SHIKOKU ISLAND | 14 to 19 April 2026
This April, we are organising a 6-day mission trip to Japan with a difference. Beyond the immaculate work ethic and their famous cuisine, are there unseen needs we have never realised?.
Prayerfully as we walk and fellowship with local pastors and missionaries, the Lord will grant us a different view of Japan.
WHY JAPAN?
Despite a population of 126 million, Japan remains largely unreached, with Christians making up less than 1%. The spiritual need is stark: 1,700 towns have no local church, and existing congregations average of 35 members or less.
WHAT WILL WE DO?

WHY VISION WALK?
A vision walk is a firsthand look at God’s work in the global marketplace and learn to align your personal and professional life with His mission.
Journeying from Matsuyama to Kochi, we will engage in daily walks of an hour in the morning and an hour in the afternoon, distributing tracts and praying for that area. We will visit 5 to 7 churches to hear from their local pastors and then end the trip at Grace Kochi Church on Sunday where Mei Lin is currently serving.
Estimated cost S$1,200 (not inclusive of airfare)
Limited seats! Contact Mei Lin or Hock Tiong

Jon Benedict
SHIKOKU VISION WALK
Dates:
• 14 to 19 April 2026 Tuesday to Sunday, 6D/5N

Missionary & Guide
• Jon was born 1956 in Japan to missionary parents and grew up in Japan, going to Japanese and international schools. He accepted Christ as a child and was baptized when 17 sensing God was calling him to commit his life to Christ. After graduating Yokohama International High School he went to Youth With A Mission schools in Hawaii and then returned to Japan in 1978 to serve as missionary with YWAM where he served on staff as interpreter and leader for 20 years.
• In 1979 Jon married Becky Swanson, who also grew up in Japan as a child of missionaries, and they have 10 children who were born and raised in Japan. Jon had a desire to study theology and attended Christian International College by correspondence earning his Th.B. in 1984.
• While serving as a missionary, Jon taught English and American culture in schools ranging from elementary schools to colleges for over 40 years and worked as a wedding minister for 36 years.
• Currently, Jon and Becky live in Nagano prefecture where Jon helps to fill in preaching at a small country church, has an interpreting job, and grows rice on the side. Jon’s passion is to know Christ, to grow in faith, and to share the gospel with those who have yet to hear the message personally.
• Jon has always been interested in the history of Japan, in particular the historical highways of Japan near which he grew up. Beginning in 2009, Jon, along with Pastor Masao Himei, head of Sodoin Dendo (a mission organization) and other believers, took a month to walk the 500 km of Tokaido, the most famous of the historic highways in Japan linking Tokyo with the ancient capital Kyoto, to share the gospel and to visit churches along the way.
• This project was called Walk With Jesus and has continued for the past 16 years. Currently, Walk With Jesus is follows the route of the old highways on the Island of Shikoku.
• Jon’s desire is to unite with local churches across denominations, to reach people with the gospel, and to pray for more laborers into the harvest.

Discussion Questions
1. Paul warns about spiritual drift. Where do you notice yourself drifting spiritually in this season? What makes it harder for you to stay spiritually awake and sober?
2. We live from our identity in Christ. What does living as a “child of the day” look like in your daily life? Which piece of the armour faith, love, or hope do you feel is most under pressure in this season, and why?
3. Our future is secure, so we can live courageously now. How does the assurance of salvation shape the way you face risk or sacrifice? Is there a step of faith God may be inviting you to take?
