UNVERGESSLICHE ERLEBNISSE

Nachdem Christoph und ich 2024 in Mexiko eine außergewöhnlich erfolgreiche Fischerei erleben durften und das Interesse daran sehr groß war, haben wir beschlossen, dieses Erlebnis zu wiederholen – und sogar zu erweitern.

So entstanden zwei Gruppen in der Prime Time, mit dem Ziel, genau das weiterzugeben, was wir selbst erleben durften. Die erste Woche habe ich begleitet und die zweite Christroph. Wie schon im Jahr zuvor kombinierten wir die Reise mit Palapas Ventana, was bedeutete, dass wir an zwei unterschiedlichen Standorten fischten.

Palapas Ventana – Warm-up in der Sea of Cortés

Palapas Ventana liegt an der Baja California in der Sea of Cortés und ist vor allem als echtes Surferparadies bekannt. Hier hat auch Tim sein Domizil. Die Fischerei findet küstennah statt und bietet normalerweise hervorragende Chancen auf Doraden und Roosterfish – für uns der perfekte Einstieg und ein ideales Warm-up, bevor es später auf die Pazifikseite geht.

Im Vergleich zu 2024 waren diesmal zwar weniger Doraden präsent, dafür zeigten sich die Roosterfish umso kooperativer. Rooster bis zu 90 cm Länge konnten gefangen werden, und jeder hatte ausreichend Zeit, sich zu akklimatisieren, anzukommen und in den Rhythmus der Reise zu finden.

Diesmal war auch die Familie Glück mit dabei: Vater Erich, Sohn Bernhard und seine Freundin Isabelle. Es gab ein Versprechen, das endlich eingelöst werden musste. Vater Erich hatte sich dieses Versprechen bei einem Verkaufsabschluss ganz am Ende geschickt ausgehandelt – ich sollte ihn mitnehmen, damit er sich einen Lebenstraum erfüllen konnte: einmal im Leben einen richtig großen Fisch zu fangen.

In Palapas Ventana begann das Abenteuer allerdings sehr verhalten. Die großen Fische blieben aus, und mit ihnen schwand langsam auch der Glaube an den großen Moment. Ich sagte zu Erich: „Wenn wir in Magbay sind, dann fangt ihr eure großen Fische.“ Da die Glück Family keine Fliegenfischer sind haben sie mit normalen Gerät gefischt und da sollte es doch viel einfacher gehen.

Daraufhin ging er eine Wette mit mir ein, wie sie nur auf hoher See entstehen kann: Wenn er keinen Marlin fängt, muss ich eine lebende Sardine essen – fängt er jedoch einen, dann ist er an der Reihe.

Natürlich verlor Erich die Wette.

Was dann später in Magbay folgte, verschlug uns kurz die Sprache: Erich nahm die lebende Sardine, kaute sie seelenruhig, schluckte sie ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken und blickte dabei erstaunlich gefasst in die Runde – als wäre es das Normalste der Welt. Kein Zögern, kein Drama. Wirklich beeindruckend. Der Tequila danach war dann weniger Mutprobe als logische Konsequenz – zur Desinfektion, zur Verarbeitung des Erlebten und vermutlich auch zur inneren Beruhigung. Man weiß ja nie.

Magbay – Marlinfischerei vom Feinsten

Nach dieser Eingewöhnungsphase ging es weiter nach Magbay auf die Pazifikseite – für ganze sechs intensive Angeltage. Die Anreise erfolgte unkompliziert mit dem Minibus und dauerte insgesamt etwa fünf Stunden.

In Magbay angekommen, wurde es spürbar rustikaler. Das kleine Fischerdorf Alcatraz besticht durch seinen ursprünglichen Charme: einfache Unterkünfte, unglaublich freundliche Menschen, sehr gutes Essen – und eine einzigartige Marlinfischerei.

Wie schon 2024 spielte alles perfekt zusammen: Das Wetter passte, die Bedingungen waren ideal, und die Marlins waren überall. Jeder Teilnehmer erreichte sein persönliches Ziel und konnte seinen Marlin auf Sicht vom Skiff aus fangen, oft in unmittelbarer Küstennähe.

Nach meinem zweiten Besuch dort bin ich überzeugt: Magbay ist eine Destination mit außergewöhnlichem Potenzial. Ich glaube, es gibt kaum einen anderen Ort auf der Welt, an dem man so viele Marlins sieht und sie derart spektakulär auf Sicht befischen kann.

Diese zwei Wochen waren ein voller Erfolg – fischerisch wie menschlich. Ich bin sehr dankbar, dieses Erlebnis gemeinsam mit euch allen geteilt zu haben. Der Spaß, die Harmonie und der respektvolle Umgang innerhalb der Gruppe haben diese Reise zu etwas ganz Besonderem gemacht.

Dieses Fotobuch soll euch an all die Momente erinnern, die uns zum Lachen gebracht haben, die Spannung auf dem Wasser und an Eindrücke, die sicher noch lange bleiben werden. Danke für diese großartige Zeit.

TWO WEEKS, TWO WORLDS UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES

After Christoph and I experienced an outstanding and unforgettable fishing trip in Mexico in 2024, and due to the great interest that followed, we decided to make this experience possible for others as well.

As a result, we organized two groups during prime season, with the goal of sharing exactly what we ourselves had the privilege to experience. Just like the year before, we combined the trip with Palapas Ventana, meaning that we fished at two different locations.

Palapas Ventana is located on the Baja California Peninsula, right on the Sea of Cortés, and is well known as a true surfer’s paradise. This is also where Tim is based. Fishing here takes place close to the coast and usually offers excellent opportunities for dorado and roosterfish—making it the perfect warm-up before heading over to the Pacific side. Compared to 2024, there were fewer dorado this time. However, the roosterfish were far more cooperative, and we managed to land roosters of up to 90 cm in length. Everyone had the chance to settle in, adapt to the conditions, and fully arrive—both physically and mentally—before the next stage of the journey.

This time, the Glück family joined us as well: father Erich, son Bernhard, and his girlfriend Isabelle. There was a promise that finally had to be kept. Erich had cleverly negotiated this promise at the very end of a sales deal – I was to take him along so he could fulfill a lifelong dream: catching a truly big fish at least once in his life.

In Palapas Ventana, the adventure started rather quietly. The big fish were nowhere to be seen, and little by little, faith in the big moment began to fade. I told Erich, “When we get to Magbay, that’s where you’ll catch your big fish.” That’s when I proposed a bet – the kind that can only be made at sea: if he didn’t catch a marlin, I would have to eat a live sardine. If he did catch one, then he would. Of course, Erich lost the bet.

What happened next left us genuinely impressed. Erich took the live sardine, chewed it calmly, swallowed it without blinking, and looked around as if this were the most natural thing in the world. No hesitation. No drama. Truly impressive. The tequila afterward was less of a dare and more of a logical consequence – for disinfection, to process the experience, and probably for inner peace as well. Just to be safe.

Upon arrival in Magbay, the atmosphere became noticeably more rustic.

The small fishing village of Alcatraz has a unique and authentic charm: very simple accommodations, incredibly friendly people, excellent food— and truly exceptional marlin fishing.

The weather conditions were ideal, and marlins were everywhere. Every participant reached their personal goal and successfully caught a marlin sight-fishing from a skiff, often very close to the coastline.

After visiting Magbay for the second time, I can confidently say that this is a destination with tremendous long-term potential. I truly believe there are very few places in the world where you can see so many marlins and target them so spectacularly on sight from a small boat.

These two weeks were a complete success—both in terms of fishing and human connection.

I am truly grateful to have shared this experience with all of you. The fun we had, the harmony within the group, and the positive spirit made this journey something very special.

After this acclimatization phase, we moved on to Magbay on the Pacific coast, where six full days of fishing awaited us.The journey by minibus was straightforward and took approximately five hours in total.
