After several years in other areas of Cuba, this year's fly fishing adventure brought us to Isla de Juventud, which is considered to be Cuba's largest subsidiary island.
I was here years ago, so I already knew the island. At that time we were staying in the hotel, but I really liked it there and I knew from stories that it was also a very good destination with a particularly large number of opportunities to catch large tarpon. As we wanted to try something new this year, we therefore decided to charter a yacht here.
With our yacht JAF1 we were able to go to many different fishing spots. All in all, we all liked it very much. The service of the boat crew and the guides was excellent. The fishing is certainly different than in Jardines as you fish more in deep channels and less on sight. But there was a lot for each of us to do and we caught well. Especially in the evening hours on the reef we experienced great fishing.
