Scripture:Numbers 22:2-6, 22:12-13 22:20-22 22:28-33; 24:10-11; 25:1-3
1. Discuss the significance of Balaam seeking God’s council before going with the men sent by Balak. Why did God initially did not allow Balaam initially to go and yet permit him to do so after? What does God’s reaction tell you about the issues between God’s divine will and man’s fee will?
2. How can Christians today identify Balaam-like characteristics in ourselves, being more focused on our wishes rather than God’s overall plan?
3. Despite the recurrent sins of Israel, God chooses to continue to bless Israel. Why? What are some attributes of God that causes him to do so? (e.g. Numbers 23:19 and other verses). How does that assure you when we continue to unintentionally offend God? How does Deut 7:6-8 re-inforce this idea?
4. Why do you think God approved of Phinehas (25:7-13) rather “harsh” treatment of his fellow countryman? How to you think it applies to the church today, if at all? Explain your answer.
