of this whole deejay game!! (2) I think there's different elements of deejaying: we have our club DJ's, radio DJ's, mixtape DJ's and battle DJ's all which bring something totally different to the art of deejaying.... It's a platform to where you can express yourself musically and I've had the opportunity to do so for the past 10 years...

Around the same time, Kraftwerk developed a new style of music, combining repetitive rhythms and catchy melodies with a minimalistic and strictly electronic instrumental 1973: DJ Kool Herc developed a way to mix two records together to create the break.

1974: Technics released the first SL-1200 turntable, which remains the industry standard today.

Late 80s and early 90s: the rave scene gave way to huge superstar DJs like Daft Punk, Fatboy Slim, Chemical Brothers, and Crystal Method. Late 90s, early 2000s: the popularity of the MP3 player and the laptop combined to create the digital DJ.

1979: Sugarhill Gang releases "Rapper's Delight," which is the first hip hop single to feature samples as a Bassline.

1986: Aerosmith and Run DMC collaborate on "Walk this Way," which becomes the first hip hop record to reach the top ten. 1986: The Beastie Boys rise to fame, combining punk and rap music with samples and a DJ, which brought a new genre of music front and center. 11

2006: Time Magazine names DJ Shadow's album Endtroducing....., which was the first album created only using samples, as one of the 100 greatest albums of all time.

DJ Showtime age..played piano, guitar, drums & basically anything that made noise...but once I was exposed to the art and concept of turntablism, I was hooked...I literally spent hours listening to djs play on the radio, watching VHS movies that showcased scratch and trick djs...that's where it all started! I knew that the turntable was my weapon of choice from DAY ONE!~ What is the most rewarding part about your job? I would have to say the most rewarding part of my job is to see the energy that comes from the music I play, to the listeners ears, and through their body...to see hundreds or thousands of people dancing, moving, jumping, fistpumpin', singing along W/E...its a feeling like no other to see the smiles and reaction from my music...even the "drunkface, I don't know where I'm at, but I'm having a blast" reaction is cool too!...lol What made you choose being a DJ? How did that start? I just knew! the first time I saw a live DJ, I just knew that's what I wanted to do! When you first started DJing, did you always aim for radio or is this something that hap-

pened along the road? No I actually started djing for myself. I was an athlete in school and always wanted music to listen to before games or events. that led me to making mixtapes for friends, then to house parties, clubs and then radio. How long have you been a Radio DJ? About 9 years on commercial radio. and 2 years before that on college and underground radio back in Orlando. Give us a brief radio tour on how a song gets placed in rotation and how its decided how often it will be played. First of all I do not handle or decide what songs are played on the radio. that's what we have a program director and music director for. There are many ways a record gets added. The most common is

DJ Demp

What got you into DJing and how did you get your start in radio? Pretty much having to provide music for the parties I was going to and the different events. And I started radio by being the premiere DJ on a mixshow on a radio station WBFF 89.7FM, college Radio and also doing guest appearances on the FAMU station and I moved up after that. You rented out clubs instead of getting hired, what made you take matters into your own hands? When I first started throwing college parties I started noticing my name would be larger on the flyer then the rest of the info. So I started thinking they might just need me for my name. So once I figured that out, I figure the hell with getting paid, I can throw my own parties and get the whole door.

When did you decided to tour as a DJ instead of staying with the radio station? It wasn't about staying with the station or not, I started touring around 95/96. My first national tour was with Ghost Town DJs...So So Def..I’m a member of

JiJi Sweet began her career as a senior at the University of Arizona. After working on perfecting her craft for about a year, JiJi landed her first gig with the local Kappa Alpha Psi chapter. JiJi soon became one of the most sought after DJs in Tucson, holding down almost every Greek function at the University. It was here that she began to do Mix CD’s. A few years later the buzz about JiJi Sweet’s Mix CD’s was out and she was referred to the Mix Show Coordinator at Tucson’s Hot 98.3. JiJi became a regular on the Mix Masters Show and she became an Arizona Star. JiJi wanted to branch out of Arizona to conquer another state so she left for Las Vegas, Nevada where she was promptly hired at KCEP Power 88 as a host of the Mix Down Show. want to have radio studio spots in each major city and have different days in that city so we can help artists. But for that to happen we need big sponsors to make that happen so any you companies out there wanna help out get at me. What role do you personally play when it comes to breaking records? Well I've always done mix cds and always looked out for the independents on my cds. We at Dirty South Radio Online, we were the first station to play a lot of the big artists like Soulja Boy, Rick Ross, Jezzy, Drake, Gucci Mane etcc.. We are 5 to 6 months ahead of every 1. We were playing

YC

Racks on Racks in Aug of 2010, that's how long that songs been out - so we are really the first station to play artists first. I don't care what anyone says.

Ways to Avoid a Poisonous Relationship By Paige Diamond Relationships can be a beautiful dream or a heinous nightmare. When we enter into then, we all hope for a peaceful, happy and successful union but more times than not we end up disappointed. Have you ever sat back and really thought about how is it that you find yourself in poisonous relationships. Some accountability is definitely worth taking a look at. As the adage goes:”If you always do what you’ve done, you’ll always get what you got.” Here are some tips to help you avoid poisonous relationships. Be Direct This is where many of us fail. We’ve become so obsessed with being politically correct and polite that we dance around issues and concerns. As we all know, a closed mouth will starve. Ask what you want to know and if asked anything be direct- no chaser. Double talk, talking in circles, or saying a whole lot of nothing is a clear cut and dry sign of manipulation. Be Honest With Yourself We often lie to ourselves about what is acceptable and what is not because we do not want to be alone. Many times when the relationship is over, we sit back and only then do we see clearly what the red flags were. Don’t make excuses for people. People will always show you who they are, Set Boundaries

pens that way your partner knows what lines they cannot cross. If you fail to set boundaries can you REALLY get upset with your partner when they do something that you don’t like? Analyze Intent Why do you want to be with this person? Why do they want to be with you? These questions are hardly ever asked due to our own ego wanting to be stroked because we’re thinking “Why WOULDN’T they want me? I’m the shit!” Food for thought: Intent is a major thing to consider when in or considering getting into a relationship. Just as with anything else, you have to know why and how this person fits into your lifestyle and if they fit into yours and why. Don’t Settle True nobody is perfect but it doesn’t mean that you have to endure pain in order to prove you care about someone. Unless you are truly happy with you, you’ll always try to find someone to fill a void. These people are what I call gap fillers. They are what I call gap fillers. They are just there in the meantime. The issue is some of us make these gap fillers permanent out of convenience. Just by using these five guidelines you’ll be able to navigate around the bullshit and see things for what they are before becoming too invested. Do yourself a favor and start paying attention to the signs. Trust yourself and stop trusting other’s opinion of what you feel because you will never lead yourself wrong.

All too often we get into relationships assuming that our partner knows what is acceptable and not acceptable. The boundaries that need to be set are sexual, emotional & physical. Continuously we’ve put ourselves in situations and it is at that time we want to express that it is not okay rather than saying that off rip. Why not nip things in the bud before it hap37
