At FÓLK we believe that design can drive the Green Transition

With deep respect for design and acknowledgement of the urgent need for a circular transformation, FÓLK creates high design value objects and furniture that enable the circularity of materials.

Driving changetogether

Since 2021 FÓLK has been hands on with circular transformations. Through this period our focus on circularity has only intensified because the world is full of waste. It is great to experience people’s reactions when we tell them a piece of furniture or a decorative object is actually made from waste. But we’ve also been met with questions, such as: in the big picture, does this create any impact at all?

In the last two years, FÓLK sold more than 17.5 tonnes of design products made from wasted materials. That is 17.5 tonnes of waste saved from landfill or incineration. 17.5 tonnes of material classified as offcut, waste or no good for production. This leads to less waste, lower CO2 emissions and a better use of the world’s resources.

When a small company like FÓLK can achieve such numbers by recovering waste materials instead of using virgin materials, imagine the impact if bigger companies did? By working with circular transformations, we lead by example and we show that it is possible to turn waste into value at scale.

For the future our ambition continues. In 2027 and onwards we will offer all our collections in circular editions enabling the consumer to make a choice for a circular future. We know that to in order to make a real impact we need to work together – join us in driving change.

FÓLK’s Design Principles

At FÓLK we design and produce products:

- With high durability

- From natural materials

- From recycled, discarded and leftover materials

- That can be easily disassembled so the material can be reused or recycled after use

- In Europe

This is how we support the transition to circularity*

*Our product range in non-virgin materials is growing and our ambition is that from 2027 and onwards all collections will be available in non-virgin materials.

Furniture

FÓLK presents LINA99, a classic design transformed by circular and innovative thinking. Originally designed by Gunnar Magnússon in 1972, the LINA99 shelf returns in a new material where rice husks – a byproduct of european agriculture – are turned into a tactile material, enabling a new generation of furniture.

The LINA 99 design is a true design classic. Designed in 1972 by award winning designer Gunnar Magnússon, Lina is a strong, elegant shelf system, made to last and to be passed down through generations. The elegant lines of the design are not only pleasing to the eye – the shelves are also highly practical. A modular system that you can build and customize as the years go by. All parts of this piece of furniture can be separated and taken apart.

All around the world the production of stone creates offcuts leading to production of waste. With a simple design, leftover marble is transformed into the Offcut Tables – a collection made from highquality marble offcuts, each retaining the inherent beauty and geological history of the stone. The tables are originally designed in 1962 by legendary Icelandic designer Gunnar Magnússon.

Meet the Venti tables, designed by German designer Marcus Götschl for FÓLK. With clean lines and folded steel, the tables bring a calm, architectural presence to any space. Light yet durable, they are easy to move and adapt naturally to homes, offices, or hospitality interiors.

The Turnaround Rack is a practical yet poetic piece of furniture to help you store your clothes in a minimalistic manner. The product is designed for smaller spaces, and can be rotated against the wall when not in use, to save space. Designed by Finnish design duo Our Edition.

The Inka Collection is a true classic both from a design and aesthetic point of view. The Inka is designed to be highly durable and can last for generations. The width of the armrest is for comfort, where you can rest your hands or put down a nice cup of coffee. An advantage in the Inka’s design is that it can be placed in the middle of a room and still look good on all sides of the furniture. Designed by Gunnar Magnússon in 1962.

The Urban Nomad is a minimalistic yet highly functional product that can be used in a variety of ways. The collection features multiple color combos and sizes, and the hooks and poles expand the possibilities for use. Designed by Jón Helgi Hólmgeirsson.

The Urban Nomad Console Table comes in two sizes and colour variations. It is easy to assemble and designed to fit in any space. It can be handed down from generation to generation, as the materials are robust and of high quality. At the end of the product life cycle, the steel can be recycled and the wood can be reused.

Lighting

Playing with the composition of simple forms and pure natural materials, the Composition light is a simple narrative of light, structures and textures. The light is made from marble and aluminum and brightens up any room in a radiant and modern manner. The marble is offcut stone sourced from Italian stone production. Designed by Theodóra Alfreðsdóttir.

Simple shapes and a play with light and shadows are the starting point of Tinna Gunnarsdóttir’s Profile Lamp. The shape is an ode to the geometry that surrounds us all. The light source is diffused and dimmable. The design is a conversation between light, material and geometry.

Accessories

Introducing the Lava Glass vases, a stunning creation by the Swedish design studio Navet, designed for FÓLK. The vases make any bundle of flowers look stunning but are equally attractive when standing alone.

Crafted entirely from 100% recycled glass in Sweden, these vases are not just beautiful – they’re setting an example of how design can contribute to the green transition. Each vase is produced using waste energy, showcasing an innovative approach to sustainable design and production.

The Offcut Tray is a collection of marble trays for use in the kitchen or as a decorative object in the living room. The trays come in three shapes and are all made of surplus marble from Portuguese stone production. This collection does not only show the timeless beauty of marble but also sustainable practices by transforming surplus materials into highquality pieces.

Who would have guessed an airbag from a scrapped car could look so good as a cushion or pillow in the home?

What people love about the Airbag is the product’s easy transformation from industrial waste to a design object. It manifests how innovative design can accelerate our transformation to the circular economy.

The Airbag is designed by Studio FLÉTTA and can be used for various functions: it is for example ideal for outdoor use, the living room floor, the children’s room, the meditation class or the family picnic.

Each Airbag is unique, so the product’s hue varies between white, pink, beige and blue. The airbags are sourced from car part dealerships in Denmark and Germany. The filling is leftover powerfill from 66° North’s production of winter jackets.

Living Objects is a collection of stone objects that can be used in multifunctional ways. With its clean aesthetics and vivid colors, the Living Objects are designed for playing with different compositions, functions and use. The quality of the Living Objects is both practical and aesthetic, they can be used in all seasons of the year, as a candlestick, flower vase or sculpture. Designed by Ólína Rögnudóttir.

OFFCUT MATERIAL

Something that is cut off (such as a waste piece of lumber) from a production process of a material. We use offcuts from other production to utilize every piece produced.

FSC CERTIFIED

This means that the wood is produced with standards for how the forests are managed, making sure wood products are sourced in a way that protects the environment and supports the people who depend on the forests.

EU ECOLABEL

The EU Ecolabel promotes goods and services with a guaranteed reduced environmental impact throughout their entire life cycle.

OEKO-TEX

Oekotex is is a label for textiles tested for harmful substances. It sets the benchmark for textile safety, from yarn to finished product.

UPCYCLING

Upcycling is the process of taking old or discarded materials and transforming them into something new and more valuable. Instead of throwing things away, upcycling gives them a second life by repurposing them creatively.

RECYCLING

The action or process of  converting waste into  reusable  material.

REPURPOSE

Repurpose means extending a discarded product or its parts to new use-cycles, by finding different functional uses

CIRCULAR MATERIAL

A material that is designed and intended for the circular economy. The circular economy is a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. In this way, the life cycle of products is extended.

BIODEGRADABLE

A material capable of being broken down especially into innocuous products by the action of living things (such as microorganisms).

REGENERATIVE RESOURCES

Resources which can be extracted from cyclic processes of regrowth without reducing the capacity of that cycle to regenerate.
