AFMASS EXPOS AFMASS Expos at 11: Driving Innovation Across Africa’s Food, Milling and Baking Industries
E
leven years after its launch, AFMASS Expos has grown from a food and beverage industry exhibition into a broader business platform connecting some of Africa’s most important food, manufacturing, processing and agro-industrial value chains. The latest edition, held from July 15–17, 2026, at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi, Kenya, offered a useful snapshot of that changing landscape. The 11th edition brought together more than 65 exhibitors and 12 sponsors from over 15 countries, filling the exhibition floor with technologies, ingredients, processing equipment, packaging solutions, laboratory systems, logistics services and other technologies supporting the food and beverage value chain. At the heart of the AFMASS Expos platform are now two key individual events: AFMASS Food & BevTech Expo and AFMASS Milling & BakeTech Expo. Rather than operating as a single, broad exhibition, the two events bring together specialised industry segments under a wider AFMASS umbrella, allowing businesses to engage with technologies and solutions relevant to specific stages of the food and agro-processing value chain. TWO EVENTS, ONE INTERCONNECTED INDUSTRY The structure reflects a fundamental reality of modern food manufacturing: food production can no longer be viewed
3
in isolated sectors. Ingredients influence processing. Processing determines packaging requirements. Packaging affects logistics and shelf life. Milling supplies critical raw materials to baking and food manufacturing, while animal feed connects grain processing to the wider agricultural economy. AFMASS Food & BevTech and AFMASS Milling & BakeTech are designed around these connections. The AFMASS Food & BevTech Expo brings together five specialised exhibitions: the Africa Food & Ingredients Expo (AFi), Africa Processing & Packaging Expo (AFRIPACK), Africa Logistics Expo, Africa LabTech Expo and Africa Hotels & Restaurants Expo. Together, these platforms cover a broad spectrum of the food and beverage manufacturing and hospitality ecosystem, from formulation and ingredients through processing, packaging, quality management and logistics to food-service and hospitality. The AFMASS Milling & BakeTech Expo, meanwhile, brings together AFRIFEED, Africa Poultry & Livestock expo (AFRIPOL), Africa Pet Industry Expo, Africa FarmTech Expo and Africa Bakery Expo. This second platform expands the focus upstream into grain processing, animal feed, pet food, agriculture, milling and bakery manufacturing, creating a specialised marketplace around some of the foundational industries
AFMASS EXPO supporting Africa’s food economy. The result is a much broader proposition than a conventional trade exhibition. AFMASS effectively creates a connected marketplace stretching from agricultural production and raw materials to processing, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, food service and hospitality. A VIBRANT SHOWCASE OF FOOD INDUSTRY INNOVATION The 2026 AFMASS Expos transformed Nairobi’s Sarit Expo Centre into a dynamic marketplace for Africa’s food, milling, baking and agro-processing industries. Across the exhibition floor, manufacturers, technology providers, ingredient suppliers, packaging specialists, laboratory companies, logistics firms and hospitality players showcased equipment, products and solutions targeting the industry’s evolving needs. The conference and technical sessions provided a platform for industry leaders and experts to examine emerging trends, market opportunities, technology adoption, food safety, sustainability and the future of manufacturing across Africa. At the Innovation Hub, visitors encountered new products, technologies and ideas designed to address practical challenges facing processors and manufacturers, reinforcing the event’s focus on innovation and commercial application. For exhibitors, the three-day event created opportunities to demonstrate capabilities, meet prospective customers, strengthen existing relationships and identify new partnerships. Attendees likewise benefited from direct access to technologies, expertise and business connections, making the 2026 edition a productive meeting point for Africa’s evolving food industry. A PLATFORM FOR VALUE ADDITION The evolution of AFMASS comes at a time when value addition is becoming a central theme across Africa's food economy. For decades, the continent has faced the challenge of exporting agricultural commodities while importing significant quantities of processed food and value-added products. Increasing local processing capacity offers an opportunity to retain more value within African economies while creating manufacturing jobs, developing technical capabilities and strengthening regional supply chains. That transition requires investment across the entire value chain. Farmers need access to better technologies and markets. Processors require modern equipment. Manufacturers need ingredients, packaging and quality systems. Logistics companies must develop efficient distribution networks. Food-service businesses need reliable supplies, while
4
consumers ultimately determine which products succeed. The two AFMASS platforms bring many of these players into the same commercial environment. FROM EXHIBITION TO INDUSTRY PLATFORM One of the defining strengths of AFMASS Expos is therefore not simply the number of sectors represented, but the connections created between them. Since its establishment in 2015, the platform has developed into a meeting point where local and international companies can introduce technologies, identify customers, develop distributor relationships, explore new markets and build strategic partnerships. For African manufacturers, the value lies in access to technologies and expertise that can support expansion and modernisation. For international suppliers, AFMASS offers a route into some of the continent’s fastest-growing food and agro-industrial markets. The inclusion of specialised exhibitions also allows participants to engage more directly with their target industries while still benefiting from the wider AFMASS network. BUILDING THE NEXT DECADE OF AFRICAN FOOD MANUFACTURING Eleven editions in, AFMASS Expos have become a reflection of the broader development of Africa’s food and agro-industrial economy. The Nairobi edition demonstrated that the industry’s priorities are expanding. Efficiency, automation, formulation, food safety, packaging, logistics, sustainability and local value addition are no longer isolated conversations. They are increasingly interconnected parts of the same manufacturing strategy. The continued integration of food and beverage technologies with milling, baking and feed solutions also mirrors the growing sophistication of Africa’s food value chains. As the continent moves towards greater processing and value addition, the need for platforms that connect manufacturers with technologies, expertise and investment will only become more important. AFMASS Expos’ 11th edition therefore represented more than another industry gathering. It was a snapshot of an African food industry moving from a largely supply-driven model towards one increasingly defined by innovation, efficiency, technology and regional market opportunity. With its combination of exhibitions, specialised zones, technical sessions, conferences and networking opportunities, AFMASS is positioning itself to remain part of that transformation, providing a marketplace where the technologies of today meet the ambitions of Africa’s food industry for tomorrow.

AFMASS FOOD & BEVTECH EXPO AFMASS Food & BevTech Expo: Connecting Africa’s Food and Beverage Value Chain
A
frica’s food and beverage industry is becoming interconnected. As manufacturers expand local production, develop new products and respond to changing consumer and market demands, the need for ingredients, processing technologies, packaging, testing, logistics and food-service solutions is growing alongside it. AFMASS Food & BevTech Expo has developed around this reality. Held in Nairobi, Kenya, the business-to-business exhibition brings together manufacturers, processors, suppliers, distributors, technology providers and other professionals involved in the food and beverage value chain. The 2026 edition, held from July 15–17 at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi, provided a broad view of this ecosystem. More than 65 exhibitors and 12 sponsors from over 15 countries participated, presenting equipment, ingredients, packaging systems, laboratory technologies, logistics solutions and hospitality products. The scale of the exhibition was significant, but its relevance lay in the connections between the different sectors represented on the floor. AN INTEGRATED FOOD AND BEVERAGE PLATFORM AFMASS Food & BevTech is one of two key events under the wider AFMASS Expos platform, alongside AFMASS Milling & BakeTech Expo. While Milling & BakeTech focuses on grains, milling, feed, agriculture and baking, Food & BevTech is centred on food, beverage, hospitality and supporting industries. Its structure is built around five constituent events: Africa Food & Ingredients Expo, Africa Processing & Packaging Expo, Africa Logistics Expo, Africa LabTech Expo and Africa Hotels & Restaurants Expo. Each addresses a distinct part of the industry, but together they form a more complete picture of how food and beverage businesses operate. Africa Food & Ingredients Expo focuses on ingredients, additives, flavours, colours, functional ingredients and other inputs used in product development and manufacturing. Africa Processing & Packaging Expo brings together processing machinery, production systems, filling and bottling equipment, packaging materials and related technologies. Africa Logistics Expo addresses transportation, warehousing, cold-chain systems, distribution and supplychain services, while Africa LabTech Expo focuses on laboratory equipment, analytical systems, quality assurance, inspection and food safety. Africa Hotels & Restaurants Expo
12
extends the platform into hospitality, catering, restaurants and food-service operations. This integration is increasingly relevant to manufacturers that need to consider several stages of their operations at once. FROM INGREDIENTS TO THE CONSUMER A food or beverage product passes through multiple stages before reaching the consumer. Ingredients and formulations establish the foundation of a product. Processing systems transform those inputs into finished goods, while packaging protects the product and prepares it for storage and distribution. Laboratory and quality-control systems help manufacturers monitor safety, consistency and compliance. Logistics providers move raw materials into factories and finished products towards markets. Hotels, restaurants and caterers represent another important part of the chain, particularly for suppliers serving the food-service sector. Bringing these activities together allows visitors to look beyond individual products and consider how different technologies and services interact. Technology on the exhibition floor: Processing and packaging remain central to AFMASS Food & BevTech. The exhibition provides manufacturers with an opportunity to examine technologies covering production lines, filling and bottling, weighing and dosing, mixing, cooking, drying, refrigeration, automation and packaging. For manufacturers evaluating new equipment, the technology itself is only part of the decision. Installation, maintenance, spare parts, technical support, training, energy consumption and integration with existing systems can all determine whether an investment is commercially viable. The exhibition creates space for those discussions. Manufacturers can engage directly with suppliers, discuss production challenges and understand how technologies may be adapted to different operating environments. Ingredients and product development: The Africa Food & Ingredients Expo component addresses another important area: product development. As consumers and markets evolve, manufacturers are diversifying portfolios and exploring new formulations. Ingredient suppliers can engage with processors around taste, texture, colour, shelf life, nutrition, functionality and cost. The category covers materials ranging from basic raw inputs to specialised additives, flavours, sweeteners, stabilisers and fortification solutions. Bringing these suppliers into the same environment as processing and
packaging companies allows manufacturers to consider product development from a wider perspective. Packaging moves beyond presentation: Packaging is closely connected to product protection, shelf life, transport, storage and convenience. It can also influence production efficiency, brand positioning and cost. Manufacturers must therefore consider more than the appearance of a pack. Material availability, packaging speeds, compatibility with filling lines, product protection and environmental expectations can all influence decisions. Africa Processing & Packaging Expo provides a space for manufacturers to compare packaging technologies and discuss how different formats can fit into existing or planned operations. LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY AND FOOD SAFETY Food safety and quality assurance form another important pillar through Africa LabTech Expo. Manufacturers depend on laboratory and testing systems to monitor raw materials, production processes and finished products. Testing can cover microbiological safety, chemical composition, physical characteristics, shelf life and compliance with relevant standards. Laboratory capabilities also support product development and quality consistency. For businesses supplying retailers, food-service operators or export markets, reliable testing is an important part of meeting customer and regulatory requirements. By placing laboratory technology alongside processing and ingredients, AFMASS Food & BevTech highlights the relationship between production and quality. Increasing output has limited value if manufacturers cannot maintain consistent standards and product safety. THE LOGISTICS LINK Food manufacturing does not end at the factory gate. Products must be stored, transported and delivered efficiently, making logistics a critical part of the value chain. Africa Logistics Expo focuses on warehousing, transportation, cold-chain systems, distribution and inventory management. The logistics component allows businesses to examine an often overlooked part of manufacturing economics: how efficiently products and inputs move through the supply chain. HOSPITALITY COMPLETES THE PICTURE Africa Hotels & Restaurants Expo brings the platform closer to the final stage of the food and beverage journey. Hotels, restaurants, caterers and other food-service businesses require specialised equipment and supplies, from commercial kitchens and refrigeration to food preparation, serving and operational systems. A meeting
place for business: The commercial value of AFMASS Food & BevTech ultimately rests on interaction. Exhibitors have the opportunity to present products, demonstrate technologies and meet prospective customers, while visitors can identify suppliers, compare solutions and discuss potential investments and partnerships. A manufacturer can, within one visit, speak to an ingredient supplier, machinery provider, packaging company, laboratory specialist and logistics operator. That proximity makes the exhibition useful for companies reviewing multiple aspects of their operations. Knowledge alongside exhibition: The conference programme adds another dimension to the event, creating a forum for industry discussions alongside the commercial activity on the exhibition floor. Sessions covering food processing, ingredients, packaging, food safety, laboratory testing, logistics, hospitality, technology adoption and market development provide context for the challenges facing businesses. A REGIONAL PLATFORM AFMASS Food & BevTech has developed beyond its Nairobi base through editions and related events in markets including Tanzania, Zambia and Uganda. This regional approach recognises that Africa’s food and beverage industries are not uniform. Manufacturing capabilities, infrastructure, regulations, consumer markets and supplychain conditions differ considerably between countries. The wider direction is consistent with Africa’s increasing emphasis on local processing and value addition. As businesses build manufacturing capacity, the supporting ecosystem around production will become just as important as the factories themselves. THE NEXT PHASE The 2026 Nairobi edition demonstrated the breadth of the AFMASS Food & BevTech proposition. Its importance lies not simply in the number of companies participating, but in the range of sectors brought into one business environment. With further editions planned across Africa, the platform is continuing to expand its regional reach. The next stage will be measured by how effectively it connects manufacturers with technologies, suppliers, knowledge and commercial opportunities that respond to African market realities. For an industry seeking stronger local manufacturing capabilities, those connections matter. Food & BevTech provides a space where the value chain can meet as a connected system – from ingredients and processing to packaging, testing, logistics, hospitality and, ultimately, the consumer.

The larger events have been held successfully in Kenya (11 editions), Zambia, Tanzania and Uganda, establishing AFMASS as the region’s leading international trade shows and conferences for food and beverage manufacturing, grain milling, animal feed, packaging, logistics, hospitality and related sectors. The Africa Food Ingredients Expo benefits from this established infrastructure and audience reach while delivering targeted content for the ingredients value chain. Beyond the exhibition floor, the event features technical seminars, live product demonstrations and innovation showcases. These sessions address practical challenges in new product development, formulation efficiency, nutritional enhancement, shelf-life extension, clean-label reformulation and responses to plant-based and healthfocused consumer trends. Participants gain actionable insights that translate directly into commercial decisions.

COMPREHENSIVE INGREDIENT SOLUTIONS UNDER ONE ROOF Each edition functions as a comprehensive sourcing and innovation hub connecting global and regional suppliers with Africa’s evolving food, beverage and milling industries. Key categories on display include: Functional and nutritional ingredients such as vitamin and mineral premixes, plant proteins (soy, pea, lentil), dietary fibres and prebiotics, omega-3 oils, essential fats and fortification blends for staple foods. These support product performance, health claims and public nutrition goals. Flavours, fragrances and taste solutions covering natural and artificial flavourings, flavour enhancers, fruit and spice extracts, seasoning blends, taste modulators for salt and sugar reduction, and smoke or grill profiles that improve consumer appeal. Natural colours and clean-label ingredients, including plant-based colours (beetroot, turmeric, spirulina), natural preservatives (vinegar, rosemary extract), clean-label stabilizers and emulsifiers, and organic-certified options that meet rising demand for transparency and simpler ingredient lists. Enzymes and processing aids such as baking enzymes and improver mixes, brewing and dairy enzymes, meat tenderizers, clarification agents and fermentation cultures that enhance efficiency, yield and quality. Sweeteners and sugar alternatives ranging from stevia and monk fruit extracts to high-intensity sweeteners, polyols, glucose and fructose syrups, honey and other natural solutions that help manufacturers reduce sugar without sacrificing taste. Starches, hydrocolloids and texturizers including modified and native starches, gelatin, pectin, gums (xanthan, guar, carrageenan), thickening and binding agents, and fat replacers that deliver desired texture, stability and mouthfeel. Preservatives, food safety and shelf-life solutions encompassing antioxidants, antimicrobials, mould inhibitors, packaging-compatible systems, testing kits and traceability tools critical for safety and market reach. Agricultural raw materials and commodities featuring
both imported and locally sourced items—cassava, sorghum, millet, legumes and derivatives; baobab, moringa and hibiscus extracts; shea, cocoa and coffee derivatives; indigenous spices and herbs; and value-added agricultural ingredients that leverage Africa’s biodiversity for competitive advantage. This breadth allows manufacturers to evaluate complete ingredient systems rather than isolated components, accelerating product development cycles and supply-chain optimization. A HIGH-VALUE, DECISION-MAKING AUDIENCE The Expo attracts a targeted cross-section of professionals who influence formulation, sourcing and commercial strategy. Core attendees include food and beverage manufacturers across dairy, beverages, bakery, snacks, confectionery, milling and meat processing; packaged food producers; private-label and contract manufacturers; startups; and health, wellness and functional food brands. Product development and R&D professionals, food technologists, scientists, new product developers and innovation teams, drive technical engagement. Procurement and sourcing managers, strategic sourcing heads and supply-chain leaders handle supplier selection and purchasing. Senior executives, CEOs, managing directors, general managers, investors and business owners shape long-term direction. Distributors, importers, exporters, regional wholesalers and trading companies expand networks. Quality assurance, food safety and regulatory affairs specialists ensure compliance. Academia, research institutions, universities, government agencies, industry associations and NGOs contribute knowledge and policy perspectives. Consultants and technical service providers advise on formulation, certification and market entry. Retailers and foodservice (HORECA) buyers from supermarket chains, hotels, restaurants and catering operations seek ingredients for their operations. This diverse yet focused audience creates opportunities for collaboration that extend beyond the exhibition hall into ongoing commercial relationships. ADDRESSING AFRICA’S EVOLVING FOOD MANUFACTURING NEEDS Africa’s food and beverage sector is shaped by population growth, urbanisation, rising incomes and shifting consumer preferences toward convenient, nutritious, affordable and increasingly health-oriented products. Manufacturers face simultaneous pressures to improve nutritional profiles, meet clean-label expectations, reduce sugar and salt, extend shelf life under challenging distribution conditions,
strengthen food safety systems and incorporate more sustainable or locally sourced ingredients. The Africa Food Ingredients Expo responds directly to these dynamics by presenting practical solutions, fortification technologies, plant proteins, natural alternatives, processing aids and indigenous ingredients, that help companies innovate while managing cost and compliance. By highlighting Africa’s own botanical and agricultural resources alongside global offerings, the event supports import substitution, value addition and the development of distinctive regional products. KNOWLEDGE EXCHANGE AND STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS Technical seminars and innovation showcases complement the exhibition, enabling dialogue among industry leaders, technical experts, policymakers and researchers on market trends, regulatory developments, sustainability, formulation science and investment opportunities. These conversations help participants make informed decisions and foster continuous improvement across the sector. The co-location within the wider AFMASS Food & BevTech Expos further amplifies value. Participants gain access to adjacent technologies in processing, packaging, laboratory solutions, milling and supply-chain services, reflecting the interconnected nature of modern food manufacturing. Past editions have welcomed leading global and regional ingredient suppliers, reinforcing the platform’s credibility and commercial relevance. LOOKING AHEAD As AFMASS Food & BevTech Expos continue to expand across Eastern, Southern and Western Africa, the Africa Food Ingredients Expo remains a strategic meeting point for launching new solutions, establishing partnerships, strengthening regional supply chains and exploring investment opportunities that contribute to Africa’s industrial growth and food security. Upcoming editions are planned across key markets including Kenya & Eastern Africa, Zambia & Southern Africa, Nigeria & Western Africa, and Tanzania, providing multiple entry points for stakeholders. Through its integration with the broader AFMASS platform and its focus on both global expertise and African resources, the Africa Food Ingredients Expo bridges knowledge and commerce. It helps shape the future of ingredient innovation while supporting the long-term competitiveness and sustainability of Africa’s food and beverage industries. Stakeholders seeking to source, formulate, innovate or invest are invited to participate in the forthcoming editions and engage with this essential platform for the continent’s dynamic food sector.

AFRICA LOGISTICS EXPO Africa Logistics Expo: Connecting Africa's Supply Chains for a Smarter Future
A
cross Africa, conversations about industrial growth often focus on manufacturing, agriculture, and trade. Yet behind every successful factory, retailer, exporter, or food processor is an efficient logistics network that keeps products moving from production lines to consumers and international markets. As regional trade accelerates under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), logistics has become far more than a support function. It is now a strategic driver of competitiveness, helping businesses lower costs, improve delivery times, strengthen supply chain resilience, and unlock new market opportunities. This is the vision behind Africa Logistics Expo, one of the flagship events within the AFMASS Food& BevTech Expo portfolio. A MARKETPLACE FOR AFRICA’S SUPPLY CHAIN INDUSTRY Africa Logistics Expo is designed as more than a traditional trade exhibition. It brings together the wider logistics ecosystem under one roof, connecting logistics providers, transport companies, warehouse operators, ports, manufacturers, retailers, exporters, technology developers, policymakers, investors and financial institutions. This diverse audience reflects the reality of modern supply chains, where no single company operates in isolation. A manufacturer may need reliable transport to bring in raw materials, warehouse space to manage inventory, digital systems to track shipments and efficient distribution networks to reach retailers. An exporter, meanwhile, depends on roads, ports, customs systems, freight forwarders and technology platforms to move products across borders. By bringing these players together, Africa Logistics Expo creates an environment where these connections can happen more easily. The exhibition also provides companies with an opportunity to demonstrate how new technologies and services can address some of the practical challenges facing African supply chains. From reducing transportation costs and improving warehouse efficiency to increasing shipment visibility and strengthening last-mile delivery, the focus is on solutions that can deliver measurable business value. DRIVING AFRICA'S INDUSTRIAL GROWTH The importance of logistics becomes even clearer as
28
Africa seeks to build stronger domestic manufacturing industries. Manufacturers cannot operate efficiently when raw materials arrive late, finished goods remain stuck in warehouses or transportation costs make products uncompetitive. Similarly, farmers and food processors need dependable logistics networks to move perishable products from production areas to processing facilities and markets. According to Francis Juma, CEO of FW Brands MEA, organizers of Africa Logistics Expo, Africa cannot achieve its manufacturing and trade ambitions without efficient logistics and supply chains. “Africa Logistics Expo was created to bring together the innovators, investors, policymakers and businesses that are building the infrastructure and technologies needed to move Africa’s economy forward.” That mission has attracted decision-makers from virtually every industry that depends on reliable supply chains, including food and beverage manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, retail, mining, construction, hospitality, e-commerce and consumer goods. For these sectors, logistics is increasingly becoming a source of competitive advantage. A company that can source materials efficiently, manage inventory accurately and deliver products faster can respond more effectively to changing consumer demand. As African consumers become more connected and increasingly expect convenience, availability and faster delivery, businesses are under pressure to rethink how their supply chains operate. INNOVATION BEYOND TRANSPORTATION While transportation remains at the heart of logistics, industry is undergoing rapid transformation. Businesses are increasingly investing in warehouse automation, smart inventory systems, predictive analytics, digital freight platforms, route optimization software, electric mobility solutions, and environmentally responsible distribution networks. These technologies help companies improve operational efficiency while meeting growing customer expectations for faster, more reliable and sustainable services. One of the fastest-growing areas featured at the expo is cold chain logistics. As Africa's food processing, healthcare and pharmaceutical industries expand, demand for reliable
temperature-controlled storage and transportation continues to rise. Exhibitors showcase refrigeration technologies, insulated transport systems, monitoring solutions and cold storage infrastructure specifically designed for African operating conditions. LEARNING FROM INDUSTRY LEADERS Beyond the exhibition floor, Africa Logistics Expo offers a comprehensive conference programme where industry experts, business executives, policymakers and technology leaders discuss the trends shaping the future of logistics. Sessions explore topics including digital transformation of supply chains, warehouse optimization, last-mile delivery, customs modernization, supply chain resilience, sustainable logistics, infrastructure investment and risk management. The value of these discussions lies in their practical relevance. Rather than focusing only on broad industry trends, delegates can explore the challenges businesses face every day and learn from companies that are already implementing new approaches. For logistics managers and business leaders, this provides an opportunity to benchmark their operations, identify emerging technologies and understand how other companies are responding to similar challenges. CREATING BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES For exhibitors, Africa Logistics Expo provides an opportunity to launch products, showcase services, strengthen customer relationships and explore new African markets. For visitors, it offers access to suppliers and technologies that can help solve real operational challenges. The Kenya & Eastern Africa edition in July 2026 attracted more than 2,000 trade visitors across its colocated exhibitions, creating significant opportunities for networking, knowledge exchange and business development. According to the organizers, the value of the exhibition lies not simply in visitor numbers, but in the quality of the business conversations taking place. “Our goal is not simply to organize an exhibition, but to create an environment where meaningful business conversations happen, investments are initiated, and long-term partnerships are formed. That’s what continues to make Africa Logistics Expo a valuable platform for the industry,” says Juma. This approach reflects the changing role of trade exhibitions in Africa. For an industry as interconnected as logistics, bringing decision-makers together physically can accelerate conversations that might otherwise take months to develop.
A BIGGER AND BETTER 2027 EDITIONS Following the strong momentum of this year's event, and much like the continued growth witnessed at AFRIPACK Expo, the organizers are already preparing an even bigger edition of Africa Logistics Expo next year. Plans are underway to expand the exhibition floor, introduce more international exhibitors, feature new technology showcases, and strengthen the conference programme with additional industry leaders and technical sessions focused on the future of logistics, digital supply chains, sustainable mobility, and smart warehousing. The next edition will also provide greater opportunities for business matchmaking, investor engagement and live technology demonstrations, ensuring participants leave with valuable contacts, practical insights and new commercial opportunities. "Every edition builds on the success of the last one. The enthusiasm from exhibitors, visitors and partners has given us the confidence to deliver an even more impactful Africa Logistics Expo next year. Our objective is to continue creating the continent's premier meeting place for logistics, mobility and supply chain innovation," Juma says. As Africa strengthens regional trade, expands manufacturing capacity and embraces digital transformation, efficient logistics will remain one of the continent's greatest competitive advantages. Africa Logistics Expo continues to position itself at the centre of this transformation by bringing together the technologies, expertise and partnerships needed to build smarter, more resilient and more sustainable supply chains. For logistics providers, manufacturers, distributors, exporters, retailers, technology companies, investors and government agencies, the next edition promises even greater opportunities to connect, innovate and grow. More importantly, the expo reflects a wider shift taking place across Africa's business landscape. As companies expand beyond their traditional markets, the ability to move goods efficiently, track shipments, manage inventory and respond quickly to disruptions will increasingly determine how competitive they can be. Africa Logistics Expo is becoming part of that conversation by creating a meeting point where these challenges can be discussed and practical solutions explored. As the continent works towards a more integrated trading environment, the connections made between logistics providers, manufacturers, technology companies and other stakeholders could help shape the supply chains of the future. And as the continent moves towards a more integrated and industrialized economy, that conversation could not be more timely.

AFRIPACK EXPO AFRIPACK Expo: Driving the Future of Processing & Packaging Technologies in Africa
P
ackaging & processing today sits at the heart of manufacturing strategy, helping businesses improve product quality, strengthen brand identity, reduce operational costs, enhance supply chain efficiency, and meet growing sustainability expectations. As Africa's manufacturing sector continues to expand, packaging & processing has become a critical enabler of competitiveness across industries ranging from food and beverages to pharmaceuticals, personal care, and consumer goods. Driven by rapid urbanization, expanding retail networks, growing exports, and changing consumer lifestyles, demand for smarter, safer, and more sustainable packaging and processing solutions is accelerating across the continent. AFRIPACK Expo has positioned itself at the centre of this transformation, serving as one of Africa's leading platforms where manufacturers, packaging specialists, technology providers, investors, policymakers, and industry leaders come together to explore the innovations shaping the future of packaging. As a constituent event of the AFMASS Food & BrecTech Expo, AFRIPACK Expo provides a unique platform that connects every link in the packaging value chain, from raw material suppliers and machinery manufacturers to processors, brand owners, retailers, and consumers. According to Francis Juma, CEO of FW Brands MEA, the organisers of AFRIPACK Expo, packaging & processing remains one of the most critical components in modern manufacturing because it safeguards product integrity while influencing market success. "Packaging is no longer just about protecting a product. It connects the entire manufacturing value chain—from processors and manufacturers to retailers and consumers. It plays a critical role in ensuring product integrity, improving operational efficiency, supporting sustainability, and enhancing brand competitiveness," says Juma. A ONE-STOP MARKETPLACE FOR PACKAGING & PROCESSING INNOVATION AFRIPACK Expo offers manufacturers a comprehensive
36
marketplace where they can discover the latest packaging technologies and practical business solutions under one roof. From packaging materials and converting technologies to automation and recycling systems, the exhibition showcases innovations designed to help manufacturers improve productivity while meeting evolving consumer and regulatory expectations. Visitors have the opportunity to explore solutions spanning flexible and rigid packaging, carton and corrugated packaging, glass and metal containers, paperbased and biodegradable materials, printing, coding and labelling technologies, packaging machinery, robotics, warehouse automation, quality inspection systems, and circular economy solutions. What sets the exhibition apart is its focus on practical application. Rather than simply displaying equipment, exhibitors demonstrate technologies in action, allowing visitors to compare solutions, engage directly with technical experts, and evaluate systems capable of improving efficiency, reducing waste, lowering production costs, and enhancing product quality. RESPONDING TO AFRICA’S MANUFACTURING BOOM Africa's manufacturing landscape is undergoing rapid transformation. Growing populations, an expanding middle class, stronger regional trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and increasing food safety requirements are driving unprecedented demand for packaged products that are attractive, durable, traceable, and environmentally responsible. At the same time, manufacturers are under increasing pressure to optimise production, comply with evolving regulations, improve resource efficiency, and reduce their environmental footprint without compromising profitability. AFRIPACK Expo addresses these challenges by connecting businesses with cutting-edge technologies that improve productivity, minimise material usage, optimise energy consumption, strengthen product safety, and build more resilient supply chains capable of competing in both regional and global markets.
SUSTAINABILITY TAKES CENTRE STAGE Sustainability has become one of the defining themes of the modern packaging industry, and AFRIPACK Expo reflects this growing priority. Across Africa and internationally, governments, retailers, and consumers are demanding packaging & processing solutions that minimise environmental impact while maintaining product protection and performance. In response, manufacturers are increasingly investing in recyclable materials, compostable packaging, lightweight designs, reusable systems, renewable raw materials, and advanced recycling technologies. The exhibition highlights commercially viable innovations that enable businesses to transition towards circular manufacturing while remaining competitive. Instead of viewing sustainability as merely a regulatory requirement, exhibitors demonstrate how environmentally responsible packaging can drive innovation, operational efficiency, cost savings, and long-term business growth. MORE THAN AN EXHIBITION Beyond the exhibition floor, AFRIPACK Expo delivers valuable industry knowledge through an extensive conference programme featuring leading experts, technology innovators, researchers, policymakers, and business executives. The conference explores key topics including packaging design and innovation, sustainable manufacturing, food safety and regulatory compliance, digital transformation, automation, circular economy strategies, investment opportunities, and emerging market trends. These sessions provide delegates with practical insights and actionable strategies that can be implemented within their own operations, helping businesses remain competitive in an increasingly dynamic manufacturing environment. The event also plays a vital role in strengthening Africa's industrial ecosystem. By bringing together packaging manufacturers, processors, converters, machinery suppliers, logistics companies, recyclers, retailers, brand owners, and end-user industries, AFRIPACK Expo promotes local sourcing, technology transfer, skills development, and strategic partnerships that contribute to stronger regional value chains and greater manufacturing resilience. CREATING BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES For exhibitors, AFRIPACK Expo represents far more than a traditional trade exhibition. It provides direct access to qualified buyers, procurement professionals, factory managers, distributors, and decision-makers from across Eastern, Southern, and Western Africa.
Companies leverage the platform to launch new products, demonstrate advanced technologies, identify distribution partners, generate qualified sales leads, and expand into new regional markets. The face-to-face interactions fostered during the event continue to be one of its greatest strengths, creating business relationships that often evolve into long-term commercial partnerships and investment opportunities. BUILDING ON THE SUCCESS OF 2026 The Kenya & Eastern Africa edition of AFRIPACK Expo concluded successfully on 17 July 2026 at the Sarit Expo Centre in Nairobi after three days of exhibitions, live equipment demonstrations, technical conferences, networking sessions, and high-level business meetings. The event attracted packaging professionals, manufacturers, technology suppliers, investors, and industry stakeholders from across Africa and beyond, further cementing its reputation as one of the continent's premier packaging and processing technology events. The strong turnout and positive business outcomes underscored the growing demand for innovative packaging technologies that can support Africa's industrialisation agenda while addressing sustainability and operational efficiency. LOOKING AHEAD Building on the momentum of the 2026 edition, AFRIPACK Expo returns in 2027 with an expanded calendar that will bring world-class packaging & processing technologies and industry expertise closer to key manufacturing markets across the continent. The upcoming editions will be hosted in Tanzania (March), Kenya (April), Nigeria (May), and Zambia (October), providing even greater opportunities for businesses to engage with emerging markets and forge new commercial partnerships. Whether you are looking to launch innovative products, demonstrate cutting-edge machinery, expand your distribution network, source advanced packaging & processing solutions, or connect with decision-makers shaping Africa's manufacturing future, AFRIPACK Expo offers the ideal platform to achieve your business objectives. “Every edition of AFRIPACK Expo is built around one goal, to create meaningful business connections that accelerate industrial growth across Africa," concludes Juma. "As packaging & processing becomes increasingly central to product quality, sustainability, and global competitiveness, we invite businesses from across the value chain to exhibit, attend, and be part of the conversations and partnerships that will define the future of manufacturing on the continent."

AFRICA LABTECH EXPO Africa Labtech Expo: Strengthening the Science Behind Africa’s Manufacturing Growth
A
cross the continent, factories are expanding, new processing plants are coming up, local brands are becoming more ambitious, and manufacturers are looking beyond their home markets to serve consumers across Africa and beyond. But behind every good product is something that is often not visible to the consumer: a laboratory. Before a bottle of juice reaches a supermarket shelf, before flour is packed or a pharmaceutical product reaches a patient, there is a process of testing, checking and verification. Is the raw material good enough? Is the product safe? Is the quality consistent? Does it meet the required standards? Can the formulation be improved? Is the production process working as it should? These are the questions laboratories help manufacturers answer. This is where Africa LabTech Expo, a constituent event of the AFMASS Food & BevTech Expo, comes into the picture. The exhibition brings laboratory technology, testing, quality assurance and manufacturing professionals closer together, creating a platform for the people who help keep Africa’s production systems safe, efficient and competitive. THE LABORATORY IS PART OF THE FACTORY Conversations about manufacturing in Africa have so far been focused mainly on machinery, factories, raw materials, packaging and production capacity. All of these remain important. But there is another piece of the puzzle: the ability to test, measure and understand what is happening throughout the production process. A modern manufacturing plant cannot rely on guesswork. Food and beverage companies need to test raw materials and finished products. Millers need to understand the quality and performance of grains and flour. Feed manufacturers need to analyse ingredients and nutritional composition. Pharmaceutical companies require rigorous testing at different stages of production. Chemical and environmental industries also depend heavily on analytical capabilities. The laboratory, therefore, is not simply a room somewhere at the back of a factory. It is increasingly becoming part of the decision-making process. When a manufacturer knows exactly what is happening with its raw materials, processes and finished products, it can make better decisions, reduce waste, improve consistency and respond faster when something goes wrong. That is why Africa LabTech Expo matters.
40
BRINGING THE PEOPLE BEHIND MANUFACTURING TOGETHER One of the challenges facing African manufacturing is that different parts of the value chain can sometimes operate in isolation. A laboratory professional may be looking for a particular testing solution. A production manager may be struggling with quality inconsistencies. A procurement manager may be searching for reliable equipment. A technology supplier may have a solution but lack a clear understanding of the realities on the ground. An exhibition provides a place where these conversations can happen face to face. Africa LabTech Expo brings together laboratory equipment manufacturers and suppliers, testing laboratories, quality professionals, food-safety experts, researchers, consultants and technology companies, while connecting them to the wider manufacturing community. The audience also extends beyond laboratories. Food and beverage manufacturers, millers, feed producers, pharmaceutical and chemical companies, agricultural businesses, research institutions, universities, regulators, engineers, procurement teams and plant managers all have a stake in laboratory technology. This is what makes the exhibition particularly relevant to Africa. It is not just about selling laboratory equipment. It is about bringing together the people who make, test, regulate, improve and support the products that Africans consume every day. SOLVING REAL AFRICAN MANUFACTURING CHALLENGES Africa has no shortage of manufacturing ambition. The challenge is often turning that ambition into consistent, commercially viable production. Manufacturers across the continent are dealing with familiar pressures: rising input costs, supply-chain disruptions, increasing competition, changing consumer expectations, stricter quality requirements and the need to produce more while controlling costs. Better testing can help manufacturers identify problems earlier. More efficient analytical systems can shorten testing times. Digital tools can make it easier to collect and manage data. Improved quality-control systems can help reduce rejected batches and unnecessary waste. For a manufacturer operating on tight margins, these improvements can make a real difference. There is also another issue becoming increasingly important: market
access. As African trade becomes more integrated, manufacturers are no longer thinking only about their home markets. Businesses are looking at opportunities across East, West, Central and Southern Africa, while some are also targeting international markets. To compete in these markets, products must meet recognised quality and safety requirements. The ability to demonstrate that quality through reliable testing and documentation can therefore become a business advantage. CONNECTING GLOBAL TECHNOLOGY WITH AFRICAN OPPORTUNITY Another important role of exhibitions such as Africa LabTech Expo is connecting international technology providers with African businesses. Africa is a diverse market. What works for a large multinational factory may not necessarily be the right solution for a medium-sized processor in Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia or Tanzania. Manufacturers need technologies that are not only technically advanced but also practical, affordable to operate and supported by reliable technical expertise. This is where face-to-face engagement becomes important. The wider AFMASS Food Week has built its exhibitions around this kind of interaction, bringing international, regional and local businesses together across Africa’s food, beverage and manufacturing value chains. For LabTech, that creates a valuable opportunity to connect laboratory science with the industries that depend on it. BUILDING A STRONGER MANUFACTURING ECOSYSTEM Perhaps the biggest strength of Africa LabTech Expo is that it does not exist in isolation. It is part of the wider AFMASS Food & BevTech Expo ecosystem, where laboratory technology sits alongside processing, packaging, ingredients, engineering, logistics, milling, feed and other parts of the manufacturing chain. Manufacturing does not happen in silos. A food processor needs good ingredients. It needs the right processing equipment. It needs appropriate packaging. It needs reliable logistics. It needs quality control. It needs skilled people. If one part of that chain is weak, the entire operation can feel the impact. Bringing these industries together creates opportunities for collaboration that may not happen when each sector operates separately. For Africa, where building stronger local and regional value chains is increasingly important, these connections matter. 2027: THE OPPORTUNITY GETS BIGGER
If previous editions have demonstrated the appetite for technology, networking and business development, 2027 promises to take that opportunity even further. The AFMASS Food Week programme is expanding its regional footprint, with planned events in Tanzania, Kenya, Nigeria and Zambia. This wider reach means more manufacturers, technology providers, laboratory professionals, researchers and industry stakeholders will have opportunities to meet and exchange ideas. For Africa LabTech Expo, the expansion is particularly significant. Africa does not have one manufacturing story. The challenges faced by a food processor in East Africa may differ from those of a manufacturer in West Africa or Southern Africa. Yet there are also many common needs: better quality, stronger testing capabilities, improved food safety, more efficient production and access to technologies that can help businesses compete. A broader regional platform creates room for those conversations while giving technology providers a clearer view of where new opportunities are emerging. Africa LabTech Expo is positioning itself within that journey. And with the AFMASS platform heading into a bigger 2027 programme, the expectation is not simply for another successful exhibition. It is for more conversations, more partnerships, more technology, more knowledge-sharing and, ultimately, a stronger manufacturing ecosystem across Africa and the wider Middle East and Africa region. As the continent’s manufacturing base continues to evolve, the importance of reliable laboratory capabilities will only become greater. Manufacturers will need faster and more accurate ways to understand their raw materials, monitor production, verify product quality and meet the standards required by increasingly competitive markets. At the same time, technology providers will need to understand the practical realities of African manufacturers and develop solutions that can support businesses at different stages of growth. By bringing science, technology and manufacturing closer together, Africa LabTech Expo can help turn laboratory capabilities from a behind-the-scenes function into a more visible part of Africa’s industrial growth story. Because behind every product Africa wants to manufacture at scale, there has to be confidence in what is inside it. And that confidence begins in the laboratory. As this ecosystem continues to mature, laboratories will no longer be viewed only as compliance checkpoints, but as strategic enablers of innovation, efficiency and competitiveness. From food safety and pharmaceuticals to industrial manufacturing and environmental testing, stronger lab systems will directly influence how quickly African industries can scale and compete globally.
