K

eith Overton has found success over the past 25 years creating and operating unique destination resorts and restaurants. Prior to the sale of TradeWinds Island Resorts in late 2019, where Overton served as President of the company for 25 years, he also owned and operated other resorts and restaurants in Daytona Beach, Florida and other parts of the West Coast of Florida. Prior to TradeWinds, Overton was with an Orlando-based hotel company, Karena Hotels, where he was the youngest GM in the company’s history at just 26 years old. He worked for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company and Walt Disney World prior to honing his entrepreneurial skills. Over this 36 year period of time Overton has observed lots of concepts come and go and has a good understanding of why. “I think I know what doesn’t work a lot better than perhaps what does, so I knowing what not to do is often more important than actually than being good,” says Overton. Overton has concluded that the two principles to a successful destination resort or restaurant concept are; 1) a unique beachfront or waterfront dining venue, and absent owning this kind of expensive real estate, 2) a lifestyle brand that authentically resonates with the immediate surroundings that the concept is located within. “These two things almost always work well,” says Overton. The most recent destination concept that Overton created was RumFish Grill. The main store featured a 33K gallon fish tank that showcased over 150 fish from 40 different species found right here in the Tampa Bay waters. With local fish art displayed everywhere throughout and a retail store that featured the largest selection of fishing apparel in the market, including an expansive line of Guy Harvey fishing clothing and merchandise, the RumFish Grill concept became wildly popular and grew to 5 locations in the Tampa Bay market. Two of the stores were featured on the hit Animal Planet TV show, Tanked.

12

“I have found that creating and building these concepts around lifestyles that I personally love and participate in brings a unique understanding of what the targeted customer wants and what is missing in other offerings”, said Overton.

“I have loved motorcycles sInce I was barely bIg enough to rIde one,” Overton stated. Tampa Bay has more motorcycle enthusiasts than almost anywhere else in the country. Great weather and the Florida lifestyle lend well to those who want wind in their face and outdoor excitement. So it makes perfect sense that Overton and his friend Paul Teutul Senior, perhaps the most notable custom motorcycle builder in the country and the creator of Orange County Choppers (OCC), decided to build a new destination restaurant brand together called OCC Road House. Paul has the second most recognized motorcycle brand behind Harley-Davidson®. Paul and OCC have become well-known around the world due to a tremendously successful Discovery TV show, American Chopper, which is centered around Paul and his family’s life and the bikes he loves to build. His TV show is not only loved by those who own and ride motorcycles, but by those who dream about the biker lifestyle and that have fallen in love with Teutul’s authentic American-Made story. He has created a fan base of mothers, kids, families, veterans, and business people who have grown to love the drama of his crazy adventures and his dysfunctional family involvement in bike building along the way. Paul ranks in the top 5 people to be featured in the most shared memes across all social media outlets and at 72 years old is still picked from a large crowd instantly thanks to his muscular physique and unique stache. Overton and Teutul believe the creation of this one-of-kind destination restaurant concept centered around legacy of Orange County Choppers and really all motorcycle enthusiasts, will be wildly successful in the St Petersburg / Tampa Bay market. So far these guys

couldn’t be more right! With the largest Bike Night around occurring every Thursday, hundreds of people showing up for Line Dancing, Ladies/County Night every Wednesday, hundreds of jacked-up trucks pulling in on Truck Night every Tuesday and of course the amazing live entertainment scheduled nightly and all day long every weekend, the volume of business has been double what was expected. This massive 11,500 SF indoor Destination Restaurant & Museum with 25,000 of covered and cooled outdoor space, this is largest entertainment venue by far in the Tampa Bay Market. The history of OCC and Paul’s life comes alive and is on display for customers to take advantage of photo opportunities with dozens of the one-ofa-kind custom choppers and bikes that were actually built on the TV Show, American Chopper. OCC Road House & Museum showcases hundreds of memorabilia pieces, many never seen before, that Paul has either created or collected through merchandising relationships over the past three decades. You can pick up some of the coolest merchandise and clothing on the market in our OCC Road House Retail Store. The food and service reviews have been overwhelmingly great and the restaurant is already ranked #3 out of 471 restaurants on Trip Advisor in Clearwater, in just 3 months of being open. If all that’s not enough to motivate you to visit OCC Road House & Museum, you can also engage Paul and the guys to build you your very own Custom Built OCC Motorcycle right on campus.

“we’re goIng to let It rIp.” ~ Bert King, Dealer/Operator, Black Widow Harley-Davidson.

K

ing says he’s dreamed of owning a Harley-Davidson dealership for years and had promised himself he’d own one by age 50. “This is a 30-year written life goal,” says the 56-year-old. And here’s the surprising thing: “It’s not because I’m an avid rider,” he says. King says he promised his wife, Grace, that he’d never ride again after she experienced a serious auto accident. Despite the fact that he doesn’t ride, King remains a fan of the brand. He sold his interest in a Nissan dealership in Texas in early 2014 and hit the road, visiting 80 Harley-Davidson dealerships. “I’d go shop them,” he says. Now 2021, King owns Bert’s Black Widow Harley Davidson in Port Charlotte, Fl & Bert’s Barracuda Harley-Davidson in Clearwater, FL. Bert purchased Black Widow location in July 2015 and Barracuda location in August 2016. Who’s knows where you will see another Bert’s pop up. King stated, “It’s all about providing a Kick Ass Customer Experience Every time to Everyone.... We’re going to let it rip!”

The new OCC Road House & Museum is located on-site at the Bert’s Barracuda Harley-Davidson Dealership centrally located off of 49th St. North. This location is near I-275, US 19 and 66th St. North and is just south of Ulmerton Road, many of the most traveled roads in Pinellas County, Florida. ST. PETE • CLEARWATER, FLORIDA

WHO IS TONY CIANCI? If you ride a motorcycle in Tampa Bay Florida there is a good chance you know Tony Cianci. He is the publisher/owner of Full Throttle Magazine and is at 99% of every bike night, charity ride or event that happens in the area.

18

Tony purchased Full Throttle from his father Paul Cianci eight years ago and has taken the publication to places Paul thought was impossible. “When I started Full Throttle there were very few bike gatherings, let alone the giant bike nights we now have. Charity Rides and Poker Runs were few and far between and bike shows were non- existent. Tony took those things and shifted into high-gear. He puts on multiple events year-round, the FT tent is seen everywhere and he has great respect in the industry”, said Paul.

Tony hosts numerous bike shows during Bike Week and Biketoberfest and travels to Ohio, New York, Sturgis and even Las Vegas judging bike shows. His custom Harley-Davidson motorcycle is amazing and he isn’t afraid to ride as he has made multiple trips to Sturgis. The Full Throttle Motorcycle Expo & Bike Builder Invitational draws people from all over the country. The event showcases the top bike builders in the USA along with national touring bands (see photo on right with Tony, Daughtry & Fran Haasch). Tony has two daughters (Krysie & Ashlynn) and is engaged to Amanda (who will add 3 more to that number!!) … his older brother Paul is a retired Navy Chief and he learned the publishing business from his father Paul and step-mother Tracy. Full Throttle would not be where they are today with the support of Attorney Fran Haasch. They have grown together and helped make the Tampa Bay area the greatest place in America to ride a motorcycle! Find out more about Tony & Full Throttle Magazine by visiting www.floridafullthrottle.com or follow on FaceBook @FLFTMag and the next time you are out and about and see Tony, stop him, say hello and tell him you read about him in Ride or Die Magazine!

Hello, I’m Yusileidi Ortiz better known as la flaka de Tampa, I’m currently 19 years old and the proud owner of a black and purple 2011 Suzuki GSXR750, currently I’m a member of a women’s group called Las Insoportables, even though my roots are with Los Rompe Corillos, I’m very thankful for the growth that they have given me. My passion started and became a fire as in the group there weren’t many women riding and that sparked a flame, I got my own bike a 2006 Suzuki GSXR-750 without even knowing how to ride, I went to an empty parking lot, got the hang of it and riding it home fell about a block away, the next weekend when with the group to Orlando. Ever since then I’ve pushed myself to learn more and more, and now I’m getting good at racing my bike but I still remember when no one would want to except my close friends including Carlos R. Candelario which may he rest in peace, he was the best racer out there and was one of the little people that were willing to show me and made me a better rider. He inspired me and many others, and now I want to pay it forward and inspire many other riders and push them to break the expectation. I feel empowered as a female rider and I want my other female riders to remember to always be a Strong Woman! 26
