Welcome to our spring issue! The year is well underway now and the countdown to summer is ON. As always, it’s been a delight putting this issue together. Every quarter I just love finding out about new local businesses, and meeting the people behind the brands at our netWALKING events. That’s right, we have taken to multi-tasking and getting our steps in while networking these days. Read all about it on pages 28-29).
It’s a really exciting time for us as we introduce our second monthly market. Following the success of our market in Portchester precinct (10am-3pm, on the second Saturday every month), we have been offered an opportunity at Royal Clarence Yard in Gosport. You will find us popping up there on the second Sunday of the month (10am-3pm). It’s such an amazing waterside location; a vast space with brilliant cafés, bars and restaurants. It has a great feel about it, you’ll see what I mean. A new area means further opportunity to meet and work with inspiring creatives, so we’re thrilled and can’t wait to get firmly established.
As always I really want FLO’S MAG to inform and inspire you. I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets overwhelmed by the noise online. As I always say, put your phone in another room, make your favourite drink, get cosy in a comfy chair and MAKE TIME for this magazine. It’s designed to be consumed slowly and thoughtfully. Reading a magazine is a multi-sensory experience... the amount of people who sniff the pages! Sink in. floscircle@gmail.com

P.S. If you’re a fan of FLO’S MAG and would like to show your appreciation, why not use the QR code to buy me a (virtual) coffee, I would love that.

As a business owner, you don’t just want to look professional, you want to be understood. You want people to quickly grasp what you do, who you help and what it feels like to work with you.
Most of that happens before you even speak.
In a world where we scroll first and read later, your images are often the first introduction to your business. Within seconds, someone decides
whether your brand feels trustworthy, aligned and credible. For small businesses, especially within a local community, that first impression matters.
Strong visual marketing is not about being flashy. It is about being intentional.
When your images reflect your values and your personality, they become business assets. They help people understand you. They build familiarity. And familiarity builds trust.
It doesn’t have to be perfect
Professional photography is powerful. It gives you high quality, intentional images that work
consistently across your website, social media and print. But everyday visuals matter too.
You have a good camera in your pocket (just remember to wipe your lens). The difference is not the equipment, it is the intention behind the image.
Before you post, ask yourself:
i Does this reflect the quality of my work?
i Does this show what it feels like to work with me?
i Does this align with my values?
Clarity and consistency will always resonate more than polish alone.

If you are unsure what to photograph, think in simple categories.
• The face behind the business. A natural portrait that shows you as approachable and confident.
• You in action. Creating, teaching, preparing, serving. These moments build credibility without you having to say it.
• Details. Tools, materials, packaging, notebooks. Details communicate care and quality.
• Environment. Your studio, shop, office or kitchen table. Context helps people picture working with you.
• Values. If community matters, show collaboration. If sustainability matters, show your materials. Make your values visible.
Set aside one hour this week and capture:
i You working, not posing
i A close up of your tools or product
i Your workspace from a wide angle
i A small detail people wouldn’t usually see
i Something that represents why you started
i A candid, unguarded moment
Choose three and share them with the story behind each image. Explain what was happening. Why it matters. What it says about your business.
Images are not decoration. When used intentionally, they support your message and help you show up consistently and confidently.
You do not need to be louder.
You just need to be seen.

Urban Sketchers Portsmouth was founded by artist Chris Webb in 2015. He wanted to encourage creativity in the area, and be an accessible art group for all skill levels.
A welcoming group of like-minded people meet up in and around the city, to sketch scenes on location. All sketchers are welcome regardless of skill, and it is free to attend. They meet most weeks on a Tuesday 11am-1pm, and every third Saturday of the month 11am-1pm. All event dates and locations are listed on their Facebook page.
As an Official Chapter, Urban Sketchers Portsmouth represents the Global Urban Sketchers Community at a local level.

Born and bred Gosport resident Jon Tyrrell is an architect and contemporary artist. He has recently opened his studio/art gallery in one of the brand new units within Carpenter’s Yard at Priddy’s Hard, Gosport.
Jon’s lifelong passion for art has come to the fore. His original abstract paintings carry the quiet authority of someone who understands how things are built, even when he chooses to let them unravel. Strong compositions, layered surfaces and carefully considered colour sit alongside intuitive mark-making and expressive freedom. They are works that feel quietly deliberate yet emotionally open, inviting the viewer into spaces that are imagined rather than defined. Predominantly working with acrylic on canvas, he also uses mixed media and collage in his pieces.
“I am inspired by my work as an architect,” says Jon “But also my passion for historic motor sport and Formula One, both of which feature in my art. I’ve incorporated tributes to numerous cars, liveries and drivers, including my most recent piece, which features a 1964 Mini Cooper S, winner of the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally.”
Jon’s work is affordable – priced to sell. He has already completed several commissions and is
very happy to chat about special commissions too. Whether designing homes or creating art, Jon’s approach remains consistent: a commitment to quality, clarity and thoughtful design. His aim is simple — to create work that endures, enriches everyday life, and stands the test of time.
Jon is very welcoming and loves to chat about his work, so go and see him and check out the other artists at Carpenter’s Yard (which at the time of going to print includes a jewellery designer and ceramic artist).
Fun fact: Jon built his own eco home, near Haslar, himself from the ground up. Look out for it in the next issue of FLO’S MAG.
The exciting new development, located opposite The Powder Monkey Taphouse and The Explosion Museum, comprises nine affordable artist studios. It’s a place steeped in history, where ideas, people, and art come together.
You can also walk in the other direction from Priddy’s Hard, over the Millennium Bridge (which is just stunning) to Royal Clarence Yard. Lots of places to stop for food and drink. (Royal Clarence Yard also happens to be the spot for FLO’S MARKET on the second Sunday of the month!)

April/May is a funny time...half of us are enjoying the spring sunshine, while the other half are suddenly panicking that the summer holidays are looming! If your evenings are spent staring at a laptop with 20 open tabs, let’s take a deep breath. A holiday should be a memory to cherish, not a second job.
Need some inspiration?
Sometimes the best trips are the ones you hadn’t even considered. Here are a few ‘out of the box’ ideas I’m currently curating for my local clients:
The French road trip
Skip the airport queues. Pack the car and hop on the ferry or Eurostar to explore the rolling vineyards of Bordeaux or the lavender fields of Provence. We sometime forget how close we are to France yet, when you’re there, you feel a world away from normality!
Greece without the crowds
We all love the Mamma Mia vibe, but you don’t have to share it with thousands. I know about the hiddengem islands, like the Saronics, with quiet tavernas and cove beaches, where dinner doesn’t cost £80 per head! Why not add in a few days in

Athens to please the historians in your family?
From the rugged peaks of the Rockies on the west coast to the charming French coastal villages of the east, a Canadian road trip offers breathtaking scenery and a true sense of adventure. I’ve been lucky enough to explore both sides of Canada and it is a perfect summer option for your next adventure!
A common misconception is that this level of tailored planning comes with a hefty extra fee. In reality, you get my expertise, full ABTA and ATOL (when air travel is included) protection, and a completely bespoke itinerary for the same price (or often less!) than doing it yourself.
As your local Portchester expert, I have access to trade-only rates and exclusive packages that aren’t available online. I handle the logistics and the fine print, so you can focus on the important bits like setting up your phone countdown and what to pack!
Ready to stop scrolling and start dreaming? Let’s chat over coffee and make your 2026 summer one to remember.

Our fantastic cover art is by Aylsa Williams. She created it after walking in Warsash and looking across towards Hamble.
“I walk often with my dog Chewbacca and husband Mike, and the views insire my work,” says Aylsa. “We walk a lot on the river Hamble and we call it ‘the Hamble ramble’.”
Aylsa will do an acrylic painting and then a reduction lino print. “I love the simplified effect that lino

printing gives to a landscape,” explains Aylsa.
Aylsa runs lino printing workshops at venues including Sir Harold Hillier Gardens & Arboretum, and Queen Elizabeth Country Park (please check her website for venues, dates etc).
Aylsa’s work will be exhibited at the following upcoming events:
Titchfield Art & Craft Show (10-12 April), Romsey Art Group’s Spring Exhibition (2-16 May) and Five Arrows Gallery at Exbury Gardens (7 June - 12 July).

Hi Emma! Can you tell us about your love of stained glass?
I’m very fond of all things glassy and am obsessed with making anything that pops into my head. Glass is magical and completely transforms a space. Since I started making stained glass, I’ve noticed it’s everywhere! I see it on high streets, in beautiful historical buildings, and one of my favourite things to do is point it out to anyone and everyone.
What do you like to make?
I tend to go with the flow when choosing what to make. I’ve been advised to ‘find my brand’, but I can’t... I’m no good at staying in one lane! I create whatever I fancy at the time.
How did it all begin?
I attended a workshop with an incredible instructor/artist and remember looking around her studio and falling completely in love. As I left that first session, I booked

another, went home, ordered all the basics, and I haven’t stopped making since.
I went back to the studio to learn traditional leaded window making, which opened even more creative possibilities. I was also lucky enough to spend a summer at a family friend’s shop in London, making leaded lights, that really deepened my skills.
What can people expect at a workshop?
I run beginners’ sessions where attendees complete the final stages of Tiffany copper foiling. The designs are set, and I cut and prepare the glass before the workshop.
Where can people join a workshop?
I currently run workshops in Gosport and Lee-on-the-Solent. The dream is to have a permanent studio space.

Check the website glassworkshopfun.shop for upcoming workshop dates ...and find Sea Through Glass on social media.

On Castle Road in Southsea, the Clock Tower is one of those buildings people instinctively pause to admire. Its façade is familiar to anyone walking through Southsea, yet few realise that upstairs is one of the area’s best-kept beauty secrets.
For more than four years, the upper-floor studio has been run by nail specialist Minna Kay. What began as a solo business has grown steadily, and today the studio is also home to lash and brow specialist Gabija, whose work enhances natural features with precision, and Kobido therapist Alina. Kobido is the traditional Japanese facial massage known for its relaxing, sculpting and lifting effect.
Together, the three experts have created something distinctive — not a high-street chain, but a considered, independent space where attention to detail and genuine personal service comes first. Built largely through recommendation and familiar faces, it has quietly become something of a well-kept secret in Southsea.

Q&A WITH KRISSY FROM FAREHAM-BASED HEELING PALMS REFLEXOLOGY

Hi Krissy! For those who don’t know what Duopody reflexology is, how do you explain it?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy based on the principle that specific points on the feet correspond to different areas of the body. By applying gentle, targeted pressure to these reflex points, we help encourage deep relaxation and support the body’s natural balance and overall sense of wellbeing.
What are the benefits of reflexology?
Reflexology is widely valued for its ability to promote deep relaxation and reduce stress. Research suggests it can help lower anxiety levels and support improved sleep and mood. By calming the nervous system, reflexology creates the conditions for the body to restore balance, making
it a powerful complementary wellbeing therapy.
Can you explain what Duopody is?
Duopody is a specialised reflexology technique where both feet are worked simultaneously in a flowing, coordinated way. By stimulating corresponding reflex points at the same time, it can create a deeply immersive and balanced experience. Clients often describe it as profoundly calming and an enhanced form of traditional reflexology.
How did you get into this profession?
I trained as a reflexologist back in the early 90s but life took me in a different direction. When my father was diagnosed with cancer five years ago I found
myself turning back to reflexology to help him cope with the symptoms from his treatment. I retrained as a Clinical Reflexologist in Integrated Medicine.
I now work with clients experiencing chronic stress, anxiety and hormonal transitions such as menopause and fertility issues. I offer supportive, tailored, individual treatments based on clients’ needs. I also provide calming, complementary care within palliative settings, including for those living with dementia, always working alongside conventional medical support.
Do you offer any other treatments?
Yes, I also offer Indian head massage, Ayurvedic natural facelift massage, and Reiki.
Find Heeling Palms Reflexology on Facebook and Instagram, and use the QR code above to book a treatment. Or call to book: 07962 340121

Lis from Rebelliously You encourages us to grab a pen, and a brew, and take a few minutes to go inward.

Imagine you are holding three glittering seeds of change in the palm of your hand. These seeds represent anything your heart desires: a new skill, a home project, a wild adventure, or simply dedicated time to create. What would you love to grow this year?
Name your three seeds. Give them names that feel alive and exciting:

As the days grow longer, it is the ideal time to sow these seeds. For each seed to take root, what does it need from you right now? Maybe it’s a dedicated block of time, a specific tool/resource or a shift in mindset?
How will you sustain this growth so your seeds can truly flourish? Think of the ‘water and sunlight’ your intentions need to stay strong during the busy weeks ahead.
Set one non-negotiable action for each seed to get it into the ground this week:

When was the last time you truly paused?
So many women are moving through life feeling exhausted, stretched and quietly overwhelmed — yet still believing they should somehow be coping better.
But the truth is simple.
Women aren’t broken.
They’re tired.
The Refill Collective was created in Hampshire as a welcoming space where women can step away from the constant mental load of everyday life and take time to refill their own cups.
Founded by Stephanie Winters, The Refill Collective offers relaxed, thoughtful events designed to help women pause, reconnect with themselves and remember that they don’t have to carry everything alone.
The signature event, Refill & Rest, brings women together for a gentle afternoon of conversation, reflection and practical tools for wellbeing. Guests

receive a guided workbook, a curated goodie bag, and the group hear from professional local speakers who share insights on self-care, mindset and personal growth.
The real magic happens on the day, in the room — when women realise they are not the only ones feeling the way they do.
“It’s not about fixing women,” says Stephanie. “It’s about reminding them they were never broken in the first place.”
The Refill Collective is growing into a supportive community where women can return for future events, connection and encouragement.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is simply give yourself permission to pause.
Upcoming events and tickets can be found by scanning the QR code above.

“I have loved creating a home that feels happy and full of personality.”

Artist Chris Bayliss lives in an extended 1960s semi in Gosport with his wife Sarah, two daughters and dog Nancy. They have a light-filled annexe at the end of the garden that doubles as an office and art studio.
“I started painting regularly in 2019 as a form of relaxation,” says Chris. “I create compositions that capture the beauty of the world and its wild inhabitants, whether that be far flung locations from my travels, or everyday life.”
While Chris paints on canvas, for Sarah, the home is her canvas. Bold and colourful wallpaper, paint and artwork are combined with plants galore to create a comfortable sanctuary that’s full of personality.

“Our art is an eclectic mix; music memorabilia, Chris’s work, other local artists, and we mix in high street stuff too. ”

“I added wallpaper, paint and new handles to an old set of drawers, to create a unique custom piece.”

“We have a big dining table because we love to entertain.”

“I get inspiration from Instagram, design magazines and even hotels or cafés when we’re out and about.”

“My style is bright, bold and playful. ”
Interior Feature
“The
gas fire in the lounge is 1980s style. ”

“I’m not afraid of colour and I like each room to feel a little bit different.”

“Pink is my favourite colour at the moment. It goes with everything and is both calming and fun.”

“I love wallpaper brands like Lust Home. I’ll often start a room with a wallpaper and build the rest of the design around it.”

We caught up with Emma Scribbans, founder of Mind Unwind, to find out how her life and career changed following brain surgery.

Your life changed overnight. What did the before and after look like?
Before my brain tumour diagnosis, I had spent 25 years in education—teaching in primary schools, then as an education adviser. I loved the pace, the challenge, the impact. After brain surgery, that career was no longer possible – I had to find a much calmer work/life balance.
You were known for living at full speed, how did you cope when you couldn’t live at that pace anymore?
At first, I didn’t. I treated recovery like training for a 10km race— always pushing, but all I was doing was stopping my recovery. Slowly, I learned that acceptance isn’t giving up, it’s meeting yourself exactly where you are. Now I live a life of careful balance, choosing where to spend energy and where to conserve it.
How did art fit into your recovery?
I lost ‘me’ after brain surgerymy career, hobbies, social life. I needed an activity with no pressure; something that felt safe when everything was out of control; something to protect my mental health at such a difficult time. I started trying abstract art techniques and realised it was reducing my symptoms. It was all
about process, not outcome and just being present.
What benefits have you seen— for yourself and others?
Slowing down through mindful art became my superpower – it has so many ripple effects. My mental health improved, anxiety reduced. My self-esteem and resilience grew again. I’m living proof that creativity is good for our health and wellbeing. In my workshops, I see people arrive carrying stress and leave calmer, lighter. Clients with chronic pain realise it’s eased. People email about their best sleep in months.
I wanted to combine what I’ve learned about the benefits of creativity with my skills as a teacher. I now deliver mindful art sessions at workshops, retreats, private events and corporate wellbeing conferences. People leave Mind Unwind sessions with tools they can use every day when life gets overwhelming, even if they think they’re not creative.
If you’d like to explore creativity for yourself, your team or a special occasion, I’d love to hear from you. My sessions are gentle, no expectation, carefully guided and accessible to all. Let me show you how to calm your mind with watercolours, doodles and mandalas.

Every business and every person has a reason they do what they do. A quiet force that goes beyond the day-to-day, shaping your choices, inspiring others, and defining how you show up in the world.
Maybe it’s about creating connection, helping others feel seen, building something meaningful for your family, or sharing a story that deserves to be heard.
I love what I do because I get to support founders who build brands with purpose. Brands that come from real-life experience. Brands created by people who want to make a difference, not just a sale.
Maybe it’s the joy from a handcrafted chocolate, a piece of art that sparks a smile, or a service that creates a tiny glimmer moment that can transform someone’s day.
While my work is rooted in branding and design, at its heart, it’s about uncovering the story behind the business so I can help them create a brand that truly connects with their people.
Once you uncover your ‘why’, it becomes the magic behind your mission. Your purpose. Your superpower.
Everything shifts. Your message becomes clearer. Your confidence
grows. And the way you show up visually and verbally starts to feel natural, aligned, and authentic.
That’s where thoughtful brand design comes in. Not to hide who you are, but to help you show up in a way that makes sense, feels right, and actually reaches the people you want to connect with.
So here’s my question: What’s your why?
What’s your superpower that makes you unique?

Our networking events started by accident when we launched the first issue of FLO’S MAG back in October 2024. I wanted a celebration; an in-person get together. When I used to publish my wedding magazine I had a party every time we published a new issue... any excuse for a new outfit, professional hair and makeup and vast quantities of fizz. But times have changed, I’m older now, and sober, and I rarely leave the house after dark... so a mid-morning coffee and cake get together was just the ticket!
After that launch networking event, I felt there was real value in getting likeminded small business owners together regularly, so I hosted the events monthly. Then I felt they were perhaps too regular, so I made them quarterly. At that point the group was exceeding 30 people and we were bursting out of the venue (Tides at Fareham Marina). We moved to Damson Hill Cottage for what was meant to be a one-off event last summer, but we loved it so much, we stayed!
As parking is limited at Damson, we always encourage car sharing, or parking further afield and walking down. At our autumn networking
three separate attendees said they were parking in Swanmore and walking down (approx. 30 minutes), so I linked them up and they walked together. I joked they were ‘netWALKING’ and the idea grew from there. We decided to try netWALKING for our winter event, in order to keep warm more than anything... and we loved it! What’s not to love really; it was relaxed, we got our steps in, saw some llamas, saw beautiful countryside, ate sweet treats from greaseproof paper and had coffee from Betty the vintage caravan café.
Things have evolved in such a beautiful way. I have seen so many friendships and collaborations formed as a result of these events. For me, it’s a chance to say THANK YOU to the advertisers who make FLO’S MAG possible, to catch up with familiar faces and to meet new people who may want to get involved.
Make sure you’re signed up to the mailing list to stay in the loop with upcoming dates. The next one will be in July.

In the UK, around 300,000 to 350,000 tonnes of used clothing are dumped or incinerated every year (wastemanaged.co.uk).
We all need to slow down in so many ways, and ‘slow fashion’ is a great example of this. It harks back to the ‘Make Do and Mend’ campaign during the 1940s when clothing was rationed during the war. We can be so quick to get rid of things, when we could repair, alter or repurpose them. Remember all the clothes Maria Von Trapp made for the children in The Sound of Music? Out of old curtains!
Clothing is about dressing for your emotions, as well as your physical appearance. It’s about how happy and confident you feel when you wear something... It’s about aligning with your inner self.
Southsea-based Ana Espina is a Couture Designer. She designs and makes dresses/hats/fascinators (for special
events like weddings and the races), conducts wardrobe audits, and alters garments to give them a new lease of life.
As a child Ana watched her grandmother crochet, and her mother knit, at home in the Basque region of Northern Spain. Ana would create clothes for her mother, and alter clothes for friends.
In Spain, Ana studied fashion and ran her own styling business for ten years, before realising her next ambition; bringing her unique style and Spanish flair to England. She undertook a millinery apprenticeship with Katherine Elizabeth in London, and went on to manage the Just Sew specialist shop in Southsea, which provided alterations not only for individuals, but also for high-end retailers including Hugo Boss, Paul Smith and Ted Baker.
Would you like to learn to alter and repair your own clothes ?
Ana provides group classes at Seeded in Southsea, and one-to-one lessons.
“Ana ensured all seven girls were comfortable in their bridesmaid dresses, by fitting to them as they pleased. I also had the dress I wore to my party the night before my wedding altered by Ana – something I wouldn’t trust anyone else to do with such a sentimental dress. Ana has worked on so many items of mine; including dresses, suits and headpieces. Her work is second to none. She works with precision, care and professionalism every single time.”
A happy customer
Have a look in your wardrobe. Identify something you love but don’t wear. Why don’t you wear it? Because it no longer fits? It’s out of fashion? Your style has changed? Have a no-strings chat with Ana and she’ll suggest alternative options so you can wear the clothes you love again.

Hello! I work as a consulting medical herbalist in my clinic and apothecary, Wildside Health, in Titchfield. Herbal medicine is a gentle yet powerful healing practice with a long-standing history of reliability. With extensive herbal knowledge, rigorous clinical training and a compassionate approach, I can assist you on your journey to wellness. Whether you seek to address specific health concerns, or to enhance your overall well-being, herbal medicine offers natural solutions that are both effective and tailored to your specific needs. Herbalists take a holistic approach to healthcare, considering both the physical and emotional factors contributing to a lack of balance within the body. We also work across the age-range; from birth, childhood, adolescence, adults, and with the elderly.

At this time of year, I encourage a gentle spring clear out by supporting the body’s organs and systems of elimination - the liver, kidneys, lymphatic system and skin - that can become sluggish and congested. During winter, as like our homes, some dust or clutter may have built up, and this time of year is perfect to spruce up the areas between the cells. Medicinal herbs act as an additional cleaning crew to make this process quicker and more effective.
We can offer off-the-shelf products, for example, herbal teas such as our ‘cleansing tea’ are perfect to aid the spring clear out. We can also recommend syrups and tincture-based products, alongside topical products such as creams, ointments and oils.
I run a clinic from Tuesday to Friday (and some Saturdays), for bespoke prescriptions to treat specific conditions. I also hold regular talks and workshops from the clinic and produce an informative monthly newsletter.
Please visit wildsidehealth.co.uk for the events schedule and to sign up for the newsletter, or pop by the clinic for a chat.
I look forward to seeing some of you soon!

You can find weekly sales of produce at The Trug (within the school grounds) on Friday mornings between 9am and 11.30am.

Reviving a piece of Hambledon history, childhood best friends Camilla and Annabel opened ‘The Stores’; a welcoming space selling sustainable homeware, gifts, clothing and flowers. Their tiny café sells delicious coffee and homemade cake. They also offer regular workshops, book clubs and very cute-looking supper clubs. We are quite frankly swooning over their aesthetic and general small batch community vibe.

Do you love writing? Is there a book inside you just waiting to be written? Stories from your life, community, or the world around that need to be told, but you’re not quite sure where to begin?
Maybe you’ve stopped yourself before you’ve even started, with that inner critic whispering ‘who would be interested in your story?’ and ‘what makes you so special?’
In a world where we feel powerless in the face of billionaires and megalomaniac tyrants it’s easy to think our stories are insignificant and don’t count for much.

But nothing could be further from the truth. It’s through our tales that the social history of tomorrow will be written and our voices will be heard. ‘History from below’ as it's sometimes known, is exactly that – stories from everyday folk, living ordinary lives - the culture of the 99%, not the worldview of the 1%. And while all social history is valuable, women’s words are especially precious, given that her story is as worthy as his tory.
Publishing your writing in the age of the internet has never been easier, there are self-publishing routes, platform routes (which you can even monetise), small independent publishers and literary magazines, all waiting for your work. And you don’t need to go it alone – a writing coach can help you untangle your ideas, keeping you on track to produce something you’re proud of.
If this sounds like you, ‘Writing from Life’ could be your first step! A one-day workshop on Saturday 9th May in the beautiful surroundings of Damson Hill Cottage. Led by Prof. Sam Parsley of Curious View Coaching, the day will be a mix of tuition, writing and lush creativity, priced at £95.
To find out more, or to book a call with Sam to discuss coaching for your writing visit curiousview.co.uk
This DIY feature has been contributed by The Crafty Pantry at Sage & Salt Studio in Petersfield. The Crafty Pantry offers a self-guided, cosy creative space for adults and kids to craft freely – with materials, refreshments, and inspiration all included.
For £10 per table, you get two hours of studio time for up to five people, along with unlimited tea, coffee, squash and biscuits. Choose a craft activity from the curated recipe book; options range from painting and macramé to polymer clay, alcohol inks and more.
Open Monday - Saturday 9am - 5pm

MATERIALS:
Clean, smooth scallop shells
Pretty napkins
Mod Podge glue
A sponge paintbrush
Scissors
A small blob of gold paint
A tiny paintbrush
A hairdryer (optional)

INSTRUCTIONS:
Choose a napkin design that you love. Peel away the plain white backing - only the top printed layer is needed.
Cut a piece slightly larger than the shell’s inside curve. You want it to gently cover the inner bowl.
Use your sponge brush to apply a thin layer of Mod Podge inside the shell.
Carefully press your paper down into the shell, smoothing from the centre outward. Use your fingers or a dry brush to gently press out any wrinkles.
Let it dry for a few minutes, then brush another thin layer of glue over the top to seal it.
Use a hair dryer to dry your shells in between stages if you wish.
Once fully dry, you can paint the edge of the shell with gold paint for a finishing touch.
