Regional Conferences Underway As the first series of gatherings across the United States and Canada for the fraternal year, Regional Conferences often set the tone for the organization’s next several months. Grand Worthy President Ron Stine and Grand Madam President Sally Villalva are leading by example, coming together to encourage members to “Keep The Pace, Win The Race, Step Up For Membership.” The pair have reached out to their Regional Presidents with points of emphasis for all Conferences. Ron's points of emphasis include: • Membership Growth: Meet the Challenge • F.O.E. Diabetes Research Center: Let’s Break Records! • Stay on Track: Be a Loyal and Good Members • Help Others: This is the Engine of our Organization

In conjunction with DRC Co-Directors Tom McGrath and Jean Kerr, a message has been drafted and sent to all DRC Regional Chairman to deliver at each conference as a tool to keep members informed. We Are People Helping People Alaska -The Auxiliary of Juneau-Douglas #4200 sponsored a Relay for Life team, raising $1,196 to find a cure for cancer. Arizona -Top Of The Rim #4437 presented the Arizona Burn Foundation with $2,000 in grants and donations. California -Chico #218 held a dinner to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project, raising $1,500. Colorado -Pikes Peak Junior Order of Eagles #143 raised $207.75 for the Pikes Peak Hospice. Dakota -The Dakota State Aerie presented a $5,000 grant to Home on the Range, while the Auxiliary presented $1,200 to Black Hills Children’s Home Society. Florida -Seminole #4147 raised $12,000 in donations to various F.O.E. Charities. Idaho -Idaho Falls Aerie #576 awarded $3,500 in scholarships to five area students. Illinois -Cicero Aerie #1935 raised $2,000 for the Boys & Girls Club of Cicero through their annual golf tournament. Indiana -Crown Point #2659 presented $9,000 in scholarships to area students in 2012. Iowa -2011-2012 State Presidents Jake and Barb Roush presented a check for $144,113.87 to the University of Iowa for Multiple Sclerosis research. Kansas -2011-2012 Kansas State Presidents John J. Kaiser and Peggy L. Fellers presented a donation of $32,839 the Cotton-O’Neil Cancer Center in Topeka. Michigan -Michigan Center #3634 held their annual Walk-A-Thon event, raising $5,000 for the Art Ehrmann Cancer Fund. Minnesota -Albert Lea #2258 donated $500 to the YMCA, Freeborn Co. Humane Society, American Red Cross, Freeborn Co. Historical Society, the Gus Project and the Freeborn Co. Arc. Missouri -Missouri raised $131,077.28 for Dream Factory, the state project of Tim Marler and Leslie Franklin in 2011-2012. The money received helped 29 sick children experience

New Hampshire -PSP Whip Wilson, on behalf of the New Hampshire Past State President’s Club, presented an $800 donation to the Cheshire Health Foundation’s Diabetes Fund. Ohio -Willoughby #2300 donated $5,000 to Dancing Wheels Company & School, bringing the Eagles' total donation to the organization to $20,000. Oregon -Past State President Fran Green presented a check for $35,506.43 to Gales Creek Camp for Diabetic Children. Pennsylvania -Carlisle #1299 presented a grant for $10,000 to benefit the Jake Gittlen Memorial Golf Tournament. Texas -Highland Lakes #4303 donated $2,000 to the Autism Research Center in San Antonio and $2,480 to various F.O.E. charities. Utah -Tooele #164 recently held a fundraiser for local resident Terry Higgins, a multiple amputee, raising $6,625.05 for his family. Virginia -Piedmont #4420 awarded 7 scholarships to area students for a total of $5,000. Washington -2011-2012 State Presidents Ivan Wilson and Charlene Butterfield raised more than $100,000 for their state project, Washington
Food Banks and $102,000 for their joint charity Pope’s Kids Place. Wisconsin -Oshkosh #267 donated $2,000 to the Aurora Research Foundation. Alberta/ Saskatchewan -Regina #4126 presented checks for $9,448 to the Regina Special Olympics and $12,759 to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation. British Columbia -Maple Ridge Eagles #2831 donated $1,200 for a new procedure chair for Ridge Meadows Hospital and to fund Girls World. Once each State/Province we have news from has been represented, we will begin to allow additional items. given a new eight-minute DRC video created by the Grand Aerie Marketing Department to share with those in attendance. The video touches on where we’ve been and where we must continue to go to reinforce the center as a tremendous beacon of pride for the organization. Each chair has also received several DRC items which can be used to help raise interest in meeting our commitment. Our Presidents are also highly pushing membership for the Regional Conference season. As with any organization, power lies in numbers. In order to maximize our ability to reach out and help bring positive change to the world, we must focus on growing our ranks. With increased membership comes increased influence and with that influence comes the ability to make a difference. To help with this task, the Grand Aerie Membership Department is holding a contest from Sept. 1-Nov. 30, for a chance to win a free vacation voucher from Resort Condominiums International (RCI). For every five (5) proposed members during the three-month period, a current member will receive one (1) entry into the raffle. See the flier included in this issue of Soar for more information. Ron and Sally are also making loyalty a priority during their year as Presidents. With a membership of nearly 850,000, it’s only natural for members to have differing opinions on subjects. Part of being a loyal member of the F.O.E. is respecting the opinions of others and working together to find a common ground that best suits all members. By working together and being loyal to brothers and sisters, we better our chances of making the F.O.E. all it can be. As our Grand Worthy President loves to say, “Eagles are all about helping those less fortunate than us.” It’s a sentiment shared by Sally and by Eagles who came before us. As members gather throughout the fall our leaders ask every Eagle to consider our dedication to being “People Helping People” above all us. The phrase is more than a motto – it’s the foundation of our entire organization. In the face of problems and successes, it’s important to always ask ourselves if what we’re doing is to the benefit of the organization and society as a whole. Let’s channel our energy and focus it on taking actions with a positive effect. This fall, let’s do as our leaders have done and “Keep the Pace, Win the Race, Step Up For Membership.”

About Your Per Capita Tax The Fraternal Order of Eagles Board of Grand Trustees is aware of some confusion surrounding the recent vote by delegates to increase the Per Capita Tax (PCT). The intent of the proposal was to increase the PCT by a total of $2 per year, but in six-month increments of 50 cents to allow for operational adjustments at the local level. However, the wording of the law change was inconsistent with that intent, and will – over time – bring the PCT increase to $4 per year. The only way this action can be changed is on the Convention floor. Therefore, the Board of Grand Trustees will have a corrected proposal ready for next July’s Convention in Reno for the delegation to consider. Please be aware that the first increase of 50 cents will be effective during the May 2013 collection period. You Could Win A Free Vacation!
