Longview Visitor Guide

Page 1

Enjoy the View

Founded in 1870, Longview has become a bustling hub of East Texas commerce, industry, arts, events, and food.

Legend has it that the namesake of our city is derived from the highest point in Longview, a small hill owned by O.H. Methvin who proclaimed upon his first glance from the top, "that's a long view."

Like the view from that hill, it's easy to see why Longview has become a destination for those seeking to enjoy the outdoors, entertain the family, and eat at delicious, unique restaurants.

Longview has year round events and activities, sports venues for regional tournaments, and arguably the best bar-b-que in the state.

Come stay in the Longview to see how friendly people, good food, and beautiful scenery make it easy to "enjoy the view."

Social Media

Keep up-to-date with the latest news, images, and events by following Longview on social media. You’ll find real people talking about their favorite events and places to stay. Log in and connect with Longview to begin your Real East Texas experience.

Balloon Race

I think the Great Texas Balloon Race is a must. You have to go at least once to a balloon glow.

The Great Texas Balloon Race

A world class event attracting the very best competitive balloon pilots from across the country and the world.

The Great Texas Balloon Race was born in 1978 to celebrate the opening of the Longview Mall. In 2013, Gregg County was proclaimed “The Balloon Race Capital of Texas” by the 83rd Texas Legislature.

Today the balloon race draws thousands of people to Longview each summer to enjoy a spectacle in the skies above the entire region.

Balloons race across the sky each morning of the event, aiming for virtual targets in mid-air or tossing bean bags at physical targets on the ground.

Balloon Glows on Friday and Saturday night entertain crowds with an awesome display of color and fire. It’s one of the most popular things to do at the event as attendees are able to get up close and watch how balloons are inflated.

Come join the fun each year as balloons, music, and excitement fill the skies around Longview.

ZIP THROUGH THE PINEY WOODS

Get the best view of the beautiful East Texas landscape while you soar through the canopy at Thomas Falls Zipline Challenge Course.

Outdoor Adventures

Longview is located in the beautiful Piney Woods of East Texas, offering adventures from calming to thrilling.

Experience harmony with nature in the great outdoors while you explore our local trails, parks, lakes, and golf courses. If you are ready for a more thrilling adventure, you can go off-road, zip-line through the trees, float above in a hot air balloon ride, or even jump from a plane for a sky dive.

Divine Catering is always my suggestion when friends visit the area. When I do, their response is always positive because it's the greatest southern cooking in East Texas.

Lil Thai House

Lil’ Thai House is the best! My go-to order is a basil chicken stir-fry w/spicy egg rolls and a Thai tea. Their food is authentic Thai, is scrumptious, and gives you just the right kick! You can’t go wrong here!
