hat a year we've had so far! We are on track to be a Net Gain organization again this time meeting our goal of a 2% Net Gain. We've started three new Aeries and four new Auxiliaries. Eagles are back to raising millions of dollars for charity and we're geared up for one of our biggest Conventions yet in Columbus, Ohio. While we've accomplished a lot, there's still work left to do. Use these remaining months to help us blow our goals out of the water and put us in a great position for next fraternal year. We must "Get Off The Bench and Get In The Game." We can't let the Legacy that is the Fraternal Order of Eagles fade away. EAGLES TAKE OVER THE BUCKEYE STATE This summer, the Fraternal Order of Eagles invades downtown Columbus, Ohio, for the 2022 F.O.E. International Convention, July 30-Aug. 4, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel and Columbus Convention Center. Rooms still remain at the Sonesta Hotel ($134/night + tax) and the Red Roof Inn ($129/night + tax). The Hyatt Regency and Drury Inn & Suites are both sold out. All Convention activities will be held in the Hyatt Regency and the Convention Center, which are connected.

n Dec. 10, 2021, thousands of lives in Western Kentucky changed forever in the wake of an EF4 tornado that ripped through more than 150 miles of the region, destroying multiple communities and claiming 56 lives. While many area businesses faced extensive damage, Purchase Eagles #4464, located in Mayfield, emerged unscathed and ready to assist the community it calls home. “We were lucky to make it through safely,” said Aerie President Tracey Kenson. “But it was pretty clear to us that most didn’t and we knew we had to do whatever we could to help out.” Purchase began to store food, toiletries, clothing, and other assorted items in their buffet room to help out those in the area who needed help. Aeries and Auxiliaries began to call the Purchase Eagles, as well as the Grand Aerie, eager to help out in any way they could. mayfield

temporary residences, assistance moving, or food and other items no longer available in the buffet room, the pair dug in and gathered as much information as possible, before reporting back to the trustees to distribute the money.
“As of the (7 States) Conference in Bowling Green, we had raised a total of $246,000 and we’ve received more money since then,” Kenson said.
“We did a lot of work to make sure everyone who received financial assistance really, truly needed it,” Kenson said. “A lot of good people took the time to donate money to us and we felt it was important to make sure all of those donations went to those who were most in need.”
Affected residents were invited to come into the Aerie to take any items they needed from the buffet room, while Aerie officers worked to find people most in need of the funds provided by donations from across the jurisdiction.
Between the monetary donations and the items from the buffet room, the number of individuals assisted by the Fraternal Order of Eagles was too large to track.
Kenson and Secretary Lisa Pritchard reached out via phone to those in need to obtain information about their circumstances. Whether it was rent needed for their mayfield

LENDING A HELPING HAND “At this point, the buffet room is pretty well empty,” Kenson said. “The balance of funds remaining is around $84,000.” While the immediate need for assistance was clear to all, the Purchase Eagles made clear that the devastation continues to linger on far past that dark December day. With many still forced to live in hotels or temporary residences and many business still shut down due to damages, several citizens are
seeing savings depleted and feeling the pinch months after the tornado touched down. In some cases, the hardest hit individuals have received multiple rounds of assistance to help cover outstanding bills and necessities. “We’re still making calls and gathering information from folks,” Kenson said. “It’s been a lot of work, but as long as we have the space and the money to help people, that’s what we’re going to do.”
DISTRIBUTING GOODS For almost four months, the Purchase Eagles' buffet room served as a distribution center for area residents, providing food, clothing, toys, etc., all donated by members and other area residents.

SENDING HOPE Eagles outside of the region stepped up to support the cause as best they could. Cape Girardeau, Missouri #3775 sent a truck loaded with food and supplies to Mayfield, while Mesa, Arizona #4508 collected donations from members to "pie" participants for a cause.

n Feb. 7, the Fraternal Order of Eagles Charity Foundation Board formally approved the second round of drug trial grants for the FOE Diabetes Research Center at the University of Iowa. In Nov., 2020, Dr. Julien Sebag and Dr. Calvin Carter were each approved for $325,000 in grants to help translate their research into life saving medications. Due to the progress made from the first round of funding, both researchers were given the green light for a second round of trials to help bring their efforts closer to making a difference in lives everywhere. Dr. Calvin Carter is currently working on a noninvasive insulin sensitizer. Nearly 10% of the world's population will have diabetes within the next decade. Many patients face issues due to poor adherence to treatment from side effects and inconvenience. Dr. Carter is aiming to use electromagnetic fields (EMFs) for the wireless management of type 2 diabetes. This method was proven to normalize blood glucose levels in mice. Grant money will be used for larger animal trials to test potential viability on humans. bridge to the cure

Dr. Julien Sebag has been working on development of small molecule enhancers of insulin-stimulated GLUT4 translocation for the treatment of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Dr. Sebag's team used new technology to identify several new insulin sensitizers. The goal of his project is to optimize those molecules into lead compounds for the development of a new treatment for type 2 diabetes and determine their mode of action at the molecular level. The F.O.E. Charity Foundation board continues to oversee progress on these trials along with Senior Advisor and former DRC Director Dr. E. Dale Abel. In time, if these trials continue to prove successful, the information found will be used to take these drugs to human studies with the hopes of one bridge to the cure
day putting the drugs on the market to help maintain, combat or potentially even cure diabetes. Since 2008, our initial $25 donation to fund the FOEDRC has been used to generate an additional $750 million in research grants that have helped lead to these two initial Bridge grants. Our team continues to work daily to find new ways to combat diabetes and hopes to have additional Bridge projects ready for approval in the near future. Thank You Eagles! A Message from Dr. E. Dale Abel
It is with mixed emotions, but with a sense of great pride in our accomplishments that I write this my final Director’s report. When I came to the University of Iowa nearly 9 years ago, I was given a challenge to leverage the generous gift of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, to develop a world class diabetes research center. I reflected back on where things were at the University of Iowa in 2008, when there were 5 faculty members identified as doing diabetes research with a total team of 20. We had 10 grants received and approximately $1M in funding from the National Institute of Health. Now, 13 years later the FOEDRC houses 110 faculty members, greater than 1,000 researchers. Since that time we have received more than $375M in research funding from 780 grants and more than 1,600 published research articles. Many members of our team have received national and international recognition for their work. We have made important research breakthroughs ranging from the development of promising new approaches for treating diabetes, to increased understanding of how diabetes happens and what we can do to prevent it. diabetes research center
As I move on, I hand the reins over to two distinguished and highly qualified colleagues, Dr. Andrew Norris and Kamal Rahmouni, who have agreed to serve as interim co-directors of the FOEDRC. Andy Norris, MD PhD, serves as the Director of the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes, and holds a Richard O. Jacobson Foundation Chair in Pediatrics. He has served as Associate Director of the FOEDRC since 2014. Kamal Rahmouni holds the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Center Research Endowed Chair and serves as Co-Director of the Obesity Research and Education Initiative. Kamal and Andy have mentored many trainees and faculty within the FOEDRC and are very qualified to continue the current trajectory of the Diabetes Center. I am confident that they will provide strong and steady leadership as long as needed, while a search for a new permanent director is conducted. The FOEDRC is strong and our current trajectory predicts a bright future. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you as Director of the FOEDRC and thank you for the generosity of the FOE to being us to this point. I look forward to serving as a senior advisor in the years ahead. 16

Growing Our Order Virginia institutes trio of New Aeries & Auxiliaries ALTADENA AUXILIARY #719 The Auxiliary of Pasadena #719, in Altadena, Calif., was re-instituted on Feb. 4. While the Aerie had remained active, the Aux., had closed in 2008. However, a spark was lit recently to reform the Auxiliary and for several months, organizers worked to bring back lapsed members, recruit new members and prepare to be back up and running. GMP Brenda Garrioch and GA Membership Coordinator Tim Hoyt attended the ceremony.

cross the commonwealth of Virginia, the Eagles continue to spread their wings and expand their presence. So far this year, Virginia has instituted three new Aeries and Auxiliaries, bringing their total to 28. Warrenton Eagles #4552 were the first to join the fold, on Dec. 4. The Grand Aerie and Grand Auxiliary ritual teams, led by Grand Worthy President Brian Rogers and Grand Madam President Brenda Garrioch, were on hand to perform the institution and initiation ceremonies, as well as the first installation of officers. The Warrenton club will be known as the Jerry L. Sullivan Aerie & Auxiliary, in honor of the late Past Grand Worthy President, who was a member of Fredericksburg, Va., #4123, where the institution was held. Lake Country Eagles #4553 in South Hill, Va., were next to institute on Jan. 15. Rogers and Garrioch were on hand along with staff from the Grand Aerie to carry out the institution and meet with the new members. virginia

STARTING ON THE RIGHT FOOT Aeries and Auxiliaries from throughout the state of Virginia all pitched in to help the three new clubs get started with money in the bank. Donations from Fredericksburg, Colonial Beach, Alexandria and more, provided a sense of pride and security for our newest Brothers and Sisters as they set sail.
Wytheville Eagles #4554 rounded out the trio on Jan. 29, in a special ceremony held at the town's community center. The trio of new clubs come on the heels of other recent additions, Williamsburg #4548 (Sept. 2015) and Culpeper #4551 (Jan. 2019). "As Grand Madam President, I am excited and thrilled beyond compare at instituting these brand new Aeries and Auxiliaries," Grand Madam President Brenda Garrioch said. "Considering everything everyone has been through the last two years, this is a good occasion to get everyone back together and be who we are - Eagles." Many of the attendees of the virginia
Warrenton institution wore purple in honor of Jerry Sullivan, who sported the color during his year as GWP in honor of his twin daughter, who suffer from lupus. "It was great to see everyone there in Jerry's home Aerie, wearing purple and supporting the cause," GWP Brian Rogers said. "I know he's looking down smiling at what they've been able to accomplish in his memory." Jerry's wife, Maxine Sullivan, is serving as the first Madam President of the Jerry L. Sullivan Auxiliary. "It was a very emotional day, but very gratifying," said Maxine. "I know Jerry's up there with that big twinkle in his eye watching all of this." 19

The Fraternal Order of Eagles are headed back to NASCAR's premier series for the 2022 season. On March 20 in Atlanta and July 31 at the Indianapolis Road Course, the black-and-yellow Eagles scheme will take the track on the #7 Chevrolet of Corey LaJoie for Spire Motorsports. The F.O.E. will be featured throughout the season as an associate sponsor for the Spire Motorsports team of LaJoie and #77 Landon Cassill. Additionally, the Eagles will continue their partnership with Justin Haley, driver of the #31 Kaulig Racing Chevrolet, as a personal sponsor, with the F.O.E. Racing logo on Justin's suit for the duration of the season. Both Haley and LaJoie will be in attendance at the 2022 International Convention in Columbus to sign autographs and take pictures with members. Since 2012, Solid Rock Teen Center has provided Phoenix-area youth with a safe place to learn a variety of crafts, including music, sound engineering, art, photography, dancing and more. Founded by legendary rocker Alice Cooper, Solid Rock believes "a teen's worst enemy is too much time on their hands," so the foundation aims to fill that time by providing a place to better
themselves under the guidance and instruction of industry professionals. Under the guidance of professional staff, the foundation has helped save countless young lives in the greater Phoenix-area and recently opened a second center in nearby Mesa, Ariz. Help save young lives by contributing to GWP Brian Rogers' special project during the fraternal year.

During World War II, The Fraternal Order of Eagles created the Memorial Foundation to help care for the children of members in good standing who lost their lives in service to their country. In the years since, the program has expanded to also cover the children of any member who dies while carrying out the duties of their job.

Since 1947, the Memorial Foundation has provided assistance to 875 families and 1,584 children. Preserving Our History Online Historical Archives Now Available L
ast year, we launched the online Fraternal Order of Eagles Historical Archives in the Members-Only Section of our website in an effort to shed light on the various achievements and artifacts that tell our story. Brothers and Sisters,
As Spring begins and the sun starts shining across the jurisdiction, our focus in Membership turns to retention. Retention is a key factor in keeping your Aerie or Auxiliary thriving. If you’re keeping your members, it makes it easier to hit your membership goals, to keep money in the bank and to keep a vibrant, positive feeling inside your Aerie home. I want to encourage everyone here to do whatever they can this Spring to promote retention and bring your Aerie or Auxiliary as close as you can to a 100% retention rate. The less members you drop on July 11, the easier it will be for you to hit Net Gain +2% next fraternal year. Creative incentive programs to encourage members to renew their dues early. The sooner your members renew, the less you’ll have to spend to mail out Dues Reminders. Give away cash or gift cards to a randomly selected member who renews before the May 31 deadline. Hold a special dinner for anyone renewed before the end of April. Think of fun, creative ways to reward your brothers and sisters who leap at the opportunity to remain an Eagle for another year. membership
Make sure you’re promoting the dues deadline in your newsletters, on our websites and social media and bring it up at your next meeting. And encourage your members to make sure their address and contact information is current in the Member Management System (MMS) to ensure they receive Grand Aerie correspondence in the weeks ahead. Bad addresses contribute to a significant portion of our drops each year so it is extremely important that we all work to make sure the information in our database is accurate. It is my goal to see our organization climb back toward a million members by the end of the next three years. The less we drop in July, the closer we stand to hitting that goal. Focus on retention the next two months and watch your club Soar! Like I always say, "If It Is To Be, It Is Up To Me." Keep looking up, have a great day, and I'll see you where Eagles fly.

BEING A QUALITY PROPOSER Proposers are typically the first introduction new members have to the Fraternal Order of Eagles. As a proposer, you have a responsibility to welcome your new member into the organization and help them integrate themselves into the Order. A good proposer should: -Explain in detail who we are and what we do. -Make sure the candidate knows the eligibility requirements for membership. -Be at a meeting where their candidate is interviewed and voted on. -Be at the meeting when they are initiated. -Make sure they know when regular meetings are held and their obligation to attend. -Keep them up to date about upcoming events at the Aerie/Auxiliary. -Introduce them to new Brothers & Sisters. -Follow up when it’s time to renew their dues.

Retention is Key This Spring, focus on ways to keep your rosters full DUES REMINDER NOTICES This year's Dues Reminders lists will be pulled from the Member Management System (MMS) on the following dates: • March 28 (1st Notice) • April 25 (2nd Notice) • May 26 (Final Notice) Please make sure all received payments are posted to MMS by these dates to ensure your members don't receive unnecessary reminder notices.
Each year, we see members drop from our rosters without realizing their dues had expired. While all members should be responsible for knowing our May 31 drop date, it's important that our Aeries and Auxiliaries do their best to keep everyone informed of dues reminders season. Make sure you're promoting the dues deadline on your websites and social media channels, in your newsletters and at your meetings. We also encourage everyone to reach out in advance of the first dues reminder in order to trim costs related to Dues Reminders. Hold an Early Bird drawing awarding cash or gift cards to a randomly selected member who renews before March 28. Provide incentives to get as many renewals in before the first notice to save your Aerie or Auxiliary money. Several clubs across the jurisdiction have seen their retention rates rise through being proactive about Dues Renewals! membership

Raises over $2,000 to support our troops

hanks to the kindness and generosity of our Aeries and Auxiliaries, the 2021 Operation Eagle campaign raised a total of $2,847.99 for five recipients currently serving in the United States Military. Kyle Brookover, Dylan Lawson, Alexander Drummond, Bryan Stiffler and Toren Mohs each received an iPad mini, Nintndo Switch with games and several boxes of food, clothing items, toiletries, games, magazines, books, movies and more to help entertain their companies during deployment. All packages were received prior to the holidays and all of our recipients offer their gratitude to Eagles everywhere for their generous gifts. Financials A look into the fiscal year • The Grand Aerie continues to operate within the budget approved by the delegation. The one-time per-year Per-Capita Tax will be calculated in May 2022 at $12.00 • The Grand Aerie has made positive financial strides. The outstanding $12,000,000 loan to terminate the Pension Fund has officially been paid off. • Eagle Village, the charitable retirement community located in Bradenton, Fla., has an outstanding loan balance on the new recreation center of $503,965. Donations are the primary source to pay off the loan. • Due to COVID-19, contributions to the Fraternal Order of Eagles Foundation were down 25% compared to the previous fiscal year. This was to be expected, but Eagles are People Helping People and we'll prove that with this year's contributions. financials

• The By-Laws of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Foundation were amended at the 2021 International Convention in Phoenix, Arizona. • Membership is the key to our organization, as approximately 70% of the revenue received by the Grand Aerie comes from Per-Capita Tax. We must continue to increase membership by funding the necessary investment in marketing, programs and training to make Net Gain a trend. • While we fulfilled our $25,000,000 commitment to the DRC, our goal is not yet finished. We must continue to fundraise for the Diabetes Research Center to make sure we find the cure. Campaign so we can find that cure!
