HOW FESTIVALS CELEBRATIONS FOSTER HARMONY AND EMBODY ‘UNITY IN DIVERSITY’
In an increasingly globalized world often marked by fragmentation and conflict, festivals and celebrations emerge as powerful, unifying forces. They transcend mere social gatherings, acting as a profound mechanism for integrating diverse communities, fostering harmony, and spreading the spirit of brotherhood. This elaborate article delves into the critical role of festivals in bridging cultural divides. It explores how these shared moments of joy, ritual, and reflection dismantle barriers, promote mutual respect, and vividly illustrate the principle of 'Unity in Diversity.' Drawing upon examples from various cultures, it analyzes the psychological, social, and cultural impacts of collective celebrations, demonstrating their enduring power to create a more cohesive and harmonious society.
The Universal Language of Celebration: Human connection through ritual: Begin by establishing the fundamental human need for ritual and collective experience. From ancient solstice celebrations to modern national holidays, celebrations have always served as a focal point for communities. Defining the power of festivals: Define a festival not just as an event, but as a liminal space—a time outside the ordinary—where social norms can be temporarily suspended and new connections forged. This is where people step out of their daily routines and
engage with their neighbors in a new, shared context. The promise of 'Unity in Diversity': Introduce the core theme of the article: how celebrations actively embody and promote the principle of 'Unity in Diversity.' This principle acknowledges and respects cultural differences while celebrating a shared humanity.
The Psychological Foundation of Collective Joy: The release of dopamine and oxytocin: Explain the neurochemical basis of shared celebration. The act of celebrating together releases "feel-good" chemicals like dopamine and oxytocin, which foster feelings of trust, bonding, and connection.
Breaking down the "us vs. them" mentality: Discuss how the celebratory mood and collective activities, like music, dance, and feasting, reduce social anxiety and dissolve the psychological barriers that separate people based on cultural or ethnic identity. Creating a shared emotional memory: Emphasize how a shared experience, particularly a positive and emotionally charged one like a festival, creates a collective memory that serves as a powerful anchor for community identity. When people recall the joy of a festival, they recall it not just as an individual, but as part of a larger, unified group.
The Social Mechanics of Integration and Harmony: The 'open house' tradition as a bridge: Use the Malaysian "open house" tradition as a prime example of proactive intercultural engagement. During festivals like Hari Raya, Chinese New Year, and Deepavali, families of different ethnicities visit each other's homes, sharing food and good wishes. This simple act of hospitality builds bridges and normalizes cross-cultural interaction.
Cultural exchange through food and art: Detail how food and art are non-verbal languages of cultural exchange. A Chinese Malaysian offering Kuih Bahulu to a Malay neighbor, or an Indian family sharing biryani, is a powerful gesture of inclusion. Similarly, festivals showcase diverse art forms, allowing people to appreciate and understand the aesthetic sensibilities of different cultures.
Community participation and collective action: Explain how festivals require collective effort for planning, preparation, and execution. This collaborative process, from organizing a parade to preparing a community feast, forces people from different backgrounds to work towards a common goal, breaking down silos and building trust.
EDITOR -IN - CHIEF From the Desk of
Perfect Examples of 'Unity in Diversity': Diwali in India: The festival of lights: Elaborate on how Diwali, a Hindu festival, is celebrated by people of all faiths in India and the diaspora. The sharing of sweets, the lighting of diyas, and the visiting of homes transcend religious lines, creating a shared experience of light triumphing over darkness. Mention events like the FemTech India x Coro Spaces: Diwali Gathering, which unite professionals from diverse backgrounds to celebrate the festival.
Carnival in Brazil: A celebration of heritage: Discuss how the Brazilian Carnival, particularly in cities like Salvador, is a melting pot of African, Portuguese, and indigenous influences. The festival's music, dance, and parade floats celebrate a shared national identity forged from a diverse heritage.
The Indo-Nepal Cultural Fest: Use the Indo-Nepal Cultural Fest as a modern example of two nations coming together to celebrate shared music, food, and culture. This showcases how festivals can foster international brotherhood and mutual respect.
Beyond the Surface: Overcoming Challenges: Addressing the commodification of culture: Acknowledge the challenge of commercialization, where the deeper meaning of festivals can be lost. Discuss the importance of retaining the core values and traditions that make these celebrations meaningful. The role of conscious celebration: Emphasize the importance of intentional and mindful celebration. To truly foster unity, celebration must move beyond mere attendance to active engagement and a willingness to learn about and respect other traditions. Using festivals to address social issues: Highlight how festivals can be used as platforms to address social issues and promote positive change. For example, the Telangana International Kite Festival, which focused on the empowerment of the girl child, shows how celebrations can serve a higher purpose.
The Future of Festivals: A Force for Global Harmony: Festivals in a digital age: Discuss the evolution of festivals in the digital age, where social media can amplify celebrations and connect people globally. While this presents new opportunities, it also raises questions about the nature of community in a virtual world. The role of youth in preserving traditions: Emphasize the importance of involving younger generations
DR. S. E. ALEXANDER Global Media Chief & MD
in the preservation and evolution of festival traditions. This ensures that the lessons of unity and heritage are passed down and remain relevant in a changing world. Festivals as a model for peace: Conclude by reiterating the profound potential of festivals as a model for creating a more peaceful and integrated world. By practicing brotherhood and "Unity in Diversity" during these special times, we can carry that spirit into our everyday lives.
IN SHORT: The Echo of Joy and the Promise of Unity: Recap the power of
shared celebration: Summarize the key arguments: festivals are psychologically and socially powerful tools for unity, they dismantle barriers, and they provide a platform for cultural exchange. A call to celebrate consciously: End with a strong final thought, encouraging readers to engage with festivals not just as spectators, but as active participants, seeking to understand and connect with those around them. The true magic of celebration lies in its ability to remind us that despite our differences; we are all part of one human family.

WHO PREQUALIFIES SHANCHOL® ORAL CHOLERA VACCINE, ENSURING GLOBAL SUPPLY CONTINUITY
Shanchol®, the oral cholera vaccine originally developed by Shantha Biotechnics, has received prequalification from the World Health Organization (WHO). This milestone enables global procurement agencies such as UNICEF, Gavi, and PAHO to source Shanchol® for use in countries where cholera remains a major public health challenge. “Shanchol® was conceived as an affordable, accessible solution for countries facing repeated cholera outbreaks. The WHO prequalification of vaccine carries forward that founding mission,” said Dr. K.I. Varaprasad Reddy, Founder of Shantha Biotechnics. Over the years, close to 40 million doses of Shanchol® have been supplied worldwide through UNICEF-led vaccination campaigns.
After production was paused under its former ownership, GCBC Vaccines Pvt. Ltd. (formerly Shantha)- has resumed manufacturing, with WHO conducting an on-site inspection and transferring the prequalification. Shanchol® remains the only oral cholera vaccine manufactured in India with WHO prequalification, underscoring India’s critical role in ensuring continuity of global supply.
“As part of the founding family of Gland Pharma, I have seen how world-class sterile manufacturing from India can transform global healthcare. By resuming production of Shanchol®, we are bringing the same rigor and reliability to ensure this life-saving vaccine remains available worldwide,” said Dr. Ravi Penmetsa, Managing Director, GCBC Vaccines Pvt. Ltd. “This milestone underscores Shantha’s renewed commitment to global health. Our focus is on ensuring that vaccines like Shanchol® reach the countries that need them most, reliably and affordably. At the same time, we are working to bring other affordable and innovative vaccines from our pipeline to global markets, continuing Shantha’s tradition of expanding access to life-saving
immunization,” said Dr. Vishy Chebrol, Executive Director, GCBC Vaccines Pvt. Ltd.
About Shanchol®
Shanchol® is a bivalent killed wholecell oral cholera vaccine, effective against Vibrio cholerae O1 and O139. It has been a cornerstone of UNICEFcoordinated outbreak responses and preventive immunization campaigns, protecting millions of people worldwide. With WHO PQ approval, Shanchol® will continue to be supplied at scale to international demand and to meet country-level immunization needs.
About The Manufacturer
Shanchol® was originally developed by Shantha Biotechnics, founded in the 1990s as one of India’s pioneering biotech firms. The company was acquired by Sanofi in 2009, gaining global recognition as a trusted vaccine supplier. In 2024, Shantha’s facilities including Shanchol®, were acquired by GCBC Vaccines Pvt. Ltd. Today Shantha’s legacy is continued, through the revival of the company and its mission to deliver high-quality, affordable vaccines that expand access to life-saving immunization worldwide.
CHENNAI’S SCOOP DAWG USHERS IN THE FESTIVE SEASON WITH MITHAI MADNESS
As the festive season draws near, India slips into its sweetest rhythm — homes lit with diyas, air rich with the scent of celebrations, and mithai boxes passed from hand to hand as gestures of love. Sweets have always been at the heart of our traditions, but this year, Chennai’s Scoop Dawg is reimagining them in the coolest way possible. Launched in time for the festivities, Mithai Madness is a flavour that transforms nostalgia into indulgence. Velvety Belgian chocolate ice cream forms the base, studded generously with buttery kaju katli, golden roasted cashews, and crunchy butterscotch bits. It’s a symphony of textures and memories — the richness of mithai, the bite of nuts, the sweetness of candy, and the depth of fine chocolate. Every spoonful feels like a festive celebration in itself, familiar yet thrillingly new.
Launched earlier this year, Scoop Dawg has quickly become Chennai’s most exciting dessert disrup-tor — known for turning ice cream into cultural experiences that speak directly to a generation hungry for flavour and story. With Mithai Madness, the brand brings that ethos to the festive ta-ble, proving that tradition and innovation don’t just coexist — they can taste extraordinary togeth-er.
This festive season, Mithai Madness isn’t just another flavour. It’s Scoop Dawg’s ode to India’s sweetest traditions, crafted for moments of celebration, connection, and joy.

World Ayurveda Day 2025 marks a major milestone as, for the first time, the observance will take place on a fixed date, September 23 each year, following a notification issued by the Ministry of Ayush earlier this year. Since its inception nearly a decade ago, Ayurveda Day has been celebrated annually, but this shift provides the observance with a permanent place in the global calendar. This year’s theme, “Ayurveda for People and Planet,” emphasizes Ayurveda’s contribution not only to individual health but also to environmental sustainability and collective well-being.
Ayurveda, rooted in the Vedas, is among the world’s oldest living health traditions. It emphasizes prevention, balance of body and mind, and alignment with natural law. The system’s global relevance continues to expand. According to Fortune Business Insights, the Ayurveda market was valued at USD 6.7 billion in 2023 and is projected to reach USD 21.1 billion by 2032, with a CAGR of 13.3 percent. The World Health Organization includes Ayurveda within its Traditional Medicine Strategy, with more than 170 member states reporting the use of traditional medicine in their health systems.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
The Ministry of Ayush has reinforced this momentum by prioritizing research, clinical validation, and international collaborations to strengthen Ayurveda’s standing worldwide.
The modern revival of Ayurveda owes much to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, who in the late 20th century collaborated with India’s foremost Vaidyas to restore the system’s authenticity and integrity. He emphasized standardization, training, and scientific validation, reintroducing Panchakarma centers internationally, reviving pulse diagnosis (Nadi Vigyan), and bringing classical herbal formulations back into mainstream use. His efforts helped position Ayurveda not only as India’s heritage but as a universal science of health.
Dr. Tony Nader, neuroscientist and successor to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, said, “Ayurveda is not only an ancient Indian system of medicine — it is a timeless science of life. Rooted in the Vedas, it provides profound knowledge on how to live in harmony with natural law. From personalized nutrition and seasonal cleansing to mind–body integration, Ayurveda offers practical solutions urgently needed in today’s world. On this first fixeddate World Ayurveda Day, we are reminded that true health lies in balance — within ourselves and with our environment.” Scientific validation continues to reinforce
Ayurveda’s relevance. Peerreviewed studies on Panchakarma therapies have shown measurable reductions in toxins, while the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology have included Transcendental Meditation — a Vedic practice aligned with Ayurvedic principles — in their guidelines for managing hypertension.
As the world observes World Ayurveda Day 2025, the day not only honors a 5,000-year-old heritage but also underlines Ayurveda’s expanding role in preventive and integrative health for the future.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi (born Mahesh Prasad Varma, 12 January 1911) was the creator of Transcendental Meditation (TM) and leader of the worldwide organization that has been characterized in multiple ways, including as a new religious movement and as non-religious. He became known as Maharishi (meaning "great seer")and Yogi as an adult.
After earning a degree in physics at Allahabad University in 1942, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi became an assistant and disciple of Swami Brahmananda Saraswati (also known as Guru Dev), the Shankaracharya (spiritual leader) of the Jyotir Math in the Indian Himalayas. The Maharishi credits Brahmananda Saraswati with inspiring his teachings. In 1955, the Maharishi began to introduce his Transcendental Deep Meditation (later renamed Transcendental Meditation) to India and the world. His first global tour began in 1958. His devotees referred to him as His Holiness, and because he laughed frequently in early TV interviews, he was sometimes referred to as the "giggling guru."
The Maharishi trained more
than 40,000 TM teachers, taught the Transcendental Meditation technique to "more than five million people" and founded thousands of teaching centres and hundreds of colleges, universities and schools, while TM websites report that tens of thousands have learned the TMSidhi programme. His initiatives include schools and universities with campuses in several countries, including India, Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom and Switzerland. The Maharishi, his family and close associates created charitable organisations and forprofit businesses, including health clinics, mail-order health supplement stores and organic farms.
The reported value of the Maharishi's organization has ranged from the millions to billions of U.S. dollars; in 2008, the organization placed the value of their United States assets at about $300 million. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, the Maharishi achieved fame as the guru to the Beatles, the Beach Boys, and other celebrities. In the late 1970s, he started the TM-Sidhi programme, which proposed to improve the mind–body relationship of practitioners through techniques such as Yogic flying. The Maharishi's Natural Law Party
was founded in 1992 and ran campaigns in dozens of countries. He moved to near Vlodrop, the Netherlands, in the same year. In 2000, he created the Global Country of World Peace, a nonprofit organization, and appointed its leaders. In 2008, the Maharishi announced his retirement from all administrative activities and went into silence until his death three weeks later.

Kareena Kapoor Khan Channeled Fierce
Glamour In A Leopard-Print Sabyasachi Sari
Styled by Rhea Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan’s ensemble at a recent event spotlighted Indian craftsmanship while maintaining a distinctly contemporary edge. Kapoor Khan wore a leopardprint sari by Sabyasachi, draped in a fluid, contemporary manner. The ensemble featured a deepcut blouse and a soft, pleated fall. A cape-style layer added movement and a touch of modern drama while maintaining the traditional form of the sari. The print, a mix of deep ochre and black, was offset by maximalist jewellery, establishing a visual harmony between fabric and embellishment.
Her jewels, high-jewellery and heritage pieces, also from Sabyasachi, were central to the look. She wore a statement necklace crafted in gold and set with sapphires, emeralds, tourmalines, garnets, turquoises, pearls, and diamonds. The earrings, from the High Jewellery collection, were made in 18-carat gold with turquoise and brilliantcut diamonds. Her ring featured emerald, sapphire, turquoise, tourmaline, iolite, coral, pearl and diamonds. Kapoor Khan’s wedding ring fit seamlessly alongside the Sabyasachi pieces, creating continuity rather than contrast. Her makeup focused on bronzed tones. She defined her eyes with smoked kohl and a diffused copper shadow, paired with curled lashes and softly
filled brows. Her skin remained luminous with a light contour and satin finish. Her lips were painted in a rose shade with subtle shimmer, complementing the warm tones of the ensemble. She kept her hair open, centreparted and blow-dried smooth with a natural sheen—simplicity juxtaposed against the ornate accessories. Her nails were short and finished in a neutral tone, keeping attention on the adornments and attire. She wore pointed-toe black heels with eye-catching bright red soles, a minimal choice that maintained line and proportion within the overall styling. The collaboration between Kareena Kapoor Khan and Sabyasachi reflected a shared vision of grace rooted in craft, detailing and timeless design.

FNH - FASHION & TRENDS
EVOLUTION OF EYEWEAR FASHION
The Journey of Women’s Eyewear from 2024 to 2025
The transition from 2024 to 2025 has witnessed a remarkable evolution in women’s eyewear. While 2024 embraced functionality with a touch of flair, 2025 pushes boundaries further by seamlessly blending practicality with bold artistic expression. The pandemicera emphasis on eye-focused fashion continues to influence designs, with eyewear firmly established as the centrepiece of facial aesthetics.
The most notable shift has been the industry’s move toward inclusivity and personalization. Brands are increasingly designing collections that cater to diverse face shapes, skin tones, and personal styles. This consumer-centric approach has resulted in more versatile frame options that complement a wider range of features, moving away from the one-size-fits-all mentality of previous decades. Technology integration has also accelerated, with smart features becoming more discreet and sophisticated. Unlike the bulky tech-enabled frames of previous years, 2025’s smart eyewear incorporates features like UV protection indicators, blue light filtering, and even subtle audio capabilities without compromising on style or comfort.
Influence of Runway Fashion on Eyewear Trends
The symbiotic relationship between high fashion and eyewear has never been stronger. Major fashion houses like Prada, Gucci, and Balenciaga have elevated eyewear from mere accessories to runway centerpieces, influencing the broader market’s direction. The Spring/Summer 2025 collections showcased a fascinating juxtaposition of futuristic elements with nostalgic references. Designers experimented with unconventional shapes and proportions, presenting oversized shields alongside delicate wire frames within the same collection.
This creative tension between maximalist and minimalist approaches has trickled down to mainstream eyewear brands, offering consumers the freedom to express different facets of their personality through their glasses. Fashion week events in Paris, Milan, and New York highlighted the growing importance of sustainability in luxury eyewear. Prestigious brands introduced bio-based acetates, recycled metals, and innovative production processes that minimize environmental impact without compromising on luxury appeal. This high-fashion endorsement of eco-conscious materials has accelerated adoption across all market segments.
Celebrity Eyewear Influences
Celebrity influence continues to drive eyewear trends, with social media amplifying their impact. Unlike previous years where a single style might dominate, 2025 sees multiple celebrityendorsed trends coexisting, reflecting the current fashion landscape’s celebration of individuality. Influential figures like Zendaya have popularized bold architectural frames that make a statement, while others like Timothée Chalamet have championed vintage-inspired round glasses with contemporary updates. K-pop stars continue to drive Asian-
influenced eyewear trends globally, with delicate-coloured frames and gradient lenses gaining popularity across markets previously dominated by more conservative styles. Award shows and red-carpet events have become showcases for eyewear as much as for clothing and jewellery. Celebrities are increasingly partnering with eyewear designers to create signature collections that reflect their personal aesthetic while incorporating 2025’s trending elements. These collaborations blur the line between high fashion and accessible eyewear, creating aspirational yet attainable styles for consumers.
FRAME SHAPES AND DESIGNS
Oversized Frames vs. Minimalist Styles
The duality of 2025’s eyewear landscape is perhaps most evident in
the simultaneous popularity of both oversized statement frames and ultraminimalist designs. This contrast offers consumers the flexibility to choose based on occasion, outfit, or mood. Oversized frames have evolved from the heavy, dominating styles of previous years to more refined interpretations. The new oversized aesthetic features thoughtfully balanced proportions with thinner profiles and lighter materials, making them more wearable
for everyday use. These frames create a bold look without overwhelming the wearer’s features, often incorporating subtle design elements rather than relying solely on size for impact. At the opposite end of the spectrum, minimalist frames continue their strong presence with an emphasis on precision engineering and clean lines. Rimless and semi-rimless designs have made a sophisticated comeback, updated with advanced materials that ensure durability despite their delicate appearance. These understated frames appeal to professionals and those who prefer their eyewear to complement rather than dominate their look. The beauty of 2025’s trend landscape is that neither approach is considered more fashionable than the other – it’s the intentionality behind the choice that matters. Many fashion-forward consumers are building eyewear wardrobes with both statement and subtle options to suit different aspects of their lives.
Geometric and Asymmetrical Innovations
Geometric frames have transcended their novelty status to become established classics with continuous innovation. The hexagonal and octagonal shapes that gained traction in previous years have evolved into more complex polygonal designs that create visual interest while flattering facial features. The most exciting development in this category is the rise of intentional asymmetry. Designers are playing with uneven proportions, off-center elements, and frames that feature different shapes or thicknesses on each side.
These subtle asymmetries create dynamic looks that change depending on the angle, adding an element of surprise to otherwise familiar shapes. Architectural influences are evident in the structural elements incorporated into 2025’s geometric frames. Inspired by contemporary buildings and sculptures, these designs feature unexpected angles, floating elements, and innovative hinge mechanisms that make them as interesting when removed as when worn. This attention to detail elevates eyewear to the status of wearable art.
Retro Revivals with Modern Twists
Nostalgia continues to influence eyewear design, with several decades experiencing simultaneous revivals. However, 2025’s approach to retro styles is distinctly forward-looking, incorporating contemporary materials, technologies, and proportions. The 1970s influence is evident in the return of oversized aviators and gradient lenses, updated with lightweight materials and more flattering proportions. The 1990s minimalism has inspired sleek
rectangular frames and tinted lenses, while Y2K aesthetics have brought back rimless styles and colourful tints with modern clarity and UV protection. What makes these revivals feel fresh is the selective adaptation rather than direct replication. Designers are extracting the most flattering and distinctive elements from each era while leaving behind the limitations of past technologies. The result is eyewear that evokes nostalgia while offering superior comfort, durability, and protection compared to the original inspirations. For wholesale buyers, this trend presents an opportunity to curate collections that appeal to different generations – from those who experienced these styles the first time around to younger
consumers discovering them as fresh innovations.
MATERIALS AND TEXTURES
Sustainable Materials in Eyewear
Sustainability has moved from a niche concern to a fundamental consideration in eyewear design for 2025. The industry has made remarkable progress in developing eco-friendly alternatives to traditional petroleum-based acetates and energy-intensive metals. Bioacetates derived from renewable sources like cotton and wood pulp have reached new levels of quality and colour stability, allowing for vibrant, durable frames with significantly reduced environmental impact. These materials now perform comparably to traditional acetates while biodegrading at end-of-life, addressing concerns about eyewear’s contribution to plastic pollution. Recycled materials have also seen significant innovation, with advanced processing techniques allowing for the transformation of ocean plastic, discarded fishing nets, and postconsumer waste into premium frame materials. The aesthetic quality of these recycled materials has improved dramatically, with manufacturers developing techniques to create consistent colours and textures that rival virgin materials.
For wholesale buyers, sustainable eyewear represents both an ethical choice and a business opportunity. Consumer demand for environmentally responsible products continues to grow, with many willing to pay a premium for glasses that align with their values. Brands that can authentically communicate their sustainability efforts are gaining market share across price points.
Mixed-Material Frames Gaining Popularity
The combination of different materials within a single frame has emerged as one of 2025’s most
distinctive eyewear trends. These hybrid designs offer unique aesthetic possibilities while allowing designers to leverage the specific properties of different materials for optimal performance. Popular combinations include acetate fronts with metal temples for a balance of comfort and durability, or titanium core structures wrapped in natural materials like wood or horn for lightweight strength with organic warmth. These mixed-material approaches enable frames that would be impossible to create from a single substance, expanding the creative possibilities for designers. Beyond aesthetics, this trend reflects a functional approach to
frame construction. Materials are selected not just for their appearance but for how they perform in specific areas of the frame – flexible metals where movement is needed, durable acetates where strength is required, and comfortable materials at contact points with the face. For consumers, these mixed-material frames offer the best of all worlds – the distinctive appearance of natural materials with the reliability of modern synthetics, or the lightweight comfort of titanium with the customizable colours of acetate.
Textured Finishes and Embellishments
Texture has become a key differentiator in 2025’s eyewear landscape, with designers exploring tactile finishes that add dimension
and character to frames. Matte surfaces continue their popularity for their sophisticated appearance and fingerprint resistance, now joined by selective gloss elements for contrast. Tactile textures inspired by natural materials – from subtle wood grain patterns to stone-like surfaces – add depth and interest even to monochromatic frames. These textures are achieved through advanced melding techniques and specialized coatings that create consistent, durable finishes resistant to wear. Embellishments have evolved from the obvious logos and decorative elements of previous years
to more integrated design features. Inlaid materials, subtle colour transitions, and precisely placed metallic accents add luxury touches without overwhelming the frame design. Even at higher price points, the trend is toward understated elegance rather than ostentatious branding. For wholesale buyers, these textured and embellished frames offer excellent differentiation opportunities. The subtle variations in finish and detail create distinctive products that stand out in retail environments without requiring radical shape innovations that might limit their appeal.
COLOUR TRENDS AND LENS INNOVATIONS
Bold Colour Palettes vs. Subtle Tones
The colon story for 2025’s eyewear market embraces both ends of the spectrum – vibrant, saturated hues that make a statement and refined neutrals that offer versatile elegance. This diversity allows brands to create cohesive collections with broad appeal. Bold colours drawing inspiration from digital art and virtual environments are making a strong showing, with electric blues, vivid purples, and rich emerald greens appearing in both full frames and as accents. These colours appeal particularly to younger consumers and those who view their eyewear as an extension of their personal brand. At the same time, sophisticated neutrals have evolved beyond basic black and tortoiseshell. Warm honey tones, soft greys with subtle undertones, and transparent frames with just a hint of colour offer understated options that complement rather than compete with the wearer’s features. These refined colours appeal to professionals and those who prefer investment pieces with longevity. The most innovative approach to colour in 2025 is the use of color transitions and gradients within a single frame.
Techniques that allow colours to flow seamlessly from one shade to another create unique pieces that catch the light differently from every angle.
Gradient and Tinted Lens Trends
Lens colours have moved beyond their functional origins to become a key fashion element in 2025. Gradient tints that transition from darker at the top to clearer at the bottom provide both style and practical benefits, reducing glare from overhead light while maintaining clear vision for reading or screen use. Colourtinted lenses in subtle hues like rose, champagne, and pale blue add a fashion dimension while offering specific benefits – rose tints enhance contrast, blue tints reduce digital eye strain, and yellow tints improve visibility in low light. These functional benefits provide consumers with practical justification for fashion-forward choices. The most sophisticated lens trend combines gradient effects with color transitions, creating multi-dimensional looks that change depending on lighting and viewing angle. These complex tints require advanced manufacturing techniques but create distinctive eyewear that stands out in a crowded market. For prescription
wearers, improvements in lens technology have made these fashion tints more accessible than ever, with better color consistency across different prescription strengths and reduced distortion in curved lenses.
Smart Lens Technology Advancements
The integration of technology into eyewear lenses has accelerated in 2025, with innovations that enhance both function and convenience without compromising style. Photochromic lenses have reached new levels of responsiveness, transitioning more quickly between indoor and outdoor settings and offering better color consistency
in their darkened state. Blue light filtering has become standard in many premium lenses, with new formulations that provide protection without the noticeable yellow tint of earlier versions. These lenses appeal to consumers concerned about digital eye strain and sleep disruption from screen exposure. The most cutting-edge development is the integration of selective filtering technologies that can be adjusted via smartphone apps, allowing wearers to customize their visual experience based on activity and environment. These programmable lenses can enhance contrast for driving, reduce glare for computer work, or optimize color perception for specific activities.
For wholesale buyers, these technological advancements represent significant value-added opportunities. Consumers are increasingly willing to invest in eyewear that offers tangible benefits beyond basic vision correction or sun protection, creating opportunities for premium positioning and higher margins.
GLOBAL SOURCES FOR TRENDING EYEWEAR
How Global Sources Connects Retailers with Quality Eyewear Manufacturers
In the competitive eyewear market of 2025, securing reliable manufacturing partners who can deliver on-trend designs with consistent quality is essential for retailers and brands. Global Sources has established itself as the premier platform connecting buyers with verified eyewear manufacturers,
particularly those specializing in the latest women’s styles. The platform’s specialized eyewear category brings together manufacturers from traditional production hubs like Italy and China alongside emerging centers in Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe. This diverse supplier base ensures buyers can find partners that match their specific requirements for design capabilities, minimum order quantities, price points, and sustainability credentials.
Global Sources’ digital showrooms allow buyers to efficiently evaluate potential manufacturing partners, viewing detailed product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and certification
information before initiating contact. This streamlined approach reduces the time and resources traditionally required for supplier sourcing, allowing retailers to respond more quickly to emerging trends. For manufacturers, Global Sources provides access to a global buyer network actively seeking new products and partnerships. The platform’s targeted marketing ensures that innovative designs and capabilities reach relevant decision-makers, creating opportunities for growth and international expansion.
Global Sources’ Verification Process for Eyewear Suppliers
In an industry where quality and compliance are paramount, Global Sources’ rigorous verification process provides buyers with confidence when selecting manufacturing partners. The multi-step verification includes physical factory audits, business registration verification, and assessment of production capabilities specific to eyewear manufacturing. For eyewear suppliers, this verification covers critical areas including optical quality control processes, materials testing capabilities, and compliance with international safety standards. Suppliers are evaluated on their ability to produce frames that meet both aesthetic and functional requirements, with particular attention to durability, comfort, and consistency across production runs.
The verification process also assesses suppliers’ design capabilities and flexibility, identifying those able to adapt quickly to changing trends or develop custom designs based on buyer specifications. This information helps match buyers with manufacturers whose capabilities align with their specific needs, whether for trend-driven fast fashion or premium quality investment pieces. In 2025’s increasingly regulated market, compliance verification has become especially valuable. Global Sources evaluates suppliers’ adherence to material safety regulations, labeling requirements, and sustainability certifications, helping buyers navigate the complex landscape of international compliance.
Navigating Eyewear Trade Shows and Exhibitions
Hosted by Global Sources
While digital sourcing has become increasingly sophisticated, inperson events remain invaluable for evaluating eyewear products where tactile qualities and visual details are essential. Global Sources’ specialized eyewear exhibitions bring together manufacturers and buyers in carefully curated environments designed to facilitate productive business relationships.
These events feature dedicated trend zones showcasing the latest innovations in women’s eyewear, from emerging frame shapes to new material applications and technological integrations. Expertled seminars provide insights into regional market preferences, consumer behavior trends, and forecasts for upcoming seasons, helping buyers make informed purchasing decisions.
The exhibition format allows buyers to physically handle sample products, assessing weight, comfort, and finish quality in ways that digital showrooms cannot replicate. For eyewear specifically, this hands-on evaluation is crucial for judging how frames sit on the face, how hinges function, and how colors appear under different lighting conditions. Global Sources’ hybrid approach combines these physical exhibitions with year-round digital access, allowing relationships initiated at trade shows to continue developing between events.
This integrated model has proven particularly effective for the eyewear industry, where seasonal trends require regular sourcing updates but long-term supplier relationships deliver the best results.
Customization Options Available Through Global Sources’ Network
The growing consumer demand for personalized products has made customization capabilities a key differentiator for eyewear suppliers. Global Sources has responded by highlighting manufacturers offering various levels of customization, from simple logo application to fully bespoke frame development.
Through the platform, buyers can identify suppliers offering services such as custom colorways for existing designs, material substitutions to meet specific price points or sustainability goals, and adjustments to standard sizing to better fit target demographics. These semi-custom options allow retailers to offer distinctive products without the investment required for fully custom development. For brands seeking complete differentiation, Global Sources connects buyers with manufacturers capable of developing proprietary designs from concept to production. These partnerships
typically involve collaborative design processes, exclusive material applications, or unique technical features that create truly distinctive eyewear collections. The platform’s supplier profiles detail minimum order quantities for different customization levels, helping buyers identify partners whose capabilities
match their volume requirements. This transparency is particularly valuable for emerging brands and independent retailers looking to develop distinctive offerings without committing to large production runs.

They are designed to be discovered, slowly, over time.”Giorgio Galli, Chief Creative Director, Timex Group. “Timex Atelier represents a defining moment for Timex. It distills more than 170 years of watchmaking into a refined design philosophy rooted in proportion and clarity. It is a statement of who we are and how we move forward, where luxury, the Timex way, is defined by design that endures and details that reward attention.”

HOTELS & RESTAURANTS
Most Popular & Lip-smacking Crispy Fried Foods Delights Of Asia “
Asia’s fried foods are more than guilty pleasures— they’re stories of trade and tradition, told in golden batter and sizzling oil
Asia has never been shy about hot oil. Across the region, frying is not just a cooking method but a cultural performance: the hiss of batter hitting the pan, the glisten of golden crust, the promise of comfort in every crunch. Then comes the first bite—hot, crisp, indulgent. Some of these dishes trace their roots to centuries-old trade routes, while others sprang from street stalls within living memory. From the lacy precision of Japanese tempura to the fiery crunch of Korean fried chicken, Asia’s fried foods tell their stories not in words but in flavour, texture and heat.
batter to Nagasaki. The Japanese refined it into an art of restraint: vegetables and seafood dipped in an eggless batter, fried quickly in sesame oil and eaten almost immediately. Today, tempura is enjoyed everywhere from Michelin-starred kaiseki counters to neighbourhood tendon shops. Variations echo across Asia. For example, in Korea, battered squid (ojingeo twigim) draws inspiration from tempura, while in the Philippines, vegetable fritters known as okoy share a similar affinity for crispness.
Tempura (Japan)
Tempura is traditionally shrimp, but fish and vegetables have joined the fray, too….
Tempura may feel quintessentially Japanese, but its roots trace back to Portuguese missionaries in the 16th century, who introduced frying in
Karaage (Japan):
Karaage is usually best with a Cold Beer
If tempura is refinement, karaage is heart and soul. Marinated in soy, ginger and garlic, then deepfried twice for maximum crunch, karaage is a staple of Japanese comfort dining.Bite-sized and juicy,
it appears in bento boxes, izakaya menus and summer festival food stalls. Its influence has travelled widely, inspiring Taiwan’s popcorn chicken (yan su ji) and Filipino fried chicken variations, both echoing the balance of savoury depth and crisp skin of karaage.
Tangsuyuk (Korea and China)
Tangsuyuk: sweet-and-sour meat that unites sugar and vinegar in perfect tension.
In Korea’s Chinese restaurants, no order of jajangmyeon feels complete without tangsuyuk, which is deepfried pork or beef glazed in glossy sweet-and-sour sauce. Adapted from Northeastern Chinese cuisine, it became a beloved staple of KoreanChinese dining. Variants exist across Asia: in China proper, sweet-andsour pork (tángcù l₹j₹) leans sharper in vinegar; in the Philippines, “sweet and sour pork” has transformed into
a classic Chinese-Filipino banquet dish. Each version plays the same game: crisp meat, sticky sauce, a tug-of-war between sugar and acid.
Fried Bananas / Pisang Goreng (Southeast Asia):
Fried bananas are Southeast Asia’s sweet fried soul food. Known as pisang goreng in Indonesia and Malaysia, this snack involves ripe bananas dipped in batter and fried until caramelised at the edges. In Singapore, they appear in hawker centres as simple fritters, while in the Philippines, maruya (banana
fritters dusted with sugar) and turon (spring rolls stuffed with banana and jackfruit) carry the tradition. Thailand has its own version, kluay tod, often sold at street stalls alongside fried sweet potatoes and taro. Each one proves that when tropical fruit meets hot oil, cultures converge on joy. Fried bananas can come covered in sugar or wrapped in some variation of dough.
Lumpiang Shanghai (Philippines)
Lumpiang Shanghai: the party snack you can never have just one of. The Filipino lumpia, descended from Chinese spring rolls, is deep-fried until crisp and is slender enough to be eaten by the handful. Lumpiang Shanghai is typically stuffed with ground pork and vegetables, then dipped in sweet chilli sauce. Elsewhere across Asia, cousins abound: Vietnamese cha gio use rice paper wrappers for an extra shattering crunch, while Indonesia’s lumpia Semarang leans on bamboo shoots and chicken. These fried foods are a shared roll of migration and adaptation, rewrapped in local tastes.
Samosa (India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Nepal):
A samosa is basically a fried pastry triangle stuffed with potatoes, peas, spice and perhaps some meat. Few fried foods have travelled as far as the samosa. Originating in the Middle East and brought to South Asia by traders, the samosa evolved into South Asia’s most recognisable snack. Triangular pastries stuffed with spiced potatoes, peas or meat are fried until blistered and eaten with chutney. In Nepal, samosas are sharper with chillies; in Bangladesh, the shingara is plumper with cauliflower or peanuts. Even further afield, samosas journeyed with Indian communities to East Africa, where they’ve become integral to Kenyan and Tanzanian street food.
Pakora / Bhaji (India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh):
If there’s a rainy afternoon in India, there’s likely pakora. Vegetables dipped in spiced chickpea flour batter are fried into irregular, craggy fritters: onions for bhaji, spinach for palak pakora, potatoes for aloo
pakora. In Bangladesh, shingaras sometimes overlap with pakoras, while in the United Kingdom (which is not immune to its delicious charms), onion bhajis became a diaspora staple in curry houses. The pleasure is universal: irregular, golden, best eaten hot with tea. These fritters double as a filling meal and a rainy-day snack.
Youtiao (China and Southeast Asia):
The lowly but omnipresent youtiao have outlasted dynasties. The Chinese cruller, or youtiao, is breakfast’s most iconic fried companion. Long golden strips of dough are eaten with soy milk or congee, a tradition that dates back centuries. Its diaspora spread across Southeast Asia: in Vietnam, qu₹y is served with pho; in Thailand, pa tong go is paired with condensed milk for a sweet twist. In Malaysia and Singapore, youtiao are eaten at breakfast with congee, or simply as an accompaniment to milk or coffee. It’s a dough stick that adapts as easily as it puffs.
Fried ice cream (China, Thailand and Vietnam):
Fried ice cream happens when one coats a scoop of ice cream in batter or breadcrumbs then flash-fries it. Though often associated with Chinese restaurants abroad, fried ice cream has a pan-Asian following. The technique—coating frozen scoops in batter or breadcrumbs and flash-frying—might have been born in 20th-century banquet kitchens, or some say, Chinese-American restaurants before spreading internationally. In Thailand, night markets sell handheld versions rolled in breading, while in Vietnam, it’s offered alongside tropical fruit desserts. Its appeal lies in contrast: molten crust against frozen cream, indulgence wrapped in theatre.
Korean Fried Chicken (Korea, Global Diaspora):
Korean fried chicken is such a massive part of Korean culture that it is usually featured in dramas. Korean fried chicken, or chikin, exploded after the Korean War, becoming a late-night cultural ritual. Double-fried for shatteringly thin crusts and glazed in soy-garlic or spicy gochujang sauces, it’s often eaten with beer in a pairing called
chimaek. Diaspora communities carried it abroad, and today, Korean chicken chains thrive in the US and all throughout Asia, each adapting sauces to local tastes. What sets it apart is its technique: the crunch is engineered, not improvised.

HOW TO MONITOR YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE AT A PEACEFUL HOME ENVIRONMENT
Asingle high blood pressure reading at the doctor's office can leave you with more questions than answers. Was it the morning rush, last night's glass of wine, or just nerves? Blood pressure is a sensitive measure, easily influenced by stress, physical activity, and other everyday factors. For many, this makes it hard to know whether a spike reflects a genuine health concern or just a temporary fluctuation. That's where at-home monitoring can be a game-changer.
Many doctors encourage people to monitor blood pressure on their own. By tracking your blood pressure regularly in the comfort of your own home, you can get a clearer picture of your health, detect patterns, and even catch potential problems early. Home monitoring is especially useful for people with white-coat hypertension or labile hypertension, as well as to track responses to exercise, medications, or changes in treatment. It gives a more accurate idea of your blood pressure. It can help fine-tune the
strategy for keeping your blood pressure in check. And it just might make you more invested in controlling a problem that has no symptoms until it spawns a heart attack or stroke, or leads to heart or kidney failure.
Tips for at-home blood pressure monitoring
Time it right. When you first start to check your blood pressure at home, measure it early in the morning and again in the evening, every day for a week. If most of the readings fall into the goal numbers recommended by your doctor, you can check your blood pressure two or three times per week. Don't panic if one reading
is high. Keep in mind that your blood pressure changes constantly throughout the day. Track it. Many blood pressure meters store a week's worth of readings, or more. If yours doesn't, keep a record so you can show your doctor. There are some apps that will do this for you. Some even take the readings directly from the monitor so that you don't need
to write them down. Don't overdo it. Doctors warn, however, that home blood pressure monitoring can become too much of a good thing. Just as getting on the scale several times a day is counterproductive when it comes to losing weight, overly frequent monitoring can create anxiety over small fluctuations without contributing to long-term blood pressure management.
Choosing and using a home blood pressure monitor
There are dozens of home blood pressure monitors on the market, ranging in price from about $50 to $100. For best accuracy and ease of use, buy one with a cuff for the upper arm that automatically inflates and that automatically records the pressure. Models that store readings for a week or two can simplify record-keeping. Be sure to choose one with the correct cuff size — the inflatable part should completely cover at least 80% of your bare upper arm. (If the cuff is too small, you can get a reading that is too high.) Test it in the store to be sure it's easy to use. Note that the American Heart Association doesn't recommend wrist or finger home blood pressure monitors, as they are not as reliable.
HOW TO MANAGE YOUR HDL CHOLESTEROL
Cholesterol, a waxy, paleyellow fat, travels through the bloodstream in tiny, protein-covered particles called lipoproteins that mix easily with blood. You need cholesterol to create cell membranes, make hormones, and synthesize vitamin D, among other things. But if you're trying to avoid heart disease, you should keep tabs on your blood cholesterol values — especially your low-density lipoprotein (LDL), or "bad" cholesterol. Too much LDL in the bloodstream helps to create artery-clogging plaque, raising your risk of a heart attack.
Your cholesterol report (also called a lipid profile or lipid panel) also includes your high-density lipoprotein (HDL); see the table below for recommended values. HDL has long been referred to as "good" cholesterol, based on observational studies dating back decades showing that people with high HDL levels are less likely to develop cardiovascular disease. However, the scientific understanding of HDL has evolved in the ensuing years, and many cardiologists now believe that HDL may be more of a bystander rather than a "good guy" that helps lower heart disease risk. "Higher HDL levels are closely linked with behaviours like eating a healthy diet and getting regular exercise," says Dr. Stephen Wiviott, a cardiologist at Harvard-affiliated Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Talking trash about HDL
Researchers have also discovered that the way HDL functions and its role in the body are more complex that once believed. "The analogy that's often used to describe HDL is a garbage truck, because it picks up extra cholesterol, or garbage, from the bloodstream and the arteries and then transports it to the liver, where it's recycled or disposed," says Dr.
Wiviott. That was the rationale behind the creation of experimental drugs that raised HDL levels dramatically — between 60% and 100%. Over the past decade, large clinical trials tested five of these drugs (known as CEPT inhibitors) in people with low HDL levels. But while the drugs reliably raised HDL levels, they didn't achieve the most important goal: preventing heart attacks, strokes, and other complications from clogged arteries. Maybe, the thinking went, it wasn't
the number of garbage trucks that mattered but how good they were at picking up trash. That is, maybe the drugs increased the wrong kind of HDL cholesterol. It turns out that HDL comes in different shapes and sizes. Some types are spherical, while others are doughnut-shaped. Some types of HDL are great at plucking excess cholesterol from LDL and artery walls (a process referred to as reverse cholesterol transport), while some are not.
A better garbage truck?
What if you had an HDL-based drug specifically designed to improve reverse cholesterol transport? Think of it as an empty garbage truck with a better trash compactor. But when investigators tested four weekly infusions of this type of experimental drug on more than 18,200 recent heart attack survivors, it was no better than a placebo in preventing heart attack, stroke, or death, as detailed in a study published May 2, 2024, in The New England Journal of Medicine. "It's yet another point of reference to suggest that targeting HDL with medications may not be helpful," says Dr. Wiviott. But these findings shouldn't distract you from focusing on the factors you can control — namely, making sure your LDL is below 100 milligrams per deciliter, or even lower if you have heart disease (see advice about LDL-lowering strategies). That's true even if you have a high HDL level, which shouldn't be considered overly reassuring or a reason to ignore an elevated LDL value, says Dr. Wiviott.
FOODS THAT COULD LOWER YOUR CHOLESTEROL :
Changing what foods, you eat can lower your cholesterol and improve the armada of fats floating through your bloodstream. Adding foods that lower LDL, the harmful cholesterolcarrying particle that contributes to artery-clogging atherosclerosis, is the best way to achieve a low cholesterol diet.
6. Vegetable oils. Using liquid vegetable oils such as canola, sunflower, safflower, and others in place of butter, lard, or shortening when cooking or at the table helps lower LDL.
7. Apples, grapes, strawberries, citrus fruits. These fruits are rich in pectin, a type of soluble fiber that lowers LDL.
Add these foods to lower LDL cholesterol
Different foods lower cholesterol in various ways. Some deliver soluble fibre, which binds cholesterol and its precursors in the digestive system and drags them out of the body before they get into circulation. Some give you polyunsaturated fats, which directly lower LDL. And some contain plant sterols and stanols, which block the body from absorbing cholesterol.
1. Oats. An easy first step to lowering your cholesterol is having a bowl of oatmeal or cold oat-based cereal like Cheerios for breakfast. It gives you 1 to 2 grams of soluble fiber. Add a banana or some strawberries for another half-gram. Current nutrition guidelines recommend getting 20 to 35 grams of fiber a day, with at least 5 to 10 grams coming from soluble fiber. (The average American gets about half that amount.)
2. Barley and other whole grains. Like oats and oat bran, barley and other whole grains can help lower the risk of heart disease, mainly via the soluble fiber they deliver.
3. Beans. Beans are especially rich in soluble fiber. They also take a while for the body to digest, meaning you feel full for longer after a meal. That’s one reason beans are a useful food for folks trying to lose weight. With so many choices — from navy and kidney beans to lentils, garbanzos, black-eyed peas, and beyond — and so many ways to prepare them, beans are a very versatile food.
4. Eggplant and okra. These two low-calorie vegetables are good sources of soluble fiber.
5. Nuts. A bushel of studies shows that eating almonds, walnuts, peanuts, and other nuts is good for the Heart . Eating 2 ounces of nuts a day can slightly lower LDL, on the order of 5%. Nuts have additional nutrients that protect the heart in other ways.
8. Foods fortified with sterols and stanols. Sterols and stanols extracted from plants gum up the body's ability to absorb cholesterol from food. Companies are adding them to foods ranging from margarine and granola bars to orange juice and chocolate. They're also available as supplements. Getting 2 grams of plant sterols or stanols a day can lower LDL cholesterol by about 10%.
9. Soy. Eating soybeans and foods made from them, like tofu and soy milk, was once touted as a powerful
has LDL-boosting saturated fats, and by delivering LDL-lowering omega-3 fats. Omega-3s reduce triglycerides in the bloodstream and also protect the heart by helping prevent the onset of abnormal heart rhythms.
11. Fiber supplements. Supplements offer the least appealing way to get soluble fiber. Two teaspoons a day of psyllium, which is found in Metamucil and other bulkforming laxatives, provide about 4 grams of soluble fiber.
way to lower cholesterol. Analyses show that the effect is more modest — consuming 25 grams of soy protein a day (10 ounces of tofu or 2 1/2 cups of soy milk) can lower LDL by 5% to 6%.
10. Fatty fish. Eating fish two or three times a week can lower LDL in two ways: by replacing meat, which
PUTTING TOGETHER A LOW-CHOLESTEROL DIET
When it comes to investing money, experts recommend creating a portfolio of diverse investments instead of putting all your eggs in one basket. The same holds true for eating your way to lower cholesterol. Adding several foods to lower cholesterol in different ways should work better than focusing on one or two.
A largely Vegetarian "dietary portfolio of cholesterol-lowering foods" substantially lowers LDL, triglycerides, and blood pressure. The key dietary components are plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains instead of highly refined ones, and protein mostly from plants. Add margarine enriched with plant sterols; oats, barley, psyllium, okra, and eggplant, all rich in soluble fiber; soy protein; and whole almonds.
Of course, shifting to a cholesterollowering diet takes more attention than popping a daily statin. It means expanding the variety of foods you usually put in your shopping cart and getting used to new textures and flavors. But it's a "natural" way to lower cholesterol, and it avoids the risk of muscle problems and other side effects that plague some people who take statins.
Just as important, a diet that is heavy on fruits, vegetables, beans, and nuts is good for the body in ways beyond lowering cholesterol. It keeps blood pressure in check. It helps arteries stay flexible and responsive. It's good for bones and digestive health, for vision and mental health.
WHAT ARE THE BEST EXERCISES FOR CHRONIC BACK PAIN?
When you’re in pain, exercising may feel like the last thing you want to do. But a growing body of research suggests that, while it’s Not a Cure, physical activity may be a Useful Tool for managing chronic low back pain. And, over time, inactivity may Make symptoms worse. It
may feel counterintuitive, but “the best thing for you to do is actually to keep on moving,” in most cases, said Dr Edward Phillips, an associate professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School. Exercise can help to relieve pain by stretching and strengthening the muscles that support the back. For some, it can also improve your perception of the pain and reduce chronic stress.Still, studies suggest that one of the main reasons people
with back pain don’t exercise is because they fear they will make their pain worse. Whether you’re looking to move more, or you’re already active and want to keep working out despite your back pain, we asked doctors to share their dos and don’ts for exercising safely and effectively. (Because back pain can have different causes, check with your health care provider before getting started, or if your pain worsens.)

TAKE MOVEMENT BREAKS
Prolonged sitting, particularly in the same position, presents a triple whammy for back pain: It
puts excessive pressure on your discs, weakens your core and glute muscles and decreases the flexibility of your legs, said Dr Carolyn Chudy, the director of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the virtual orthopedic care provider Vori Health. And when you stand up, your back muscles may strain to compensate.
If you spend most of your time sedentary, start by taking short movement breaks throughout the day, Dr Chudy said. Every 30 minutes, stand up, walk around your home or office, or do a few air squats or sit-to-stands. Stretching can also help: When you sit for long periods, your leg, hip and core muscles can become tight, which can lead them to tug on your back muscles and spine, Dr Chudy said. Experts suggest pausing throughout your day to do child’s pose and cat-cow stretches, figure-four stretches for your hips, and hamstring stretches.
STRENGTHEN YOUR CORE – AND BEYOND
When your core muscles become weak, your spine and discs are forced to absorb more pressure when you move, which can lead to pain or injury. Think of your core like a corset made of muscle, Dr Phillips said. The stronger and more supportive it is, the less your spine and discs will have to endure. Building strength in your quads, glutes and hamstrings – which help support your trunk – can also help ensure that your core muscles don’t become strained. “Everything is connected,” Dr Phillips said. He recommends doing a routine of planks, side planks and glute bridges two to three times per week. Superman exercises can help, too. (But avoid crunches and sit-ups, which can aggravate your back.)
During your strength-training sessions, experts also recommend doing a few functional resistance exercises, since these movements can help you to move through daily life in proper form, lowering your risk of pain and injury. Think squatting or curtsying to pick things up (as opposed to bowing), and regularly taking the stairs.
Research suggests that yoga and Pilates can also help to manage back pain, thanks to their focus on strengthening and stretching the core and surrounding areas. If you’re concerned about hurting yourself
while strength training, the experts recommended getting an evaluation from a physical therapist, who can offer personalized guidance.
TRY LOW-IMPACT CARDIO
If you’re new to exercise or haven’t
worked out in a while, the safest forms of aerobic exercise are lowimpact workouts such as walking, using an elliptical machine, cycling and swimming, since they put less pressure on your back than other forms of aerobic activity, said Dr Andrew Sama, the co-chief of spine surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City. One study published last year found that walking can be
especially beneficial for preventing a recurrence of back pain. But if you can tolerate it, higher-impact cardio workouts can be helpful, too, depending on your fitness level. One recent, small study found that people with back pain who did a 12-week run-walk program experienced less intense pain and disability compared with a control group who did not participate in the program.
6 Low-Impact Cardio Exercises in 20 Minutes or Less
If you need a low-impact exercise regimen, look no further. We’ve taken the guesswork out of things by creating a 20-minute lowimpact cardio circuit that’s great for everyone — bad knees, bad hips, tired body, and all. Below are six exercises you should do for 1 minute each, jumping right into the next when the minute is up. After you complete all six exercises back-toback, rest for 1 minute, and then start the circuit again. Repeat three times through for a butt-kicking low-impact cardio workout.
1. LOW-IMPACT JUMPING JACK
A good warm-up exercise, lowimpact jumping jacks will get your heart pumping and muscles moving. You can exaggerate the arm movements to burn maximum calories. Start by standing with arms down at your sides. Step your right foot out, and at the same time bring your arms up above your head. Keep your weight in your right foot throughout this movement. Return to your starting position. Immediately step your left foot out. Once again, with your weight on your left foot, bring your arms above your head.
2. SKATERS
Channel a speed skater when you complete this move. The lowimpact version omits the jump but will still make you work. Start in a curtsy lunge position with both legs bent, your right leg behind and across your body. Your left arm should be straight down and right arm bent comfortably up at your side for balance. Pushing off the left leg, begin to stand, bringing the right leg forward and swinging your left leg back and across, switching arms as you go. Work quickly, but to maintain the low-impact approach, don’t jump.
3. SQUAT TO JAB
A bodyweight squat combined with boxing will have you bobbing and weaving for low-impact greatness. Start by standing with your feet slightly wider than shoulder-width apart and your arms down at your sides. Squat down, ensuring your chest is up, butt is back, and knees are out. Stand up, and when your legs are extended, throw a crossbody punch with each arm. Squat down again, stand up, and punch.
4. STANDING OBLIQUE CRUNCH
We had to throw in some core work for good measure. Ensure that your core is engaged and the movement is controlled for maximum effect. Start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart and your arms bent, hands on the back of your head and elbows flared out to the side. To begin the movement, bend to your right side, bringing your elbow down as you simultaneously bring your right knee up to touch. Return to your starting position. Repeat the same steps on the left side.
5. LATERAL SHUFFLE
Working in both the frontal and sagittal (side-to-side) planes will make your muscular strength more well-rounded. You want to ensure you’re working both legs equally, so shuffle right for a set amount of space or time, then shuffle left for the same, filling up your 1 minute of working time.
Start by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart, knees slightly bent, hips slightly bent so you’re maintaining a forward posture, and your arms comfortably in front of you. Shift your weight toward your right, pick up your right foot, and push off from your left foot to move your body to the right. Go as quickly as you can during this movement while maintaining your form. Bring your feet back together, and repeat, continuing to “shuffle” to the right, propelling yourself with your left foot as you go.
6. REVERSE-LUNGE FRONT KICK
You’ll feel the burn with this combo move. We recommend splitting the minute in half, lunging with your right leg for the first 30 seconds, then your left leg for the second 30 seconds. To get moving: Stand with feet shoulder-width apart and your arms bent and held up to your sides at chest level. To begin, kick
your right leg out straight in front of you, and on the way down, step back into a reverse lunge. Stand up and proceed right into another kick, then another reverse lunge.
Things to consider
It’s a good idea to warm up before you start — walking in place for a few minutes will get the blood flowing. Because this routine is low
impact, you may be able to complete it several times a week without adverse effects. You could even use this as a long warmup to a strengthtraining routine.
You can adjust this workout based on your fitness level. If you can’t complete 1 minute of each move without stopping, take breaks as you need them. If the routine gets too easy, you need to up the ante to continue seeing results. Add a light
dumbbell in each hand, or add time to each set to maintain a challenge. And as always — listen to your body. Stop if something feels wrong. If you do choose to run or do higher-impact workouts, be sure to wear supportive shoes and opt for even terrain to help avoid injury, Dr Sama said. Afterward, stretching and icing your back can help to keep pain at bay.
Generally, a good litmus for determining whether a workout is safe for you is asking yourself: Does this make my back pain worse, either during or afterward? If the answer is no, Dr Sama said, you can keep moving the way you’ve been moving without fear.

MOST EXPENSIVE PICKLEBALL
Memberships For Players Who Want More Than Just A Court
In the last few years, pickleball has exploded from sleepy retirement community courts into glossy resort gyms, neonlit luxury clubs, and elite membersonly hangouts. What started as a backyard sport is now a multi-billion dollar industry attracting Silicon Valley investors, pro athletes, and even couture leisurewear designers. With social media reels showing everyone from Leonardo DiCaprio to Dua Lipa swinging paddles, the
message is clear: if you want some swagger, you pick up pickleball. More importantly, the game of pickleball is evolving. No longer just a casual sport, it’s become a cultural
phenomenon with its own status symbols. We’re talking luxe courts, player lounges, cryotherapy rooms, champagne taps, and conciergelevel service. All of this comes with a price tag and that’s where the most expensive pickleball memberships come in. Around the globe and especially across Asia, exclusive clubs are making room (literally) for pickleball, giving their affluent members new ways to network, train, and flex.
FNH - FITNESS & SPORTS
Why pickleball memberships are the new power play
It’s no accident that pickleball is getting its glow-up. What used to be a paddles-and-plastic-ball pastime for bored uncles is now a multimillion-dollar playground for serious athletes, social climbers, and investors with a nose for lifestyle gold. And like any sport undergoing a luxury renaissance, the infrastructure is catching up fast. We’re not just talking about a few extra benches by the tennis courts. We’re talking entire complexes, where pickleball is the main event and the vibe is more clubhouse chic
than community centre shuffleboard. Take Center Court Pickleball Club in Arizona. With massage chairs, cryotherapy zones, smoothie bars, curated playlists, and lounge areas that look as if they were plucked from a Pinterest spread, this isn’t just where you play; it’s where you exist. In an interview, CEO Wayne Morris called it a “health club feel for serious pickleballers,” pointing out that the sport’s biggest issue has always been the lack of elite spaces to play. The trend is impossible to ignore. The
sport is no longer a sideline act to golf and tennis. It’s stepping into the spotlight and anchoring some of the most expensive pickleball memberships around the world. With elite amenities, pro-level coaching, and social capital built into every rally, pickleball is evolving into a full-blown luxury lifestyle.
And that brings us to five power players. These are exclusive, highfee clubs where pickleball isn’t just allowed; it’s the headline act, each
with a credible claim to offering some of the most expensive pickleball memberships available in 2025.
1. The Vintage Club — California, USA:
Membership Fee: Estimated initiation fee of USD 300,000 or more, with annual dues around USD 30,000. Invitation-only. Located in the heart of Coachella Valley, The Vintage Club is the kind of place where legacy wealth lives, breathes, and backhands. You’ll find captains of industry and Hollywood
producers volleying in Ralph Lauren polo shirts on the eight tournamentquality pickleball courts. This isn’t a rec centre. It’s a multi-acre, fullservice resort community wrapped around two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses, a five-star spa, fine dining, and concierge living. The club runs private coaching,
members-only pickleball leagues, and social tournaments designed for networking in designer sneakers. For anyone looking to join the elite world of the most expensive pickleball memberships, this one sets the tone, not just for its price, but for the prestige it guarantees.
2. Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) — Singapore:
Membership Fee: Transferable memberships range between USD 145,000 to USD 180,000. Monthly dues additional. As Singapore’s most prestigious country club, SICC is where the city-state’s elite unwind. Think prime ministers, CEOs, and the ultra-connected. The club sprawls across two locations and offers a level of privacy and service that borders on regal. In 2024, SICC officially added pickleball to its roster of elite racquet sports. The courts are purpose-built and host regular match
days, personalised training, and internal leagues. This is not a “bring your own paddle” vibe; it’s toptier competition with white-glove support. Beyond the courts, members can also enjoy championship golf courses, Olympic-sized pools, a wine cellar, multiple gourmet restaurants, a wellness complex, and curated networking events. It is one of Southeast Asia’s clearest examples of the most expensive pickleball memberships, with its exclusivity matched only by its stunning facilities.
3. Tanglin Club — Singapore
Membership Fee: Estimated between USD 130,000 to USD 160,000 for transfer market. Additional monthly dues and sports section fees apply. Established in 1865, the Tanglin Club is where old-money elegance meets modern athleticism. With a membership roster that reads like a G20 guest list, Tanglin has managed to remain fresh by expanding its sports facilities to include its increasingly popular
pickleball section. Members have access to organised pickleball games, beginner and advanced coaching, and exclusive in-house tournaments. But don’t let the paddle fool you! The club’s vibe
is anything but casual. Think fine-dining restaurants, private cinema rooms, a five-storey fitness centre, a stately library, and lounges where deals are made over vintage Bordeaux. With a
growing waitlist and a limited number of court slots, Tanglin earns its place among the most expensive pickleball memberships in Asia, offering access not just to a sport, but to a status.
4. Orchid Country Club
— Singapore
Membership Fee: Approximately USD 14,000 to USD 29,000 depending on membership category. Located away from the central buzz of Orchard Road, Orchid Country Club offers a different kind of luxury: the kind that whispers, not shouts. Surrounded by lush greenery and tranquil lakes, it’s the perfect retreat for professionals who like their cardio with a view. Its pickleball programme is no afterthought. There are dedicated courts, club-run coaching, beginner social sessions, and growing
interclub competitions. The vibe is more chill than cutthroat, but the quality of play is climbing quickly. Members also enjoy a full 27-hole golf course, bowling alley, swimming pools, gym, spa, and family-friendly zones. There’s even a hotel on site, making it a staycation-friendly club. And while the membership fee sits on the lower end of the scale, its offerings are rich enough to punch above its weight in conversations around the most expensive pickleball memberships in Asia.
5. The Jockey Club — Hong Kong
Membership Fee: Around USD 110,000 for full membership. Other tiers available but all are highly exclusive. The Hong Kong Jockey Club is more than a club; it’s an institution. With roots in racing and a lock on elite membership, it’s considered one of the most powerful private clubs in Asia. Entry is inviteonly, and existing members must vouch for new applicants. Among its wide range of sporting facilities is a multi-purpose court used for badminton, basketball, and yes,
pickleball. While it’s not a dedicated pickleball facility, it still counts. In Hong Kong’s land-scarce urban grid, even partial court access at a club like this puts you leagues ahead of most. In addition to sports, members also enjoy Michelin-starred restaurants, art collections, equestrian training, and historic venues that have hosted royalty and dignitaries. For those seeking prestige and play in equal measure, this is a standout among the most expensive pickleball memberships in Asia.
Pickleball’s luxury evolution is redefining what it means to belong to a “sports club.” What was once a pastime of retirees has transformed into a lifestyle statement for the global elite — a blend of athleticism, networking, and leisure wrapped in exclusivity. From California’s The Vintage Club, where courts gleam under the desert sun, to Singapore’s storied institutions like SICC and Tanglin Club, the game has become a new marker of prestige. These memberships don’t just buy access to courts — they open doors to curated communities, world-class
wellness, and unparalleled status. As the sport’s popularity surges, more clubs are taking cues from these pioneers, merging luxury hospitality with high-performance training. Whether it’s for the fitness, the social circles, or simply the allure of playing where billionaires brunch, the world’s most expensive pickleball memberships promise more than a game — they offer entry into an exclusive rhythm of recreation and refinement. In 2025, the ultimate serve isn’t just on the court; it’s in the lifestyle that surrounds it.
